It's been on the list for a few years; AND they are closing for good after 40 years. Texted a foodie buddy and had a plan in 24 hours. I'd already secured a reservation for Sunday brunch. Hotel rooms booked! Prime rib here we come! This all happened on the day the news broke of the closure. Good thing I called to get in because the day we dined all reservations to the final day were gone. Goofed off a bit till 11:00am and in the door we went. Typical country club esque digs. Seated in nice high back chairs. Menu even at brunch is straight forward. Some egg centric type dishes as well as French Toast. BUT, the meat is right there in the bottom center of the menu. I was to share the 16oz cut with my GF. Buddy chose the same cut and gave some to his wife while she ordered the Kitchen Sink sandwich. Oh crap, forgot to talk appetizers. Chicken Fried Bacon and Carpaccio. Loved the sauce that accompanied the bacon. It actually made it's way onto the beef dish because it lacked a decent amount of sauce. Salads served were fine except the hard croutons. Meat was everything we expected. Served perfectly to your desired temperature with mashed taters and Yorkshire Pudding. Not exactly why we needed this; OK it was said that it helped sop up the jus. I'm not particularly a fan of just putting the broth on the plate. We pressed on through desserts. Didn't eat another bite till the next afternoon. Service was excellent even knowing she would be out of a job in a month. I'm glad we went but sad at the same time for obvious reasons. Guess next Lawry's adventure will be Vegas or LA.

Loved coming here over the years and sad that this location is closing. We ordered their thanksgiving this year and it was delicious
Be the first to ReplyI've wanted to visit here for a long time.
Unfortunately, the location is closing at the end of the month. I had called to try to set reservations but without the luck of getting an answer. Even the website stated that reservations were all booked up. I figured that's why no one answered. Decided to come on my birthday, and the window had signs that said something along the lines of "due to staff shortage only accommodating reservations." I had just driven all this way, and it was my birthday, so I decided to walk in and speak with the hostess. She let me know that perhaps we could wait for someone to get up from a table in the bar section. I didn't want to wait as we were on a time crunch. It was my wife, my daughter, and myself. We opted to sit at the bar where there were 4 available seats. The bartender let us know that due to it being lunch time there was no table side service. We got up and headed to station where they prepare your plate. The line was very short. I chose the Jim Brady cut (without guilt since I had ran 4.5 miles that morning). My daughter got the smaller lunch cut. And my wife wanted the sandwich. We're were all very pleased with the food. Great portions and amazing flavor. I didn't have to, but with less than have my steak left I decided to toss a little Lawry's seasoning on it because after all we are at Lawry's. Sad that I will only get to experience this once before they are gone from Dallas but I guess it's like that quote: "Tis better to have loved and lost than never loved at all". Great atmosphere, great friendly staff. P.S. Las Vegas and Beverly Hills locations will remain open. So I guess maybe one day I'll get to experience it again.

We had a 1:45pm reservation confirmed by Lawry's to celebrate my 11th wedding anniversary with my husband and my Mom. My Mom is 86 and has a hard time walking but she was excited to celebrate the anniversary. My family has been going to the Lawry's in LA since the 50s. I called at 1:30pm to make sure there would be no issues as the website says they close at 2:00pm. The woman on the phone said no problem at all, this is when we stop reservations but who ever is seated is fine. We sat at our table waiting for the waitress for about 15 minutes. Waitress came over and said you better get in line, they are closing down the lunch buffet shortly. We stood in line for another 15 minutes waiting to order food. The moment we made it to the prime rib carver, he said sorry we are out of food. The party in front of us was just as upset as he carved extremely thin slices just to be able to feed their family. RIDICULOUS! I have never in my life imagined such poor service from Lawry's and how do you run out of food! You're a prime rib restaurant. Nothing was offered except we ran out of food. It's no wonder they are forced to close next month.
Be the first to ReplyThe service was spectacular.
The dinner not so much. The prime rib was bland and far too undercooked especially when our request was medium. The steak was good, but it arrived very late when the other guests had finished eating. The sides also came late after we were almost finished. The dessert was good and appreciated. But the cost of the meal was not worth it.

Knowing that they're closing in planning another visit before it becomes so. I don't want them to leave. I love their prime rib and old tiny classy restaurant feel. We can't let them go.
Be the first to ReplyLawry's has been an institution in Dallas for forty years.
I have had so many great memories here full of potatoe chips, prime rib, and spun salad. The end of an era.

I just read that this location is closing and my heart is broken. We've been here for holidays and special occasions over the years, and have never been disappointed. Service is always top notch, old school steakhouse cool with such a unique presentation. And the food is just as tasty as it is fun. Best prime rib I've ever eaten anywhere, and the spinning salad is such a crowd pleaser. There is nothing else like Lawry's here. I really hope they open somewhere else in DFW, because this will definitely leave a hole in our dining repertoire.

Be the first to ReplyPerfecto so yummy and the blue cheese salad was so delish.
They cut the prime rib right in front of you
Be the first to ReplyI came here for a family member birthday dinner.
Once I saw a creature crawling on the table, I should have known what kind of service I would get. Usually I will order me a bourbon neat before a meal. I hate when the outer part of the glass feels like I've shared the drink with 5 kindergartens. Anyway the food was tasty but it was cold and I no longer complain about the slowness of the service after the Pandemic, every restaurant is slow. Of course the waitress messed up the bill at least 5 times. Matter of fact, she never got it right. She was nice. I will pass on this steak house.
Be the first to ReplyDeeply regretting becoming a Lawry's VIP.
This is my second and final visit to this place. The fact that I had to bus my own table and wait 15 minutes to get drinks is not acceptable. Still wondering if I'll ever get silverware to eat with. Ended up getting my own silverware and now wondering if I need to cook my own steak. Salad took 35 minutes to get and steak took almost an hour, and there's maybe 20 people in the entire restaurant. 40 minutes after staring at a dirty table next to us they finally cleaned that one. The bar is a very popular place to eat and yet they have one person to service the bar and the entire restaurants drinks. Stop seating people if you can't handle it. Service is painful and the experience is not enjoyable. Salad was warm which was disgusting and steak was cooked incorrectly so had to wait again for that. It is not worth the terrible service and food but judging by how empty this place is I'm guessing the word is out. If your over 70 you'll enjoy the company here but for the rest of the Dallas metro area, you are going to have more fun at any other steakhouse... is there a Sizzler nearby because I'm sure I would have had a better experience there...

LIARS AND THIEVES35 years of loyalty down the drain Last time I was at this establishment, my two servers "one in training" decided to turn his roughly $60.00 tip into a $160.00 tip. The female restaurant manager for a lack of a better word is obtuse at best and completely inept. She has not a clue on how to run a restaurant. After this fraudulent felony was committed, The Vice President himself begged me not to press charges, and said he would take care of this. He in fact did nothing to make this right, as he stated over and over again he would. Now today we go back to eat. The "server" came an asked us what we want to drink. We replied with "we know what we want to order can we place that order with u"? He said " I am not your server, but whatever, I guess I'll take your order". So it starts! No bread was served to us. No chips like everyone else got was served to us. Salad was served to us after the main course, and only after inquiring about where it was. The cream corn has changed, and is just awful but the best part was the one bite of prime rib I took was ice cold!!!!!!!When the same manger came over she said "awwwwww I'm sorry, I'll take it off your bill", and happily charged my friend for his meal that was also cold, and one that he got to eat alone. This is unforgivable. I am just so saddened, heart broken and stunned by how this place has gone straight down the sewer!

We have never been disappointed with great service, great food and great atmosphere. Having the executive chief actually carve the prime rib right at your table is wonderful.

I haven't been here in decades - since mid-1970 when it's reputation as the best place for prime rib was justified for me. Today, I returned and was very disappointed. My prime rib and my wife's filet were very tough and unflavorful. We didn't even want to finish them. The Brussel Sprouts were over cooked and the lobster tail was over cooked. And my salad was forgotten - I had to ask for it. And to make matters worse, the $200 price (with tip) was simply not worth it. On the positive side, the Au Gratin potatoes were excellent and the staff was super friendly. Perhaps, my experience was an edge case. I hope so.
Be the first to ReplyHonestly very disappointed.
Had always heard of the great tradition of Lawry's and the Rose Bowl in CA.Was very excited to try it out in Dallas. For starters, sticky pork belly was decent but way too saucy. Then, everything went down hill. The server kept asking what the special occasion was.....apparently not having one was an offense. Now lets talk about the spinning salad... that might be the worst salad I have ever tried in my entire life, the salad dressing taste like french dressing on bland lettuce with canned beats. When the waitress came back out and saw that neither of us had eaten our salads, she responded with, "WHAT THE FREAK! you didnt like my salad??" Next on to the bizarre serving tray that the prime rib and sides are just stored in at all hours, the overpriced prime rib was flavorless and cold... Very disappointing. Service was subpar for the ticket price. The bread was half decent though I will give them that. 10 out of 10 dont recommend

I've been eating at Lawry's since the late 50's and this was the most disappointing meal I've ever had there and will not return. If this is a sign of the times, save your money and go to Mastros, Flemmings, even Ruths Chris would be better. The salad dressing was completely watered down and barely had a taste, bacon wrapped dates appetizer was inedible as the bacon was close to raw and returned followed by a Lawry cut prime rib, served to both my husband and myself that was about 1/4" thick, no exaggeration. We both thought it was mistaken for English cut but told it was not. The Yorkshire pudding was served in a basket and was cold. This is not the Lawrys I've eaten at 100 times over. We spent $480 for the most disappointing meal and for Christmas Eve. This was shameful. The server and ambiance were excellent; the only decent part of the dining experience.
Be the first to ReplyVery frustrating experience yesterday.
We had a 5pm reservation and I received a voicemail at 2:51pm that the restaurant wouldn't be open for our Christmas dinner. That would be annoying enough on its own, but layer in that we had driven from Austin to Dallas for this meal. We've eaten at Lawry's for Christmas every year for about 40 years and our family tradition was ruined with one voicemail (that didn't even include an apology...I played it, stunned, several times). I called the restaurant as soon as I parked from our 3 hour trek up. No answer and no return call yet today after I left a voicemail for them yesterday. The cherry on the sundae was getting an email from Open Table on our drive back down to Austin that the restaurant had reported me/us as a no show. Unreal.

Be the first to ReplyI would never take anyone there ever again.
The food was horrible! Steak and salad and what ever that pudding was disgusting!! The only thing that was i considered good was the atmosphere and singing.

I have eaten here for dinner a lot over the years with nothing but excellent comments. Today I stopped for lunch and ran into Sam the carver, what a miserable attitude! Very much doubt I will ever return.
