not recommended place
I absolutely do not recommend this place... we arrived 15 minutes late due to traffic and our table had already been given away for who knows how long, plus they told us to wait and as soon as a table became free they would call us, AFTER, I repeat , AFTER us another couple of 2 ladies arrived, also late, they waited with us for 10 minutes and let them go first. We waited for another 30 minutes. So I went to ask the girl at the reception for information and she very rudely told me that since we arrived late she couldn't do anything about it, I calmly tried to explain to her that it was 15 minutes and not 30. Her response it was: "if you want to leave, leave, I'm not interested!". I strongly advise against this place, extra rude.

This spot was a great place. Food was amazing. Atmosphere was great. The vibe was upbeat and fun ! Would definitely recommend for a nice night out in NYC
Be the first to ReplyWe Really Enjoyed Lavo!
We really enjoyed Lavo. The restaurant has a nice, warm feel to it. Energetic vibe. Music is loud but not overbearing as long as you are not looking for a quiet dining experience. The hostesses were very pleasant and our waiter Leo was nice, very attentive and made some good suggestions. The fried calamari was very good with a marinara that is exactly what you want. Good Caesar salad but a little overdressed. The chicken Parmesan was very good but didn’t come with pasta so I ordered a side of spaghetti with marinara and it was perfect. The ribeye steak was very large, perfectly seasoned and perfectly medium and very tender. Probably as good as any ribeye I’ve had. The side of fries were some of the best I’ve ever had! Seriously. I always use ketchup and no ketchup was necessary! Actually, ketchup would detract from the wonderful flavor of the fries.
Be the first to ReplyLarge portions and nice atmosphere
We found a great TravelZoo deal for a prix fix dinner which included a Caesar salad, a giant meatball, salmon, chicken Parmesan abs penne vodka along with a tiramisu and a bottle of wine. It was a very good deal and the food portions were very big. The meatball and tiramisu were amazing. Definitely the highlight of the meal. The ambiance of the restaurant was very nice. Great for a date night and the service was very friendly. We enjoyed the evening and the meal.
Be the first to ReplySuperb food and service.. doesn't get better than that
No reservation but arrived about 5.30pm on a Thursday and were a bit concerned as no one else in the restaurant but having travelled trans Atlantic we were not for moving and what transpired was a wonderful culinary experience and within 30 minutes the restaurant was heaving which was a testament to how great the food was. Three different pasta dishes were superb as we all shared a taste of each.. highly recommended.. and the gratis focaccio and tomato sauce really hit the spot.. Top Notch
Be the first to ReplyPoor Service, there are better restaurants out there for the price.
Food was decent and the ambience was really nice. The main issue I had with the restaurant was the service. I get that it gets busy on a Friday night, but there is a certain level of service that they need to maintain. 1. Bring the cutlery before the food. We were left out hanging with our plate cooling down while waiting for forks and knives. 2. Bring the food all at once. It is rude to start eating when others are still waiting for their food. 3. Having to remind the waitress multiple times on little things like a napkin or bringing the bread basket. 4 The attitude of certain waiters was unacceptable. For example bringing 4 desert menus and handing out only one at our table while chatting and being distracted with another group of people sitting at a table near us and giving a ridiculous explanation that he couldn’t give us the menus because our table was too big (i was ver confused). 5 forgetting my desert after bringing everyone else’s and bringing the check when i didn’t get my desert and the table was still finishing their meal. It really feels like the waiters are not being paid enough or they are under qualified for this line of work. Definitely not worth going back.
Be the first to ReplyBusy Italian, great food and insanely priced wine
We arrived 5 minutes before our booking tine and ended up having to wait nearly 20 minutes for our reserved table… not just us… We were seated in a lovely little booth.. We ordered the speciality meatball starter and arancini - both were excellent but I wish the server had given us the heads up how big they were though.. we’ve been to so so many good restaurants where they are informative explaining portion sizes.. We had different pasta dish mains which were also very good but we wasted quite a lot as the starters were so big (not that we even finished them) The wine prices are mental!! We ordered the only reasonable priced bottle of red (I use the word reasonable very lightly!! 70 dollars Valpolicella! They naturally didn’t have any left as I’m sure everyone drinking red would order that one. The prices really escalate from there .. we just ordered a glass each as you have to draw a line somewhere. I’m still giving it 4 purely as the food itself is very good.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Service and Food
Visited based on a personal recommendation and were not disappointed. The ambience is superb, the service attentive and the food was excellent.
Be the first to ReplyYou guess I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE.
The reason we went was because in the city that never sleeps, restaurants now close before midnight, except for this one in this location, near the hotel where we were staying. The music is unbearably loud, to the point that you can't hold a conversation, the restaurant is classified as a night club, but it doesn't have a dance floor, the night club is next door. Certain tables have tablecloths, and others do not, but they charge the same for all of them, the hostess sat us in the one that did not have one, I felt discriminated against, the young people had tables with tablecloths, we did not. The appetizer, fried misto, was delicious, we didn't complain, but my pasta was miserable, wheezy, reheated, dry and 6 ravioli with something dark green that looked like toasted seaweed. Diners eat there while waiting for the club to open at midnight, it's like being at a gas station where they fill up gas for the next trip, we didn't go anywhere, it was very disappointing. You guess I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE.

Great food and service. Reservation is recommend as the restaurant is mostly crowded most of the time. Not very great on dessert but the main dishes are great.
Be the first to ReplyGreat dining and nightclub!
My friends, family and I have been coming to lava for years. We love the weekend staff and food is always great. We sometimes end up having a few cocktails at the nightclub underneath the restaurant. It’s always a blast! Just make sure you look great so the doorman won’t ignore you. Lol
Be the first to ReplyThe must visit place in NYC
The meatball with ricotta is maybe the most delicious meatball that I have ever tried, considering that I have tired really a lot. Amazing pasta ravioli with goat cheese. We were 8 people, everyone was super satisfied from his dish. The steaks were also delicious. The atmosphere is great, the staff is friendly. The place is must visit in NYC. Keep up the good reputation for another century guys!
Be the first to ReplyA solid triple hit
Food was delicious and service was very friendly. Had a nice atmosphere with people dressed smartly. Food was very delicious as well. It was a nice experience but not a joke run… maybe a triple?
Be the first to ReplyLovely environment
A lovely environment. Staff were friendly, service was OK. Set meal is good value for money. Wasn’t a big fan of the steak sauce but started and truffle fries were wonderful.
Be the first to ReplyLoud, boisterous, excellent italian cuisine, friendly enthusiastic service
Lavo is an interesting restaurant in that it is paired with a nightclub. However, as a diner, one is not really aware that this is a night spot apart from the appropriately attired folks who wander in as the evening wears on. This is what I have come to expect, and love about good italian restaurants but be warned; it may not be for everyone.
As COVID continues to be a factor, there are outdoor spaces here you can choose if you prefer, but many people, including us, were seated inside. Everyone has to prove vaccination here, as everywhere else in NYC and as paranoid as I am about the virus, life does have to assume some risk and it is up to us all to evaluate that. The wait staff here are masked all the time.
Really excellent food, especially the appetizers. The meatball is deliberately given in the singular as it is large and very sharable. Fantastic flavors as was also found in the calamari (italian staple) with spicy sauce that we also ordered. Perhaps the star of the show, indeed for the whole meal, was the arancini which I always order if I see it on the menu since it is so hard to make at home. This example was perfectly cooked and presented as a doughnut! It looked exactly like a doughnut!
The main courses were also of an excellent standard. I ordered the gnocchi which was very good and everyone else pronounced theirs equally delicious. It is only the excellence of the appetizers that makes me less gushing about the entrees.
Now for the aspect that may not thrill everyone. This place is LOUD. If you are here, as we were, in a party of more than 4 it is hard to converse over the table. If you are a couple there are booths and two tops where this will be less of an issue but voices will still need to be raised. This isn't offensive noise, there are no TVs in sight (hurray) and it isn't loud music but rather the sounds of a boisterous, energetic restaurant. For italian cuisine especially, I like this, but it is a little wearing after a long meal so be warned if this bothers you. Might be better outside.
Service was excellent. I always ask servers for their recommendations and here this led to many great conversations throughout the meal. There is a large selection of wines too, expensive for sure but not excessive which was the case for the whole meal. It is an experience, not for you if you are looking for a quiet, romantic conversation-filled meal but otherwise you will have a good time here I'm sure.
Great Experience!
Had a good time with this restaurant! Food was great and delicious! Ambiance and view was perfect too! This place is a must for a dinner dates. Would commend the staff especially Jamie who assisted me with everything that i need. She was very kind and accommodating. Will definitely come back!
Be the first to ReplyIncredible brunch
Lavo has an amazing Sunday brunch that we had yesterday. They were "prepping" for the Easter brunch in a month, and the selection of food was huge. Started with a classic bagel and lox. The lox was fresh and amazing. Next was a selection of muffins, fruit and chocolate croissant. After the "breakfast" portion of Brunch, moved on to "lunch". Fresh pasta station with home made Alfredo sauce, fresh made pizza, sirloin sliced to order (which was awesome), a raw bar and lots of salads and antipasta to try. Last was the desert - WOW save room, it was incredible. Chocolate fountain, fresh cakes and cookies - the BEST chocolate cake with peanut butter ganache - I needed to be rolled out of the restaurant!
Be the first to ReplyGreat Lunch on a Cold Rainy Day
We went with another couple and each of us ordered a prix fixe lunch. For appetizers three of us had the mussels and one a tuna tartar. We all thought our dishes were excellent. For our entrees two had salmon, one had the ribeye steak and I had the chicken marsala. Again we all enjoyed our entrees. Dessert was a chocolate Nutella pudding, two cheese cakes and an Oreo zeppole. Each couple shared. The portions were more than large enough for lunch, we enjoyed the ambiance and Peter was a friendly, knowledgeable and efficient server. Enjoy the prix fixe lunch for an excellent NYC value.
Be the first to ReplyGreat casual dining restaurant in midtown just south of central park
Vary varied menu. Right by the Plaza hotel if you happen to be staying there.
No need to dress up. We got there at 7:00 and had no problem getting a table although any later you would be wise to get reservation.
The salmon literally melted in your mouth. Eggpland appetizer was huge and I still wished it was bigger it was soo good.
Definitely worth a try.
