Uniformly great!
Always terrific great food (and a lot of it!) this is one of our favorites. Comfortable and casual yet top notch bistro food, don’t skip the rice pudding for dessert!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent dinner in super ambiance
We had a great dinner with super ambiance in a very cosy place. Riz de veau was super as well as riz au lait… do not hesitate.

Dined at L'Ami Jean for dinner on 9/19/23. We were seated for the first dinner service of the evening at 7:00. We ordered a bottle of wine, 4 appetizers, and 4 entrees. We were seated for 55 minutes. We didn't even get the chance to finish our appetizers and the entrees were coming to the table. Extremely rushed through the whole experience. Dined there bacck in 2018 and were really looking forward to it. Food was excellent but not worth the cost to sit for 55 minutes.
Be the first to ReplyAvoid this place, if the cooks don't want to be there, you don't
NO, NO, NO...... being a chef, I came here to just have a casual meal that should have been a no brainer. Orderd the razor clams which were sandy and some of them had broken shells. The filet was over cooked and tasted like it was unsalted.... the kitchen sounded like a bunch of shoemakers with the head one yelling that she wanted to go home.... WTF... what a joke.

Excellent, excellent, excellent. One of our top meals of Paris. We started with the octopus with chicken broth foam...AMAZING! My wife then had the sea bass and I had the steak...and we shared mashed potatoes. OMG. All so delicious. And the portions were HUGE. We sat outside at the bar, since it was a nice day. The inside restaurant looked a little squished. But the service outside was terrific. We ordered glasses of wine, and they even came around to top off our glasses. Even the chef came to visit. Overall, an outstanding meal...one that I will never forget.

The review about bad service are overblown. Everyone was reasonably nice and helpful to this American family of four. Food was excellent. Ours was a somewhat faster meal compared to some others we’ve had in France - sure because maybe they do want to turn over the tables but honestly we didn’t mind. They didn’t rush us out and asked if we wanted coffee after dessert. All in all very nice place just be patient and polite they will treat you well.

If you’re looking for real Parisian food as it should be with classics presented in a non-trumped up way then here’s your answer. Ambiance plus authenticity = a unique experience.
Be the first to Reply10 stars for our meal
Easy walk from our Hotel Vernet. My amazing Fiance is a LM incredible chef and restaurant owner. He researched all the restaurants we were eating so I knew this one would be outstanding. We loved the communal style seating & even though I don’t eat meat there was plenty on the menu for me. Ok…,can I say how much I loved the mashed potatoes?! Our meal was absolutely incredible & when I told a friend we had eaten there she said she had been 15 years ago on her last Paris visit. With over 15,000 restaurants in Paris there are an overwhelming number of choices. Add L’Ami Jean to your “must go” list. And make sure to order the rice pudding.
Be the first to ReplyIncredibly disappointing. A tourist trap.
Following all the good reviews we chose to eat here on a recent trip (our fourth to Paris) and were shocked by the mediocrity of the food and in fact the entire experience. Food is bland and plain and served in weird bowls. Restaurant is too brightly lit and very cramped and extremely hot. More like a diner than a bistro. It's also extraordinarily expensive given the lack of creativity of the dishes. I don't normally post negative reviews but felt other travelers should be warned--in our opinion this is a tourist trap. And filled with loud Americans literally screaming at the top of their lungs.
Be the first to ReplyWaitress is rude, food over price
Very Disappointed! Not worth it!!! waitress is terribly rude! I was so disappointed this time. Their food price pumps up a lot from last time I went. Everything is different from my 1st visit 3 years ago. The waitress is very rude from the very beginning when we entered into the bistro. We just felt like we were dinning under pressure, and felt being afraid of bothering the waitress if we wanted to place an order or ask question about the menu. I come to Paris many times each years and have been to a lot of different bistro. This is the the worst bistro! I have crossed it out from my list!
Be the first to ReplyOver priced tourist trap packed with loud Americans
The bread was good. The rest - not so much. We ordered a 6 course menu. One of us wanted just a main, but they refused, so we all had to do the full menu. None of the dishes were anything astonishing. All average or below. Pretty tasteless and dull all of it. I remember a rabbit stew none of us finished, and some tasteless mussels. The best part was dessert: rice porridge with almonds. Unbelievable. The peak of the night was, surprise, surprise, the bill: sky high. What a disappointment...
Be the first to ReplyGreat tastes Easy and Fun restaurant
Had a beautiful diner! Easy relaxing and casual atmosphere! Great tastes good portions! Parmesan soup, artichoke and clams and razor clams : all Top! Then duck and a bird (not pigeon) my husband loved it. Rice pudding and chocolate mouse seriously good. Overall nice tastes and happy casual night! Good prices also
Be the first to ReplyThe worst restaurant experience in Paris
Went there on the recommendation of friends. The whole experience was bad. Overcrowded, hot, screaming chef (mostly I think for show), very limited menu and underwhelming food. So many better places in Paris. Do not waste your time.
Be the first to ReplyFood might be great but cheek-by-jowl seating at common table isn't Covid friendly
We booked a table with some difficulty at this popular, highly-rated bistro and arrived at the appointed time, only to realize that what is described as "cosy" seating is really sitting at same table with chairs touching each other. With 8-9 chairs on one side of table against the wall, it's very claustrophobic. With the dining experience the night before at a small restaurant with separate tables (see review of La Bourse et La Vie) we decided to pass. I wish that reviews on this site were more honest in pointing out the negatives of a restaurant, for a balanced review. Again, the food here might be the best in the world and lots of people obviously aren't bothered by the close quarters but for those who are, I thought fair warning was only fair
Be the first to ReplyHuge servings of classics!
Fair warning we came on a Saturday to make a reservation for the following Wednesday and it was a zoo!! A big turnoff of a crowd. We still took the reservation and returned on Wednesday and it was much better. Stayed for a good lunch if a bit overpriced from our last visit and they no longer offer a fixed lunch. Also for how much you charge please spend the money and get SHARP KNIVES!! You might also remove one or two tables to recent us sitting on roof one another (if your back is to the wall visit the toilet before being squeezed in).The chef who is very good loves to yell in the kitchen at I guess the workers which a bit disquieting. The service is great. All the people were warm and friendly. I will add here that perhaps the chefs penchant for yelling adds to an uncomfortable atmosphere for the workers there.
Be the first to ReplyGreat tasty bistro
We loved it. This is what a bistro should be. Based on available ingredients , cooked precisely (in most dishes), not overly complicated, good portions, nice variety to choose from, good wine list. Tasty. There were some little faults (like sand in the razor clams, or less successful lamb cut) but the precision of cooking, graving, side dishes, and plating made it a great experience. We went for the munu (5 dishes) with choices. Pricey wine list. Its either low level or high level (which is not suitable for the dishes served). Missing mid level. Good glasses (Bordeaux and burgundy). Wines in good temperature, decanter available.
Be the first to ReplyBest chef menu we had in Paris
This was our best dinner in Paris! The adults had the tasting menu which involved many inventive small dishes, an excellent Parmesan soup. The kids had beef that came out on fire! The waiter recommended a perfect glass of wine for my dinner. Highly recommend.

This is the reason you come to Paris and hunt out the best local places. There are not many tables and you will need to book well ahead. You won’t be disappointed. The menu is short and simple but full of flavours and techniques to enjoy. You will likely order something then get immediate food envy as you see incredible, and often smoking dishes, emerge from the open kitchen. Not to everyone’s taste but I had the razor clams which were an absolute treat. Others in my party had the pork casserole and the duck. All very good. Fight to get a table
Be the first to ReplyDelicious Meals and Outstanding Service
The staff was very attentive and helpful with menu recommendations and translation with a great sense of humor. Our food was simply incredible. We highly recommend the slow roasted veal and the slow roasted beef with vegetables. The mashed potatoes were wonderful as well as the chocolate caramel dessert. All in all we had a delightful dining experience. Thank you to the talented chef and staff.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food
Great food served in a busy but charming bistro. All our dishes was fantastic and staff friendly. The wines was served a bit too warm and there was a feeling that the restaurant was a bit understaffed. But this was simply not that important when you where able to enjoy that great food.
Be the first to ReplyGreat dining experience!
Always wanted to visit and didn't wait any longer when I finally travelled to Paris post-covid. I was lucky enough to get the last high table during a very busy lunch! Ordered the veal and sweetbread, together with a nice sweet wine, and of course the wonderful rice pudding dessert! Every bite was spectacular and I was just enjoying every single taste and texture presented by the Chef! Very cosy place so I could literally watch him in action in the kitchen! Service is great too and made sure that I'm well taken care of despite the buzz. Highly recommended!

Awesome food. Take the tasting menu and be prepared to be overwhelmed. The dishes are exquisite and tasty. Highly recommended
Be the first to ReplyWow! French Basque at its finest!
The menu looks so delicious that we were stumped on what to order. We asked our waitress to order for us and we were so pleased. Each course was spectacular; cheese soup, rabbit, beef and even sweetbreads we’re all so good. The atmosphere is lively and welcoming. We highly recommend!

Excellent this restaurant is fantastic, authentic original cuisine with a blaze of true French passion. The restaurant just shines with personality and the food is top notch both beef and fish are served, delicious. Make reservations, it’s a contained operation .
Be the first to ReplyAmazing restaurant!
We were lucky that our hotel got us a reservation in this famous bistro at the last night before it closed for the holidays. We sat close to the kitchen and could watch and hear everything the famous chef said to his kitchen staff. The chef definitely has a personality, and it was all for good as the dishes he offered are creative, delicious and modern. We had foie gras, cauliflower, pollack and beef cheek, and everything were done to perfection! The service was excellent. It is such a good value and quality. This is what the legends about Parisian bistros are made and what we come to Paris for! We would definitely come back again.
