Favorite hidden gem in Philly.
Amy at the bar gives the best customer service and there is a new bartender Jacob who is phenomenal too. I highly recommend for afternoon cocktails or a special occasion dinner. Fantastic view of the park (Rittenhouse Square). 5 stars!! Food is incredible.
Be the first to ReplyThe tasting menu was incredibly disappointing.
The total bill for one person came out to $225, and I can think of about 225 different ways to have spent that that would have brought me more joy. To give you some sense for the meal, the raw fish was visibly damaged and smelled fishy, the dessert was bad enough that one of the two options wasn't enough for even my significant sweet tooth and went back after a single bite. The best course was the bread. If you're considering it, do yourself a favor and skip it.
Be the first to Replyvery disappointed.
i felt very rushed, as soon as they put the bread my appetizer came, and then my dinner. Then i order my dessert and she brings the check with it. Are you kidding me, just because i'm by myself eating dinner i shouldn't be rushed. i'm a regular at this hotel, just terrible. And the food was a little salty!!!
Be the first to ReplyThis review is specifically for afternoon tea at The Tea
This review is specifically for afternoon tea at The Tea Room. The Tea Room is located on the first floor of The Rittenhouse Hotel. It's offerings include several selections to experience the tea, from a signature to some more opulent choices including a table side caviar preparation. Champagne is additional with some of the more grander choices. They are also very ADA compliant, for my disabled spouse.
Be the first to ReplyAnd just like that my always insane holiday season work
And just like that my always insane holiday season work rush is over and I can finally catch up on reviews. This place is a rollercoaster of review material. I went for the Xmas buffet. Food was pretty good but things kept running out and it would take forever for it to get replaced. I heard a lot of grumbles about that from the tables around me or other people standing at the raw bar at the same time. Service staff were so amazing. I haven't been so impressed with a server in a long time. Valerie really had her s*** together. Aiyana was also great.Clearly the place is really understaffed though. Why are they taking so many customers when they obviously dont have enough staff? You see that most in the managers. I couldn't believe how much it SHOWED how stressed they were. A bit frantic. I saw one lose her cool at a server in the middle of the dining floor complaining about something the server did that helped a customer have a better experience without giving away free stuff or discounts or whatever so that was baffling to see.Good Food, but not enough.Great staff, but not enough.Managers need some more training.I had a good time but I won't be back. Not worth the price tag.

My Supervisor treated our Unit to breakfast to celebrate the new year. What a treat! The food was deliciously prepared and the service was wonderful.
Be the first to ReplySo romantic, service is impeccable.
Great for a special occasion. Food is decent but have had better :) could do without the wine paining. We had a chef's choice, it was a fun experience.
Be the first to ReplyI have been here multiple times before the pandemic and
I have been here multiple times before the pandemic and have very fond memories of Lacroix , especially the brunch. We were looking forward to coming back for my cousin's birthday. The hostesses were very nice and even said Happy Birthday to my cousin. They checked our coats and seated us promptly. The server came over and offered us still or sparkling water, but nothing else. As in no Bellinis, mimosas, coffee, tea etc. which I thought was odd. We decided on entrees and proceeded to help ourselves with all the accompaniments. They used to have all these stations in the kitchen ( beautiful charcuterie section, hors d'oeuvres, dessert station with nitrogen chocolate and ice cream station). It was a whole experience in and of itself. None of that exist and when we asked the server about it, he said it's more comfortable this way with all the allergies. Lame excuse because allergies existed before all this. The dessert station did look pretty when we walked by, but I'll get to that in a bit. Cold seafood station was a weak showing of shrimp cocktail, smoked salmon and some very fishy and slimy pieces whitefish , a few oysters which were very good (they used to have multiple types of oysters and now only 1 btw) , and if you are going for the caviar, go early because they do not replenish the tiny portion that's put out. Also, there's only 1 type of caviar and salmon roe. The first course was all pretty decent except for the gnocchi that the server insisted on us tasting. We witnessed the table next to us send back the salmon entree and was sent another salmon entree, but still did not eat it. We ordered that same entree and realized why. It had some super thick "truffle" crust on it that did not look or taste good. The server and his assistant saw that we did not touch it and did not say anything about it to us. We did not complain as to not be annoying. Just simply asked to have it packed for one of our pets. They should just take it off the menu. On that note, the mussels and fries, duck and lobster tail entrees were all very tasty and delicious. Our server's assistant was much more attentive to our table. After he cleared our plates, the server came back when he saw we got some desserts. He did not offer coffee or tea. I had to ask if he would mind bringing us some tea to which he replied," I would love to bring you some tea!" We never saw him again. The assistant brought us tea. And we had to ask another server for our check to which he replied, " the check has already been taken care of." Meaning, they already charged the card we used to book the reservation the entire total plus gratuity. I hope the assistant gets a good portion of that gratuity. I don't mind when restaurants include gratuity, but that should not equate to poor service. That's fine and all, but shouldn't you at least show us the bill? Remember those pretty desserts? We tasted each one and not one was good. The dulce de leche macaron tasted like straight up cinnamon and nothing else. Anything that looked like cake (chocolate roll etc) was dry and hard, and the flan was watery. Watery flan. The table next to us was given a special celebration dessert and even though they knew about my cousin's birthday, we did not so thumbs down for that too. Anyhow, the dining room is still beautiful, but we are definitely not looking forward to returning. The staff is friendly and polite. I understand that things are not the same since the pandemic and we are sympathetic about that. But at that price point, you can do better especially when there so many other options in the city.
Be the first to ReplyI recommend the $95/pp weekend brunch buffet if you want
I recommend the $95/pp weekend brunch buffet if you want quantity, with an emphasis on seafood, and a beautiful 2nd floor view of Rittenhouse Park. We came to the weekend brunch for my mom's birthday. We enjoyed our meal (the seafood and desserts in particular), but nothing wowed us despite the hefty price tag (total came to $365 with automatic 20% gratuity and 8% tax). Everything is a buffet except for the entree, which you order from the server a la carte - my partner ordered the lobster, my mom the fish, and I the duck. Duck was cooked well but was way too fatty. The benefit of the buffet is that they serve a LOT of dishes, and there's a whole table dedicated to seafood and desserts. We enjoyed the caviar, lox, and crab legs. The dessert table was also truly impressive with 12+ types of desserts to choose from. But only ~4-5 of them were truly delicious, and the other desserts were quite bland and lacking.Service was attentive and excellent. Ambiance and view were lovely, but the restaurant is extremely narrow, which made navigation through the buffet difficult. The rest of the hotel was honestly quite drab and empty over the holiday, and I was surprised to learn that it has 5 stars.Tip: all non-alcoholic drinks are included in the price of the buffet. Alcoholic drinks are extra. Would we go back again? Probably not. $365 is a lot, and we can get higher quality tasty food elsewhere although we wouldn't have such a lovely view, and they may not be as plentiful.
