There's not much a Celiac diner can eat, but what I did have was yummy. What really stood out was their cocktails and the atmosphere. Came here with friends after a show at the Fox and it was a lot of fun. Unfortunately there was a huge bridal or bachelorette table that was taking away the server's attention, but that's not La Viga's fault. I'll come back but check out the crowd first.

We came hear based on the Yelp reviews and La Viga did not disappoint! The location is perfect (we were coming from SF and meeting someone from SJ). The ambiance is great- big enough to feel like it wasn't claustrophobic, yet small enogh to feel intimate. One person in our party was running late, our server was very attentive and very patient with us! We started with ceviche for apps - and it was a great way to work up our appetite. The server was awesome in recommending dishes- the Carne a la Parrilla, the Tallarines con Mariscos and the arroz con Mariscos - all very delish.

Came on a Thursday early evening for happy hour! They have some good happy hour options. The guacamole and tacos were really yummy. Also ordered some drinks nonalcoholic and alcoholic and the group enjoyed them.
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely coming back here.
A reservation is needed and it fills up quick. The food was delicious and very happy with the drinks. The decor and ambiance was higher class mexican restaurant for the price, very pleased and no complaints :)

What a awesome meal!Friends suggested La Viga after hearing good reviews- yelp reviews were amazing too! We weren't disappointed- made reservations for 5:30pm due to street parking only and small dining area! We were glad we did it! restaurant is beautiful decorated - simple - clean and well managed. We were quickly seated as it was a Sunday and it was still early !Our server took drink orders and we were ready with our orders for appetizers- guacamole- chips and salsa - calamari Fritos! What amazing food - the guacamole was bright green with chunks of cheese and chopped tomatoes- perfectly seasoned and balanced - chips came with 3 different salsas - all very good - calamari fried perfectly and served with a tasty salsa. Nice big chunks and breaded perfectly - when you have appetizers like these who need dinner .... But we were ready for more! Enchilada plate - nicely done - served with white rice and black beans Carne Asada and fish taco both disappeared quickly! They are street tacos and great flavors and they will be ordered again on our next visit!Ceviche trio - if you are here for the 1st time this is a great way to try their ceviche - if you are a returning guest this is a way of getting their different ceviche! The 1st one is shrimp - onions - cucumber and avocado - the 2nd in a tomato base w/ onions - cilantro- salmon (not sure but it was like salmon). And the 3rd and a table favorite- mango - onions- cilantro -and fish all of it excellent and I will order again! The service here is excellent and very attentive- empty dishes quickly picked up - all dishes served at the perfect temperature! Our water glasses always filled - timing of the meal perfect! I'll be back as this was a awesome experience!
Be the first to ReplyI don't normally review, but just disappointed with quality
I don't normally review, but just disappointed with quality of seafood stew and service. We've been to this restaurant many times and considered on of our favorites, but this time it was a hiccup! The presentation was good and 2 scallops , 2 prawns , and lots of carrots was $29. On top of this , the prawns were mushy and definitely it's been dead for a while. For a restaurant like La Viga, quality is a must. Only 2 large scallops were cooked to perfection. I should have sent it back! Lastly, service was not up to par. Dining for 2 at almost $50 per person , and not to get quality food is disappointing. Tipping for good service should still be a norm, and not because it's after the pandemic and tipping at 20% is expected for no service. So, 1 star for service because he brought us food.
Be the first to ReplyNice intimate setting.
I don't recommend for families or big parties since the place is small. Food was not all that for the price. Enjoyed the empanadas. The enchiladas were ok. 3 small regular tacos were about $18. I'd take 3 tacos from a truck for $8 any day.

I would rate it 4 stars + Very good Mexican food, the Ceviche was fresh and tasty. I've been to this restaurant twice, always at lunch time. Ambiance is relaxed and not too noisy despite the size of the room. Eating outside remains an option even though you are literally on the side of a two lanes street. Service was basic, not very attentive but definitely courteous enough.

Super impressed by everything here - food, drinks, vibe, and service were all amazing! The atmosphere was lively, which made for a fun and enjoyable dining experience. We usually dine inside, but when the weather is nice, we love to sit outside. Our servers are always so knowledgeable about the menu and make great recommendations. As for the food, it was delicious and authentic. The chips and salsa were fresh and tasty. The tacos were flavorful and the presentation was lovely - so much attention to detail (didn't take a picture because we scarfed those down LOL). I honestly forgot the name of my drink, but I just remember it being tasty and cute! And you have to try the churros for dessert - to die for!Overall, I always have a wonderful time at this restaurant and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for delicious Mexican food.
Be the first to ReplyCame on a friday night at about 8 pm.
Walked in without a reservation. The vibe was great, clean, casual. The waiter was nice and quick on taking our order. The guac stood out and the shrimp taco was great not sure if itll convince me to come back but i'd love to try something else. The seafood was fresh so it really satisfied my ceviche cravings. Street parking was ample, we parked a little bit down the road, paid 3 dollars for 1.5 hour. Amalia cocktail:Pretty strong, you can taste the mezcal. I was pretty lit from 1/2 the drink. This drink has a smooth smokey, citrus taste. Equally bitter and sweet. Not my kind of drink but worth it if you like it strong. 3/5 The special cocktail:Another mezcal forward cocktail with grapefruit honey rounded notes. I requested something sweet and this is another equally bitter and sweet. Not an easy drink for me but again worth the price because of how strong it is. 3/5 Guacamole:Very fresh avocado. I was slightly salty cos the boyfriend ordered this because I wanted something adventurous but I had to admit it was a good call. The avocado was fresh, smooth and perfectly seasoned. They also serve it with cubed mexican cheese which adds umami, texture and substance. The chips is also very addicting and i think its unlimited. Honestly the ceviche won't be good without them chips! The only complaint is that its too small. 5/5 Ceviche de dorado:Mahi mahi very fresh, the texture is softer than the red snapper so they matched it with crisp mango, sprinkled with tajin. The taste profile is sweet, puckering sour. Slightly more spicy than the pescado. 3/5 Ceviche de pescado:Red snapper was very fresh and matches so well with the flavorful cilantro forward salsa. I would say the spice level is mild. This one is our favorite. 4/5 Aguachile de camaron:Spicy spicy shrimp ceviche. More cucumber and cucumber than shrimp. Shrimp was fresh bouncy with a bite. But the sauce was waaayy too spicy for me. 2/5 Carne asada taco:Loaded with beef. Good flavors but would have loved it if they used a higher quality beef like filet mignon maybe. Its a little too tough. The tortilla has a good masa flavor since its homemade. 3/5 Camarones taco:Fried shrimp taco. This was my favorite. Fresh shrimp with a good bite, perfectly crunchy and balanced with the fresh tomatoes, cilantro and lime. 5/5 Cochinita taco:The pork was tender but still would like a fattier cut since the texture is a little tough. Flavor wise its great. Pretty loaded taco. 3/5 Churros:Crunchy with sweet custard inside. The chocolate drizzle was tasty. It came out very hot. I think it wouldve been better slightly cool with cold custard. Pretty oily too. Nothing too outstanding. Thr boyfriend did love it. 3/5

Fresh and delicious! Have come for dinner a few times and my last visit was lunch with my mom. Dinner is great and the cocktails we get are always good.
Be the first to ReplyWe went to La Viga tonight and had a fabulous dinner.
Lizet was very gracious and squeezed us in at an outside table. Ricardo was an excellent server - he provided great recommendations and checked in on us throughout dinner. We enjoyed the guacamole and salsa as well as calamari to start. The entrees and specialty cocktails were fabulous. We enjoyed the fish entrees, the salmon and chicken tacos, rice, plantains and beans. The churros were a tasty way to end the meal. I highly recommend La Viga!
Be the first to ReplyCame here Friday night around 6:30 without reservations.
The hostess was kind to give us a table and told us we are good until 8...plenty of time!We got the carne asada tacos and pork stew. The flank meat was on the tough side. The pork was a bit salty. We wrapped up the meal with flan which was delicious.Service was friendly and attentive. Though I really don't like the pressure to tip min. 20% (next up 22 then 25.). To me, 20 is above and beyond, both food and service.

After a long day without eating, my friend and I stopped at this restaurant, hoping to get good foodFirst impression was the ambience and decoration. Very impressive and clean. When it came to food, it disappointed at all. But this place is different than other Mexican restaurants..... food were more modern and no chip&salsa serve before meal. Too bad I didn't get to try their drink because it was so hot and I didn't want to get headache. Well next timeParking in street was not hard to find and it was so cheap!!!!! Service was attentive as well.Definitely recommended!!!

Came here today because me and my group of friends were starving and noticed this place had 5 stars.... let me just say, it didn't live up toour expectations at all. I feel like the service sets the mood for your visit at a restaurant and our service definitely set the mood, our server kim, was honestly just not on top of things. We sat and ordered drinks as well as chips and salsa, there was nobody else in the restaurant except for us and I watched her flirt with someone outside the restaurant and then come inside and do the same for at least 25 minutes.... while she had us waiting. I understand being busy working but this wasn't it, she proceeded to bring out chips late and stale and salsas were not good at all. Once we were ready to order our food she made it a point to ignore us, so I had to get someone else's attention who refused to take our order... even though there wasn't anyone else in the restaurant. Our food came out late, stale & not worth the money we spent, which was $100+.this place is 0 stars at most, do not come here!!

Delicious! Made reservations for Saturday evening to celebrate our 11yr anniversary. We arrived a bit earlier than expected and since they had a table available, we were able to be seated. You have to scan a QR code on the table to view the menu. As convenient as it may seem, it does get tough having to keep scrolling or jumping from one tab to the next and waiting for each page to load. We started off with the ceviche trio. It came with "camarones" shrimp ceviche, "dorado" mahi mahi ceviche & "pescado" red snapper ceviche. The shrimp came with cucumber & avocado, the mahi mahi was sweet as it was mixed in with mango, and the red snapper was a bit like a tomato salsa with fish. All were delicious and quite different. We enjoyed it all. The basket of chips almost didn't seem like enough. For our girls, we ordered 1 steak quesadilla with fries. It was small. Not enough for a child with an appetite. Quesadilla was made of maybe an 8" tortilla. It was good though. She enjoyed it but was still hungry afterward. We also ordered the "pollo frito" aka crispy chicken tenders with fries. It was more like a piece of chicken Katsu cut into thin slices on a bed of fries. It was tender and juicy & was still meaty compared to places that pound the meat very thin. Fries were good as well. They were nice and crispy. For myself, I ordered 3 tacos. The tortillas are very fresh. They pile on the toppings which made it a bit hard to take a bite out of but I'd rather there be more than less. "Camarones" shrimp taco"Pescado" red snapper"Carne asada" flap meatAll 3 were very delicious. I would have to say the shrimp was my favorite. I was full after the ceviches & the seafood tacos that I gave my husband 1/2 of the carne asada taco. My husband ordered the arroz con mariscos closely like a paella. This was the main reason he chose this restaurant. He was very much satisfied which his pick. He shared a few bites with me but he devoured it so quickly afterward. It came with shrimp, mussels, chicken & chorizo. So good. The flavor was not overwhelming and it came out piping hot! Definitely recommend this place for a fancier Mexican meal. I would come in just for the ceviche as a full meal or midday snack with friends if in the area. We will definitely be coming back to try out more of the menu.
Be the first to ReplyThis place used to be the place to go eat pre-COVID.
During COVID, food quality went down the drain with service. That being said, I gave this place a shot last week on a whim. They remodeled and the food is back to the awesome food I came to expect from here. The menu did get minimized somewhat. For example, the whole fish no comes by itself. In the past, it used to come with vegetables to make it a hearty dinner. The omission of sides for this specific entree was a bummer. However, with everything tasting good and the drinks kicking, I will definitely be coming back.
Be the first to ReplyI went to check this place out.
Not sure what the hype is all about. We ordered drinks, tacos, and chicken & shrimp enchiladas. The tacos were basic. $5 each. The carne asada meat was dry and over cooked. The shrimp taco was simple. Just shrimp and salsa. The enchiladas had fried shrimp in it. I never had breaded shrimp in an enchilada before. It did not taste good. The chicken enchiladas are not great either. I make much better enchiladas myself. My friend was expecting amazing food because of the reviews. The drinks were okay. Maybe I'll have to try their ceviche next time.

La Viga is located away from the main stream eateries just south of downtown Redwood City, this place exceeded our expectations. The menu includes many options, the plating was very nice, and the food was upscale. Service was also on point. We had a great experience overall and look forward to coming back.
