We have been to this restaurant many times before and the food is truly outstanding.
However on this occasion the lady at front of house was absolutely appalling. It was my wife’s first Mother’s Day and we were told on arrival that we should’ve told them upon booking we would require a high chair but we explained this was not pointed out when we booked. We were seated a moment later so presumed there to be no issue
We ordered a bottle of wine and upon asking for a high chair we were told one wasn’t available. The front of house lady was very standoffish and showed no intention on trying to help us find a workable solution. She offered another chair but for a 9 month old we didn’t see that as appropriate.
She again reminded us we should’ve told them upon booking and we made the point that it would’ve been nice to know there wouldn’t be a high chair for us to use before we were sat down and spent decent amount of money on wine as we would’ve gone somewhere else and saved the upset.
The response was effectively shoulder shrug and not my problem.
We completely accepted that despite it not usually being a prerequisite for a lunch booking that we would’ve been best to give them a heads up - but we were embarrassed to sit holding a baby for 20 mins and allowed to order drinks before finding out we couldn’t have a high chair. The lady also said they only had one high chair at the restaurant which was already being used, so we didn’t really see what difference it could’ve made letting them know ahead of time anyway.
The lady could clearly see my wife was becoming upset and made no attempt to make her feel more comfortable or less embarrassed.
Unbeknownst to her my wife is a full time carer to her mother who has dementia and was already having a very tough Mother’s Day so just a positive attitude could’ve made all the difference rather than an immediate blame game. She offered no apology or kind words despite my wife leaving in tears. Our home situation isn’t her concern but still think it doesn’t cost anything to try and be kind and make someone feel better when they are clearly upset - especially when it’s all down to an innocent mistake.
I settled the bill for the drinks and we left without fuss.
Again - food is outstanding but on this occasion the front of house completely let the side down and despite our long love for the restaurant we won’t be going again.
