A very bad experience for a star
In short, a very bad experience for the restaurant from start to finish, particularly in terms of service which is very far from what one would expect from a starred restaurant. In the long version, we go to a gourmet restaurant twice a year with my wife, for our different birthdays, and we're starting to do a few and out of the ten we've had so far, it's really the worst experience we've ever had. were able to live in, in addition to being by far the most expensive. We arrived early (7:15 p.m.), the weather was nice and we had heard about the aviary and the outside. We are told that it is already full and that it is impossible to have an aperitif there, we declare that we would like to see this exterior at some point, we are told that they will come back to us or that we will be able to the end of the dinner. The meal begins well, we are explained the chef's project which is to take you on a journey around the premises, a great project. the first dishes arrive and follow this project well, some are not necessarily very good but we understand the constraint of local products. Only, from halfway through the meal, there is no longer any description of the dishes in relation to the local area, the journey no longer exists or we no longer even take the time to describe it. The service was therefore soulless and included several errors. Sometimes we are told that we are not told what we are eating on purpose so that we can guess, but no one came back to tell us what it was. We never had the same server and therefore no continuity. 2 different servers asked us twice in 5 minutes about my wife's allergies even though I had indicated them in writing when making my reservation and orally when confirming in advance. We had still and sparkling water because I specified at the start of the meal that I only drink still water and my wife only sparkling water and in the end, we were not careful and they gave us served 2 large glasses of still water to both of us. So only sparkling water remained in the middle of the meal. The waiters filed past one after the other and you could tell that they didn't really believe in the project. The meal was really forgettable, we took the menu in 8 courses in order to test as many flavors as possible but we were very disappointed, I found at least 3 of the 8 dishes to be unsuccessful and I really had difficulty digesting some dishes (I still have a stomach ache 12 hours after the restaurant). The monkfish was poorly cooked and rubbery, the pre-dessert was tasteless. However, some dishes were very successful but we ask for more from a 150 euro menu! At the end, I asked to see the outside again since no one had come back to us, we were told that it was dark and that it was closed... The waiter knew that at the end of the meal, he would be dark, I understand that I was taken for an idiot by delaying my request, a shame.... When it's time to pay, almost 20 minutes of waiting, we leave the person alone at the checkout while around fifteen people wait, it's like being in a bistro at lunchtime. In turn, I am asked my name 3 times before finding my table after 2 minutes, I have never seen that, the restaurant is not that big after all.... In short, to avoid... If you are looking for a gastronomic experience in the area, go to a bistronomic, you will be better received there and save money.

Perfect for a family lunch, our birthday, great welcome, smiling staff, very discreet. Exceptional cuisine, perfect service. Go there with your eyes closed. After meal, a little walk in the park, great.

Wow, it’s a real pleasure to have visited this unique place, both for the hotel and for the dinner. All the staff are attentive, very close to chat and with professional service. Happiness is on the plate, the happiness of the big menu is real! Discoveries, blends, great quality,... sometimes it's missing because it's so excellent. Very nice kitchen, nice place, nice stay!!
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing service, sommelier providing bad advice and unpleasant!
Disappointing service not up to par with the restaurant! Somelier of bad advice and haughty person (blaming customers for having had an aperitif with too much alcohol is bloated!) Failed cocktail not to be repeated! Fortunately the contents of the plate were exceptional as usual...

A warm and attentive welcome. The staff is very pleasant. The place is relaxing and friendly. I really appreciated the comments for each dish, as well as for each accompanying wine.

Very pleasant moment, timeless. Everything was great: the atmosphere, the team, the setting and of course the cuisine which lived up to the reputation of Chef Éric Guerin.

I have wanted to go to this restaurant for a long time. We took the intermediate menu (two starters, fish, meat and dessert) and it was a real taste and visual pleasure. A special mention to the chestnut/marrow ravioli, a delight. A caring and friendly staff, serious, but in a good mood. A regret, neither on arrival, nor on departure, nor during the service, we can not see the chef and interact with him, it's a shame when you travel 700km round trip to taste his cuisine.

Careful and smiling service in a very pretty, cozy setting with original tableware. In summer the garden must be enchanting, in winter an aperitif by the fire. The cocktails are original but too expensive (lots of ice). The chef introduces us to surprising and refined flavors. Wine pairing too expensive for the quantities served.

What more can we say than what we can read in the 5* reviews? This place is magnificent and especially relaxing when you are looking for peace and quiet surrounded by nature. We were able to enjoy the spa with a magnificent sunset, a magical moment! The room on stilts was great as was the 8-course meal with the “Great Migration” menu which was just perfect! (...but disappointed by the wine pairing proposed by a not very involved sommelier). A beautiful journey among the birds throughout the meal. Thank you to all the staff of this establishment for their welcome and professionalism. An experience that begs to be repeated.
Be the first to ReplyCould be perfect if not so ostentatious and showy
First of all this is a great place to indulge yourself. Located in the famous Briere marsh that is a Regional natural Park and should be leveled to the rank of National Park, so much special, unique and amazing. The restaurant itself is pristine, everything is perfectly neat and I recommend with weather permission the outdoors sitting in a wonderful garden with many birds such as wonderful herons or special brand poultry that are running free on the grass or around the customers tables, nice entertainment. But we get there to enjoy a meal and this was a great one even if small bugs occurred here and there. Overhaul food is great, original, tasty and beautiful presentation, with the stress put on local products from farms, cattle and fishing. Before the Appetizers and the Entrees they serve a bunch of amazing and delicious small bites that are almost a meal by themselves Also a special mention about the great wine list, large choice, even if prices are pretty high, a connoisseur can find out some good bargains. But there is a but. When you are granted a 1 star ranking - called "macaron" - by the Michelin guide, customers expect more perfection than showy ostentation. High end and sophisticated but not easy going. All the failures listed here under should not happen, not so many at one time meal, and cost this nice place the ranking "excellent" even if anyway this was a very good experience: - first, when booking you are asked your credit card to guarantee a huge fee - higher than the menu price - in case of no show or late cancellation, the first time this happens to me, friends says this becomes more and more usual in France but I can't have it ...money, money - the waiter proposed the starter drinks without showing the wine list, when comes the bill I was surprised by the price of the regular champagne glass. They perfectly know or should do, that when you are with other people it is somewhat breaking the feast ambiance if you start arguing asking the prices ... very unfair way to do ... money, money ... - then there was a mismatch between the orders when bringing the appetizers, not a big deal of course, but when they brought the next course I tried to help telling which was for who, unfortunately the waitress told me strictly that she knew her job, kind of arrogance, then I could not help recalling her that sometimes they fail as this just had happened for the appetizers … Bad mark. - I ordered calf “sous la mere” – means it never ate anything else than the mother’s milk – The waiter dis not ask my choice for the cooking and I did expect the cook would know about the cooking to perfection then I let it go. I was disappointed with this piece of meat which was overcooked and too dry i.o. smooth as expected. - As desert I ordered chocolate soufflé that came almost cold that is not the state of the art for this meal. Chief Eric Guerin is said not to attend the kitchen nor the business all the time, nor very often, reported to be busy writing cooking books, showing in media and so on. The one say here around starts telling this place would be overrated, as the boss should be there more often. I guess this is the opinion of mean people who did not visit and have to be careful about rumors but anyway there are some signs owner should take care of.
