We made reservations three months ago.
Today (a few hours before our rez), they left us a voice mail canceling our reservation without any explanation or apology. And when our concierge at the hotel called to make sure we understood the message correctly, they were extremely rude to her, too. This was supposed to be the highlight of our trip. What assholes.

Great food, service, and the history behind it.
Be the first to ReplyThe view and the atmosphere is great.
However, the food quality is very unimpressive, to the extent that it's almost below mediocre. All the dishes are bland and lack of texture and layers. The main dish is a sea bass, which is very bland and stiff, almost not feeling fresh. The sauce also feels cheap. This is the first time I had a meal at a Michelin star restaurant in Paris, and I'm quite disappointed. The service is great, but the decor is quite outdated, all those are minor comparing to the mediocre food quality.

Do not do the tasting menu here, order a la carte and you'll have an excellent experience. We loved some of our dishes a lot and some were disappointments so we'd rather save the money and enjoy our whole meal. Servers here were amazing, truly attentive and responsive. Despite the inconsistent dishes, we had an incredible experience and would come back again. The restaurant is gorgeous and the ambiance is wonderful.Highly recommend the macaroni and lamb. The rest of the tasting menu wasn't great, especially the turbot which was not a good texture.

The restaurant was beautiful, the location was beautiful too. The staff was very attentive. The bread alone won my heart. I would give anything for the the croissant style roll. The courses were paced well. They did not have an English menu available, so I had to leave some to the imagination while ordering. I highly recommend and we will definitely be back.
Be the first to ReplyMost beautiful restaurant I've ever been to.
The wait staff was impeccable, the food was absolutely phenomenal and the ambiance was out of this world romantic. No doubt it's a Michelin restaurant. Would absolutely go back to this restaurant in a heart beat!

View and atmosphere is great however the food left a little bit to be desired. Extensive wine list.

We came invited by our parents, a bit afraid that it would be too stuffy for us, but it was actually great.True, the place itself doesn't feel modern at all - it is all old-school wall coverings, brocade and noble colors, except the odd-looking bright purple table decoration which looked like a futurist lava lamp. The food however is much more inventive than we expected. You don't have that many 'classical' French dishes: we had coco gambas, snacked Asian-style tuna... on top of the more traditional dishes such as truffle chicken and raspberry & cream dessert. Overall, everything was delicious and nothing was boring. Also, the bread and butter is to die for - I think I ate as much bread as I ate proper food :)I don't know if I would choose to come back to La Grande Cascade if it was not a gift, because I felt that the price point was still pretty high (same price range than Kei, which has 2 Michelin stars and is one level above in terms of quality, I would say). But it was a great experience, and I feel super lucky to have been there.
Be the first to ReplyThis is hands down the most beautiful restaurant I have
This is hands down the most beautiful restaurant I have been to in Paris. Grand and elegant, it basically looks like a scene out of a movie. The service was so professional and impeccable (by far the best service I have had in a restaurant as well) and the whole meal was a delight. I apologize because I never took any photos here (it was before I started being crazy with taking food pictures) which I regret so badly! I came here for a set course dinner with wine pairing (also my first time doing wine pairing). This was about 2 years ago so I'm sorry that I don't remember the menu I do remember that the fish was cooked to perfection and the dessert (it was something with yuzu) was not very impressive. Being a bread lover the one thing that sticks out in my mind is the brioche feuilletee that was served. HOLYYYYYY. I had one and one was NOT enough. It was sweet yet there was a salty tinge to it and it was SO flakey on the top but the brioche was SO soft on the inside. I wish I could go back to just buy a bag of brioches! The best brioche feuilletee in Paris for sure (and trust me I have hunted). Lastly, as part of dessert they served a super aged comte. This was the first time I tried comte and after this I completely became obsessed with it and began exploring the various cheeses in Paris. So basically, it changed my life! Who doesn't LOVE cheese?!I almost feel like because I have no pictures that I need to go back to eat here again. For sure this has been the BEST and most memorable Michelin star experience I have had. HIGHLY recommend this place!
Be the first to ReplyThe best place during this trip to Paris.
This is a historical place, nestled in a forest, it used to be a hunting lodge for the kings of France. Lots of history here. You feel like you are in a palace as soon as you walk in. the crystal chandeliers, rich plush chairs and beautiful decorations make you feel like a queen or king. The staff is very nice so you really feel like royalty. The menu offers three degustation manus, one of them is vegetarian. I would recommend getting the wine paired with the menu you pick. It will be pricey but it is an amazing experience for your pallet.Every dish was prepared with extreme care and you tasted the star of the dish, perfectly seasoned and very fresh. The do offer a very nice bread made with croissant type dough, just don't fill up on that because there are a lot of dishes served so you need to enjoy every dish. With dessert we got a nice old port that was delicious. An amazing experience that you have to try at least once in a lifetime.
