Generous portions of food (including an enormous Wiener schnitzel I ordered), however the place was very hot and claustrophobic. Other osterias and trattorias have far better value for money compared to this place.
Be the first to ReplyBest dinner we had !
I thought this restaurant was going to be more about the scene and the hype. More of a fun dinner out with a good vibe rather than amazing food. I was wrong. Best meal we had in Florence. Actually, best meal we had after 5 days in Rome as well. And we ate amazing food all week. The fried artichokes, stracciatella, Florence steak, boar bolognese, and cheesecake were amazing. Service, wine and cocktails were great too

Everything was delicious. It is a local place. I recommend make reservations since it is very famous for having the Authentic Tuscan flavors and refined hospitality. Under the twinkling amber lights, super romantic place I recommend it.
Be the first to ReplyExceeded our expectations! We will be back soon
We live in Florence part of the year and have been meaning to eat at La Giostra for some time. All the great reviews and Soldano's pictures with his happy patrons made it a must do. Today, my wife and I finally made it for Valentine's Day, albeit at lunch, because dinner had been fully booked for weeks already. To start, we shared their Seafood, fennel and orange salad, which was delicious. For Primo piatto she ate the Papardelle al Cinghiale, deliciously Tuscan and I had Tagliatelle with Artichokes, a steady simphony of honest Italian cuisine. A beautiful bottle of Sangiovese wine provided the context of a wonderful experience, which ended in us sharing their awesome Tarte Tatin. Service was impecable. Their prices are commesurate with the experience.

I chose La Giostra as my wedding anniversary/birthday restaurant - pressure! The establishment did not disappoint. Efficient friendly and engaging service from everyone that managed our table. Beautiful decor, great music - just a great atmosphere overall. We received complimentary crostini from the chef - a nice surprise. The wine list is extensive with pricey and affordable options. We had the shrimp salad and dry cured prosciutto for starters. And treated ourselves to a shared bistecca as our mains. It was really good. This is not fine dining - it is good food, done with a fine dining attitude - lovit!

reservation is a must! Excellent service, quality wines and multiple price tiers and very good service. Our family thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of this restaurant! Highly reccomend
Be the first to ReplyTerrible Experience
I went here with lots of high expectations. I’ve heard from so many that this is the best restaurant ever so the bar was set pretty high when I went in. I got the carbonara pasta and was quite dissatisfied when there was a piece of STEEL WOOL in my mouth. Once I spit it out and told the waitress she treated it like it was no big deal and just brought me out a replacement pasta. When it came time to pay i was shocked to see a restaurant of such prestige still charged me for a dish that could have killed me! Not only this but the food is wayyy overpriced and you can get these tastes and better all around Florence for half the price. They keep the place dimmly lit for a reason.

Nice food and wine but not equivalent to the price! Staff were very helpful and building is beautiful but other than that I wouldn’t recommend.
Be the first to ReplyWorst Gnocchi Ever
Most of the food we ordered was okay at best, but the gnocchi was the absolute worst I have ever had. It tasted like (and had the consistency of) raw potato. I’ve had fresh gnocchi on Thursdays around Italy and know what it should taste like. Even the frozen stuff from Trader Joe’s is better. Service was lacking- still have no idea who our actual waiter was. The younger woman who delivered our drinks was the highlight of the whole place- very pleasant. Everything else was mediocre. Don’t waste your time or money.

This restaurant is simply stunning at night with exquisite lighting all around the interior. The wine bottles around the walls of the restaurant are a lovely touch. The place was very busy when we visited which is always a good sign. I started with beef tartare and my wife the beef carpaccio which was enormous and too big for a starter. Went traditional for main with pasta. Food was very good as was the service. Overall a lovely experience.
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely worth it
What a wonderful evening. The food was delicious, as was the chianti, but the staff and service really made the experience. I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to eat there. Do go if you have the chance (and the money - it isn't cheap).

Cute! Very cute, traditional, intimate Tuscan restaurant. We celebrated birthday of my boyfriend with friends and it was great. The service, the food, the atmosphere. Even the fact that our table was close to the toilet didn’t spoiled it. The space is a bit of the problem. The tables are very close to each other. But I would still recommend it.
Be the first to ReplyA must when in Florence, make sure you make a reservation.
We booked in advance to come after reviewing this place on trip advisor and it was worth it. Incredible service, amazing wine selection and the food was magnificent. The straciatella burata for entree was so delicious and we shared three pastas with the macaroni with mozzarella and red pesto being our favorites. Couldn’t fault anything we ordered. It’s a must when in Florence.

Once again Excellent restaurant with amazing service and food in the heart of Florence. No celebrity sightings on this trip but we'll keep coming back for more.
Be the first to ReplyDon’t go here
There is something to be said for human decency and kindness. I have heard wonderful things about the food here. Celebrity pictures all over the wall, they are very proud of their clientele. They close in an hour and re-open for dinner, and having not had lunch and seeing all the open tables I asked if I could grab a quick bite. Everybody “had to check with their colleagues.” I’m dressed more formal today and was very appreciative of them considering seating me. Bottom line is they had me wait 15 minutes while they still looked for “the colleague” - There are so many amazing places in Florence I would not bother with this one. Staff treats each other horribly from what I could see.
Be the first to ReplyNice but over rated
I had heard other people mentioned this as THE place to eat in Florence. However, after so many fabulous meals all over the city this one just didn’t live up to what I was expecting. We were greeted with complementary wine and hors d’oeuvres. That’s always nice. But the food that we actually ordered wasn’t any better than the food we ate in less expensive places (but this place isn’t very expensive either.) The best thing about this place was the atmosphere but, again, there are many other options in Florence. Even though tipping it isn’t necessary in Italy we did leave a little extra and were a but put off by our waitress, who stood there and counted it in front of us.

The decor is nice and so were the staff. The food was terrible and even our neighbors were terribly disappointed how can one eat sooo bad in Italy? I knew it was wron from the moment they give you to many complimentary things
Be the first to ReplyJust ok
A friend had told me to get a reservation here so we did but I would not go again or suggest it. Nothing was bad. Just not good either. We spent a lot of money and no one finished half their meals. And we were hungry. We ordered the steak, boars bolognese, and carbonara. The one good thing was the buffalo mozzarella appetizer!!!

I had been to this restaurant on a previous trip to Florence and enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant so I made an online reservation a month in advance of my recent trip this June. When we arrived to the restaurant for our reservation, the host told us that they did not have our name on the reservation list. We explained the we made an online reservation and provided the date it was made and the contact information for the reservation and the host was uninterested. He did not apologize for the mistake/inconvenience and did not offer to squeeze us in or give us a later time to come back. We asked if we could make a reservation for another night and were told the restaurant was fully booked for the remainder of the week. The restaurant is charming and I do recall the food being good from previous experience but there are PLENTY of other good, if not better, places to eat in Florence that respect and make accommodations for their customers.
Be the first to ReplyGood restaurant
Good mixed green salad. Delicious pastas and good wine selection. Always a pretty restaurant and service was good. I would recommend it.
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced, crowded and rushed service.
The grotto-like ambiance with fairy lights on the vaulted ceiling was delightful. The food was good, but not outstanding and at €75 per person for an appetizer, one main course and dessert - and no wine - overpriced. The wait staff who hovered at our table while we made our choices made us feel pressured and rushed, rather than well taken care of. I wouldn’t recommend eating here.
Be the first to ReplyOverhyped tourist trap alert, also rude
Very much a tourist trap, unfortunately the first interaction I had was the guy translating English menu and he was very rude. The rest of the wait staff was lovely tho! Food was decent at best, random locally owned places were much better.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing. Rushed service and overpriced.
The restaurant looks lovely with candles and fairy lights, but the tables are very cramped. The food was fine but nothing exceptional, especially considering the hefty price tag. My main issue was with the service which was really stressful. We were given the menu and asked immediately what we wanted. We asked for more time but the waiter came back 30 seconds later and asked again. He then hovered at the table until we chose. They couldn't wait to clear our plates when we finished (before on one course) and we just had the impression that they couldn't wait for us to leave so that they could fill the table again. Don't know what the fuss is about this one - definitely wouldn't recommend.
