This place was recommended for date night and it is certainly pretty but the place is rather busy even on weeknights. The food is good but the menu limited, and watch out for the prices, a glass of coke set me back $6. Unique items are on the menu though and it was nice to try a rib eye on top of rosemary branches. Staff is friendly and proficient. The steak was brought to my table hot which I truly appreciate.

This place has been on my hit list for awhile now, part because of the food & in large part in awe of this business founded by 3 women. This also completes my Clare de Boer Mecca having previously hit Stissing House in the summer, Jupiter in the Fall, & now this. While Stissing House probably remains my favorite for its roaring fireplace vibes, this comes second with its coziness and just flavorful menu that changes daily. We kickstarted with the Sicilian Flat Bread, which was just incredible. Our grp couldn't resist asking for more as it was just this crispy and light concoction that was delightful. The panisse was also unique and a great protein rich alternative to fries . All other dishes in the picture were superb but the raclette cabbage mixture stands out (though I have been racletting for weeks now so maybe I'm just biased ). Definitely order the tarte tatin if available. It did not disappoint. Very easy going service & worth another visit!
Be the first to ReplyWent for my birthday dinner.
Wanted to like it but was unimpressed. Service: attentive when we got there (early before 6), a bit lacking after the place got busy Wine: okay selection. Hugely overpriced. 20 dollars for less than half a glass of house red Food: Panisse is the best dish we had all night. It's like a southern French fries made of chick pea Beef tongue: edible, the horseradish side saved it Ravioli: not bad, flavorful Entre: steak is pretty tough and served cold. It rested too long in the kitchen. Mediocre cookery. Pork chop is so tough you would need a jaw of a dinosaur to break it down. It was served cold, which made the fatty part hard to eat. Every dish is heavily seasoned with rosemary and sage. The herbs are overwhelming but are also the saving graces of these dishes. Side: we got a pumpkin dish. The thing explodes with rosemary dish my taste buds were numb. Dessert: chocolate cake is winning. Ginger ice cream is unpleasant. Will never come back.
Be the first to ReplyJust got out of a sad experience.
Staff at the beginning were lovely and welcoming, got seated inside which was beyond let's say cozy. You will literally touch the people seated next to you since there's no space. We ordered wine$20 a pop but the serving a shared small carafe that's usually associated with one glass vs two at most restaurants. The cracking bread was good but soaked with oil which made it very difficult to eat without soaking your hands. Now let's discuss the real food. The panisse was great and maybe the star of the evening. The ox tongue was flavorless and boring. The ravioli was excellent. Then came a long 35min wait for the mains. I had specifically asked how tender will the pork chops be and was told assuredly that's it's super tender. And after a very very long wait the food arrived and behold not only was it cold it was super tough to eat. I wonder if the food was sitting for a while before they served it ( the place wasn't that full). The other main, the sirloin, was blah and the polenta was fully congealed which is disgusting . Btw during all of this we never saw our waitress again and were never asked how's the food or anything. So our option is to actively say something or just be nice. Damnit I was nice. At the stage we suddenly had a new waitress, no introduction or anything and since it was a birthday dinner, we had to get something since that's the law lol. The desserts were not bad actually we got one of each of the two options. Asked for the bill, with the tip $300 for two people. Would never go back again.
Be the first to ReplyFood is like that of going to a friends home who cooks well.
Prices aren't. Lived this when it was. Vietnamese restaurant or in the 90s when it was French. Now they always have several apps that are around $30 each and three mains at $50. Very good but they don't trust you can cut your steak and cut it for you. Most annoying is that they have turned the corner into the trailer park of soho.
Be the first to ReplyCosy spot for a fine downtown dinner.
The menu at King is not wide with options on any given night, but it seems to change and evolve pretty regularly. I feel like King is a place where you kind of have to turn your menu item selection over to the kitchen a little bit and trust that whatever you pick will be designed deliciously and prepared really well. If you're willing to place that kind of faith in the place you've chosen for dinner, I'd say King will not let you down. Our party of four had mussels, a fennel salad, hanger steak and the pork chop. The mains were cooked to perfection med-rare and slathered in terrific sauces and seasoning. An appetizer of olives were amazing. Definitely put King on the "go there" list.

Last time here was just before that "wonderful" pandemic that pause us for a while .... And nothing changed . Still great food , still great service and still great atmosphere even at the (King st) patio . No reason to elaborate regarding the food cause they change it daily which make this place even more unique and desirable. Highly recommended!!! Definitely A destination!!!!
Be the first to Replyincredibly loud patio above NYC train.
A giant rat died in front of it and nobody did anything abut it. it took 90 minutes to get our food. Nobody came to serve water. very poor service. Food is good but atmosphere terrible ans service really despicable. spent $700 in 6 with 2 kids... Don't recommend!
Be the first to ReplyConsistently good.
Menu changes frequently but the steak options have always been my favorite. Feels a little more formal and a little pricier than you want it to be, but a solid option if you forgot to book something as you can usually get a reservation a day or two beforehand.

New year = more food! King Restaurant in NYC is totally fine dining from the moment you walk in you are greeted with the best scent of the delicious food. The menu is TINY but changed daily and cooked with perfection. You have to know someone to get a reservation. The place is also TINY so you are VERY close to fellow patrons but it is great to be in the company or the other guests! Everyone seems pleasant and seems like they have a story to share. The Sommelier suggested some amazing wines - we got two bottles. One was possibly the best Barolo we have ever had (2018 Castiglione)!! I strongly recommend this experience!!They have both indoor and outdoor dining year round. So the outdoor dining has great heating support so you can fully enjoy while watching the passerbys! The only downside is that the lighting is NOT great for taking pics or if you have vision problems.
Be the first to ReplyI was incredibly excited to celebrate my husbands birthday
I was incredibly excited to celebrate my husbands birthday at King. Other than the delicious food (and it was exceptional), it was a real let down start to finish. My 3 star rating is 100% related to the food and the lovely hostess. Service was terrible. Our server was rude and dismissive. We had to wait for a very long time to get a drink before even ordering our dinner. We were seated outside which, had I been told beforehand, I would have gone elsewhere. It was FREEZING cold and the wool blankets we were handed didn't help. We happened to be seated at the only table that did not have a heater directly above it. I wore my coat the entire dinner. I certainly hope that the owner's new restaurant takes the time to train its servers so that diners don't have to experience what we did last night and to realize that diners expect to be treated professionally and graciously. Especially when paying such prices. The price tag comes with the expectation that both food and service are excellent. Thumbs down on the snotty unprofessional service. Thumbs up on the food. It was delicious. Wine list was also good.
Be the first to ReplyKing is elegant and unassuming all at once.
It feels very "nice," without any of the pretension, and really just let's the food speak for itself. Everything is meticulously prepared, and the amount of care given to the details--from the art and decor, to the ingredients, is impeccable. On the topic of food, the clams are fat and away the best I've ever had. Fresh tasting, perfectly chewy and decadent with butter and vermouth. Perfect. The lombatello was also a standout. Don't skip the chocolate cake either.
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced, mediocre food that made me and my friend sick.
I had to send my grilled fish back to the kitchen because it was soaked in salt. The kitchen's next attempt was burnt on 1 side. Not sure what made us sick but I've had intestinal discomfort for 3 days now with spurts of diarrhea. Place seems in disarray because the menu which is printed daily doesn't accurately describe dishes. Romano beans showed up as garbanzo beans, and lentils showed up as rice.
Be the first to ReplyWe had a lovely meal.
The standouts were the asparagus, the veal tonnato and especially the clafoutis, which required being ordered in advance. We sat at very pleasant outdoor tables. The waitstaff were friendly and helpful and that indefinable quality of atmosphere was wondrous. We had a great time and will go back soon.

Would highly recommend. What a great new restaurant in the village. Moises was fantastic, you can't do better.
Be the first to ReplyVery good food and service.
Quite expensive, so it's not on my regular rotation in the city.
Be the first to ReplyHappy to have visited King during my stay in NYC.
The menu changes every day, and my judgement is only based on one sample size. We had impeccable service, thoughtfully crafted foods, but underwhelmimg dessert. It's like they didn't think the dessert was an important part of the meal or something! We got the chocolate cake, but it was more like brownie and not a special one -- one I could probably bake myself at home. Amd they also gave sour cream in place of whip?? Were they just too lazy to whip up heavy cream? Who does that?? The other dessert menu items all seemed pretty low effort: sorbets and ice creams. Disappointed we wern't able to end our meal on a high note. The main dishes were pretty good. I especially enjoyed pork chop especially. I can't help but notice some of the laziness though. Like reusing the same vegetables between the salad and the pork chop. I don't know if it's because they have the pressure of changing the menu every day or what. King just lacked the creativity and effort that I was looking for. They have "cabins" on Resy, which actually is just a closed off outdoor seating area with some heating. Don't come expecting a secluded, quiet place since it is shared amongst 6 partoes and is located right next to the main street. I would recommend indoor seating, as it is warmer, more private and romantic.

The staff was very knowledgeable about their foods and wines and they were very considerate. Our reservation however wasn't the time we reserved for because it is a very busy place. We probably had to wait around 15 minutes after. The ambiance is great and the staff makes sure you are well looked after throughout the course of your entire meal. The food itself was good however I'm not sure if the price point is fully worth it. While it was delicious, I feel like the price makes it the type of food that you should remember for a while and I personally don't feel that way about it. If you aren't worried about price points definitely give this place a try but if price does matter to you this might just be a fancy dining experience where you treat yourself and go to just have had the experience with people you love.
Be the first to ReplyWe were so excited to try King but overall disappointed.
Started off so positive with their help to extend reservation from 5 to 8 and waive a minimum $ requirement as 50% of our party were non drinking age diners. The seating booked was the cabin, so uncomfortable in the cold temps -the heaters don't provide much heat at all and they are out of blankets so we had to grab them as other tables left. Willing to work through the cold we ordered cocktails, wine and starters...all great and brought to us quickly. What went wrong was our entree food order took over 1.5hrs to arrive and by this time every other table who were seated after us had already come and gone. We were very frustrated by this point, opted to just pay bill for what we'd drank/ate and not wait any longer for entrees abs go somewhere else. The food we did have was great but the discomfort in seating space and extremely long wait for entrees (over 1.5 hrs) makes it a tough one to recommend.

Points for the vibe and the constantly changing menu and inventive dishes. But I found a few items, their signature panisse and the chicory salad, very salty. Very pricey so not sure I would go back again just for the ambiance. The food was good but doesn't justify the price point.

Food here is great though it gets a little repetitive if you look closely enough. Also the descriptions are a bit pretentious as well. I originally liked the concept and wished the owners success. But let's be clear this is not a neighborhood restaurant. My anger came post pandemic whereby I was an early supporter in supporting buying online and wine programs and window selling cheese covered potatoes. It's the recent article written by one of the owners that turned me way off and totally insincere and these lines in particular. "But this is about more than just restaurants' needs. It's about the positive impact they have on their communities. Restaurants anchor neighborhoods, keep eyes on the street, and help drive traffic to nearby businesses. "She failed to mention the more than $1 mm they received in PPP loans is what saved them not stealing the sidewalk and not the noise they create for neighbors. This restaurant and others in neighborhood are not anchors. They just take up sidewalk space that older neighbors can no longer pass in a wheelchair or with a walker. You are full of yourself if you think you are a community anchor charging $25 for two or three scallops and $44 for 4 pieces of steak with a scoop of beans a twig of rosemary? ย Good but wtf?And they also don't encourage other businesses. Local delis close because landlords would prefer to rent at higher rate to a restaurant. So no Annie your restaurant does not bring anything to this neighborhood. I would prefer to have a nearby deli again. Perhaps it helps your partner and her second home but not this neighborhood. Nada.
Be the first to ReplyFood and service were very good.
Waiter was friendly and knowledgeable. Scallops and trout were excellent. Ravioli was very tasty. Ate indoors and was impressed with vaccination check. Second visit in last year. Panisse was good.

I could have "cut-and-pasted" a review from 4 1/2 months ago by "Jary K" ย because with the exception of the weather while waiting outside (60's and pleasant), the experience is identical. However, the kitchen's competence more than made up for the front-of-the-house combination of rudeness and incompetence. ย p.s. the 4th star is due to the restaurant's excellent wine list.
