great food, great experience
Everything was perfect. Amazing food from a chef who was passionate about serving the highest quality food and who enjoyed making people happy. Each course had a story and he explained why he chose that dish or that fish. The same with the sake. It was like watching a cultural history documentary. One of the best meals I've ever had.

This restaurant is going to be my no.1 favorite Japanese restaurant in Singapore.Chef Tomo is the best chef ever.I was excited for my next dish. It is pricey but it worth and acceptable because this restaurant is fancy one.Anyway if anyone see my review please come and taste.
Be the first to ReplyExceptional food and service!
A must-visit whenever you're in SG and craving for an authentic Japanese experience. The service was engaging and flawless - well-curated from both the kitchen and service team. They pay close attention to details and the chef adjusts according to your pace. Servers were very knowledgeable and explained every dish thoroughly (like how the water used for the Chawan Mushi is from Hokkaido). Food's amazing, I still savor every bite. You can taste the freshness and care they give in preparing every dish. Ingredients are well sourced and thought-of. It made me eat all the vegetables on the plate. Sake selection is nice. They have their own sake label that perfectly pairs with the dishes. Kudos to the chefs (Chef Mitsu) and service team (May, Anise and Jackie) for making the experience memorable, and the trip worth it. Can't wait to go back and see Chef Kimura next time.

We usually head to Shinji for our sushi fix, and today we tried Kimura. Chef Kimira is off thursdays and sundays, so we didn’t see him
The set menu is similar to other japanese fine dining establishments. Food quality and service are similar too, except 2 points:
- they charge $5 for extra wasabi. For a meal that is $400+++ per person, the $5 feels desperate
- during the last course, they ask you for extra orders. When you request for chawanmushi from the menu, they said it’s too late. Then why ask at the end?
What a BS restaurant!!!
What a BS restaurant staffed with by snooty people. I walked in looking for a place to have lunch. As usual I was in my casual shorts and tee shirt and had a walking stick as I am handicap. When I entered walking towards the inside, a staff blocked my path and with a glaring look asked me rudely what I wanted. Maybe she thinks I am the new handicap delivery guy. I said I would like a seat for lunch. She gave me this incredulous look like "how dare I asked this question", and she said very loudly that the restaurant is full. She said it loudly as some diners in the restaurant including the Chef looked up at my direction. The Chef also glared at me probably for disturbing him. Then the staff used a hand gesture and showed me out and when I asked whether next time I should book, she just smiled and said again very loudly "safe distancing" and I don't know why she sai that. Then she held the sliding door open and indicated to me that I should leave. Is this what they call a Michelin star restaurant? I will be writing to the Michelin Guide organization and to highlight their arrogance and rudeness to customers. The Chef, and I understood him to be a Japanese, ought to review his operation and manners or return to Japan. He is not allowed to make money from Singapore and yet be rude to Singaporeans. And the staff that was loud and rude nd arrogant is a Filipino and cubby (please note that there is no malice in my description of that staff but I am just trying to identify her as I don't know her name).

Very good food being served. Service is good but could be more engaging to uplift the omakase experience at that price. Restaurant could have gotten carpark tickets for all guests too for convenience. It is these little things that count. The interior is well lit and simple but ambience is limited by its size and location.

Top draw sushi as expected however, what sets this restaurant aside is attention to detail and service. Within minutes of arriving with my wife they noticed I was left handed and adjusted everything accordingly for the meal and also for sushi serving. Is it purist Edo style sushi like Kou.. no it isn’t. However, whilst not cheap it is worth the price and very tasty. Enjoyed it immensely.

Ingredients selection is ok, such as organic eggs and lovely scallops. Taste was not so much on unique palate design like other omakase, this was mainly emphasized on the natural goodness - appreciated the nature. Sake recommended by the staff was also ok.
Main reason for the overall score is because I left with a bad experience, considering the menu I selected.
interaction with Chef during omakase at sushi counter is a noticeable part of the experience.
Unfair treatment to different guests were observed, especially in explaining and during serving the food throughout the course. The experience I received simply wasn’t good. Similar to some other guests, I was curious about the food and sources, for me that’s the most important element to appreciate the meal. Unfortunately I wasn’t given attention while other guests were given a lot more attention. It simply felt strange. They asked the same questions after myself, but the answers Chef gave was so different - 1 word answer VS 3 min explanation. They seem to have ordered the same sets , I could speak both English and Japanese, I wasn’t late nor was there a second seating that day. I honestly wonder why the different treatment, it just wasn’t good.
Service staff was great, and of course, treated everyone the same. The 2 stars were earned by them.
Best omakase ever!
If you are particular about food quality and impeccable service, Sushi Kimura will delight you. So glad I brought my family for dinner here.

fresh ingredients. friendly chef. very relaxed dining experience. enjoyable and hope to return again soon.
Be the first to Reply"Hagi"
Chef Kimura is extremely friendly and he is the person doing the sushi. Prebooked a month ahead and forgot that I ordered the $180 Hagi set for both of us. Think the $120 quick lunch omakase starts at 12pm sharp, i.e., if you do 12.15pm, the set won't be available to you.
While everyone was having "omakase", I thought I was paying more to have bento sushi because of how the food was being dished to me in "box plates". was initially sour about it but Chef Kimura came over and said, "we will serve sushi soon". That got me realised that, Hagi was a $120omakase++ and gradually felt better.
The downside is that the folks don't place the menu in front of you (what's Hagi / what's Raku) and getting a seat here needs to be prebooked about 1month ahead. you may likely forget what you booked. so, do have a re-read before you show up for your reservation.
Overall, yup, it was definitely great food, great chef, great food. probably the largest scallop which I have eaten (cooked over charcoal heat without grill but nor charred). The sushi rice is indeed different from Shinji and the likes of it. and most of their ingredients are organic (eggs, tea, etc).
service crew could be better. Though there's safe distancing between guests, they somehow kept bumping my shoulder almost everytime they top up my cup or clear my plates in front of me. probably time to cut down on gym.
Transported to japan for a lovely treat
Husband reserved this place for my birthday, we’re both fans of Omakase and were willing to splurge for a special occasion. We ordered sake and the $180 & $250 sets. Every dish was meticulously prepared and the Chef & staff explained the dishes well. the interaction wasn’t overwhelming or tense and I particularly liked the ambience because the Chef didn’t “try too hard” to be overly friendly. Just the right amount of conversation and laughter in the room. Could tell the chefs gained satisfaction from seeing their customers’ happy faces when they enjoy every bite. It was a real treat to be able to savour such fresh ingredients and I’m glad to have dined here
