Service was great.
The food was delicious. They were good about making reservations over email and accommodating a last minute reservation for 9. Everyone was great. The recommendations were superb. All the things we ate were really good. I would definitely eat here again and recommend anyone going to Ams to check it out too.
Be the first to Replyvery friendly and super quick.
good quality dishes and the Rendang was the fave. A fun stop full of locals who know the real Indonesian flavors. The service was courteous and quick. The house cocktails were tasty and we made another quick stop for some takeaway a day later. Should be on your Amsterdam list of places to eat.

5/5 Ambiance: Casual-Fine (nice decor) Value: 3/5 Service: 5/5 Critical, but honest review. It's decent Indonesian food. Taste feels catered more towards a westernized palette. I've been all over SE Asia so have had Indonesian food in Indonesia, Singapore, etc. and it's not as authentic as I would hope it to be. Would come back if I'm craving Indonesian food.

I decided to take my family here after I saw some of the yelp reviews for Indonesian food being really good here. They did not disappoint. Not only was the food great, the service was really good. But you definitely need to reserve ahead of time or call because it is really busy but they turn the tables really quickly. Definitely need to reserve if it's for more people.

Wow! This place was incredible! The food was amazing and the atmosphere was fun. We got a bunch of tapas to share. At first we thought it was too much food, but then we finished it quickly and ordered more. I would definitely recommend.

First time having Indonesian food with a friend from Indonesia. The food was delicious, great choices, terrific drinks, and friendly staff. My friend says the food is very authentic and about a close as you can get to dining in Indonesia. If highly recommend dinner here.
Be the first to ReplyThe restaurant is the highlight of our trip in Amsterdam.
We felt the cooking is so flavorful and authentic. They serve Indonesian cuisine. We ordered a food samplers that feed 3-4 but 2 of us finished it all. Check out our before and after photos

Unfortunately I didn't like the food so much, it was very busy and we were excited to taste a different kind of food but it was actually not what we had hoped for. Wish we had tried the Spanish tapas next door!

Great first time experience for introducing friends to Indonesian food. The variety of dishes means you get to taste a lot of different flavors, textures, and aromas classic to this cuisine. The beef rendang and nasi kuning were particular standouts, and the beer on tap was crisp and great cap to a hot day

I came to Amsterdam because I was hungry and I heard the food was the best in Europe. Could you imagine if that was something I actually heard? I didn't hear that. I heard other things - like Italy has good pizza, Berlin has good parties, and the annoying pigeon noises that were around. Do you guys know the pigeon trick? ... I'll take that as a no! Okay, it's pretty neat. You walk up to a big group of pigeons. Like, don't say anything to them, like, you can't anyway because they don't speak English (or Dutch), and then, take your phone and flip it up in the air and the birds go flying!I enjoyed Amsterdam except for the weed, canals and the bicycles, which pretty much makes up of the entire city. I didn't like the bouncers at the bars either, they didn't smile at me and they said 'there's too many guys.' I even tried to take a Ferry ride one evening and there was a bouncer there who said there were 'too many guys.' I agreed!

my friends and i ordered a lot of food to share here, and everything was alright. all of the four stars go to the tofu-tempeh satay with peanut sauce. that dish was so good that it was nearly addictive, and we ordered it a couple more times for the table. whether or not you get anything else at all, if you stop in amsterdam, you MUST try this peanut sauce!!!

This was a fun experience! We did the rijsttafel with meat and fish. I think my big take away is that I'm not a huge fan of Indonesian food (something about peanut sauce...no hate to it, just not my thing), but that doesn't take away from the fact that it was high-quality food. It was enjoyable to try, and I still liked many dishes. However, everyone at my table agreed that the drinks were not good. I got the mango sundae for dessert which was tasty. It's not the most inexpensive meal, but it was an enjoyable experience and solid bang-for-your-buck considering how much food you get.

We were honeymooning in Amsterdam and determined to experience a Rijstafel. After consulting with many review sites, our VRBO host and a guide book, we figured that the best choice was to pay Kantjil and de Tiger a visit. We had a reservation and we're seated promptly near the window where we had a great view of the Spui. We were served pretty promptly and our server did a great job explaining the menu and what all the dishes were in our rijstafel. We ordered the version with meat, though plenty of dishes were veggie based too. We dove in with gusto, enjoying the spices and flavors that are familiar if you've ever had, say, Thai or Singaporean dishes, but also had their own distinct flavor spice profile. My favorite were the satays and curries, but honestly all of it was lovely. Another party was seated nearby and they clearly ordered their own entrรฉes, and each one looked absolutely delicious as well. We rolled out of there full and happy and just delighted to spend our final night in Amsterdam there.

Out of the 4 Indonesian restaurants in the Netherlands I've been to in the recent years this was the worst. The nasi rames dish I had tonight is the perfect illustration of what happens when the kitchen, staff and management no longer cares. Food:Under no circumstances will this restaurant serve you a rijstaffel for one person so I ordered their suggestion: a nasi rames which has most of the same dishes but is served in one single plate. Well guess what happens when all the food is served together? It looks and tastes bad. My fried rice was swimming in some vegetable sauce and no longer dry. Since there was no light at my table I could barely distinguish what I ate and frankly everything tasted almost alike. The meat was overcooked and dry. Have a look at the picture. Does the dish look appetizing to you?Service:The wait staff was friendly but slow and certainly not customer focused. They rather go clean tables or stay inside the restaurant (which seemed empty when I went in there) than being with the customer. I had to wait a rather long time before someone came and took my order. Eventually towards the end of my dinner my waiter remembered and came around to light the candle at my table, the only light source for the table. They couldn't even get the bill right. I pointed out that they missed to account for my drink. Manager:Since I really wanted to try their rijstaffel I asked to talk to the manager to see if they could make an exception to their rule of not serving it for one person. Considering that a rijstaffel costs twice as much as the dish they wanted me to order I thought that would be a win-win situation especially since the restaurant had to close for months during to the pandemic. Absolutely not. Shaeffa, the manager for that evening, told me I don't understand their concept. It's meant to be shared for 2 people. Well this restaurant is the only rijstaffel restaurant I've been to who refuses to serve it to one person. The only way they would serve it is that I would order it for two people. I don't know why she's appointed manager. She obviously has no qualities or eagerness to make sure guests have a good time at the restaurant and make sure that her restaurant generates profit. Will I come back? Under no circumstances Whom do I recommend this to? Shaeffa so she can experience how bad her and her team's service is.

There are certain things that you must see or do when you visit Amsterdam simply because they probably aren't legal in most parts of the world. As for some of the other things... well, let your culinary passport lead the way!You can't leave Amsterdam without indulging in a rijsttafel, a beautiful and flavorful display of Indonesian food designed to let you sample as many dishes as possible. (Think Indonesian tapas.) Come hungry and don't come alone--the "rice table" is meant to be shared! The chicken satay with peanut sauce (satรฉ ajam) was the highlight of the entire rijsttafel, though admittedly, there weren't too many dishes for it to compete against, as most of the dishes in our lunch rijsttafel were sides. Kantjil & de Tijger isn't the most famous Indonesian restaurant in the city, but it's one of the few places that offers the rijsttafel for lunch (up until 4 p.m.!).Plus, it's right across the street from a coffee shop and a stone's throw away from the Red Light District, so I guess you can check three things off your Amsterdam bucket list in one go?
