Junoon New York Reviews from The Last Year
Dinner Party
Booked the cellar private function room for a birthday celebration with Family and friends Junoon worked with me to deliver a customised menu and the service was second to none nothing was too much trouble would highly recommended

A nice restaurant with a pleasant ambiance; the menu had many options for the courses - some dishes were excellent, one zero proof drink stood out - it was called the passion fruit jaljeera. Overall, it was a great experience. We did the 3-course meal but I would personally suggest a 2 course and order dessert as per preference - because the desserts average - we liked the ma's pudding the most!
We went to my parent's 40th-anniversary celebration.
Had to sit outside since we had a newborn with us. The ambiance was great inside but could not have that vibe outside. We ordered a 3-course meal for everyone on the table. Tried almost all the vegetarian appetizers. Kurkuri Bhindi and Baingan fritters stood out for me. I don't remember the exact names. For the main course, we tried Nadru kofta, baingan and kathal bharta, lagoon palak, and yellow dal. Everything was very mild spiced yet so flavorful. Naan was soft. Everything was served with jeera rice. For dessert, we ordered kulfi pops, banana baba, and seasonal sorbets. Everything tasted yummy but if I had to pick one thing then rose kulfi was delicious. The staff was cooperative.
We had the chef tasting menu with wine pairing.
I enjoyed the cuisine a lot because I rarely experienced modern Indian cuisine. They did a good job balancing out traditional Indian food with a modern twist. I also learned so much about the wine pairing with Indian cuisine from the sommelier. Servers were nice in general. Follow more @whatsuprosienyc on Instagram for more food journey.
Very luxurious ambiance and excellence service.
The food was served rather quickly and the servers very were attentive. The portions are smaller but still filling. Highly recommend for a formal dinner or date night.
Great food, but expensive for what they offer.
Low value for money. Word of caution: The bar area was very noisy
Best Indian dining in Manhattan.
The menu is excellent and consistent as I have made dining here as part of my frequent trips to NYC since 2019 beginning at the prior location in 24th. The excellent service matches the ambience and welcoming staff. A must visit if you're traveling to NYC!
The food was wonderful! Vegan and nondairy options
The food was wonderful! Vegan and nondairy options available. The cocktails were very creative and delicious. The service was great. Our server was very attentive to our needs. The Ambience is lovely.
The interior is lovely, the service is fine -- but did
The interior is lovely, the service is fine -- but did experience a bit of push to leave. They came to try to clear dessert plates twice within a 5 minute span. The reason I rate so low is the food is not very good. The Junoon chaat was a bowl of raita. The tandoori chicken....not flavorful, and the chicken just didn't seem particularly high quality. I went with 3 others, and I did try some of their dishes. It just lacks flavor. And the quality of ingredients isn't there for the restaurant to justify the prices. For an Indian restaurant, I was really surprised to not see any options for adding heat level to dishes. It's ironic that they have the no children below 10 in dining area policy bc the flavor profile is fit for children's mild palates. At dinner, you have 3 options: a 5 course (I can't remember the price), 2 course for 89$ and 3 course for 98$. It's not cheap but would be fine had it was an actually memorable meal.
While overpriced, The best Indian food in NYC
While the prices are on the higher side, the food is actually one of the best Indian fares I have had in NYC. In fact, the food was one of the best ones even compared to the good restarants I have dined in India all these years. Loved the ambience. The prices vary by 2x between lunch and dinner so definitely recommend going for lunch (though dinner has a couple of extra items to choose from). I wish the place had an a la carte option too, would make me return a lot more often but overall is a place I would definitely dine at repeatedly.
Decadent and delicious
Daughter’s choice to eat here to celebrate her 30th birthday. We went all out and chose the Chef’s Tasting Menu. What decadence and delight - each course was fantastic. Especially appreciate that we could combine the standard and vegetarian options together, so that all palates were pleased! So delicious! Yes, very expensive, but SO WORTH it. The staff was exceptional as well. Highly recommend.
Nuanced flavors and platings.
Really enjoyed the experience. We appreciated the depth of the tasting menu -- we were presented with so many options and interesting combinations. We each ordered something different and had a chance to try a wide range of complementary flavors.
Delicious dinner!!
The food is delicious, truly some of the best Indian food I have ever had!!! Totally recommended!!! The cocktails are very good and the dessert popsicles are excellent to the palate.

I have been here few times before and last night was a pure disappointment. Giving 2 stars for the ambience and service. The food was bland, tasteless and the biryani chicken smelled funky, especially the meat, below expectations, never again.

I enjoyed the cheese zataar naan! Most of the food was enjoyable minus one dish. I think it's a little too expensive for what you're getting, but overall not a bad experience.

We had an engagement party at Junoon and overall we are very happy with our choice. We were a party of 40+ Drinks were amazing and service was at par. Young was the event co-ordinator who worked with us from the beginning. Canapés and main course was excellent. Server also helped guest us choose the drinks, which was great. Space is limited but we were able to mingle with the guests and then everyone was able to sit down and enjoy buffet style dinner. Only suggestion I have is to serve warm Naan/Roti, just out from the tandoor, which makes a big difference when served with Indian food. In our case naan basket was already on the table before people had food in their plate. Overall we had a great experience.

Food is creative! Tasting menu was delicious, please bring your appetite. I can still taste the yum from last week and will definitely be back! This place has maintained quality over the years.

Our party of four opted for the 2-course prix fixe menu for a special-occasion dinner recently. I've been to the old Junoon years ago before they moved, but not since. Things look a little different now, but high level of service and quality is still there after all this time. They continue to earn that much-coveted Michelin star. The Junoon Chaat appetizer was a standout dish in both presentation and flavor - highly recommend that one. All of our other appetizers and drinks were especially tasty as well - my Mumbai Margarita had a delicious kick that did not disappoint. One thing I miss from the original location in the gorgeous spice room that was downstairs. It had the most vibrant and beautiful assortment of spices, which I believe they mixed and perhaps even dried themselves. It was one of those truly special and memorable things you'd experience at the old location, like a little hidden secret. Still, this was a delicious experience from start to finish. Definitely visit for that special meal if you can.
After watching seasons of Masterchef India, we were keen to
After watching seasons of Masterchef India, we were keen to try out Chef Vikas Khanna's Michelin star winning food and found out that he was associated with the restaurant Junoon in New York. Some friends went there last year and gave us good reviews. So we did not think twice when we were planning a celebration for our 6th anniversary. We planned to go for a 3 course menu and made reservations a week in advance. The appetizers were smashing and so delicious! I had not tried haleem before in my life, but couldn't stop eating even if it was a little bit spicy for me. The chicken was very well cooked and looked so beautiful. Achari Paneer in the main course was ok-ish but the konkani shrimp was super yum. I must give an extra star for the side rice- I couldn't believe how a simple dish could be made so well. It went very well with the shrimp curry. The dessert was definitely the highlight of the meal. I loved the many flavors of the kulfi pop and my husband enjoyed the pistachio ice cream with the banana cake. We were also treated to a small but delightful anniversary cake. Also, we took the junoon special naan with zatar spice to-go and finished it with some leftovers later in the night. The restaurant is spacious and pretty. The service is warm and kind. Also, the restaurant is nicely located near the Madison Square Park where we took a satisfied and blissful walk after lunch. I highly recommend!
The Scarlett Vetter says.
....I have dined at Indian cuisine restaurants all over the world. This is by far in the top 10. Amazing. I came here on a whim, having gotten stuck in Manhattan for an extra night when my client issue was resolved and the need to stay longer was obviated. I googled "best Indian restaurants in NYC," and this place came up as number 1. So, feeling intrepid, I decided to go it on my own and check it out. I am so happy I did. I started with the "Flight to India," a transportive flight of three of Junoon's legacy cocktails. Aromatics, spices, and spirits abounded. All I can say is.....you HAVE to try this. I was transported. Do you know how tastes and smells can send you back in time? I first tried the Junoon in Manhattan. It was simply delicious and complex. With an amazing cherry that had soaked for days in alcohol served on a spear. It reminded me of when I used to steal sips of my mother's Manhattan at age 10 at Aunt Rhoda's house. Full of citrus! A stolen pleasure of my youth. So pungent and prophetic! It portended of the warmth and flavour to come. Second was the Masala Whiskey. Yum. Made with house made Masala syrup and orange bitters---sweet and smoky (real smoke). Just tantilizing. I even enjoyed the soaked orange peel. Last, the Stinging Vesper---Indian Gin with other liquors, including Lillet blanc---clean, light, crisp with a soaked lemon peel. The restaurant offers ala carte options but also two, three, and five course tasting menus. I decided to try the five-course chef tasting menu and since I had choices (see menu in my pictures accompanying this review) I chose Tuna Puchka (tuna, black salt, caviar, cilantro and Jaljeera) followed by Duck& Truffle Kozambu (seared royal trumpet mushrooms, cabbage wrapped mushrooms, winter truffles, poppy seed & tomato sauce), Maacher Hara Gouri (banana leaf steamed tamarind, jaggery marinated red snapper, smoked salmon roe, basmati rice) and Lamb Pasanda (tandoor roasted lamp chop, cranberry, saffron walnut sauce). I sat at the bar and was served by two lovely bartenders, Deepak, and another older gentleman's whose name is escaping me now. Deepak said that the kitchen would allow me to trade out the dessert choices on the fiev course meal to something more of my liking...Kulfi Pops (small stocks of ice dessert in Mango, ube malai, rose petal and saffron-cardamom). Everything was really, really fabulous, with the standouts being the lamb (succulent!) and the Maacher Hara Gouri--just amazing. I also loved the Kulfi Pops. I can't wait for my next trip to NYC!

Amazing food, wide range of flavors across the whole menu - highlights were okra (kurkuri chat), spicy and tender goat (lal mas), and banana baba dessert!!
Hands down the best Indian food I have ever tasted.
Everything was cooked perfectly and the flavors and presentation were completely unique. I had the Junoon Chat and the lamb chops with the spicy naan. Service and ambience also very nice. Very expensive for Indian food but definitely not your everyday Indian restaurant.
Rude Hostess at Front Desk
We went for dinner on Feb 29th 2024. The food was great and the staff who waited on our table and served us were very polite and courteous. But we were in for a rude shock with the behaviour of the lady at the front desk . She made us feel extremely unwelcome and didn’t extend even the basic courtesies both during our entry and exit. She didn’t smile or welcome us during entry and neither was there a goodbye when we left. These are basic manners for people who are hosts and handling front desks especially when she was the only one handling the front desk for the restaurant that night. She had allotted a table close to the kitchen and since there were many other vacant tables at better spots , we requested for a change which she did not pay heed to. But thankfully one of the other waiters accommodated us in a better spot. She outrightly refused to serve saunf to us when we asked on our way out . ( The staff inside had mentioned to us that we could take saunf from the front desk on our way out). She kept rolling her eyes and making faces while taking and returning our jackets. I can’t believe that I came to a restaurant known as a Michelin starred restaurant where the hostess was cold and borderline rude with questionable communication skills . Her behaviour was appalling to say the least. I left feeling hurt and discriminated and left with a sour feeling on what should have been a relaxing and happy dinner enjoying Indian cuisine in New York City . Lesser known restaurants have better hosts than the one we encountered in junoon that evening.
Making my anti-TripAdvisor exception for Junoon
Let's get this out of the way: I don’t post on TripAdvisor anymore because they’ve turned this into a pushy booking platform and ruined my trip portfolios with these changes. But got Junoon, I’m here to make an exception. This is a five star restaurant. The rating is skewed by people who can't or don't want to read. This is NOT an a la carte restaurant. It's very clear on the website and menu that you choose from either a three ($98) or six course meal ($140). You can order EXTRA in addition to your chosen courses, but it's not a pick and choose kind of place. There are also people who can't read the rule, also clearly posted, that children under 10 are not allowed in the dining room. We all came out to have an EXPERIENCE, not listen to your kid cry about wanting chicken fingers. Onto why this restaurant is five stars. It's a beautiful, elegant space. Cadet blue and gold colors, dark wooden tables. Another thing I really appreciate about this dining room is that the tables aren't shoved close together as in many New York restaurants. There is actual space to get in and out of your seat. Service is immaculate. My server, Rahul, was attentive and helpful with menu recommendations. And while Rahul was my primary server, there were several support staff who brought food or refilled water throughout the night. My sparkling water was never less than a third full. The staff bringing the food presented each dish with fanfare, explaining the ingredients, flavors, and garnishes. I chose the three course meal. At Rahul's recommendation, I had the smoked masala ribs, which came under a bell filled with smoke (I told you food was served with fanfare). The ribs, covered in a vindaloo spice rub, accompanied by refreshing chaat masala apple, were spicy, flavorful and tender, coming off the bone easily. My main dish was the murgh lababdar, a tender tandoor grilled chicken served in tomato sauce with fenugreek. Rice and sauces were served as well. This dish would be a crowd pleaser for those not as adventurous with Indian food. While I enjoyed this dish, there is a lot to explore--for next time I have my eye on the lasooni palak (fern, kale, mustard greens, rainbow carrots, garlic, and more) or the asparagus and mushroom ghost chili korma (asparagus, royal trumpet mushroom, saffron cashew ghost chili sauce). The mains section is full of inventive ingredients--lotus root, jackfruit mash, heart of palm. There are also fish, duck, goat, lamb, and lobster selections. The menu also comes with your choice of lentils/breads/accompaniments. I chose the spiced naan, made with gruyere cheese and za'atar. Before desert, the staff brought me a small, white tablet and poured hot water on it. It grew into a white cylinder. I was confused, then delighted, when I realized it was a refreshing hot towel to wipe my hands and face. For desert I had the kulfi pops, small, decorative ice cream pops with flavors of mango, ube-malai, rose petal, and saffron-cardamom. The saffron-cardamom was my favorite! And I also got a special surprise! They just recently opened up for Monday dinner service again. Since I was the first customer in the restaurant on their first Monday service, I got an extra desert. I think this was the ma's rice pudding that's also on the menu. It was a thick, rich puffed rice pudding with candied almonds and carmelized banana. It was not only tasty, but an extra show of appreciation that meant a lot to me. I also tried a couple of their cocktails: the mogra madness (jasmine infused smoke lab vodka, cointreau, pavan, lemon, mandarin and orange blossom ice) and the summer in Shimla (rum bled, cointreau, cardamom, lime, and orgeat syrup). Both were light and refreshing, however, mid-course I abandoned the cocktail menu! Someone came by my table--not sure if he was the general manager or dedicated sommelier or both (or Hemant?)--with a wine recommendation that paired well with Indian food. He gave me a sample, and it was very fragrant, clean, crisp. So after I finished my cocktail, I went with wine. I have been a wine drinker for years, but have fallen toward cocktails over the past couple of years. This made me fall in love with wine again. The romance of it, appreciating each individual aroma, flavor. Thank you for that! People complain about the price and portions. I think this is an American issue (I am American). I think the portions are perfect. Smaller, but when combined into a three course meal with drinks, just right. You're satisfied, but not overly full. And this isn't the type of food you take home and shove in the fridge to microwave later. Some tips: make a reservation. If you reserve on Resy, cancellations or change to party size less than 24 hours ahead brings a charge of 45 dollars. Also, early weekdays beat the crowds: I went at 5:30 on Monday when they first opened, and I was the first one there and the place wasn't crowded when I left. This restaurant, this experience, these people--I appreciate the evening they provided to me so much that I almost take offense to any review less than five stars. Thanks to everyone at Junoon.
Wonderful, can’t wait to come back!
Excellent service and food! Great attention to detail. Nice space, lighting, very comfortable. Look forward to coming back to try the great variety from menu!
Pleasant dining experience.
Junoon has amazing food great atmosphere. We do tend to stay away from dessert but ended up with extra colories because it was part of 3 course meal.
Another great night at Junoon
What a great Indian restaurant, the staff are outstanding, the ambiance is good and the food incredibly tasty. Yung is a terrific hostess and it is her birthday in February, so all together now, Happy Birthday to you, .....etc..
Best Upscale Indian
I waited too long to go to this upscale Indian restaurant. Everything was top notch; food was great as was service, all this in a very handsome space. Highly recommend. Get the kulfi pops for dessert.
Creative excellence
Very creative dishes. Specially with the fried okra and chat appetizer. The burra kebab was delicious, tender and had perfect flavor. The Konkani shrimp had creative mango balls in it, which complimented the flavor of the curry. Finally the assorted kulfi lollipops was a perfect finale to the grand culinary experience.
Not worth going to this restaurant. better spend your money somewhere else for a pleasant experience
Terrible experience, really bad service, got tricked in taking a set menu, while we did ask to eat a la carte. We didn't want to have a dessert and asked for two extra chicken dishes (we were with 4 people) which was refused. We had two bottles of wine and wanted to take the left over wine but that was refused as well. On top of all it is really expensive
Delectable Dining
Wonderfully presented tasting menu with delicious wine pairings made for a spectacular birthday celebration. Each course had a combination of flavors, both subtle and distinctive, that were an adventure to enjoy. The scallops were a highlight.
