Dining at this establishment was a disheartening
Dining at this establishment was a disheartening experience, underscored by a pervasive sense that the dishes were churned out with an almost mechanical indifference. The portions served were startlingly minuscule, leaving one questioning the value proposition of the meal. Compounding the disappointment was the menu's lack of transparency regarding ingredients, which is not only frustrating for those trying to make informed culinary choices but poses a significant risk for individuals with food allergies. This omission reflects a glaring oversight in customer care, underscoring a need for immediate improvement. The overall experience felt impersonal and underwhelming, falling short of the expectations set by the ambiance and price point.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was very good but the service is lacking.
The restaurant offers only 2 seatings-6:30p & 8:30p which results in servers scrambling to accommodate their customers. At our 8:30 seating, we didn't see our sever until after 8:50. Unless service improves will they hold on to their star?

I'm hesitant to write this review because nothing was bad, but I feel like some courses were a miss. The caviar kim was really good; I usually don't eat raw, but the textures were complex and the flavors went together well. The scallop was also good, but nothing too special. My favorite entree was the jook. It was creamy and flavorful. I never expected porridge to be in a Michelin star tasting menu, but I was pleasantly surprised. Then came the black cod which was average. The skin was crispy, but it completely fell off the rest of the fish when you tried to cut it. The fish was fresh, but not very flavored. The duck was the most disappointing. My piece had a large amount of fat compared to my bf's piece. They say its dry aged, but you couldn't really taste that. The chans were confusing because they seemed random and didn't pair too well with the duck. Dessert #1 was good, the cinnamon leaf on top was very pretty. I loved dessert #2, which was a sweet potato mochi donut. I wish they sold this by itself because I would get another. Ordered 2 drinks too, no complaints. Espresso martini cocktail (not sure what it was called) was smooth and creamy. Overall, I'm glad that I was able to try Jua and I do think it was a pleasant dining experience although not my favorite.
Be the first to ReplyOne of, if not the, favorite tasting menus in the city.
Some tasting menus have some misses but it felt like everything here was a hit. It's been a while since I've been so I can't recall the exact dishes we had, but it's been about 2 years and all I can remember is that I have to go back, and so I just need need to do just that and update this.
Be the first to Replyif you're Korean, Jua has a very up scaled homey menu
if you're Korean, Jua has a very up scaled homey menu inspired by a lot of classic korean dishes. I enjoyed every dish but my favorite was definitely the jook and the caviar kimchi. the wine pairing selection is a bit steep for serving pretty cheap wine, though.
Be the first to ReplyMy boyfriend took me to Jua for our anniversary and, aside
My boyfriend took me to Jua for our anniversary and, aside from the menu being incredible from top to bottom, the waitstaff was so attentive to my nut allergy. When introducing each dish, they made sure to let me know what they left out of mine: pine nuts in the Jook and almonds in the Goguma Juak. Great overall experience!
Be the first to ReplyJua is a seven course meal with optional add ons.
The first dish was their famous caviar kim - a bite of tuna, avocado and crispy rice with caviar on top, a wide variety of textures. The second dish was a scallop dish, in a bed of cream sauce and rad dishes on top. The dish was light and creamy. The third dish was called jook, a porridge of various textures. This was one of my favorites and a decently sized portion. The fourth dish was the cod, a small portion of cod atop a radish in a red sweet sauce. The radish was a bit bitter for my liking but overall the dish was still good. The fifth dish was the duck and chan. It featured a small chunk of duck and a plate of little side dishes, from fried lotuses to a jelly sandwich. The details were very intricate. The next two dishes were desserts: The sixth dish was sujeonggwa, an apricot dish in a sweet soup with a delicate leaf pattern on top. The last dish was a sweet potato sticky rice donut paired with a vanilla ice cream. All the dishes were like art, featuring so many different details and textures. I highly recommend. The waiters were also super sweet. The only thing is I would definitely try to come to this reservation on time. We arrived 10 minutes after and got the table closest to the door, but it would have been nice to be seated more inside to better feel the ambiance.
Be the first to ReplyBiggest downs for me from the night were 1.
Having Juk (the porridge) in the middle of the meal as a carb heavy and large portion really killed the progression. I felt like I was enjoying the meal at a reasonable pace, and eating the Juk really slowed me down and made me fuller than I wanted for the rest. The Juk itself was pretty savory and tasty, but I think at the end of the meal would have been more appropriate. 2. The wine pairing is relatively affordable at $95, but the quality of the wines was not very high (I would guess $15-20 retail for most of the bottles), and although the waiters memorize an intro to each wine, they didn't really know more about the wine. Just some basics like the region, maybe some more about the wine making or region. Obviously not to every table, that would be tiring; but I felt that they should've had that information if known. Caviar kim is good, probably the strongest dish out of the set. But to be honest I felt that there was still not enough caviar...perhaps I am too greedy. Scallop felt pretty lazy to me, lots of sauce and a salad of small raw scallop cubes, korean pear and radish slices. The fish was cooked very well and soft, but the gochujang sauce was too salty and honestly ruined the delicacy of the fish. Something with more acidity like citrus and a light butter glaze would've been better for me. Banchans looked cool, but I only liked the gochujang fried potato thing, the meatball, and the beet that you can wrap the duck in (that is a good combo). Palate cleanser was forgettable, but the donut was chewy and very tasty. The ice cream at the end was nice. Sorry to go about the wine, but I was also pretty disappointed about the by the glass selection. I went to celebrate a birthday and there was no champagne btg...only Cremant de Loire...didn't see much quality on the by the glass (yes I know it's meant to be affordable, but the wine list itself has some good choices).
Be the first to ReplyThis place was phenomenal.
Every dish was so unique with a lot of flavor. I genuinely enjoyed everything. One thing that especially blew me away is the sweet potato dessert. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyJua was one of the most enjoyable prix fixe experiences
Jua was one of the most enjoyable prix fixe experiences I've had so far! Each dish was thoughtfully curated for both taste and presentation, with the transition between courses being well balanced. We had both the Uni Kim and the Abalone add ons with two cocktails on top of the 7 course meal. The meal was filling but not overwhelming, with my favorites being the starter kims and the desserts. For those who are not selecting the wine pairing, I would definitely recommend getting a cocktail as a refreshing palette cleanser for between courses. The service was great and there were multiple servers checking up on us throughout the night without being too overbearing. The ambiance was lovely for parties of 2 with a couple of tables available for larger parties. Of the few Michelin starred restaurants that I've dined at, this has been one of my favorites in terms of both food and overall experience!

Be the first to ReplyThis is one of my favorite Michelin-starred restaurants in
This is one of my favorite Michelin-starred restaurants in NYC. Not only their food is impressive, the menu is not as expensive as most of other Michelin starred restaurants in town.I'm a big fan of Korean cuisines, both fine dinings and causal dinings. The Chef of JUA come from Jungsik, which is another restaurant I love. The Chef has done a great job on creating the best food presentations and seasonal menu. I love Caviar Kim and Uni Kim. And every other dish that follows after just gets better and better. The whole tasting experience is fun and the servers give detailed introductions to every dish. It's a rather smaller restaurant but the rustic-chic interior rlly matches the Chef's style and I can't wait to visit again for another friends gathering.
Be the first to ReplyFood 5/5-The food was absolutely mind blowing.
I could not have asked for better. I've never tried a Michelin star restaurant before and this one definitely didn't disappoint. Service 5/5-Loved the service as the the waitress came out to explain the food and ask us for the occasion to why we were going there. Ambiance 5/5-The atmosphere was really nice. I love the lighting, it made all the photos turn out amount. I would definitely come again!
Be the first to Replytasty eatshad to give this place a try after hearing about
tasty eatshad to give this place a try after hearing about it. was lucky enough to snag a reservation for saturday evening. was greeted and seated right away. lovely ambiance. went for the tasting menu with the abalone add-on to the jook. overall it was a delicious meal but I will separate them into the good and the not as good...good: caviar kim was by far my fav - crispy seaweed with avocado topped with a generous portion of caviar. so delicious...could have easily downed a few more. galbi and chan was my second fav. galbi was incredibly tender and perfectly cooked. my fav piece was def the meat next to the bone. the side dishes in the chan were beautifully arranged and provided nice variety. Goguma juak loved the texture of the donut - crispy on the outside and so chewy on the inside, paired well with the ice cream. striped jack was yummy, especially the creamy lemon sauce.not as good: jook did not taste right. it was more like watery rice. should've definitely been cooked longer to have a more creamy consistency. the abalone was a nice touch, but the foie gras was too strong and felt out of place. Nong-eo...although tasty, I didn't find it that interesting. sear fished with a light tomato sauce. that plus the fact that they substituted the fish for branzino. Citrus was like an orange slapping you in the face. orange sauce on orange sorbert with orange pieces in it. didn't like it that much and there was also ice cream with the next dish so felt like overkill. probably would've preferred another savory dish.overall this place was an interesting dining experience. would def recommend it if you want to try something different.
Be the first to ReplyAnother Hand Hospitality home run.
Utilizing various wood fire techniques, Jua serves a 7 course tasting menu that is simple and excellent. On our visit the menu consisted of;Caviar Kim - this was a pseudo maki roll stuffed with bluefin tuna, truffle rice, and caviar on the top. Absolutely loved this first bite.Stripped Jack - delicious stripped jack sashimi style.Jook - a Korean rice porridge with scallops and kimchee. Your also given the option to add truffle, which I did. The porridge was a bit scalding and I wound up burning the roof of my mouth, I feel I didn't get the full flavor of the jook because of this. With that said as the dish cooled off a bit it was very good.Nong-eo - this was branzino and the flavor from the wood grill was very much present. I enjoyed the "smokiness" of the fish and it was cooked perfectly with a nice crispy skin on top while the rest of the fish was tender and juicy.Duck & Chan - my favorite dish. The duck was cooked perfectly and flavorful. The Chan, which was Jua's takes on Korean sides were all great. I especially enjoyed the spicy mustard sauce that paired perfectly with the duck.Citrus - this had a creamsicle taste and was my favorite of the two desserts. Goguma Juak - sweet potato donut with butter cream ice cream, good.Service is what you'd expect at a Michelin star establishment - courteous, attentive, and pro.

I've been to JUA four times since it opened, and it's one of my favorite restaurants in New York. It's one of my favorite restaurants in New York. The reason is simply that the price is not as expensive as otherMichelin so expensive, but at the same time the quality of food provided can be very comfortableIt's very satisfying. The first course of the March menu is still the classic CaviarKim.We added UniKim, but we felt that caviar would be a better match! But I think the caviar would go better with it! Then we had the seasonal raw fish and the classic foie gras porridge. Sea fishThe sea fish was really good, with a crunchy and fragrant skin.Beef with several differentof small dishes is also considered classic, remember like the original had duck and chickenalso.Dessert part of the last time I ate matcha smoothies, this time the orange smoothies are more likeI love it! Super suitable for the beginning of the hot weather, and then the last smalldoughnut at the end is also good. This is really one of the restaurants that I always feel comfortable giving my stomach to every time I eat there.I look forward to visiting again!
Be the first to ReplyKorean food is just the best.
.. Been slowly checking off the Michelin starred Korean restaurants across town and I think JUA may just be my new favorite. The first course truly is the perfect bite. Giant bump of golden Kaluga caviar wrapped in a crunchy seasoned kim (seaweed). I would take this for all seven courses... and reserve the next seating just to do it all over again. Some other favorites include the striped jack in a mesmerizing orange-ginger sauce and the galbi & chan which was cooked to medium rare perfection with complementing banchan that enhanced its flavor. Chef Hoyoung Kim worked at Jungsik for many years before opening up his restaurant, and he utilizes a Korean wood-fired technique to most of his 7-course dinner. Drooling just thinking about this meal again... seriously take me back!
Be the first to ReplyCame here for my birthday.
I usually do not like raw food but everything here was so good! Everything goes together so well. Definitely one of my favorite tasting menus in the city
Be the first to ReplyI'm not usually a big fan of tasting menus because I don't
I'm not usually a big fan of tasting menus because I don't like being hungry after meals, but I'll have to make an exception for Jua. The entire experience is incredible - from the minimalist interior with romantic lighting, the service (they're super attentive and were really friendly!), and of course, the food.Caviar Kim - 5/5 I very rarely give 5's out, but this clearly knocks it out of the park. Wow Wow WOW this was good. Every component of the dish was of incredible quality - even the crunchy seaweed. Striped Jack - 4/5 The sauce was a bit strong for my taste, but the fish was incredibly fresh and had a nice texture to it. Presentation was pretty and ornate. Jook - 4/5 Not what I was expecting from a $135 tasting menu, but a welcome one. The quantity is quite large compared to what I was expecting, and the taste was unexpectedly very flavorful!Nong-Eo - 4/5 Not much to say here, besides that it was very good quality fish. Also appreciated that the skin was nice and crispy, but was not burnt.Duck & Chan - 4/5 The duck was incredibly well cooked, so that it was SO juicy. The crispy skin reminds me of peking duck, but the meat quality is definitely the differentiator. Banchan was a bit out of the ordinary, but good.Desserts - 4/5 Huge fan of the sweet potato donut, which went so well with the ice cream. Not a biggest fan of sorbet, but still enjoyed the citrus.
Be the first to ReplySolo dined here on a Tuesday night for an 8:30pm
Solo dined here on a Tuesday night for an 8:30pm reservation. I really cannot do the food justice - it was all so immaculate and one of my favorite meals ever. Modern minimalist ambiance with dark woods and metal and barely any decor on the walls. Not too dimly lit or anything. The service was so excellent. They checked on me regularly and always refilled my drinks. They explained each course clearly, and they were all friendly. I really appreciated that they sat me at a table. I think they had the opportunity to seat me at the bar (not sure if they actually seat at the bar), but I hate dining at a bar, especially because their bar is just up against the entrance. I liked sitting right in the middle of the restaurant because it felt immersive, even though I was clearly the only solo diner in at least half the restaurant lol. It was 7 courses, and I think my favorite was the striped jack. It was a raw dish, and the mix of flavors was just so bright and smooth and perfectly balanced between the fish and the sauce. My second favorite was probably the 2nd dessert, which was a goguma (a Korean sweet potato donut) with brown butter ice cream. The texture of the goguma was a bit sticky and hard to eat with a fork, but that is absolutely not a complaint. It was so delectable, and I wish I could eat that and the ice cream for the rest of my life.
Be the first to ReplyCame on a Saturday night for a 6pm reservation.
The food was incredible! I loved all the fish dishes and the two dessert courses. The striped jack was heavenly. Among the best food I've ever eaten. They also have a nice cocktail and wine menu. I got the Jeju Spritz and it was very refreshing. I left feeling full and completely satisfied with the meal and the experience. The servers were very welcoming and attentive.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best meals I have ever had.
I've been to over 1,000 restaurants in the city, and this blows it away, especially the price. Every single dish had spectacular flavor, I was blown away. Super friendly staff, very attentive. This could easily be a 2 Michelin star restaurant.

Jua is my favorite restaurant in NYC! Every dish felt like a party in my mouth as opposed to most restaurants where one dish clearly outshines the other.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointed.
Maybe I'm rating it too harshly because I've been to many Michelin-starred restaurants in the world but I would say Jua does not live up to the hype. Service was great and meets the expectations of a 1 Michelin-starred restaurant. And for the price, it was an OK deal for 7 courses, although there were 2 desserts out of the 7 dishes and no amuse bouche. Some of the dishes were better than others. My favorite was the caviar kim followed by the duck served with the various banchan. Didn't enjoy the jook/rice porridge and the last dessert - the very heavy sweet donut. They kept trying to sell us the uni kim (extra $28) so we felt pressured to get one despite neither of us enjoying uni. It definitely was not worth the $28 and the uni tasted bitter. If you're celebrating an anniversary or birthday, all you get is a candle LOL. No petit fours or fruits, nothing. We didn't leave full and I ended up with a stomachache for 2 days so we won't be back.

Came for dinner on Sunday night and it was probably among one of the best meals I have ever had. I honestly can't say much other than to echo the thoughts of other reviewers in that the food was delicious, the space was cozy and comfortable, and the $135 tasting menu is actually very good value. Service was top-tier-- friendly yet professional and so attentive (refilling waters, removing plates at the right time, perfectly spacing out the courses). - Caviar Kim: so freaking yummy, the caviar and crispy seaweed are just too good.- Uni Kim (add on): so fresh and delicious. Instant serotonin for me.- Striped Jack: as with all of the other fish on this menu, SO FRESH. They describe the sauce as an "orange ginger" sauce, but that sells it so short. This sauce is smokey, complex in flavor, and pairs so wonderfully with the fish. I couldn't help but drink it all up with the spoon...- Jook: oh my goodness. Probably my favorite thing, this was so comforting to eat. Creamy and flavorful, the rice was a great texture and the foie gras + scallops elevated the flavor and added that "luxurious" touch to this classic Korean dish.- Nong-eo: so good, not a single trace of unpleasant "fishy" flavor. This branzino was prepared fairly simply, but the flavors still come together so well and the skin was wonderfully crispy.- Duck & Chan: wow. The duck was so tender and the skin was perfectly charred and fatty. The banchan are so cute and each item is packed with flavor to create a little bite-sized party in your mouth.- Citrus: simple but refreshing dessert! The meringue is so light and great with the sorbet.- Goguma Juak: exceptional texture. Crisp on the outside, chewy on the inside. Delicious sweet potato flavor. Served slightly warm and is a match made in heaven with the cold brown butter ice cream.I loved this meal so. much. Every single dish hit, which I don't know that I can say about any other tasting menu I've tried! I would come back here in a heartbeat for my next special occasion.
