Jin Sho Palo Alto Reviews from The Last Year

...forgot to state just how pretentious and insulting it is to customers to only serve 1 piece of nigiri per order (and a small one at that). Can't see myself ever returning on this establishment.
Service and food quality were good, but nigiri portions
Service and food quality were good, but nigiri portions were too small - airport sushi size. Cost is far too high to justify and there are several other choices (e.g. a little further north on El Camino) that match or exceed quality at a far better price. If I want to pay these prices I would go to Fuki sushi instead.

(4.5 stars) Google says this place is $50-100, but I think it's sliiightly less than the others listed in this price range. A+ service, staff was a good amount of attentive. Came here twice, enjoyed this place both times. The place is on the smaller side with more compact tables. 4.5/5 stars because the food is solid, but not mindblowing. Good for value.
This was a huge waste of money.
Absolutely zero ambiance. Really expensive. Terrible service. I was planning on spending some quality time with my son, who I rarely see these days as he's an on-the go teenager. He loves sushi. We live in the neighborhood. The California Avenue dining experience is all I read about. I shared it was my first time dining there. He did not register this information. The waiter was rude if not all together, strange. Do not dine here. Espresso Sushi Bar is what it should be called, where you swallow standing up. It was really insulting to go in only to feel like you're being encouraged to leave before sitting down. It was like being on a conveyer belt of "get the heck out of here" if you don't spend more money, attitude. He did not explain dishes when asked and acted like it was a bother when I wanted a little more time to decide on a fish to order. Everything was throw away. Chop sticks, paper napkins, plastic bottles for drinks, plastic drinking glasses. Did not even pour our mineral water. Bad service and ambiance. When paying the bill he hovered while I was pulling out my card and then plunked the ipad on the table, looking to see how much I was going to tip. They want robots not customers. Robots who stuff themselves on dishes and spend $500 for two persons then leave in ten minutes. I felt like stiffing him a tip. But having been a food server in college.

I truly enjoyed my dinner here- the fish was so fresh, the omakase was AMAZING, and the rainbow roll was literally so great. I never imagined a rainbow roll could be that great. Such a nice, cozy, unpretentious restaurant. I'm going to come back often!

I always order the chirashi bowl from here and it is SO GOOD! The fish is always amazingly fresh and everything is so high quality. The service is good, they are always super fast with my order. The environment is clean and the chefs are always super nice!
I forgot how good this is.
Great quality sushi. Yummy soup and tofu. Very friendly and extremely attentive server. Happy vibes inside with singing happy birthday to a couple of tables near us. Good for family dinners. Everyone in my group was satisfied and found the food very good. We will be back!

Bottom line- delicious food and great service at reasonable (for sushi in Palo Alto) prices. Food: had the sashimi regular which was really great- high quality fresh fish and high quality fresh wasabi. Also had the spider and Shawn rolls both of which were tasty. My kids ate all the salmon sashimi in about 2 minutes so I can't attest to how good it was but they seemed to love it. Nabeyaki udon was tasty and soft shell crab salad was also good. Service: very attentive, kind, refilled out tea and checked in on us multiple times. Admittedly, I'm a bit of a restaurant snob and typically we try to go to 4+ star restaurants, we came here because our Japanese friends said it is one of their favorites. We eat at lots of the great Japanese restaurants around the peninsula and thought the quality of the food and service were certainly up there - definitely better than the current overall rating of 3.5 stars on yelp. Lastly, the staff all seemed to speak Japanese which tends to be a good sign.

Service is definitely on the slower side here but I think because they are short staffed. Anyways, you get like a sheet to mark what you want to order, the omakase is 8 pieces and the portion size is pretty generous. Each piece was delicious and everything is ready made to eat, you don't need to add more soy sauce or wasabi. Also the rolls that we ordered were dragon, salmon avocado and an unagi roll, they were already soy sauced so you don't need to add anymore. Overall, I would come here again for the food! The total was around ~$130 with tip for 2 people which isn't bad at all!
I saw outdoor with my friend.
Sushi quality was far below expectations. Service was fine, very slow and not really attentive. I'll not return.
The server was down but managed to dine here.
The service was great! Liked the cozy ambiance. The food is fresh and has a good selection. I love the fact they have natto and the chicken karage is so succulent and huge!

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it? |
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.

Give the best answerConcierge change fulfillment time
I posted a request for a reservation this Thursday between 6:30 and 8 pm and initially the potential seller said it would be fulfilled by today. Now they changed it that they will only fulfill it by 5pm that same day. Basically I would have an hour and a half to get to the restaurant. Is this allowed?

This app is a catfish and overrun by people programming “bots” and algorithms. It makes it frustrating for someone not well versed in this to have any movement. I thought this would be a fun side hustle, but unfortunately it’s become like any other “side hustle”. Don’t waste your time with this crap. Not a question, just a suggestion. Also don’t pay these fake “gurus” hundreds of dollars to teach you. Might as well sign up for a software class. 😕
