We had reservations for Beat the Bomb down the street, and decided to eat here beforehand. This place doesn't allow spilt checks and also automatically applies 20% tip to parties of 6 or more and also has a 5% operating fee added to all bills. So if going in a big group just plan to have one person pay and figure out what works best for your group afterwards. The service was pretty quick and attentive. We ordered wings for the table and while I don't remember everyone's exact dish there were no complaints on the branzino, burgers, pizza and ribs. It has a very relaxed atmosphere, and definitely a great place to go with friends to catch up.

The atmosphere was great, and we had a great view of the city. The food was terrific. We had pulled pork and chicken along with the macaroni, which was out of this world. The staff was friendly and took good care of a large group.

Ivy City Smokehouse has become a staple in Ivy City for good reason. Not only do they serve up fantastic seafood, but they also create solid drinks that hit the spot every time. One thing I particularly enjoy is catching sports on the TV while I indulge in their delicious offerings. Whether it's a game day gathering or a casual night out, Ivy City Smokehouse delivers on all fronts. It's definitely a go-to spot for seafood lovers and sports enthusiasts alike. The service is solid as well.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent experience having dinner here.
Food was great and so was the atmosphere. Being from out of town, it was a bit pricey, but worth it.

You gotta try the smoked fish board - have had it about 5 times now and it never disappoints. It's the perfect Sunday brunch food and I can't say enough good things about it; even the bagel is excellent. Easy parking, too. I wish I were eating it right now.

A friend and I decided to stop in and we're pleasantly surprised by the lounge, ambience and delicious bites. I will say, I wish I knew they had an elevator as all of those steps took my breath away... But again the food was delicious. We sat at the bar and our service was spectacular. Our bartender made sure that we were well taken care of Decided to get the Rockefeller oysters and a wedge salad with salmon. The oysters came with that delicious buttery bread, and we definitely ordered more of that bread. #Carbs. The salad was definitely fresh and stellar. The salmon was extra and not necessarily needed but it did add extra protein and flavor to the lettuce. I love the fresh chunky blue cheese bit as well. The drinks could be a little stronger, however, they are delicious. But if you like to taste your alcohol, I definitely recommend just drinking straight. I will definitely be returning in the summertime to check out the outdoor patio vibes . and of course I'll be getting on the elevator to get up there. Lol.
Be the first to ReplyCustomer service was excellent.
The ambiance put you in the place of seafood warehouse type of vibe. The calamari served as a appetizer not pictured is so tasteful. Now to the main course, no exaggeration the Bronzino was exquisite, and nicely roasted - the garlic butter sauce nicely added to it as well. The roasted Brussel sprouts and rice paired perfectly. I will be returning and requesting the same dish.

Decided to visit on a Saturday evening and it was a packed house with the Ravens game showing! The multiple screens made it easy to watch the game at every seat at the table. Also, even with it being it packed the staff was very attentive and friendly. We all decided to try the restaurant week menu. I was surprised that a majority of there options were seafood or had seafood in it. But honestly I am happy they did because the Branzino was the best dish we had. Everything else was a bit disappointing. We started with salads. The mixed green salad standard and the dressing had a great flavor but the amount of dressing was a little too much for my liking. It would have been more enjoyable if the dressing was on the side and I could manage the salad to dressing ratio. For our entrees we tried the ribs, smash burger and Branzino. The ribs were the most disappointing because I was expecting exceptional ribs from a smokehouse but these weren't my favorite. They weren't flavorful and while the bbq sauce helped, it was vinegar based and unfortunately the only bbq sauce they offer. The smash burger was okay. The best part was the bacon. The size of the patties along with the other things in the sandwich made it more of a slide burger than smash burger. Saving the best for last, we have the Branzino. I was most surprised by how good the Branzino was prepared because we ordered it reluctantly. The flavors were throughout and the fish was light and juicy. It a was served with rice and vegetables. Unfortunately, the rice was very buttery and the vegetables were too salty. I normally would have cared but the Branzino made up for the rest of the dish. We ended the experience with their cheesecake. It was really delicious! Overall, it was an okay experience.

It's been a while and Ivy City again, did not disappoint. This time we had mussels! Sooooo good. Blackened salmon was delish. Another win for Ivy City. Oh and the bartender made the perfect dirty martini.

Food: I had the smoked spare ribs and honestly they were delicious. I dipped them into the barbecue sauce and it made a world of difference. Of note I did have them take the ribs back to cut them because it came out whole. The French fries were thin cut and absolutely delicious. Do not get the wings. Server: We had Karen and she was the absolute greatest. Any need we had whether big or small she filled with a smile on her face. She was very pleasant. Ambiance: Where the one point off comes from. If you know the area you know why, however the real reason was the mix of go-go music you have to listen to from one room and different music from another building. It made it super loud. Obviously not their fault but takes from the vibe.

I had every intention of taking a picture BEFORE I ate this food but it was so good that I just forgot until the plate was almost finished. Surprisingly the veggies were really flavorful. The rice was fragrant and soft and the shrimps had a good grill taste to it. And they took the tails off! Nobody does that. There was a go go concert going on next door so the music inside was competing with that but the music in the main room was great! The fries also seem to be a hit so anything with fries as a side may be a good option. And the service. It was great! From security to the waitress, they were more than accommodating. I'd come back for sure!
Be the first to ReplyIvy City Smokehouse is beside City Winery.
There is a small market downstairs that sells fresh seafood. The restaurant is upstairs (yay they have an elevator). The outside patio is nice. There is an event room with a stage. I bet this place is packed when the weather is warm. The closest metro is about 11/2 miles away. There is a bus stop about three blocks away. Free parking is available across the street, on the same block. That fills up quickly after 4:30pm. Pay attention to parking signs. One side of the street has paid parking spots. Parking enforcement is diligent. The parking garage is half a block away. The menu includes seafood and meat dishes. They also have pizza and lots of sides. The side portions are giant. The tip was already included on my receipt. In the evening, be aware of your surroundings.

Anyone who doesn't like their food should go eat at Red Lobster, Olive Garden, or Denny's. Everything is made fresh from scratch including all of their sauces and dressings. If they make a mistake they make it up to you and their staff are the best. Nice kids mostly bilingual and hard working.

I have been coming to Ivy City Smokehouse at least once a week as long as I've lived in Ivy City. The food is great, I've tried almost everything in the menu and everything has been fantastic. Great bartenders, (especially Julissa and E), excellent food, lively vibe even on weeknights. If you're considering coming here, the decision has to be yes.

This was almost a 1 star review if it wasn't for the bartenders. They were attentive. The crab cake sandwich was good, and the drinks were great. I missed this place and wanted that feeling of nostalgia I had when I used to come here with my family to eat ribs and seafood Came on a Thursday night, December 15th. (Server and hosts seemed too occupied with their personal convo to seat me or even acknowledge me, so I sat myself). However, after I tried to sit myself, I was told I couldn't sit a table (which was the only table I could get a view of the game from) because the table was too big. None of the tables were occupied, and there was plenty of space for a big party if someone came after. But I went ahead and sat at the lonely table in front of a TV that did not have NFL on it. (With hopes that I can get someone to change the channel) I waited 30 minutes, wanting to flag the server down, but she had an attitude (same server who told me to sit at the isolated table). No one came. Finally, I went to the bar and was told the kitchen was closed. I was almost upset but starving, so i waited there to look on Yelp for more good food in the area. While doing that, I saw the bartender talk to the kitchen and came back to tell they were going to make one more dish for me. It came out fast, and the drinks were great while I waited. I just might come back.

This place is overrated but not terrible. The brownie was good though.
Be the first to ReplyI've been visiting Ivy City Smokehouse semi-regularly
I've been visiting Ivy City Smokehouse semi-regularly almost since they first opened. The hospitality, kindness, venue and food all make this a very unique spot in DC. The people and the quality here are the two biggest draws. On this particular visit (the weekend of Dec 18), I took four first-timers with me and all loved it. We had the "Smokehouse Fish Board" with the different kinds of smoked, candied and peppered salmon, smoked trout and whitefish salad--a great start to the meal. Then, different members of our party ordered the shrimp po'boy, a crispy fish sandwich, a shrimp salad, a couple of cups of the daily soup (a shrimp bisque) and a couple of other items I'm forgetting. We also shared an order of steamed clams. One among us even took Pete up on his suggestion to try a "steak and cheese" sandwich and loved it. All of this, as always in my experience, was prepared with skill and very fresh ingredients. Everyone left happy and impressed; no surprise to me. The folks behind this spot really know seafood and have been in the business for a long time.Aside from the great menu, which does stand apart from most any other spot in the area, the people here have always just been so welcoming and kind. I'm not based in Ivy City but know that the team here also works hard to be caring and engaged members of the local community. Whenever I visit Ivy City, I'm always reminded that I need to visit more often. It's that kind of spot. Hopefully by now, it isn't too "undiscovered" anymore given all of the years in business. But, if this review motivates anyone to give it a try for the first time, well, you won't be disappointed. Mark me as a huge fan of what this team does and, even more importantly, how they do it.
Be the first to ReplyIf I could give this place 0 stars I would.
It was my family's first time dining there. There only reason we went was we had family visiting from out of town and their hotel was about 10 minutes away. The food was mediocre yet the prices were insanely high. On top of that, my husband ordered fish n chips and they must've forgot about his order because it didn't come out for about 45 minutes. All the mean while our waitress was yapping at the bar instead of coming over to check on us or let us know his food was on the way. She could've at least offered to bring out a complimentary appetizer for the long wait. We had to ask 2 other waitresses about when his order was coming. We finally ask the hostess and she ran over to tell our waitress who was still at the bar to get his food. On top of that crappy service, we get a 20% gratuity fee tacked on!! WHAT?!? As if the quality of food and service we received warranted that. Their website clearly states that they do not split checks and 20% gratuity will only be added for parties of 6 people or more. We had 3 adults and 2 infants (who don't even have teeth therefore weren't eating) with us. Last time I checked 3 adults and 2 babies = a party of 5 NOT a party of 6... additionally, only 3 out of the 5 were eating food...Avoid this place at all cost because there are WAY better restaurants out there with exceptional service. And if you are desperate enough and end up eating dining... ***BE SURE TO THROUGHLY REVIEW YOUR CHECK BEFORE YOU PAY!!!***The only good thing about this place was the kind hostess. I wish I would've caught her name to give her a shoutout.

Ordered delivery while at Other Half Brewing, about a block away. Thought they bring it over, but after placing order through their website I got a door dash confirmation. 20 minutes past when food was supposed to arrive I got a call from a door dash driver who was 15 minutes away at the wrong address. I called the smoke house thinking they could correct the mistake but the put me on hold for five minutes and then the line dropped. The door dash driver finally arrived. The food was cold and soggy. Maybe eating there is okay, but I wouldn't try to get delivery.

I gave this place stars because it had a good vibe and the drinks were really excellent! Service was great! Our waiter was very attentive and funny, who wouldn't enjoy that. But, the food...that's another story! I ordered the fried shrimp Po'boy and I can tell you that the seafood here is not fresh, this sandwich was horrible!!!! Other members of my party complained about the lack of flavor and freshness in their shrimp meals as well. But, other members had the brisket and they raved about it. Maybe I'll give that a try on my next visit. Overall the music was excellent! The service was excellent! The drinks were excellent! My food, not so much! I think I enjoyed the shoe string fries the most and struggled to eat the sandwich. I literally poured sauces on it and still nothing! That overpowering freezer taste made the sandwich lack freshness and flavor. Again, I would indeed visit again to try the amazing brisket my friends raved about and to enjoy more drinks and music. I will however, be staying away from the seafood.

Good option for those craving some meat or seafood in the hip Ivy City neighborhood. I came here for a Friday night dinner with a large group, and they managed our orders well. The ambiance is like a high end sports bar, with a large bar in the back and large TVs. The Manhattan I ordered was strong and tasty. The food selection isn't too expansive, especially if you are vegetarian, like my wife who ordered a "side" of mac 'n cheese. Still, we enjoyed all our dishes. I started with calamari, which was accompanied by a very interesting habanero aioli. It was served crispy and contrasted well with the pliant texture of the squid inside. For the main I got the steak and fries. The steak came medium rare, just as I requested, adorned with cremini mushrooms for an added kick of umami. My wife's mac n' cheese really put an emphasis on the cheese - it felt like the noodles were swimming in a gooey soup.Dinging this place a star for inattentive service, as we had to ask for our waiter several times to place our order. I understand they were likely understaffed for a busy Friday night so not blaming the waiter personally.
Be the first to ReplyReally delicious.
.. we'll be coming back for sure.If you're lucky there's plenty of parking out front. If not you have the neighborhood or valet. I had the Smoked Brisket sandwich and a beer. ย The meat was tender and flavorful, the bun fresh and tasty, and the pickles were tangy and I could have done with a few more. They served a thin, vinegar-based sauce and it went well with my sandwich and tub of delicious fried. And here's a tip, two tips actually... If you order the Smoked Spare Rib (you should, (that's tip #1) have the kitchen fully separate each rib (that's tip #2). My wife tried several knives, asking for a sharper one each time and it was still a struggle separating the ribs and impossible for us to get the final two apart. It is the first time I've run into pork that obstinate after it was no longer alive and I'm going to remember that second tip for whenever and wherever I order ribs.Beyond the food, the space was... spacious. It will be even better when they open the wall that leads to their open patio, weather permitting. And finally but not leastly, the service was prompt and courteous. This Ivy City thing may eventually catch on. Regardless, it's worth the trip just to eat at Ivy City Smokehouse.
Be the first to ReplyThe staff was very friendly.
The restrooms were very clean. Due to the ongoing pandemic you will need to present your vaccination card and identification. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was very nice. Patrons have the option of dining indoors or out on the patio. They have an elevator if you don't want to pump up the steps and they have a seafood market next door!
