To be honest I've wanted to try Ina Mae's for a while and finally made it. The food was surprisingly delicious for it's simplicity. I had hush puppies, green beans, Mac and cheese, the catfish and beignets to go. I split the sides with a friend who also ordered the chicken wings. The catfish was sublime the coating was crunchy and well seasoned while the pieces of filet were still tender and juicy. The hush puppies with the pimento butter were tasty and the green beans were good but could have benefitted from more spicy heat like I was expecting. We both loved the eclectic vibe of the spot and the diversity of their patrons, which is great as we wanted to support a Black owned business. The decor had us talking and our waitress was patient as we made our choices. I also ordered a Sazerac, one of my all time favorite cocktails. Ina Mae's made the strongest I have ever had even in comparison to the many I downed on my travels to New Orleans. Overall, Ina Mae's is a rare gem in the midst of so many other restaurants in the area. Parking sucks but I will definitely return!

Slushy hurricane is the best, would only like cauliflower fried slight softer, but enjoyed the restaurant. Will return

Nothing (food, service, ambiance) was bad but nothing was terribly good or great. If it's in your neighborhood and it's walking distance it's fine place to go to but definitely not worth any type of trip and the parking is horrendous. I got the fried oysters and they were decent. Everything was way overpriced. It was more of a dive (and I love a dive) trying to masquerade as a restaurant.

We had a group of 8 and arrived 30 min after they opened for the day. They were already out of oysters and some other items on the menu. The waitress was not knowledgeable and had to run somewhere to "double check" in literally everything. The food was mediocre. Shrimp and grits were too oily, shrimp had chlorine aftertaste. Pam lakes were tasting like fried oil and dough, no flavor! The establishment makes it hard to come as a group, they do not split checks based on your meal, which is very odd in 2023. Will not go back.

Located a few blocks from North Avenue, this festive restaurant was decorated for Fat Tuesday. Brian Jupiter was serving meals to customers. The live band added to the festivities. The gumbo was out but if you waited a new batch was available. The beignets were so fluffy and tasty.
Be the first to ReplyAtmosphere was festive.
Staff was friendly. Drinks were great. However, food was WAY too salty. I love spice but it was way overdone.

Gave 1 star because I will allow that for the drinks and atmosphere.Food....WHO PUTS POTATO SALAD AT THE BOTTOM OF GUMBO??? They advertise Catfish BUT WHAT YOU ACTUALLY GET IS CATFISH NUGGETS.....Cheapest of the cheapest fish EVER!We were ripped off because we had a large party and was made to pay $55 per person/ family style. WHAT A JOKE!! Shared appetizer, 7 or 8 catfish nuggets, fries, 4 ounce each of COLD GREENS AND MASHED POTATOES!!! We repeatedly had to ask WHERE'S THE GUMBO, which was included in this "incredible spread"Well, we finally received this lukewarm mess that had potato salad at the bottom!!! NOT FIT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION!!!!OVERPRICE!!!!HORRIBLE!!!!The owner needs to close the doors, take a trip to New Orleans to get a taste of authenticity!!!!!THEN START OVER!!!!!

Ina Mae was a great time! I came here last weekend for a friends birthday brunch, and let me tell you, the food, drinks, ambiance and service were top notch! The cuisine is southern and oh so tasty! Think biscuits, Mac and cheese, fried chicken, greens, and more! The drink selection is vast and I tried a frozen cocktail that was superb. The frozen daiquiri was on point. The decor in the restaurant makes you feel as if you are on vacation. They were ready for Mardi Gras!I am looking forward to my next visit here!!

There is no better place to get ready for Mardi Gras in Chicago. We drank, we ate, we celebrated... Ina Mae gets it right! Everything was wonderful, authentic, and worth the visit. We'll definitely be back. Happy Mardi Gras
Be the first to ReplyOrdered delivery and it never came.
When I called to see what happened, they never answered and the calls always went to a full voicemail.
Be the first to ReplyI wanted to love this place.
Ordered the deviled eggs appetizer. The interior is dark, the menu font is bad. I questioned why we only received three deviled eggs (one and a half total eggs) when the menu said five pieces? The waitress assured me the menu said three. Upon plastering the menu to my eyes, I could see it did say three pieces. I told her I would not have ordered one and a half eggs for $9 and that the menu was too hard to read. The waitress said 'yes, we have a lot of people complain about this, let me see what I can do for you.' So, they know it's a reoccurring complaint and yet, they continue to keep it on the menu this way. She did not do anything about it. I ordered red fish for $30. The fish was good. But it only came with French fries. They would not allow substitutions. I'm not a big fan of French fries and had to ala carte veggies with my fish. Then weirdly, they brought my side dish out in a plastic to-go container. My dinner companions were not impressed by the po'boy sandwiches that are so loved in New Orleans. They said they felt like the Midwest version of a po'boy. The martini was weak, the tables were on top of each other in spite of Chicago still being in high COVID transmission and although I loved the live music, but it was over powering any kind of conversation.Lastly, it's an New Orleans inspired restaurant. It was disappointing that grits do not appear on the dinner menu. Grits are apparently only available at brunch. I had hoped for a shrimp and grits New Orleans dinner. Instead I got French fries.
Be the first to ReplyMy first visit to this restaurant was a bad experience.
This is not New Orleans or Louisiana inspired. Fried seafood is not the marquee of Louisiana, only another way to cook a protein. No items were signature to Louisiana cooking. This Wednesday was their Booze and Bingo night with an all you can eat fried chicken special for $25. This special is not shareable. I simply ordered a 3pc chicken meal which does not come with a side item...only a biscuit which was over baked and tough to eat. The worst aspect of this dine in was that my chicken breast was undercooked. My server was notified and removed that item to have it prepared again. While waiting I proceeded to try another piece which was also undercooked. The server returned with the newly prepared chicken breast which I then discovered was also undercooked. I was provided with multiple chicken pieces continuously undercooked. This is not acceptable. Disease and sickness could have been the result had i eaten my meal. I hope that this is not the result for other customers who may have been unaware of the undercooked chicken.

Haven't been here in a while but was in town and decided to visit because it was so good during previous experiences. The shrimp and grits were still tasty, the bartender messed up my drink order 3x until it was right, the fried chicken with the pancakes came out burnt and without ANY seasoning. The fried chicken used to be one of my favorite items on the menu but clearly they have changed the recipe. They also charged $1 for extra syrup on the pancakes which the waitress never stated that there was a charge. Overall, it was an ok experience, the waitress seemed new and I probably would not drive back to Wicker Park to patronize this establishment

On vacation and saw this restaurant on a tv show about hot spots in Chicago. The atmosphere was great and seating like a tavern. We tried the gumbo, crab and cheese dip, and hush puppies as appetizers. Crab dip and hush puppies great. Soup a little salty. We had blackened shrimp, crawfish po'boy, and fried chicken. The fried chicken was the best and the biscuit was yummy. The waitress Maeve really hustled as did all the servers, but the kitchen was slower. Beignets to end the meal, but there isn't any coffee to go with them. Enjoyed myself.
Be the first to ReplyCorner spot located in the busy Wicker Park neighborhood,
Corner spot located in the busy Wicker Park neighborhood, surrounded by entertainment, shopping and dining. Immediately, we noticed the outdoor dining with lighting hanging from the covered awnings. When we entered, were greeted by the hostess and noticed how crowded the place was. It's quite small, so reservations are highly suggested, if not required. Pros: Loved the decor and ambiance. String lighting trimmed the ceilings indoor and outside, giving the venue a nostalgic effect. Drinks were professionally made, hence the tavern. Food options were above average for just about any tavern I've been too. Great spot for dates, socializing with friends, or just grabbing a quick bite and a drink. Beignets was good. We'd had better in Nashville a few months before but they were good. Cons: Parking can be a bit of an issue, especially on a Friday night. We were lucky to find a spot very close. It was very crowded for such a small space and equally as noisy. So much so, that our waitress got half our order wrong. Available seating at the bar and tables along the windows but there was also tables down the center. More of a hightop table, very small but allowed for more potential dinner service. We were seated at one of the center tables. During the whole time, I felt like someone was going to bump into me. People waiting on tables, made use of available seating at the bar and some would stand, in the narrow isle as they wanted. The congestion was bordering annoyance. We ordered two entrees and two sides. The table wasn't quite big enough to accommodate these plates, along with serving plates. My wife even asked the waitress to take plates away. The crab Mac and cheese was made with spaghetti noodles, which was very confusing because our order was wrong, so we wasn't quite sure what it was. Ultimately, my wife and I agreed to come back, possibly on a less busy day and give it another try.

This place is such a pleasant surprise! How have I lived in wicker park for years and never been to this lively bustling place? Inna Mae has gotten a Bib Gourmand distinction from Michelin as well. Rightfully so because the food is very good. Come here if you're looking for southern comfort food.We got the fried chicken tenders with voodoo drizzle- delicious! Surf and turf oysters were good as well.Lastly I got the crab mac! The mac and cheese was spaghetti which was a little strange but it was delicious nonetheless. The menu is huge - but you should definitely try the fried chicken tenders!

We arrived at 9:55pm this past Saturday and were seated outside. A young man gave us menus and water then after waiting 15min I had to stop a young lady wiping down tables to ask if anyone was coming back for our order. She sent the young man who gave us the water back who said sno-balls was not being served at the moment when I asked then when I started to order dinner he said "I'm sorry the kitchen is closed". I just don't understand then why even give out menus vs bar menu if the kitchen is closed. Needless to say we left ordering nothing. A complete WASTE OF GAS coming all the way from Berwyn and even CALLING beforehand. We noticed when leaving another couple that came after us had food at their table. Not sure if we were being profiled or simply the waiter just didn't want to do their job.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for dinner Friday night.
Was surprised by Old Style Light sign out front. Don't know if I've ever seen an Old Style Light beer sign. The Brown ale I wanted was out which I guess it means people liked it. Ended up going with the Harold's Honey 83. Catfish po Boy sandwich. The fries were great liked the seasoning. ย My sandwich was good think the catfish could have used some seasonings that were lil more savory. The decor was cool/ rustic blend. Place wasn't packed but there were other diners in there good amount of people.

Drinks were good. ย Nicole was the BEST waitress!!!! She recommended a few other places that we try before leaving.
Be the first to ReplyMade brunch reservations for four on a Sunday.
When we arrived, we waited a very long time until someone finally approached us and checked us in. We then had to wait a while longer since all tables were booked.Service was painfully slow and they were out of a couple essential menu items. I went with the shrimp and grits with a hurricane. Food was yummy and my drink was alright.
Be the first to ReplyWent there March 2, Wednesday for dinner.
It is a fun bar , fun atmosphere and they got us playing Bingo, which also was fun, ( I was with 2 men) and they really got into Bingo. Our big complaint was the food. We ordered a dozen grilled oysters, and non of the oysters had an oyster. Seriously, just the delicious cheesy topping , but no oyster . We mentioned it to our waiter Enrique , but nothing was done about it. We were having a great time so we ย just blew it off. Enrique was a really nice waiter . So then we ordered the seafood tower, not realizing that everything , EVERYTHING was fried. I am not a fan of fried seafood, as you get lots of breading and little fish, which was the case here. All the Po boys also had fried fish. I think everything in the restaurant was fried. Well, we ate some of the tower, not knowing what is was, until you pit it in your mouth , like is this piece shrimp or fish or what.....?. and then chewed on tums the rest of the night. So, ย we would possibly come back for Bingo and drinks , but only after we had eaten dinner at Shaw's . ย Food was disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyWe came in for Fat Tuesday.
We checked before coming in to see if we need reservation and it was first come first serve. We were there little bit after 4 and it was just two of us. We made sure we let the host know that we are here to see the band and hang out for couple of hours. They told us we can't be seated in 4 top because it's just two of us. So we sat at two top but we weren't able to see the band. We asked to move to a four top table but the manager said it's not possible. 20 min after she sad two top at four top table, the table we asked to move. Our server was super nice and we asked her if we can move to a two top where we can see that band she said no problem. The manger came to our table and make sure to let us know that we still have to be out in 90 min. Over all really bad experience.I would not recommend or come back.
