Discovered Il Mulino since 2018 and absolutely love their food which is why i keep going back. I particularly like this location more than their uptown one as it feels more cozy and authentic. Their starters are fantastic and downright addictive. They set you up with a big basket of bread, cheese, meat, zuchinni, garlic bread, and bruschetta. Everything is AMAZING, it might be my favorite part of the meal. Onto the food we actually purchased, I was not too impressed. They have a small menu but way too many specials. We started with the calamari which we thought we ordered the fried one but somehow got grilled in a spicy marinara sauce. It was good but not what we ordered. Next I got the cavatelli with sausage and broccolli rabe. It was delicious, a little too al dente and hard but the taste was spot on, it was garlicky and very flavorful. It tasted even better the next day after microwaving. My husband got the chicken paillard which he liked but it was nothing special. Lastly we ended with the tiramisu and Italian cheesecake. Tiramisu was not good. The ratio of lady fingers to mascarpone was way off. It had way too much cream, all butter tasting and no coffee taste whatsoever. We were very disappointed. The Italian cheesecake was delicious as always. Creamy with a slight taste of almond paste. Overall we had a good time but truthfully I found the free starters and cheesecake to be the only things worth the visit. Entrees were good but could use work, might be better to have smaller menu. Service could be better. Our server was attentive but service got very slow towards the end. When we were still working on our starters a server came to clear our table and took the cheese and garlic bread we were still working on. He took it before we could say anything, later when we told him we weren't done he sent us more cheese but no garlic bread which was a shame because it was insanely good. Overall it was good but we had higher expectations.

Our favorite Italian restaurant in NYC!!! Last weekend didn't disappoint! We had a fantastic bottle of wine (recommended by GM), oysters, chicken marsala, and white truffle risotto, and tiramisu for dessert - all excellent, as usual. Service is always awesome - they treat you like an old friend. Can't wait to return!

This was not my first visit to Il Mulino but it will be my last. We orderedthe black linguine with seafood. There was no sauce - it was tasteless.i ordered the langostino I have ordered in the past. i was presentedwith tiny pieces submerged in heavy garlic olive oil. It looked as badas it tasted. i expected reasonably sized langostino that actually tastedlike it should rather that immersed in gook. i sent it back. The waitersconverged in conversation and reluctantly took it away, The waitersasked if I wanted to order something else. i decided to play it safeand ordered eggplant parm which I have also ere in the past. Within10 minutes a block of something with no sauce and the thinnestmozzarella cheese was staring at me. it was no doubt defrosted.I was livid. The brick was cold to the touch. I gingerly tasted it.Unexpressable. I told the waiter that he served me frozen food. He startedto yell at me and said that nobody else in the restaurant was complaining about the food but you. At that moment my husband became involved and told him to shut up. This restaurant is charging mega bucks for subterranean food. The waiters are abominable lacking etiquette is an understatement. Bullying me was also an understatement. Intimidation at a restaurant that charges astronomical prices with poor quality food is unacceptable.

YUM. Such a fun place to go. Servers are so funny and attentive. Booked for my little sister's birthday and they went above and beyond! Dining room is intimate and not too loud.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely delicious.
Order the Ravioli. You will be charged for cancelling a reservation on OpenTable. Still highly recommend.

When the waiter took our order (6 guests), he rattled off at lease a dozen specials without mentioning any prices. Assuming the prices were the same as the menu $40-$60 per entre, we picked the rack of lamb. When the check arrived, it was $140. The waiter offered no explanation other than "it used to be $90" which meant nothing to us. But for a dinner bill that exceeded $750 he did not even offer a single desert on the house, let me buy you a drink or a come back and we will take care of you. Instead his attitude was, "you must be a cheap guest" to question the bill. I live in NYC and will not return.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserโฆ
Be the first to Replyate a delicious dinner on West 3rd.
Been there many times over years but not for 3 years. we got the bill. $140 for a rack of lamb special. they didn't tell us when we ordered. Gently complained. Told me used to be $90 but just raised it. seriously? I'm done with it molino
Be the first to ReplyGreat service and food, good wine too.
The waiters were knowledgeable and hilarious. They kept our large group of 11 filled with food, wine and laughs. Only thing it this place is tightly packed and pretty small. One stall bathroom but clean and everything still flowed fine
Be the first to ReplyYou need reservations and I suggest you call them in
You need reservations and I suggest you call them in advance to get a decent time for dinner. Especially if you want to go there on the weekend. I also suggest that you dress in business attire. The interior is old and dark but that's what gives it charm and a sense of being in your Nonna's house. The food is expensive but it's high quality, large portions and delicious. So in my opinion, it's worth every penny. Everyone should treat themselves every once in a while. I love that once you are seated, they provide you with dried sausage, cheese, bruschetta, fresh bread of different kinds and warm garlic bread and zucchini. It's just like being at Nonna's house for a Sunday dinner. We come here all of the time and I always get the same special entree , Langostino with risotto because it's delicious! However, this time I tried a different entree, their lobster special and they take it out of the shell for you too. It was huge and absolutely delicious! I enjoyed every bite!As an appetizer we tried three pasta specials, we had gnocchi with braised lamb ragu, capellini with spicy shrimp, scallops, and mussels and carbonara pasta. They give you a dish with three divisions, so you can try a little bit of each pasta. They were absolutely delicious! We are never disappointed when we come here. We were too full for dessert so we just had espresso and an cappuccino freddo. There is a public parking lot down there block too... You should really come here and celebrate an important milestone in your life! You won't regret it!

Booked Il Mulino for my girlfriends 25th birthday and WOW!!!!! This was without a doubt the best meal I've had in my entire life. Let's start with George, our server. This man had us cracking up the entire meal. His singing and joking made for an enhanced experience. He sang for my girlfriends birthday and then he mimicked a horse by neighing - almost spit out my perfectly made margarita by the bartender. The food was just unlike any Italian food I've ever eaten. I've had my fair share of veal parmigiana and this takes the cake for the best one by a LONG SHOT. Crispy, thin, and perfectly tender. The spaghetti a la vongole was EASILY the best I've had as well. Pro tip - save some money and some room by not ordering any appetizers, they provide you with free antipasti (bread, marinated zucchini, cheese, meats, and bruschetta). 5 STARS!!!!
Be the first to ReplyIl Mulino might be my new favorite Italian restaurant in
Il Mulino might be my new favorite Italian restaurant in NYC (or one of my favorites, at least)!Started with a bunch of complimentary small bites- amazing tomato bruschetta, fried zucchini, flavorful foccaccia (and other breads), and cheese with cured pork. My Aperol spritz was perfect, which is for some reason a rare thing nowadays (the ratios can be hard to get right). We then got fried calamari, which we definitely didn't need and was just OK. However, even lackluster calamari can't bring down this high score. For entrรฉes, I got the red snapper livornese, and it was so awesome that I did indeed eat that entire huge slab of lightly pan fried snapper covered in tomatoes, capers, and olives. I couldn't find a pic of this in advance but I'm so, so glad I got it. My fiancรฉ got the veal parm, and despite his best efforts, could only finish half. Very thinly pounded veal, not the best he's ever had but definitely up there. We split a side of spaghetti pomodoro, and it actually made me wish I got pasta as my entrรฉe, it was THAT good. Perfectly cooked and the tomato sauce had chunks of fresh tomato and basil. An old school vibe staffed by older Italian men. No dress code, or so it seemed, but you probably wouldn't feel comfortable just wearing a t shirt and shorts inside. Entrรฉes are a bit pricey but I highly recommend! The only downside was the massive stomachache I had after (and garlic breath).

Molto bene!!! So my cousin and I checked this place out! He was in town for business and me, tagged along for a darn awesome dinner!!! First off service, OUTSTANDING! Watching the staff and how they took pride in their job and the dedicated service towards their customers was awesome! Right off the bat servers were on point and bringing food out right away! It was so on point and tasty! Bread basket, little bit of sopprasatta and cheese, a bit of zucchini and some bruschetta to start with was sooo good I couldn't stop eating it all!!' And this wasn't even the appetizers we ordered which also were amazing! Seared scallops, grilled octopus! For my dinner I had the Branzino my cousin the lamb chops! Perfection!!! Drinks were were also on point deserts amazing! And the limoncello yummmy. Yes a little pricy but I will admit for the service, amount and quality of food, I would pay it again and again. Well worth the experience and highly recommended to anyone looking for a great relaxed paced and friendly meal!!!
Be the first to Reply3 stars for the combination of food quality and price.
Prices are just ridiculous! Food is good and service is impeccable.Atmosphere is so so - totally outdated (some may call it traditional) dining room and bar. They give you the bill with your coffee - they want to turn their tables. Overall an underwhelming dining experience.

I had a reservation booked on Sunday 8pm for my wife's birthday and also noted in the reservation notes that it was her birthday (and even called to confirm!). We arrived and we were warmly welcomed but the hostess decided to place us in a table right next to the kitchen (???). I kindly asked to see if we could move just one table over for more privacy but was declined without any reason. It wasn't that busy that night and there were better tables to accommodate us so that was really disappointing. The silver lining was that being so close to the servers resulted in more attentive service and friendly conversation.I would recommend requesting NOT to be seated right next to the kitchen if you plan on going because it was really way too noisy and distracting. Other than that, the food was above average but slightly overpriced for what you get. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be returning.

Food, service, ambiance! Delicious food and great wines. Our favorite Italian restaurant in NYC

Service was horrible! Our server came to take our order and then to give us the bill. We had to go to the bar to refill our drinks. Very disappointing!

This honestly would be a 5 star review if our server didnt mix up 2 of our dishes. The antipasti they bring you is all so delicious. I could have finished the entire bread basket on my own but i stayed strong lol some garlicky, herby, crunchy, and even spicy breads in there all delectable. They also bring bruschetta, zucchini salad, salami, and cheese. We ordered the eggplant stack as our appetizer but somehow we received the eggplant parm even after we corrected our server while confirming the order. It was good but not what we wanted. The housemade caesar is wonderful and fresh. The cavatelli pasta (which we didnt order but was mistakenly brought to our table) was my favorite of the 3 pastas we tried, but the buccatini and ravioli were excellent as well. Veal piccata was so thin and tender. Chicken parm was also delicious. We got a dessert sampler and they also bring limoncello shots at the end which I didn't care for but is a nice touch. Incredible meal and would highly recommend!

I posted a review what's ago when we were here and it was great then and even better now. It's classic with the appetizer setup and all the food is great. The osso bucco w gnocchi was the best i've ever had. One thing here is everything is loaded with garlic which I love, but be warned to bring plenty of mints! ย You must give this place a try and don't worry about the budget when you go!

Be the first to ReplyIf you're looking for a classic New York Italian restaurant
If you're looking for a classic New York Italian restaurant this is for you. Service is old school and PROFESSIONAL. The servers are not only amazing friendly but actually will strongly guide you to the right meals. The food was amazing. The previous reviews all recommend to order light because the free samples that come before the meal. Besides the high amount of Wall Street Bros there the experience was excellent. They must know what's good too.

It looked good while we were waking past it and decided to give it a try.We were given very warm welcome and given seating at the bar though eventually we were moved to a table.I was impressed by their menu and was in mood for some delicious and greasy pasta. We started with baked calamaris and grilled octopus. While you can't get calamari wrong, the octopus was grilled to perfection; soft yet chewy.Next came our mains... I ordered shrimp and spaghetti pasta, my friend ordered Cacio Pepe and another one ordered gnocchi and to our surprise we all were sorely disappointed. Pasta dishes were extremely salty and the gnocchi was below average in taste and a bit on sweeter side.Quite an anti climax of an experience. The same night I got an upset stomach so tossed the leftover pasta that I couldn't finish at the restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyI understand these are very difficult times for restaurants
I understand these are very difficult times for restaurants and their staff, and the business is decimated. However, that said, Such a huge disappointment- I pretty much built our NY leg of this East Coast ย trip and a big birthday around much anticipated holiday dinner here. Just proves you can't go home again.Lamb rack I pined for was raw ( ordered proper MR)and when sent back they just stuck the plate under the broiler instead of remaking. The captain and his lieutenants harassed us about the wine list from the minute we were seated. On this visit I was the only wine drinker but once we failed to order a $100+ wine with dinner real table service evaporated.Wife's veal Milanese was borderline Olive Garden, and my sons pappardelle could have been Ragu. The over the top attention paled as the captain sized up our table as low ticket value ( despite dropping $$$ many times here ย before). Sad to say it's true, some things change and don't remain the same and sadly Il Mulino has clearly become a casualty of their success. As we left the lieutenant saw my 10% tip and grabbed the captain who strangely asked how my lamb was- I told him this was the most disappointing experience I'd ever had at this restaurant and he was also sadly without apology or explanation. Speechless. And without apology. The drama suddenly disappeared! If you choose to dine here, unless you are already famous or have an unlimited appetite for overpriced $500/ bottle Italian reds...DON'T!Adieu Il Mulino , adieu.
