We Always Enjoy the Experience
We dined here almost every time we come to New York. The ambiance sets the tone the service always is wonderful. We enjoy the prix fixe. This time we had the Scampi Oreganata and the Veal Picata. Both ere excellent. We highly recommend IL Mulino.
Be the first to ReplyMy family has eaten at the downtown location for decades. This place was horrible.
Flavorless and mediocre. 35 dollar glasses of bar wine. Spilling my pelligrino and repeatedly pouring tap water into my sparkling water. Compared to the downtown location and our experiences there for decades it was just terrible. Avoid
Be the first to ReplyGreat food and neighborhood restaurant vibe!
We visited Il Mulino Uptown on a Monday night. The restaurant is smaller than I expected, but still cozy and it was very crowded. We booked through Open Table and we were sat quickly. We had a great meal overall and some suggestions include the meatball and rucola appetizers. We also tried a pear salad special for the night that was amazing. The pollo parmigiana is the best chicken parm that I’ve ever tasted. It’s a super thin piece that has a light breading and a host of cheeses on it that melt in your mouth. We also tried a shrimp scampi dinner that was excellent and the dessert sampler was the way to go to end the meal. The service is spectacular. Simply put, there is a team to make sure your experience is positive. Some picky things to point out include the noise. It’s loud in there and not an intimate, quiet dinner that I’ve experiences at their other locations. Having said that, the vibe is fun and not on obnoxious so you settle in pretty quickly. Over all we had a great dinner that was paved slow and the staff was great. It’s expensive and the dress seemed to be business casual with a mix of people dressed up and some dressed more casual. It does have a neighborhood restaurant feel.
Be the first to ReplyMuch to Snack On
This is the first Italian restaurant in NYC I've been to where the restaurant provided so much more than just bread. You can pick from 3 breads - a "spicy" one, a generic plain one, and one with olives. In addition, you get some cuts of salami, chunks of parmesan cheese, and some zucchini. There's already so much to nibble on while perusing the menu. The restaurant week menu sticks to some tried and true classics - the minestrone was perfect for how cold the prior weekend was and the poached pear delicious. While the marsala di vitello (veal dish) was decent, it wasn't as standout as the other courses. It was clearly a popular restaurant for Sunday brunch. Fret not - waiters come to add cheese and pepper to anything your heart desires for all the cheese lovers out there.
Be the first to ReplyGreat lunch! Tasty and a great value!
We were here for lunch and were driven here by the $39/pp lunch menu. This menu offered a lot of choices which made it very appealing. We were warmly greeted and we were seated before a friend joined my wife and I. They brought parmigiano reggiano, bruschetta and bread for the table. The parm was broken off a wheel and a chunk was given to each of us. It was fabulous. Two of us opted for the burrata and watermelon drizzled with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The burrata was more firm than I am used to, more like mozzarella, but was really good. I liked the substitution of the watermelon from the more traditional approach of using a sliced tomato. The other guest ordered prosciutto with melon and berries. I didn’t have it myself but was a large serving and she really enjoyed it. For the entree 2 of us ordered the salmon which they said was excellent while I ordered the red snapper. The snapper had more sauce on it than I would have preferred but I just pushed some aside. It was very flavorful and perfectly cooked. We had Tiramisu for dessert which was fine. We typically don’t eat dessert and definitely not at lunch. We had an extended lunch because we had a lot of catching up to do and they were very totally cool with that. Service was very friendly and professional. Everyone really enjoyed it and it was a great value! Definitely recommend. It seems that only the uptown location offers this special price menu for lunch but I could be wrong.
Be the first to ReplyDisgusting
Absolute disgrace …. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone … $750 for 4 ppl & food had no taste … they robbed us to make up for slow business .. absolutely disgusting
Be the first to ReplyFor shame -I hope this degrade of service and style is not permanent
went there for lunch and chose the restaurant week menu. the scampi not as flavorful as usual but ok. main dish pollo a la Milanese used to b excellent but now bland and not very Milanese unless you like a sauteed chicken cutlet ok we'll let that pass now we come to the fun. i asked for the tiramisu and the server brought a piece literally a square an inch and half by inch and a half. I complained that this was an absurd portion ... answer? "This is what you get for Restaurant Week menu if you don't like it don't eat it!" Huh? Sorry did I get transported to a cheap diner with rude service? So I said this is absurd, don't even include desert if you will chintz our like this! Answer? You can order from the main menu and get a bigger portion. I was not complaining about the portion so much as the tackiness of Il Mulino in gaming a meal to save money. If they don't want to do restaurant Week fine but when I order a meal I don't need to be treated like a second class citizen. Anyway I asked for a real desert because I had a guess for whom I had ERRONEOUSLY raved about the restaurant. I paid them the lousy $10 extra (thought they did not bill, but really the hassle was cost enough) because I wasn't playing in their cheapening sandbox. What a way to lose loyalty! Ain't going for a while and please you know there are more civilized restaurants in NYC.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful food and experience
The food was absolutely delicious and the service was perfect. They start you with a plate of appetizers like bruschetta, focaccia, Parmesan Reggiano, etc. We had the Restaurant Week menu which was an excellent value. They asked if we were here for that and provided a menu with more choices than many other restaurants have for the promotion. Our waiter, Ricardo, was right on top of everything and made us feel very welcome. There was a very sweet woman from the bar who checked on us several times and gave us homemade limoncello. I didn’t get her name but she was so nice. All the staff were and they helped me with some mobility issues. As for the food, the portions were plentiful (we had leftovers) and everything had a very clean, homemade taste. We both had veal (2 different dishes) and we both found it could be cut with the fork. It was that excellent quality, whiter veal that is flavorful and tender. Appetizers were burrata with watermelon and shrimp. Both were great. You choose how much olive oil and pepper is used. I really enjoyed the flavor of the perfectly ripe watermelon with the burrata which surprised me. I’m not overly adventurous with food. We ended with tiramisu and lemon sorbet. Great way to end a tasty meal. For both experience and food we would happily return, even without a promotion!
Be the first to ReplyAn option for Italian food in NY
The place is small and crowded. Food was tasty and service was truly chaotic. Nice atmosphere. Not the best Italian in town, but worth a visit for a casual meal.

We visit every we are in NY. Always super nice service and very high quality food - my alltime favorite Italian restaurant in NY.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Food and Ambience
We ate at Il Mulino last night (a group of 9). The food, service, and ambience was amazing! I had the Chilean sea bass… best I’ve ever had! Others in our party had shrimp scampi, the filet, ravioli, pasta, etc… everyone raved about their food. The appetizers/desserts were great, too! We will definitely return to Il Mulino next time we are in NYC!!
Be the first to ReplySimply My Favorite Italian Restaurant
We make a point of dining hear every time we are in NYC. The bar scene is electric, the drinks are generous and the service impeccable. As a son of an Italian mother, i am very discriminating when it comes to Italian food. Il Mulino is simply excellent Italian food. You will not be disappointed with your experience
Be the first to ReplySpectacular
Ate there last night. Wife and I went for our final dinner of our 35th anniversary trip to NYC, and wanted some good Italian food in a romantic setting. A foodie friend recommended ILlMulino, and it greatly exceeded our expectations.
We split 3courses... Prosciutto and melon, lobster ravioli, and branzino. All courses were generous. We were full at the end of the night. For 3 courses of spectacular food, we spent about $130, or $65 each. I have seen some reviews complain about prices here, but I thought it was priced just right considering the size of portions. I defy you to get a 3 course meal of this quality at this price anywhere in NYC. And the courses were so large, neither of us finished all our food.
We love branzino. We order it alot, and this may have been the best we have ever had anywhere.
The ambiance is perfect. Low lights. Romantic. And enough noise to give it a fun buzz.
But what made this restaurant really special was the service. Plates were cleared immediately, dinner was paced perfectly. Our waiter was welcoming and friendly.
If I lived in NYC, I'd eat here regularly. If you're visiting, I am sure this restaurant will not disappoint.
Delicious! Great location! Romantic ❤️
We went to NYC for Valentines Day and to celebrate our 20th anniversary. A friend recommended this restaurant and it was FABULOUS!!! We had a special menu for Valentines Day and the food was absolutely delicious. Our server was great as well. Great experience.
Be the first to ReplyOld school Italian w/ fine dinning service
Upper East side Il Mulino actually has more space and newer interior than the original location. Monday night quiet dinner with family/friends with amazing service from entire time we walk into the restaurant with warm welcome to picking up coat as we were departing. Branzino, pasta dish, chicken were amazing w/old school recipes. Nice appetizer like sampling and parmesan cheese sampling a nice touch as always and served to the table with Covid guidelines.

A cold Sunday night in New York City we were welcomed into Il Mulino. Warm, perhaps a little too crowded, but excellent service. We were barely in our seats when an enormous piece of fresh Parmesan cheese appeared on our table and a piece was cut for each of us. The service was excellent and the food even more so. Many people took care of us, We shared an extraordinary artichoke salad, and I had shrimp francese with risotto the like of which we have only had in Italy. We shared some excellent tiramisu for dessert. We no longer live in New York, but will return the next time we visit.
