il Buco New York Reviews from The Last Year
10/10 dining experience truly.
From the moment I walked in I felt transported into a quaint little european town village vibe place. The ambiance was perfect. Service was also so lovely and very attentive, we never waited long while waiting for food or water. Ordered a ton and some not pictured: pulpo, tonno, bikini, tagliatelle, (another pasta with sausage), tarte for dessert. Everything was amazing - it's been a while since I have felt blown away by Italian food but this really did the job! It was a little pricey but worth every penny. I will be back. My favorites were definitely the pulpo, tagliatelle, and tarte dessert.

One of these two stars is for the ambiance, which is truly perfect. The second star is for the Cannolicchi pasta dish. The lack of stars is for service and everything else we ate, including chicken, king crab ceviche, and burrata. The chicken just tasted like someone dumped a bunch of herbs on it and threw it in the oven. There was also hardly any chicken at all on the bone and I still had no interest in finishing it because of its flavor. The king crab ceviche was 10% crab, 90% mixture- do not waste your money on this. The burrata was also very small but it was burrata. The service started pretty well- our server was nice and helpful with selecting our wine. He did forget one of our 2 pasta dishes though and then we didn't really see him again. We had to flag someone else down to see if our third dish was coming (there were 3 of us and only 2 dishes came out). The manager said they hadn't forgotten it and it was on the way... 20 minutes later our pasta came out just around when we had finished eating everything else. They were not really apologetic and didn't offer anything- I told them I'm not paying for a dish that came out after my friends had finished their meals and then they comped it but you really shouldn't have to say that. Disappointing experience overall which is a shame because it's a great space in a great location.

It is RARE to go to a restaurant with such great ambiance, food service and value. $15 for a glass of Prosecco at this caliber restaurant was very reasonable. I felt transported outside of NYC in this very cozy space. Very romantic ambiance at night with the lights very low and candles. The service was impeccable. We always had a full carafe and glasses of water. Our waitress was a pro. The food was simple and delicious. The croquettes and dipper sauce were lovely. The bikini sandwich was delicious but a little over powered by the mozz cheese, couldn't taste the truffle. Also the homemade bread is truly delicious! Note - for party of 2, note a lot of tables are communal so make sure to note if you want a 2 top!
This is really like a 2.
5, but between 2 and 3 I would lean more towards 3 because of the service from our waitress and the cocktails. It was not on my list of restaurants, but me and the wife were looking for a brunch place with availability that was pet friendly and Il Buco was available. If you are in a pinch maybe give it a shot, but other than that maybe look elsewhere. Ambiance As I mentioned, we came with our dog so we sat outside and cannot really say much about the ambiance. Outdoors was cozy however, and they have heaters too which made it more pleasant. The inside did seem very cozy though when I went to the bathroom. Service The waitress was very accommodating with our dog, which really heightens the experience when eating out with your furry friend. She was not over the top attentive, but gave off a good relaxed vibe. Cocktails The drinks here were really good and the house cocktails were creative. We ordered a couple different drinks from the house menu and they were all spot on. Food Bistecca ($46) This is where things start to fall off a bit at Il Buco in my opinion. We ordered the steak medium well but it came well done. It is supposed to be wagyu beef but nothing about it was anything more special than a regular skirt steak. Flavor was just ok as well. Spaghetti ($30) This was my favorite dish that we ate here. The pasta was cooked very well and the flavor of the sauce with the tuna fish worked perfectly. However, I would say that the dish is rather simple and probably something you could recreate at home and save the 30 bucks. Risotto ($32) Because Infatuation said that this risotto was perfect, we were really excited to order it. But it was far from perfect. It was just very bland in our opinion, and after trying some really good risotto at other places, this would not even be in the radar in terms of comparison. I have a friend who is just a regular home cook whos risotto would blow this out of the water.
This place has been around forever, it seems.
There is a reason why they have been around; they execute well across the board. The ambiance is cozy and not the modernized bistro styles of today. The food is nothing to write home about but not bad either. I'd stop by again for a glass or two of wine and small bites.
I received a gift certificate for $200.
Tried to use it and was told only $59.55 remained. I paid remainder of bill + tip with my AMEX. Steve, the manager, would only credit my AMEX $129.90 unless I agreed to stiff the waiter $10.55. I told him to give it all to the waiter and confirm that he in fact did give to the waiter. Of course, Steve never wrote back. The food is fine but the management is immoral.

Very quaint and cozy Italian spot! The interior has cute wooden decorations and is dimly lit, making for a great ambiance. The service is attentive and polite. The food was really good as well! We tried the ricotta and octopus for appetizer and both were stellar. For my main, I got the spaghetti, which was perfectly al dente. For dessert, the tarte de pera was nutty and delicious. Unfortunately, we were not a fan of the bomboloni dessert, which tasted like it had been sitting out too long. Overall, if you want a cozy and delicious Italian meal, I would recommend this place!

So cute inside, great food & service! They made my anniversary very special :) thanks again.
Favorite italian restaurant in nyc so far.
Unbelievable food - loved the risotto. As good as a risotto can get. Wait staff and bar staff were so friendly and on point. And the atmosphere is quaint and sophisticated.

Enjoyed a pleasant weekend lunch experience, despite slightly busy servers on Saturday. The highlight was undoubtedly the delicious food.
Il Buco
An extremely authentic Italian dining experience. I felt I had teleported to a family run restaurant in the heart of Firenze or Bologna. Came here with mom as she was in town for the week. The only res was for outdoor and I was a bit skeptical, but it was a great overall experience. We both got a glass of Chianti and started with the Salumi platter and the Kale salad. Eating with mom is the best because she eats like a mouse, so I essentially get my entree and 93% of hers. I ordered the Bistecca and she got the Torchio. A perfect steak-pasta pairing like Kobe-Shaq, Bonnie and Clyde, Shrek and Donkey, Kobe-Pau, etc... Everything was fantastic and Il Buco has become a go-to Italian spot in the city for me. Suggest you dine elsewhere
Slow service, fish dish that was tough and over cooked, artichoke appetizer that was burnt, crab and wild rice dish that was tasteles, and chairs that would be comfortable if you weighed 100 pounds or less ... need I say more?
The food was just OK, which unfortunately far exceeded the service
Overall, the food was good. Not great, but good. The ceviche was average, the calamari was very good, the risotto was good (yet quite lacking in seasoning), the ravioli was fine, as was the peach tart (though it tasted as if it might have been frozen at some point, which is not a great taste for what should be a fresh fruit dessert). Overall, the food was good, but not better than that. Unfortunately, our server was awful. When asked for recommendations, he said "it's a daily menu." (I guess meaning he had not tried the food? We were left to interpret, as that was his only response.) When we started to ask for wine recommendations, he just walked away before seeking any input and said "I'll go get the sommelier.") He was brusque and showed no indication of being interested in his job or our dining experience. Not once did he come by to see how we were doing or if everything tasted good. We won't return.
simply the best
This is the real deal! High quality food, lovely knowledgable staff that do not treat you like a one timer when you are a regular like some places in NYC. It's nice to eat outside during pleasant weather and inside is equally lovely with a beautiful vibe. This is my go to place as it is consistently excellent!
Great
Evening dinner at the terrace. Excellent food, amazing ambience and great service. Want to come again with the family.
A Pure Gem!
The number of possibilities for food in New York City is endless. You could live there your entire life and not try all the great restaurants available. For a visitor, it can be overwhelming. Let me help a little. Put Il Buco on your “must go to” list. Absolutely amazing. Great restaurants start with great staff, and Mark was a fountain of knowledge, with great recommendations when someone was contemplating different options. Knows the menu and wine list inside out, and ready to help make your experience that much better. 5 guys on a trip, all with different wants, and everyone one of us thrilled with the end result. The Olive Oil tasting as a starter was a unique experience, and the cold fruit-based soup was exceptional. The ceviche was light and delicate and simply amazing. The pastas sampled were all fantastic. Highly recommend adding this stop to your next trip to NYC!
Italian excellence for a dream lunch
When you walk in, you feel like you are in an Italian farmhouse. It’s like being in a movie set. The staff is professional and prompt. The food is wonderful. We started with an olive oil and bread tasting. Their bread is amazing. They bake it four times a day. You can tell. It’s wonderful. We also had the prawns as an appetizer (huge delicious prawns served in the shell). My wife had the risotto and I had the grilled lamb with broccoli. We both loved our meals. When you combine this food with this service and this ambiance you have a winner. By the way, it’s been open 28 years in NYC, probably the most competitive Italian food scene in the country. If they can make it there, they can make it anywhere! BOOM!! We will be back when we visit again. Special thanks to manager Isabella. She was gracious enough to share some restaurant recommendations. She clearly knew what we liked. Thanks, Isabella. Love this place. The only reason I gave it five stars is because I couldn’t give it six.

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it? |
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
Newbie sellers— how fast do your reservations sell?
I have some reservations coming up tomorrow that have gotten lots of views but haven’t sold yet. I haven’t made a sale yet since I just joined this week. I keep lowering the price, but am worried they won’t sell. How long did it take you to sell your first reservations? And did you have success being reimbursed by AT for no-show or cancellation fees? Just looking for a little reassurance. Thanks!

Also don’t pay these fake “gurus” hundreds of dollars to teach you. Might as well sign up for a software class. 😕
