Manager, Shawn Martin, did not allow me to dine here
Manager, Shawn Martin, did not allow me to dine here because I smelled like weed. I even offered to go change my clothes and come back but to no avail. Couldn't believe it. I've been coming here for years. The service has been steadily declining over the past year. I'm really disappointed in how this was handled and the disregard of my medical needs.

They do great steaks. Pretty nice ambiance. They do a great grilled artichoke appetizer. Highly recommend it

I am giving this restaurant that our family has loved for over 20 years one star strictly because of a horrible experience and lack of response from management. I am adding the email sent below. The email was sent to the three general managers listed on the website. Our service from the server team and the food was great. HOWEVER, service from the general managers was disgusting and repulsive. Especially to someone who has been to Hillstone establishments in Century City, Miami, Rutherford, Pasadena, Yountville, and Irvine (previous El Segundo location as well). Hello Sean: It's been a little over a week since my family and I visited the Pasadena location of Houston's. My family and I (my husband and two of my three daughters) frequent the Hillstone brand, specifically your Pasadena, Yountville, and Rutherford (sometimes Santa Monica) locations. On this occasion (February 10th), we were visiting your Pasadena location for my husband's 53rd birthday. Our lunch experience started great with our server, Katherine. My fish (trout) was placed in front of me. I took a bite, and it was flavorless. I informed Katherine, and she promptly took the fish back. The fish was returned with the bite I took from it. Before I continue, I was told this is your policy, and like I said to Albert, that is a trash policy. I informed Katherine that I wanted a new piece of fish because this fish was returned to me over-seasoned and dry. Katherine respectfully and kindly apologized and took the fish back. Upon Albert returning with a new piece of fish, he confirmed your policy of reheating and returning food that has been eaten off of if it's not to the customer's liking. As mentioned, I informed Albert that the policy is trash for a restaurant of Houston's caliber and price point. We frequent restaurants like The Strand House & Nick's on 2nd and have never experienced anything like this. Honestly, for the 20+ years that we've visited Houston's I've never had to send food back; this was the first time. This is where the story goes south. Albert responds and continues to confirm this is the policy; I share my experiences at establishments like Houston's, why this was weird, and why I stand my ground on this policy being trash. Instead of Albert removing himself from the situation, he continued to put me in a position where I had to defend myself. I had to tell him bye, and I did not want to hear anything else he had to say. He starts to walk away, turns around, and says, "That is not fair, ma'am." I told him, "Bye, Albert, I do not have to listen to you or what you have to say." He says, "Yes you do, this is my establishment," with his R+D Kitchen Yountville chef's coat on. At that moment, my husband glared at him in disgust, and he then turned around and walked off. His statement regarding this restaurant being his establishment was disgusting and gave possessive motives that were unnecessary to display to a customer. Of course, when you read this, the situation does not seem as disgusting as it was, but rest assured, it was disgusting. Not to mention, for our family to be loyalists to the Hillstone Brand and to be treated like this was beyond repulsive. After the encounter with Albert, Katherina and Rosa were very kind, apologetic, and compassionate towards us and our needs. I needed to share this experience with you as the General Manager of "the establishment." I know that Albert is your "co," HOWEVER, horrible behaviors should not die without being exposed. I want to reiterate that his behavior was disgusting, and as I shared with Rosa, I am sure he would not have spoken to his wealthy white clientele that way. Oh, let me make this clear: he should never judge a book by its cover. Please note that "free food" is not what most people seek. Most people want the opportunity to share their experience with leadership without leadership responding the way Albert did. Regards, Alicia

The artichoke is delicious, we waited maybe thirty minutes on a weekend night so it wasn't too bad. We sat at the bar and they were SOOOOO friendly here. Great food, great service, nice crowd. I would come back.

Came to this restaurant with some ladies to celebrate the 85th birthday of my friend. The table ordered the artichokes with dipping sauce. They loved it. However, I'm not a fan of Artichoke. For lunch I ordered the cheeseburger with fries and it was very good! To me, it was a little pricey at $25, but it was good. My friend loves their Ruby Red Trout, and they raved about it! They also ordered the Spinach & Artichoke Dip, which was quite tasty, I must admit. The waiter was very nice and even pulled out his pocket knife to help open my friends present. We got there at 3 pm and the place was full. So I'm assuming since the one in the Valley closed, everyone is flocking to Pasadena to have their favorite dishes.

I absolutely love this place!! I came to celebrate me!! I found the first available parking spot as I entered, how lucky could I be?!?! And even though there were many people ahead of me, somehow, I got seated after about 30 or so mins. Lunch was delicious and perfect as ever!! Service was tops and their food is always amazing!!

Came here for the first time for our anniversary and was absolutely amazed. The ambiance was perfect, the service was great, and the food was incredible. Every bite was delicious and was sad when I couldn't finished the rest.

Management is really great and professional and so is the wait staff. I dine here regularly for meetings, special occasions, or just randomly drop by during the week when I'm craving something yummy. I usually get their burgers, chicken sandwich, sushi, artichokes and salads. Their food is simply phenomenal and ALWAYS consistent. Great place to bring clients or grab a bite to eat when in the area, the atmosphere is very chill but classy. Bar is usually open seating but if they're busy, they do have a separate wait list for that.

Few restaurants manage to keep consistency as a key ingredient in check but every time you order a steak (of course medium rare) you will always get it to that desired temperature. Every time you desire quality food, you get it. Every time you want fast, efficient, and attentive service, well you get it. Houston's is like an old fashioned country club with old school vibes that have adapted modernism to their menu. Simple menu and a place where variety is ample.

Hawaiian steak all the way!!! Don't look further on the menu... this is what you need to try here. Meat melts in your mouth, broccoli is perfectly seasoned you can make a whole meal just on the broccoli, mashed potatoes are on point. Drinks are good, but not memorable. Make a reservation otherwise the wait is pretty awful, so I sat at the bar to eat. I'd like to point out that this is the only place where sitting at the bar feels very comfortable, the bar table is thick enough for you to be comfortable and place your arms comfortably on them; giving you a feeling that you're actually sitting on a table not a bar. Staff is very fun, outgoing, and check in on you often. The vibe is definitely felt here and you are treated like a king. Strongly recommend.

Filet mignon was delicious and the atmosphere was fun and busy. Excellent service, too. Beautiful decor. Loved the koi pond! Scrumptious dessert just topped it all off. Nice evening.

Ironically enough, out of all of their 11 locations, Houston isn't even one of them!Houston's restaurant is the kind of place where you can bring your grandma for a birthday dinner and your work buddies for a post-workday celebration and be confident that everyone will have a great time. The consistency of service is truly impressive, as the staff from the hostess in the front to the busers all are highly trained for experience and customer service. In the dozens of times I've been here, I've never had a bad wait service experience. As for the food - although not ground breaking Michelin star, all dishes hit the mark for great quality and traditional dishes that will always be cooked to perfection. You'll forget about your diet and order a second round of those to-die-for grilled California Artichokes served with rémoulade. Actually, anything grilled on the menu is grilled right up in front at the entrance over a wood fired grill, basically making your mouth water the second you walk through the door.Speaking of consistency, Houston's commitment to quality is truly admirable. They don't just say that everything on the menu is prepared daily from scratch - they actually mean it. The attention to detail is apparent in every bite, from the perfectly cooked wood grilled rib-eye served with bok to the freshly baked bread. I don't know how they do it, but they manage to make you feel like you're dining at a fancy establishment while simultaneously making you feel at home. So if you want to experience an affordable yet fancy restaurant that's consistent in both service and quality, head to Houston's - you won't be disappointed.

I love the servers here, Danielle on Fridays is one of the best. Super on top of it, super down to earth and willing to make your dining experience top tier, they don't particularly allow togo orders but she was able to accommodate me for my father. Love the dim lights and atmosphere... just a great place to expect consistency.

Houston's used to be my favorite for prime rib prior to Covid. Loved going there on Friday evening, the ambience used to be to much fun while enjoying a few drinks in the bar area until our name was called for dining. I've been there a few times after Covid and they were no longer serving the prime rib which is the main reason I would go there. The steak we had was blah, very dry. The service was ok, drinks were really the only thing that was good. Most likely I will not go back.

I was surprised Friday afternoon at 4:30 the restaurant was packed. We waited for about 30 minutes. The server Samira was friendly and provided good service. We ordered the grilled artichoke which was very tasty with or with out the dipping sauce. The coconut shrimp roll was delicious, loved the crushed coconut in the roll. For the entrees, we ordered the Hawaiian rib eye and BBQ pork ribs. Both are very juicy and big portion. Lots to take home for another good meal.

The food is good if they get your order correct but it ends there. Be ready to wait longer then they promise because they prefer parties of two. Also because they seat couple in booths even though they can accommodate groups of 4 and 6. We waited 2 hours even though they promised a wait if an hour and 15 minutes. My son fell asleep because it was so late. On top off all this his order was wrong. My wife asked for water 3 times but never received it. Food is good. When you finally are seated and you receive it and your order is correct.
