This was a beautiful restaurant right in the center of a hotel! I booked a reservation for my girlfriend and I's anniversary when we were in Hawaii. The location was right next to the water and there was live music while we were there so it felt really calm and nice when we were eating dinner. The service from the time we got there and the time we left was awesome and great! Everything was great, everyone was so attentive towards us and made sure we were doing great with our food! To start off the dinner we ordered two drinks, my girlfriend got an orange creamsicle and I an alcoholic drink that I forgot the name but it was delicious and creamy. For appetizers we ordered the Kabayaki fries and the trio poke which came with ahi tuna, tako, and marlin! The fries were so crispy and the sauce with the sweet kewpie and tobiko makes every bite so sweet and crunchy! And the poke was delicious too, the best out of the three was probably the ahi tuna! For our entree I decided to go with their signature steamed local fresh which was the local sea bass! And my girlfriend got the Margherita pizza. Entrees was okay and finally we were surprise with a piece of cake for our anniversary! The cake was a coconut cake with a raspberry coulis! Not too sweet and very moist! Overall, the experience was awesome and everything was delicious! Thank you House without a key!

One of our favorite places in the world! We recently returned and it's better than ever. The food is delicious and the service is impeccable. Try to go for sunset cocktails with former Miss Hawaii Kanoe Miller dancing hula. It's magical.

We had an outstanding dining experience at House Without a Key in Hawaii. The ambiance was charming, with a terrace overlooking the ocean, perfect for dinner or cocktails. I highly recommend trying their Table 95 cocktail; it was delicious. Don't forget to request table number 95 for an extra special experience. Additionally, the fish, especially with their garlic sauce, was absolutely delectable. Plus, the live Hawaiian music added such a lovely touch to the evening.

Had a birthday dinner here last night and wish I could say it was even a little special. The good part and reason for the 2 stars: restaurant ambiance was great, and the bar team took care of us while we waited for our table. Our server was okay. However, the unfriendly attitude of the hostesses, host, and some of the server assistants was very disappointing. It's a turnoff, and missing the warmth of the other restaurants in Hawaii. It seemed like they didn't want to come to work and we were an inconvenience. A good tip if you want to try and enjoy your night: don't ask the hostess if your table is ready. The two hostesses were irritated when I politely asked for a table indoors because it had been raining, and even laughed to each other pointing at the seating chart planning where to put us. Later I learned that it was the worst table at the edge of the pool with no umbrella, even though the restaurant was empty and we had a reservation. We ended up eating fast to get out of the weather. Would have asked for a manger, but none on duty and we didn't want to risk getting spit in our food by complaining.

We sat outside to enjoy the entertainment of live Hawaiian music and hula. A little pricey on the drinks at $22/per since the night before we had equally great drinks at a beach bar for $12. Usually the rate for Waikiki was $15 to 18. HOWEVER, my assumption was the price included the entertainment which was lovely and the atmosphere which was breathtaking. The food was good but I only had 1 appetizer so its not fair for me to really judge the food. Though the coconut pie was amazing! Valet parking but it's free when validated and right there at the hotel. It includes 4 hours free so you have time to walk around, shop, etc and still enjoy dinner or drinks and appetizers. Would come again.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding service by Thomas.
I was treated like royalty from check-in to table, all the way throughout my dinner and departure. They even somehow knew it was my birthday. I started with the seafood roll and it was perfectly balanced. Not easy to do when comprised of crab, ahi tuna and salmon - tempura style. Light and so many flavors dancing in my mouth I didn't want it to end. Not a rice roll, nori instead. Perfection (see video). Everything is cooked to perfection and the setting, overlooking diamond head with musicians and dancer (see video) make for a truly romantic and relaxing ambiance. The coconut cake is so light, I thought it was going to float off my plate. I thought I was too full for dessert. Wrong! I managed to devour the generous slice without sharing. The dining is on par with the with five star, Halekulani Hotel property luxury experience. Hats off to the chef, maitre d', Thomas and the entire staff. I will be returning.

We love this place, although you can no longer walk off the beach and grab a seat on the lanai and have a drink and a nibble. That was our favorite reason to go to Kaimana beach. The bar is open inside. It was very busy when we were there. One for my friend was the cocktail I had. I can't drink vodka so they were able to make it with gin. My friend had a glass of wine. We didn't eat anything.

This was such a beautiful lunch spot for our anniversary!! The service was amazing.. the food was DELICIOUS, and the drinks... well I probably could've had one of each on the menu they were so good! The view is amazing too!! I'll definitely be back here! Thank you for the celebratory anniversary dessert also!
Be the first to ReplyIt is a trendy place we needed to try for our anniversary.
The location is great : it's by the ocean and outdoors. Several artists performed during the dinner : traditional Hawaiian music, hula and acoustic/guitar interpretation of popular tubes. The service was efficient and fast. We ordered wine (white and rose) and I ordered the fresh from the sea : it was Mahi Mahi with a macademia nut crust, served with a lilikoi cream, asparagus and lobster tail tempura and white rice. It was delicious and delicate, a mix of flavors. They serve fresh taro rolls which are pretty good. I recommend this lovely place for a date or special night

Be the first to ReplyWe came here less for the food and more for the experience
We came here less for the food and more for the experience - the sunset over the ocean horizon, the evening views of Diamond Head and Waikiki, the chilled hula show and music, and the cocktails. And it delivered on providing the romantic Hawaiian cliche. We knew this is a wildly popular place, so we made a reservation for a table a few weeks before coming - and everything was ready for us when we turned up. Staff were friendly and for a busy place pretty efficient. (We didn't stay at the Halekulani Hotel that hosts House Without A Key, so we took the opportunity to explore the place. We discovered the Japanese toilets near the lobby, with their heated toilet seats and range of bidet functions. We were laughing afterwards; we're not used to such fancy toilets.)

I would definitely go back for the ambiance/experience but would not do a full dinner. The food was 50/50 for me -- overall it was expensive for what we got. The steak was great but the fish special was very disappointing as it was dry and lacked flavor. The cocktails were overpriced and I preferred mai tais at other restaurants over theirs even though that was their specialty. The scenery, atmosphere, music, and service was great.

Orchids restaurant and House Without a Key are must-visit places when we visit Oahu. That million dollar view of Waikiki and Diamond Head are unbeatable. Cocktail hour has all the island vibes that you come to expect when you're in Hawaii and the pina coladas and maitais are delicious. Come during sunset for incredible ambiance and live entertainment.

TL;DR: Great views (while it's light out) with live music & dance are really nice but for the price, sticking to drinks and probably the best coconut cake we've ever hadHad reservations for an anniversary celebration and were seated quickly outside. The weather was extremely windy, so we asked to see if we could move indoors but unfortunately tables were all taken - no biggieDrinks:- Mai Tai (5/5): great Mai Tai - not too sweet and gradually gets more and more booze forward as the floater melts in- Prosecco (4/5): standardOrder:- Complimentary taro/ube bread - so good when it's warm with butter- Ahi Tataki (3.5/5): the Tobiko was a good add for flavor and texture but overall a really small plate of average seared ahi- Hamachi Kama (4/5): really well-charred skin gave the collar a smoky flavor- LauLau (3/5): This was more just a big slab of pork belly. Crispy chicharrons and juicy pork belly but not really laulau in our opinion. - Steamed fish (3/5): the kitchen had run out of snapper so I believe we got seabass instead. Fish lacked flavor but bokchoy/veggies were good- Coconut cake (5/5 - MVP): this was a complimentary addition by the serving staff and WOW! Easily the best part of the meal. Super light and not too sweet. Really yummy - would come back just for the cakeService was really attentive and really made our anniversary dinner special and easy-going :)

Ambiance 5 starsService 3 starsFood 2 starsAmbianceThe ocean view and sunset are incredible. Energy level from musicians was very low- they were just going through the motions- kinda felt like a performance at a retirement community.Did not feel much Aloha from the hotel staff- everyone was pretty pretentious~ with an overall cold vibe. ServiceWaiter was pompous and not very friendly. I gave up alcohol for lent so ordered guava juice and requested fruit garnish. Requested a slice of pineapple and was told the bar doesn't offer pineapple- he also didn't offer any option. He brought me canned guava juice that tasted like it had been poured out of a can- thick and with little flavor. Seriously- we're in Hawaii and no pineapple ? WTH??FoodThe poke trio did not disappoint- I'd give it 4 stars- good balance of fresh fish and seasoning.Hubby ordered the soup- all I can say is it looked and tasted like dishwater and included some lifeless veggie's thrown into the watery broth. 1 star We also ordered the char siu coconut baby back ribs- they were dried out and under seasoned. 1 star One trip to house without a key was enough for me- overpriced and disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyThe outside bar and restaurant was very nice.
Service was good & we saw some live Hawaiian music. Very expensive. Drinks were $20-$25 range. Appetizers were good but also very expensive.
Be the first to ReplySunday night at this restaurant is the best.
Each dish is prepared immaculately and with great care. The service is prompt, but not intrusive listening to Hawaiian music with the ocean in the background always leaves me wanting to come back for more.

You really do have impeccable sunset views in an elevated, but relaxed atmosphere. The singers and hula were beautiful. Their singing voices were strong and calming, with the simple pluck of the ukulele and guitar. And the roar of the ocean made for the best background vocals. Set up a hammock on the lawn and I'm there all day. :)We decided to walk in without a reservation. We arrived just prior to 5:30 as the live entertainment was getting started. Of course the tables were full but there is ample bar seating at Earl's, which is first come first serve. They have a full drink and food menu. You still have decent views of Lē'ahi ('Diamondhead') and can hear/see the singers perfectly. We did put our name on the wait list for a table, but had a drink and a small bite at Earl's while we waited. After having food from both menus, definitely have the majority of your meal from Earl's. I would describe it as elevated bar food & feel good food. The Asian buns were my favorite. The crab shrimp cake lollipops were good as well, but seem to be mostly shrimp. The crab got a little bit lost. Still a tasty bite. The plates are small and the two of us split everything somewhat tapas style. If we had realized that the bar and restaurant menus are different, we likely would have finished our whole meal at the bar and just enjoyed cocktails and entertainment at our table. The flatbread descriptions sounded most intriguing!House Without a Key feels like the epitome of Hawaiian aloha. Outdoors, open and breezy while being intimate and comfortable, and the beauty of Hawaii in general is unmatched. Neither of us had a signature cocktail; I had a Pinot Noir (it was...meh) and my husband had a Jameson and ginger. I do wish they had a larger wine selection, but no major complaints. I won't say I was disappointed in the food at the restaurant, but I was really expecting more. The Hamachi Kama (a roasted fish) was just that. There were no included sides or an a la carte sides menu. It was delicious, but hardly filling. And a bit pricey at $28 for only one piece of fish. My husband kept it simple and had the fries, which were topped similar to a poke bowl. The fries were crispy and tasted wonderful as prepared, but for what it was, shouldn't have been $20.In all fairness, we are in Waikiki where everything is expensive. So it wasn't unexpected. But for that cost we did expect a little bit more food from a place like this. I wouldn't mind returning for another low-key Sunday evening just to hear the entertainment. I would probably either stay at Earl's to eat and drink while enjoying the entertainment, or sit on the patio with just cocktails.Or, we may consider dinner reservations at Orchids next door for a full sit-down dinner. Request to sit outdoors so you can still see the live entertainment across the small lawn.
Be the first to ReplyGood restaurant with amazing service.
And it's within a beautiful hotel! Very romantic ambiance. Definitely worth getting dinner reservations for the evening shows. Food, however, was ok. Nothing was out of this world, but overall good. We got the utopia flatbread, side of sweet potstoes, and the cobb salad. Coconut cake for dessert.

Live music while you enjoy the best meal ever. Service was great and drinks were even better. Definitely will be back on future vacations. Obviously can't leave without coconut cake so defiantly make sure you have room because it's amazing.

It is just a spectacular place. Recently my hubby and I celebrated our Valentine's Day here. We were seated outside; we enjoyed Lauren's Hula Dancing...later I had some pictures with her. She was the Miss Hawaii 2022. The foods, drinks, dessert (suggested by our amazing waiter...sorry I forgot his name ...Asian Man) were all so Ono. Toward the end It was raining and he moved us inside and suggested the special dessert for that day. All in all is another 5 stars. Definitely this restaurant and Orchids are two of our favorites. Mahalo nui loa for being excellent in every ways

Had a delightful lunch yesterday at House Without a Key! Every staff member who helped us (car valet, front desk, waiter) was absolutely wonderful and kind. We sat outside, and even though it rained, the umbrellas outside were large enough to cover us for a majority of the meal. I ordered the catch of the day, which was Mahi, and it was delicious! It came with a sautéed vegetables and a side of the rice. Even though the Mahi was delicious, the vegetables were the star of the show. They tasted so fresh and were perfectly cooked!Finished the meal with a slice of their signature coconut cake.... And I will say it's rhe best I've tried on the island so far! A large piece of cake, but was so fluffy it was easy to eat.

We got there for the sunset and set outside. It was the best place we ate in Hawaii.

We came here last night for an event and it was really pretty- it's not quite what I was expecting- but maybe I was reading too much into the name of the place! The menu looked very varied with nice dishes however we did not eat any food here we just had cocktails for our event- the Mai Thai my husband said was really good and the house Sauvignon blanc I had was good but very warm (I'm not shy about tossing in some ice cubes but others might be!). The service was friendly, fast and attentive. A former Ms. Hawaii came out and danced a lovely hula right as the sun set- the sun sets kind of off to the right but you can still see and take pictures. Nice big grass area for pictures, too.
