A friend was hosting their wedding at this hotel. The wedding was really lovely, and I think the food and arrangements were very nice -- so if you are considering this place for a wedding venue, it may be worthwhile, but DO NOT have your guests stay here! The problems started at check in. We arrived with our group of friends at 4:30PM. Check-in is advertised as 2PM. When we arrived, they claimed they did not have rooms for the entire group. They start to push this "stay at an offsite property and we'll throw in dinner and a tour". No one wanted to do that because we were all staying at the hotel to be with our friends. Also many of us did not have cars, and Sardinia is NOT easy to get around without your own car ("black taxis" only $$$$). Keep in mind that this was a block of rooms for the wedding booked many months ago. Someone in the group got our groom involved who is a native Sardinian and could argue in Italian and they magically "find" all of the rooms we had booked. Oh, but they weren't clean yet so we had to wait at the bar (outside, in 95 degree weather). And no, drinks were not complementary while we were waiting. I am pregnant and didn't want to sit inside in the AC due to Covid, so I asked if they could give me a cold bottle of water (for free) while we wait -- they told me I could "buy one at the bar". It was 6PM before we could go to our room. Except that somehow, my husband and I, who had booked a "Standard Room" were told our room required a "car ride" to get to. We said we didn't want to stay "off the property" and wanted to stay with our friends in the room we booked. They confirmed it was on the property and they would send a driver at any time to pick us up. We were tired from the heat and relented. We should have said "No" and insisted on something at the main resort, like we booked. I've read other reviews since and they have done this to other people. Do NOT take "upgrades" to Villas or "the Beach House" or anything that is not actually walkable from the front desk UNLESS you have your own car (we didn't). We arrive at Villa 41, which we are told is "on the property", but it's not, it's in Piccolo Scoglio, which is a condo housing complex a 6 minute drive away. There were three good things about the complex: 1. It was pin quiet in early September, 2. It had a limited view of the ocean, 3. It was closer to Porto San Paulo (10 min walk). The villa is dingy and not well-appointed -- very bare bones. 2 BR, including one with 3 bunk beds, and 2 bath. It did have a kitchen, but fridge wasn't plugged in. We were paying $250 / night to stay in a "resort". We found an AirBNB in the same complex with the SAME floorplan that goes for $70 / night (and looked much better appointed). Having to call for a car to the hotel is a pain in the butt -- so we ended up not enjoying the pool or hanging out with our friends. There was no bottled water in the room -- for free or purchase. Later on in the stay we came back sandy from the beach, ready to take showers before the big wedding event -- and oh! Surprise! No hot water! When I complained the staff admonished me for "not telling them": when you rent a room to a guest it is not the guests' responsibility to take an inventory of all of the functions -- when I stay in a resort for $250 / night, I expect that someone has checked the hot water is turned on before I need it! The cold shower was the tipping point for me -- I was oscillating between trying to be zen about "this is our friends' weekend, we don't want to ruin it with bad feelings -- let's focus on the positives of it being quiet, etc etc". But, put a pregnant woman in a cold shower and give her a hair dryer that is broken (of course), 30 minutes before a wedding and you're going to get complaints. I asked to speak to the manager the next time I called the front desk. The "manager doesn't have set hours and wasn't on the property". This was actually a lie because the "manager" is the "owner" and the owner was staffing the wedding -- which they also could have just said. I came to the front desk anyway. I wanted a partial refund given how poor the experience in the Villa had been, and how it wasn't what we paid for at all (seeing the $70 AirBNB didn't help). There was no manager to speak to so I spoke to a more senior employee at the front desk. Some reviews say the staff doesn't care, I'm not sure that's true -- I think the staff do care, but I also think they are completely unempowered to do anything about anything. This resort is owned by a mom & pop business -- staff members don't make decisions on their own. They listen, and say they will speak with the manager. Later at 7PM, while we are literally at the wedding reception with our friends, a staff member comes over and says their solution is that we could leave the wedding to move our stuff into the main resort right then (??!!). We had come all of this way to be with our friends in this moment and they knew we were leaving at 5AM the next day, so to even suggest this is pretty ludicrous. How about that discount for being put in an inferior room we didn't book, off-property, having no access to hotel facilities, and no hot water? Nope. So here's a summary of my advice: - The wedding was lovely, DO consider this as a venue. The food from the on-site chef was excellent even with a last-minute format change from plated to buffet due to Covid exposures. Best music bread we had on the island. - Do not tell your guests to stay here and do no stay here yourself. Put them somewhere else and shuttle them up here if you want to have this as the venue. - If you do stay here, do not take "upgrades" to Villas, Beach House, or anything other than the room you booked with the picture on the website. - The beds at Ollatsu are very firm / hard / old, so if that matters to you, take note. - Rent yourself a car while on Sardinia, and especially on the Emerald Coast -- taxis are not like in other places -- they are all "black taxis" and it cost us $25 Euro for a 5 minute ride to the beach, and $15 Euro back. - Don't pay for the breakfast (it was 90% empty by 10AM and they never refilled any of the empty platters).
