Ordinary But Expensive
An interesting concept but much too expensive for 18 dinky pieces of ordinary sushi And if as is customary one would like to have sake with the sushi, the prices are very steep No complimentary extras are offered

In town for business, came here based on positive reviews. definately did not disappoint for taste, quality, and service. 25 items were made front of you by a chef and accimpanied by freshly grated wasabi and ginger to cleanse your palette between courses. Just the taste of each grain of sticky rice was plump and unique when you top it with fresh seafood on top. definately worth a visit if you want a treat in your mouth. although I thought I would be humgry afterwards, amount of food is definately filling for a person with big appetite.

What a delightful experience. We had the tasting and the sake pairings. The staff was wonderful, food was divine. Hey t really was a treat to dine here.

Our most amazing sushi dining experience of 40 years on four continents. Go for the full 90 minutes, but be prepared to order a little extra off the menu after. You won’t be hungry after 90, but the side menu is also amazing. Chef Steven is everything you want in a sushi chef, skilled but also personable. The attention to detail in this place is simply off the charts. Only regret, my in laws just returned to Japan and we did not take them here.
Be the first to ReplyRude receptionist with attitude and one could not tell the freshness of the fish because is was masked with oils
Too controlled of an experience. There is no soy sauce at the bar and most dishes were paired with roe or truffles or other fish making so hard to gauge the quality and freshness. I much prefer Sushi Ota's because I ended up spending the same amount. The "fixed" price of $50 is misleading because they don't give you enough to be satisfied, and the price of the the 1/2 orders (one piece) are very pricey, so everyone ends up ordering more and are gouged at that point. It was too restrictive.

My husband and I dined at Hidden Fish and I wasn’t totally feeling it leading up to dinner, but I am so glad we went. Just a sushi bar with 13 total seats. One chef per 4-5 people. Nigiri tasting menu was amazing! So fresh, perfectly seasoned, no soy sauce allowed!! Great experience, just wish we had done the 90 minute instead of 50 minute, but there is always next time!!! Definitely will be back

My wife and I had some of the best – if not the best – sushi we've ever eaten. And we've eaten sushi in San Francisco, New York, D.C. and many more major cities. The Hidden Fish Omakase dining experience is different. Arrive on time as you'll be seated at a bar with a small group of diners. For the next 50 minutes (there's a 90-minute option available) you'll receive 11 pieces of nigiri sushi (chef's choice) and one hand roll. Each is made while you watch. The chefs are friendly and happy to answer questions. The fish is sourced from around the world and very fresh. Each piece has it own different delicious drop of sauce. After 50 minutes, there's time to order another piece or two from an a la carte menu. An hour after you sit down, it's time to make way for the next group. There's a wide assortment of saki and a few wines. The wait staff was friendly and helpful. This was the first time my wife and I dined here. It won't be the last.

Each piece of nigiri melted in my mouth! and I loved that each piece was sauced by the sushi chef and they were all very different. No soy sauce here and nice ginger to compliment. Definitely need a reservation and we did the 50 minute reservation as 12 pieces was enough for us. The 90 minute seating was sold out weeks in advance after they were featured in a NY Times article.

Having just moved to San Diego from San Francisco, my daughter is seeking out good sushi. On a recent visit, we took her to Hidden Fish, a small 13-chair sushi bar in an unlikely neighborhood. The quality was mouth-watering excellent. Three chefs prepare for seatings of diners. Interesting twists, including a slight chimichurri. The fish is sourced mostly from Tokyo, some from Spain (bluefin) and the rest local (black cod, e.g.) We suggest taking the 90 minute seating to be satisfied and to taste the breadth of offerings.

Totally blown away by Hidden Fish Sushi! The entire experience was royally fantastic from beginning to end. Along with having the best globally sourced sushi and delicacies of the sea, the traditional, intricate, and "Omakase" style preparation ("Leave it to the Chef") in an exclusive and intimate setting reserved for only 13 guests at a time provides a "royal treatment" experience you will not forget! Hidden Fish will leave you with a lasting impression that will make you return for an encore performance!
