Been wanting to try this place for a while after running
Been wanting to try this place for a while after running past for years, and finally did. After spontaneously showing up for happy hour and not getting in, I made a rez and was super excited to try their oyster happy hour special. At my appointed time, the dining room was pretty empty, so I was surprised when the hostess told me that our table would be downstairs. I had no idea there was a downstairs! The stairwell was really dark and sort of treacherous, and I didn't know why I couldn't sit upstairs but I gamely followed the hostess to our table. Downstairs is a whole vibe with blue walls and a bar set up, but it smelled like a candle had been lit to mask the smell of basement. AKA it smelled like a basement. The menu consisted of four separate pieces of paper that even our server had trouble navigating. I ordered the oyster happy hour special. The wine was great but the oysters were just okay, served with beet horserashish (?) and mango hot sauce (??). My husband ordered the eggroll and the fried chicken with caviar, also just okay (the chicken was juicy and cooked really well, but the caviar was lost in the experience--not even sure this is the right vehicle for caviar!). The star of the show was the No Regrets slider, which was sublime. As was the wine! A person who was not our server came over to tell me about the wine I ordered and he painted a whole picture if the vintner and the winery and was himself a whole vibe. We emerged from the basement to be surprised that it was still light outside. We couldn't decide if the place wants to be Russian with its caviar theme or...what with the eggroll/fried chicken/lamb italian beef, all of which sounds great but I'm not sure how it all ties together. Oh, and they seem to be aging beef in a dorm fridge next to our basement table. If you want an oyster happy hour, do Swift and Sons. Go for the wine, try to sit upstairs.

Visiting from out of state, took daughter here to try caviar for first time. Let's just say, starting here, we may have set the bar too high for her! The caviar was truly top notch but the chef tasting led by Pete was casual, relaxed & informative. Jolene & Rosemary took amazing care of us all night. Don't miss the chicharrones & pimento cheese. And save room for made to order packzi for dessert. This was Michelin level food in a comfortable chic neighborhood restaurant. What a memorable experienceWe will be back!
Be the first to ReplyThe caviar was so so incredible.
Some of the best I've ever had. But what stood out the most was the impeccable service from Pete, Rosemary & Jolene, truly amazing people and AMAZING food. Highly recommend the pimento cheese & the paczki.
Be the first to ReplyBest Espresso Martini I have ever had.
Also, the vibe is way better downstairs - much more chill. The Chicharonnes were a very generous portion - and the pickles that came with it were so good!!
Be the first to ReplyWhat started off as spontaneous happy hour visit turned out
What started off as spontaneous happy hour visit turned out to be anything but happy.Recommended by friends, we decided to try this place which is supposed to be pretty upscale. I'd have to say in particular it was this one female server that threw so much attitude it ruined the evening. If you're going to just make snarky comments to customers, maybe it's best you just take the order and not say anything at all.Since we came there for happy hour, we wanted to order from just the happy hour menu. It's not like I can't afford full priced food, I just wanted to take advantage of happy hour deal. I could tell from the look on her face when I showed her my free shot promo, she was not happy we were there. After placing our orders from the happy hour menu, she replied, are you only going to order from the happy hour menu? You don't want anything from the full menu? Like what was the point of that comment? Why not just ask if you can recommend something or ask if there's anything else we would like from the full menu?I wanted to sit next to my date so I moved my chair. Despite there being a giant space for everyone to move, the same server demanded I move back due to "fire hazards" Funny how that's not an issue when they block exit doors with planter boxes... hmm... I will say the food was top quality; oysters, burger, and fried pickles (all house made) were all delicious. When I asked for the bill, I got another snarky comment from that same server. "Is that all you'll want from this restaurant tonight?" Again, WTF was that necessary? Like what was that supposed to mean? What I wanted to initially dismiss as just misunderstandings was now clear to me I was dealing with a totally racist woman who clearly didn't want Asians dining in there. What really ruined the end was when it came time to pay. I have a Canadian credit card where we are normally required to enter a PIN code to pay. Let me preface by saying, I've used this card everywhere in the USA and never had a problem. The server tried to run my card and she said that it was saying the card was invalid. I found out it's because she kept trying to enter a random PIN code. She brought the card back and I told her I could gladly enter the PIN. Her response was that she can't let me behind the bar. I asked her to just bring the machine over or just at least to the bar... she refused. She told me to give her my PRIVATE PIN which would allow anyone to spend on the card and I would be ineligible for fraud protection. She's like, write down your PIN and I'll enter it for you then I'll throw the piece of paper away. I refused. So we were at kind of a stalemate.I finally decided to use a different card which had the same issue but the manager decided to get it authorized for a signature instead. I voiced my disappointment with management and decided $0 tip was appropriate along with this 1 star review. Do BETTER!

Tiffany is the worst hostess ever!! (Inside joke) I came here for happy hour because someone told me that their happy hour had $5 glasses of bubbles. I love bubbles, I love Bubbles more than Michael Jackson loves bubbles! They have a white, red and bubble during HH. They also have food... I am a foodie before I am a bubble lover, and this food is frenomenal! That was not a spelling error, if you couldn't tell I love a pun, as much as I love food and bubbles.... The 'fr' is for friends, I left feeling like the whole staff was my new best friends! Tiffany, the hostess, is funny, gracious and obviously we are cool enough to have an inside joke. Grant, our server showed us lovely pics of his 'babies' and his plans for VDay. Honestly men, learn from Grant, he has it together. Plan a date here!!! I as usual, digress, the rest of frenomenal is 'phenomenal' for the food! I ordered the burger and it's probably one of the best I've ever had in the city! First bite is kind of emotional... the menu is really dynamic and has food that is comforting, delicious and kind of reminds me of my heritage; in the sense that it's so good, comforting and feels like home! I love it here. Oh, and they have won awards! This is an award winning restaurant, which I have to co-sign! They have a freaking trophy for dumplings! We tried them and Daaaamn, these are the dumplings they were talking about in sugar plum and dumpling dreams! Award winning, frenomenal neighborhood place! Enjoy!!!
Be the first to ReplyI've come here over a handful of times.
I love going to this place for happy hour - probably my favorite HH spot. Oysters are always so good and they make a variety of in house hot sauces to pair with your oysters which are so so good - very worth trying all of them. I always get the "They" which is a dozen oysters and a glass of bubbly for only $19. I also get their No Regrets Slider which is sooo good for $7. Their happy hour menu is a really good deal. Definitely a great Chicago gem - I will continue coming here weekly or monthly!!

We came here for their restaurant week menu and it did not disappoint! The place was pretty busy on a Saturday afternoon and we were pretty lucky to have snagged the only 3 bar seats left available What we ordered:Smoked Sturgeon Chlebicky: the smoked sturgeon was great though I thought the rye bread was too toughCrispy Scallion Pancakes: not what I expected. The pancakes were very fried but they were greatEggs on Eggs: light and unique. The kimchi soft scrambled eggs did not have a strong taste and it went well with the lump crab meatDuck Confit Biscuit and Gravy: tasted ok. it was a bit too heavy for me bc there was a lot of gravyDesserts (Cream cheese kolachzi, sesame cream packzi, sourdough doughnut): all pretty goodWe also ordered caviar on the side to share and it was great. Overall, we enjoyed our dining experience here.
Be the first to ReplyI went here for Chicago Restaurant Week 2023 (CRW).
The first thing I did was "check in" in the Yelp app. When you check in, you'll see a "free shot of our house infused vodka for everyone" coupon. Unfortunately, this restaurant didn't accept this coupon. They said they don't accept, or don't work with, Yelp anymore. They didn't honor the coupon, which is fine, but I find it weird that the coupon still showed up.I ordered off the CRW menu, and there were five courses. The food was fine, but the portions were very small and the service was super s...l...o...w. The slow service was shocking because the restaurant wasn't packed with people. Our reservation was at 7pm. Because I take pictures of my food, let me give you the timeline of our night.7:12 pm: Seated at table8:00 pm: First course, Steelhead Trout. It was a small nigiri.8:17 pm: Second course, Study of Radish. They served this as family style (for our table of 3). I was expecting for each of us to have our own portion since the menu clearly states "[CRW] menu is for each guest to enjoy individually". Additionally, the pickled radishes were served on top of...butter? It was not a soft spread, to spread over the radish. This entire dish was odd and different. We didn't like it.8:53 pm: Third course, Prime Rib Pierogi. Good, but salty. (My friend ordered the Pork and Shrim Soup Dumpling. It was one dumpling, and there was no soup inside. Disappointing.)8:53 - 9:17 pm: This was when we made a comment to our waiter about our slow service. The waiter snippetly replied with "I don't work in the kitchen"; but he did offer us free mocktails. We happily took him up on that offer and ordered mocktails. (I wonder how many other customers commented on the slow service since he was a bit snippy. However, I can still forgive him because he did try with the free mocktails.)9:17 pm: Fourth course, Million Dollar Rice Bowl. Good, but very small portion.9:35 pm: Mocktail (I'm not sure why the mocktails took this long to make.)9:41 pm: Fifth course, Ruffles Sour Cream and Cheddar Ice Cream. Surprisingly, very pleasant.9:52 pm: Check arrivesI wasn't expecting to have dinner over 3 hours. Again, the restaurant wasn't packed. The portions were too small. I left still feeling hungry. Unfortunately, I will not return.
Be the first to ReplyI came here for Restaurant Week dinner.
I wasn't impressed by the food. The first course steelhead trout was so hard. I was expecting the rice to be soft, but it was as hard as grocery store sushi. The second course the study of radish was okay. I was expecting something on the plate to be spicy, but nothing was spicy at all. Also, the butter at the bottom of the dish did NOTHING for the dish. It was a waste of butter. I would have preferred it without. For the 3rd course, I had the prime rib pierogi and the meat inside was fine itself, but the pierogi was a bit hard. I expected a soft pillow/dumpling like pierogi. Some parts of the dish were SO SALTY. I think it was the sauce on top? I'm not quite sure. The 4th course was also SOOO salty. The grilled ribeye was perfectly cooked, but the saltiness of the golumpki was overpowering. Why so much salt?! Lastly, I had the ruffles sour cream and cheddar ice cream which was okay. It was interesting. I added the polanco sterlet as well to it.Service was good and the music was great.

We got the ribs supper club - great flavor and near fall-off-the-bone. Their onion rings and cheese curds were out of this world. Also try their cocktails- everything we had was fantastic. Can't wait to go back!

DO IT! What a fabulous neighbourhood spot that goes under the radar. We weren't huge caviar fans so stuck to oysters, trout, herring and the spring entrees. What a delight. The pickled herring and smoked trout (never found these elsewhere in Chicago) were exceptional. The cooking throughout was excellent, the service friendly and professional and also delightful desserts (get the olive oil cake). Don't expect Michelin level service or style, this is just on point seasoning, cocktails, cooking and a notch above 75% of restaurants in the west town / wicker area

What a welcoming magical spot! Whether you are looking for weeknight comfort food in the form of amazing dumplings or freshly made chicharones or a fantastic array of bubbles and caviar, this is the spot! Welcoming hospitality in a chic perfectly executed package it really doesn't get much better. Seriously reasonable considering the times and fabulosity!I can't imagine returning to Chicago and not stopping in!

RESTAURANT WEEK @heritage_chicago Ukrainian Village, ChicagoWe got the restaurant week menu for $55, which comes with 5 courses ! Ben booked it for 9:30pm on @exploretock , super easy to park nearby Biggest highlights were the prime rib pierogi, Korean shortrib aka "galbi" and iron skillet halibut1 course: tuna and Hamachi with tempura seaweed. The tempurad seaweed was interesting, adds an earthy taste to balance the freshness of the fish + some sort of aioli. Comes with a hot honey, and green kimchi that was a really great palette cleanser2nd course : shaved asparagus salad. You can really taste the egg jam and Hollandaise, really creamy against the vinegary shaved white asparagus. The whitefish roe is my fave. Really want to try their roe/caviar tasting for $150 next time!3rd course: prime rib pierogi and duck breast salad. Pierogi was super meaty, filled to the rim of the dumpling casing and fried till crispy. The dough wasnt too heavy and every bite can be paired with their horseradish and sour cream sauce. Duck breast salad had an Asian twist to it. There's cabbage, broccoli, spring onion,. Pickled carrot all in a kimchi vinegrette and maybe a bit of sesame oil? Loved how fresh it was, wish there was a bit more of the smoked duck breast 4the main : short rib galbi and iron skillet halibut. The galbi had a fantastic bite, and the exact Korean galbi marinade I love. Almost the size of my forearm and a pretty thick cut so I had to chew quite a bit . It comes with this fantastic fried spring onion on top of a bone marrow flan which I didn't particularly enjoy. Overall a great dish. Halibut was awesome - super crispy skin and "fall off the bone" meat. Comes with pimento grits & a white truffle lobster sauce. If you love seafood & creaminess, you'd love this5Dessert: black forest cake and lemon curd tart. The biggest highlight of the dessert was the ice cream . It comes with a salted triple chocolate ice cream for the lemon tart, and a white chocolate ginger ice cream for the black forest cake. Really smooth, creamy , and great depth in flavors. Otherwise the tart and cake was slightly dryMore on @midwestmunching on Instagram

We were here for restaurant week and found the quality and quantity of food to be superb. It was inventive and well prepared. Any time we had a question or comment, we received a well thought out explanation, and once an extra course to satisfy our inquisitive nature. The service was prompt and more than polite. Those guys like working here. We shall return!

I went to Heritage for happy hour recently and had a great time. They offer discounted wine- during my visit they had three kinds on special- red, white, and a sparkling rose, as well as beer. They have $1 oysters that come with untraditional yet delicious toppings. We also tried to egg roll, which was huge for $5. It had seafood and duck, and had a ton of flavor. I can't wait to come back!

We came here for brunch, and the food was exceptional! The cherry on top was the service- we had a couple servers who were both knowledgeable, very friendly, and made our dine-in experience that of 5 stars. PUT CAVIAR ON EVERYTHING! Trust me. The Eggs on Eggs were so good. Who knew eggs, caviar, and kimchi went together? Fire. The duck confit biscuits and gravy were a flavor explosion. That gravy~I was a little disappointed to see that the limited seating tables weren't all booked for brunch. Let's all support this GEM of a restaurant in our city so we don't ever have to worry about losing such a great place.

This review just concerns the drinks / food for the ย the Happy Hour. The drinks are a good deal and the rose brut I had was really refreshing. The oysters are good for the price but not amazing. I also got the duck confit egg roll for $5 which was a decent size but I felt like it had too much going on. It had an outer mustard sauce which worked well, but the sauce within the egg roll was very barbecue-y and overwhelmed everything else. I will say the staff was very attentive and fairly quick so the three stars is just for the food. I don't think I'd go here for the food outside of happy hour. That said, it is the pandemic and I've noticed that food quality has understandable been down across most restaurants I've been to.

Sweet HH deals along with daily specials & I've been here 3x! From 4 PM - 6 PM is when the Happy Hour deal is happening. I probably had almost everything on the HH menu. Them - Chicharrons, paddlefish roe + the beer of the day which a sweet deal and I always gotten it on my visit. The chicharron is a good snack item while waiting for the main meal to come.Oysters - They are $1 during HH & we always end up getting 2 dozen. They shuck them at the bar for youHeritage Steak Burger - This is so bomb! I believe it won some award & I can see why. It is one of the best burger I've had in a long while. The flavor is point on and I actually want to get on my next visit. ย On our visit Tuesday it was wine & pizza for $22 quite a steal. So expect to have an adventure with this place.
