To begin, let me say that we had an excellent time here. It was a lot of fun and the overall experience was entertaining. We had a 9:30 reservation on a Friday, which seemed like the perfect time to arrive. It's a good restaurant-club atmosphere and a fun place to go with a group of friends who want to have a few drinks and enjoy the music - but, most certainly, at a price. To start, there were a few very positive things about our experience. First, our server was excellent. She was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and the dishes to a very detailed level. She was funny, mostly attentive and a general pleasure all around. In fact, everyone we encountered at the restaurant was extremely friendly and helpful. And when a few minor things went wrong, they were always genuinely concerned with fixing them. Second, the music and the DJ were excellent. Music is the core of this experience and the guy who they had spinning that night had an amazing mix and knew how to work the crowd. From an entertainment perspective, it was a lot of fun and a very unique experience. Third, I give them a thumbs up for having a very interesting and varied menu. There are certainly some unique dishes here and I appreciate that vegetables get as much billing as the meats do.That being said, I have to address the elephant in the room: the quality to value equation. Let me say that I am very, very far from being price sensitive, especially at restaurants. However, I do expect the level of food quality to come to close to what you're paying, and here, they fell short. At the end of the day, you are essentially paying what you would pay at a two or three Michelin star restaurant and the food at HaSalon just isn't to that level. Some portions were tiny for the price, while others were more generous. The food was generally fresh and tasty, but many dishes fell short. A $25 potato salad had a few mini potato halves. The massive $100 lamb shank lacked a lot of flavor and was in desperate need of salt - and a vegetable accompaniment more interesting than bland turnips. A grilled $65 corvina had a tasty skin but was cooked very dry. Four (or maybe six) anchovy filets in olive oil were $26 but certainly were not high quality boquerones, as we were led to believe. We had about 12 dishes and nothing wowed us. The space itself doesn't seem to fit the vibe. If you were here when it was the Lobster Bar & Sea Grill, you'll see they really did not transform the space and it still has that nautical vibe with the white tiles and nautical lights. This is very much unlike their transformations at their Miami Carbone and Dirty French locations, which feel special and on-theme. The back of the restaurant is awkwardly blocked off by a set of potted plants, where there was previously seating at the former restaurants.Lastly I must mention that, although we enjoyed the overall service, they need to SERIOUSLY work on their speed at the bar. 30 minutes to get a cocktail isn't acceptable at a place like this and, as the night went on, the waits got longer and longer. Is it a good experience? It most definitely is. But it falls behind the level of many of the other Major Food Group restaurants and you're paying a premium for to eat here. Should you go? Yes, I think you'll have a good time. But I think once was enough and we probably won't be going back.
