Gunpowder London Reviews from The Last Year
Exquisite Indian Dining Experience
From start to finish, the experience was nothing short of exceptional. The food was simply outstanding. Each dish was a symphony of flavors, perfectly balanced and incredibly delicious. The spices were authentic and the ingredients fresh, creating a truly memorable culinary experience. I particularly enjoyed the Okra fries, the Saag with Paneer and the Grilled Prawns, all were cooked to perfection. The service was equally impressive. The staff were attentive and courteous, always ready to accommodate our needs with a smile. In terms of price, the restaurant offers excellent value for money. The portions were generous, and the quality of the food was well worth the price. Overall, I would not hesitate to dine here again. The combination of exquisite food, outstanding service, and great value makes this restaurant a must-visit. Highly recommended!

The original Gunpowder where it all began! The food was incredible! The venison donut, soft shell crab and the aubergine and crispy kale salad were amazing. Small location so be ready for a wait. It was well worth the long wait though. Service was on point. Big fan!

This place was highly recommended and it lived up to its standard. The ambiance was astonishing. I made a reservation on Thursday for Saturday at 6:30 pm. Making reservations was easy. We trickled in a bit early the staff were friendly and they were able to seat us quickly. I ordered the gunpowder chaat, egg curry masala, white rice, and kerala beef pepper fry. The food was flavorful it was a good mix of different flavors and spices. The plates are shareable, so we definitely had the right amount of food for two people with a moderate appetite. I ordered a margarita and I was very impressed. My favorite was the gunpowder chaat. When in London, I'll definitely come back and try the other half of the menu. By the way, Dress casual, perfect for a date night in SoHo!
Fantastic dining experience
Fantastic dining experience, choice of small plates tapas style and sharing platters. Delicious alternative to traditional Indian meal.

Loved this little place off Commercial St in Whitechapel/Spitalfields. TINY place and there were six of us, so was possibly a no go, but they figured out how to make it work. Was totally worth it. Would call this elevated Indian fare with a contemporary flare. Intentionally use "flare" because some of the dishes are fun and a bit of a surprise, but nothing that jumps the shark. To be honest, some of these dishes were more inventive, more flavorful, and better presented than some of the "high-end" Indian places in town (ahem, Kanishka). Half of us were vegetarian, so we mostly ordered veggie dishes. I am not a vegetarian but would have been 100% satisfied with just those dishes. Kale, aubergine and goat cheese salad - so good we ordered a second batch. Mustard broccoli, egg curry, okra fries, masala dosa - all generous portions and thoroughly satisfying. We also had the softshell crab, sea bass, and venison "doughnut" - it was more like a scotch egg, with an spicy chutney that was oh so good. They dont serve bread, but rice was good and also highly recommend the raita, which was almost like a labneh - think and tangy and a great compliment to some of the spicy dishes. Nice selection of beers and wines by the glass that compliment the food. A highlight of this trip to London - will definitely be back.
Book. Visit. Eat. You won’t regret it
Such beautiful food, amazing atmosphere and the friendliest staff I think I’ve ever met. Whilst only a small venue, it really works. Trust the staff’s recommendations.

Was here 15 minutes after they opened and with 2 persons already seated they wanted to put us on hold for 90 minutes. It was recommended by a friend who travels frequently and I did not want to "name drop" as it is only slightly more rude than not providing us a table.
Most delicious Indian, ever!
We had a superb lunch - the food, especially the masala, was absolutely delicious! Patrycja was most cheerful, helpful and friendly in serving us. We’ll definitely return!
Great food & service in this very intimate restaurant
Had a fantastic evening at this quirky little restaurant The food was fabulous. The staff were extremely helpful & attentive. Conceptually a great twist on the curry theme. Will definitely return
Gunpowder had been on my list for London for a while.
This review is for their Greek Street location. We decided to grab dinner here before going to an event at Soho House as it was around the corner. It's a small space but lively. We were seated exactly at the time of our reservation. We made same day reservations just hours before on a Saturday night. We ordered the "Festive Vegetarian Feast" which included: Gunpowder Chaat. Norfolk. Potatoes (Cannot go wrong with this chaat, delicious!) Kale, Bhuna Aubergine with Goat Cheese Salad ( I would pass on this if we had the option, fried kale was good & unique but nothing really held the salad together) Bengali Beet Root Croquettes (these were a favorite, texture and flavor 5/5) Grilled Artichoke Heart in Red Pepper Masala (THIS was the combination I never knew I needed in my life. Grilled artichoke hearts and masala made a unique combination) Mustard Malai Broccoli ( Roasted broccoli with a malai curry, I also never thought this combo would go great together until we tried it) Egg Curry Masala (Delicious, however a bit too spicy for my palate) Saag with Tandoori Paneer (Thick pieces of tandoori paneer over a bed of classic saag) Steamed Rice (perfectly cooked basmati rice) We wrapped up with the Triple Chocolate Brownie with Ice Cream and coffee. This was a LOT of food for 2 people but we wanted to try all the different items. Service was great. They even brought a candle out with the cake as we celebrated a graduation dinner. Would definitely come back next time I'm in London!
Extraordinary Venison Donut!
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. The menu was straightforward and we weee spoilt for choice. The staff provided us with helpful information. The shot bomb started was a delight, and although every dish was lovely, the venison donut deserves special mention. Quite extraordinary. Great wines by the glass and an excellent cocktail too.
Super tasty Indian food
We live nearby and this was our 3rd visit to the Gunpowder. It’s really tasty Indian food, promptly served, in a cozy atmosphere. We had a French friend across and he was also enraptured. Special mention to the seabass, the pork ribs, the okra fries, and many others. We had a delicious dinner.
Good wine
We went for a very early dinner. Food is really nice, good wine and very friendly people around. For sure we will be back. Almost forgot about a dessert, bread and butter is a must.
The best Indian food I have.
Must try their lamb and shrimps. May need reservations because the place is small and we got lucky for walk in
Fantastic Indian Tapas
Really loved our visit. Lots of places say they are doing Indian tapas then disappoint! Gunpowder certainly didn’t - even made broccoli exciting. Recommend you book as packed on a Tuesday evening. 😀

Gunpowder is a cozy, little Indian restaurant around Spital Fields. It's so unassuming, you'd never know they were serving such delicious food! I had the Egg Curry Masala and Spicy Venison and Vermicelli Donut. And the bread pudding for dessert was the best part! We also came in 20 minutes before the kitchen closed and still got friendly, attentive (quick) service!
Modern Indian in intimate cosy setting ..
Walk in on Saturday night and pleased to get a seat…. Didn’t know what to expect but menu looked interesting, if not familiar. Staff very attentive and explained the menu items. They recommended around 5 items (like tapas menu) but since we were not hungry chose 3. Venison Doughnut. Potato chaat and mustard broccoli and 2 glasses of their house Portuguese red. It was all delicious and very different from my normal Indian food. Venison was the best ! Very nice visit and will return with an appetite next time
A delightfully intimate restaurant serving Indian-inspired
A delightfully intimate restaurant serving Indian-inspired cuisine and certainly a contender for one of the best Indian restaurants in London. Between the two of us, we ordered four Small Plates and one Sharing Plate. All dishes contained amazing flavor and spice, with exceptional highlights including the Gunpowder Chaat and the Seabass Paturi Maach (steamed mustard fish). Service is quite attentive and friendly here - the space is small anyway, with the restaurant seating a maximum of 20 people. It can get pretty cozy, so perhaps not a suitable place for groups of more than 4, but a wonderful spot for date night.
Small portions limited lunch menu
The lunch menu is fairly priced 22£ for two courses. The tandoori chicken chop was very small . The okra fries were reasonable. Main dish- strips of beef in a curry sauce was a decent portion . A bowl of white rice was included . The waiter was not customer friendly and unusual for such a restaurant did not replace the plates and cutlery - why should I eat curry beef on a plate with tandoori sauce ? Ate many Indian restaurants and this one has a very limited menu plus wooden stools uncomfortable .

Is this an appointment for a leather appointment at the Hermes Store? And if so, how do they switch the appointment to my name?
