Granary Tavern Boston Reviews from The Last Year

This is a gastropub right next to the aquarium, which is super convenient if you plan to visit the aquarium. The fish & chips is a bit pricey but they do give you large portions so that helps. The shrimp was also good but there is a big upcharge when you add it to the salads (+12 dollars). The mussels were okay and the breakfast nachos were good. Overall, a good place to check out if you're in the mood for seafood.

This place is great! Good pricing, delicious sandwiches, and yummy fries! You know a place is serving with quality care if their fries are good! And their fries are good! They are a light golden brown fry but the taste and light crunch is amazing!
Very good place for dinner in a convenient location right
Very good place for dinner in a convenient location right by the New England Aquarium on Milk St. If you're anything like me, it's a real Bostonian privilege to be able to spend a day at the aquarium and conclude the day with dinner downtown. My girlfriend and I came here for dinner on a Sunday around 5PM. Right off the bat, I noticed that the restaurant is clean and elegant, and that the host was very friendly. Very good vibes right off the bat. I asked for a table by an outlet so I could charge my phone, and the host was very accommodating and went to go check if they had one available. We were seated, and I was happy that I could charge my phone while dining. We ordered Shirley Temples as our drink and two entrees for dinner. The Shirleys were very good, had a perfect amount of grenadine, and were aesthetically pleasing. For my entree, I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich which came with fries. It was very good and I enjoyed having ciabatta bread as the vessel. It was jam packed with bacon, chipotle mayo, and avocado. The fries were also very tasty, with the right amount of salt and a perfect cut (not too thin, not too thick, but juuuuust right!). My girlfriend ordered the Thai salad which she got as a half portion with additional grilled chicken. It was very good, but a bit on the sweeter side with the ingridients and dressing. It also came with noodles which were a good addition. In short, the food was very delicious, but the service was a bit on the slower side despite the restaurant not being crowded at all. We had to wait a while between ordering, getting our food, and getting the bill. However, the staff was very friendly and accommodating, so I give them five stars. This will now be my go-to place when I visit the wharf. Good job Granary!
Granary is conveniently located steps away from the
Granary is conveniently located steps away from the aquarium, and it was a great stop for my girlfriend and I after our afternoon there. We came in shortly after 5, and it wasn't terribly crowded yet. We were seated pretty promptly, but otherwise the service was slower than expected given the amount of customers at the time. However, the employees were so polite and that really made up for it. We were in a slightly less crowded area of the restaurant and had a great view of downtown. I ordered the thai salad and added chicken, and it was good! I would have preferred the noodles warm instead of cold, but that's just personal preference - when my girlfriend tried them, she liked them exactly how they were. It was on the sweeter side, but still good! I would definitely order this again on a warm day in the spring or summer. My girlfriend ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and fries and that was delicious from what I tried. The fries were perfectly crispy and I liked the chipotle mayo! We also ordered shirley temples which were flavorful and had a great soda-grenadine ratio. Overall, a great stop downtown/near the aquarium for lunch or dinner!
My family and I saw the menu posted and thought great
My family and I saw the menu posted and thought great prices for kids meals so we decided to give it a try. It was a busy Saturday evening being St. Patrick's Day weekend. The hostess told us about 30 minutes which was ok since the manager saw us and said we could go downstairs to grab a drink at the bar and sit on the sofa and chairs there. We were there no more than five minutes when an INCREDIBLY RUDE hostess walked over and told us we couldn't sit there. We tried to tell her we were told we could but she didn't care and said it was reserved for "people" (not ONE person sat there after we were kicked out). My husband wanted to leave because of the rude hostess but our table was ready early so we decided to stay. I'm glad we did because the food was great! I did speak to the manager (who had invited us to sit downstairs) and the GM and told them our experience who apologized and said if we had mentioned it before we ate, they would have offered us an appetizer on the house but we honestly didn't need one nor did we expect any freebies, we just wanted to be heard how we were treated.
Not gonna lie this place is a cool little hub.
First place as a tourist hearing the Bostonian accent. I went here with my coworkers during Valentine's and it was a good vibe. Ambiance: Old school, rustic. It's a tavern guys. Chill Cozy lights. Food: Lobster rangoons were pricey and okay. like I didn't expect much, but could use more creaminess. Truffle fries were good though! Crispy, salty, with a hint of truffle. Service: Awesome. We were complicated when it comes to payment , but the waitress knew what to do . A nice chill place to hang out for drinks!
Visited 2/3/24.
One mouse turned out to be three mice running around the dining room. Many reviews on yelp and google mentioning the same thing. Food is expensive for bland, not notable taste. Rodents are a deal breaker. We will not be returning.
lobster rolls were awesome! our server was super nice but
lobster rolls were awesome! our server was super nice but the food came out before the drinks so we were a little confused. we were there for lunch so it was nice and quiet before we hit the aquarium. we enjoyed it a lot but it was a bit pricey for what we got
Rude bartender and very expensive drinks
Rude bartender and ridiculously expensive drinks. We ordered expresso martinis and the bartender asked if we wanted Baileys we said yes. Another friend ordered an expresso martini with tequila rather than vodka. When the bill came we were charged $10 extra for each martini w/Baileys. We didn’t get a shot she poured a little splash in the glass. And my friend was charged $10 extra for the tequila. When my friend questioned her she said it’s already premixed with vodka so she couldn’t make it with just tequila. When asked why she didn’t tell her that before she became very rude. So we left and will not return.
Sat outside because it was nice outside and inside was so
Sat outside because it was nice outside and inside was so dark. I ordered the avocado corn flatbread which had: 1/4 of an avocado, 10 kernels of corn, and 1 cherry tomato. It was 90% cheese, which was listed as the last ingredient, which usually means it's the least used item....service did not bring us a bottle of water (which others had) and out table saw no employees for long enough (our mini glasses were empty) that we had to go inside and find someone. Our server was only seen to take our orders and bring the check. Water and food were brought by others.
Service and ambiance was excellent.
We tried a handful of items on the menu that were all great and were very pleased with how quick the food came out!

On the day we visited, brunch was still being served at 2 which was perfect. All 3 of our meals were delicious. I had the overnight oats - very hearty and filling. We had a couple of cocktails which were tasty and well crafted. The prices were average for being in a more tourist-y part of the city. Our service was good and the view from the window was quite nice. A for ambience! Worth noting: the door under the The Granary sign was not the correct entry way. Gotta go to the next door down if you want to get in.
While touristing, I checked Yelp and found this downtown
While touristing, I checked Yelp and found this downtown Boston gem. Absolutely a five star experience! Outstanding service, an outside table with a great view, and exceptional seafood, oh and craft beers . This is on my "repeater" list on our next visit to Boston. You'll not be disappointed.
A casually-stylish tavern with tasty foods
Attended a private event in the lower level. Located in a former historic grain mill, I knew I was in for a treat. Two floors and two bars give GT a warm and welcoming environment. We were on the lower level for a private event. Service and foods were done right. The tuna poke and coconut crusted shrimp appetizers were quite tasty.
food was excellent and came out insanely fast! awesome
food was excellent and came out insanely fast! awesome service! Great lighting and vibe too!
Stopped in here for lunch on a trip to Boston.
Service at the bar was friendly and fast. I was greeted quickly and served a nice cold beer while I decided what to have. I started with the clam chowder and then had the Connecticut style warm lobster roll. They were both excellent, some of the best I've had in the area. The restaurant/bar is great with a cozy feel, tvs and plenty of seating.
Staff needs training
The good thing first… the food was ok. However, upon our first stop in, the hostess told us a 25 minute wait. We counted 14 open tables. Not sure what the problem was there. We made a block or so and checked back in. Upon looking over the menu, ( it was 2:15 pm) we assumed the fact that she gave us a brunch menu must be a mistake. But no, apparently not. We had breakfast 8 hours ago! I had noticed a nacho plate on THEIR sandwich board outside. I planned to order that but had to scramble to find something else when I was told that was the “dinner” menu. Our waiter was fairly prompt with our water and the draft I ordered. However, he never asked about a second round. While eating, we saw numerous parties leave when the hostess told them about a 20-30 minute wait and they could see all the empty ( and clean) tables. Had to ask twice for our check. Dessert never offered. Lots of lost revenue today. If restaurants want to bounce back from COVID, better service is necessary.
Good Food reasonably priced
We stayed at the Harborside Inn, and this place was behind the hotel. It has a brick patio as well as a second floor that is like a wine cellar. It was late in the evening, and we were looking for something lite. My wife order the Greek salad and I ordered the chicken wings and fries. The wings were meaty, and the mild sauce was a good choice. The fries were crispy and not over greasy. My wife reported the Greek salad is excellent. This was a good choice for grabbing something lite and filling.
decent place for a drink
came in for a drink. most of the high-top tables are reserved for food service but managed to get a couple seats at the bar. they have a large outdoor area but it was windy and cold. the bar area is nothing special. dark with no real views outside. service was quick. limited beer selection but found one i liked. large tv is mounted on a side wall so everyone has to sit at 90 degrees to bar to view the tv. with so many better bars in in the area we never returned
