I chose to eat at the bar, and I feel like it should be
I chose to eat at the bar, and I feel like it should be pretty hard to get a 5 at the bar with the pub menu. But Grace does a really nice job. First, Kyle, my bartender. Kind, courteous, and all around pleasant. He really added to the experience. First, the pear martini. So delicious, I had two!! The beet salad, perfectly prepared beets, nice goat cheese, well balanced. Finally, the brisket sandwich. Tender, delicious, really nice bread. Not so delicate (looking at you stupid brioche) that it falls apart with the first bite. At the end of the evening, I was happy and content. What more could you ask for??
Incredible Meal
We had a wonderful graduation dinner with family along with it being Mother’s Day. The Lobster Arancini was a true delight of flavors, the crunchy outside was perfectly cooked. The New York Strip was the amazing the Romanesco sauce with the flavors and textures. Perfect accompaniment to the steak and potatoes. The desserts were incredible but the apple dessert blew us all away. Please ask for Cheryl, she was a true delight and wonderful server who was attentive to our needs. She felt like family and made our dinner a wonderful experience. One of my top favorite dinners!
It's the little things
Showed up early but was greeted with smiles and patience. Waited a few moments as they prepared the table for wife's birthday meal. Were ushered in like royalty. Wife felt like a VIP. (I put on reservation request we were celebrating her birthday.) She felt special during her entire time in the restaurant. Rose was in vase on table. Chef brought out mini donut amuse- bouche with candle for wife. It was such a kind gesture and touched both my wife and me. There are truly kind, thoughtful, special people who live among us and this chef is one of them. She sincerely touched our hearts, satisfied our stomachs and replenished our souls. It was a great experience. The food was delicious. Wife had the blackbranch salad before having a salmon Benedict. Husband had wild mushroom soup before enjoying the breakfast burger. Enjoyed tasting each other's dishes as we often do when food is so well prepared. Service was spot on all meal. We could not have asked for a better brunch experience.
A Precipitous Drop in Quality
We have always said that Grace at the Carnegie Inn is a restaurant that at least approximates the better restaurants in major US cities, including New York. We’ve been going to Grace for special occasions for years now. But, for various reasons we hadn’t been there in a year. And tonight we discovered how a new chef has brought the place to its knees. We were actually horrified by how very bad all courses of our meals were. In a word, our meals were awful. We both started with a Caesar Salad, that was ruined by way too much shredded Parmesan cheese and bitter greens. At there prices you’d expect anchovies, but no. I had also ordered an appetizer that they called “Lobster Arancini” with “crispy risotto,” and “lump claw lobster meat.” What came were three ping pong-sized deep fried balls of bread and cheese, on top of anything but crispy risotto. The risotto was downright soggy and greasy. The dish resembled what you might buy frozen at Costco, formed into a ball, and, trust me, Costco would have discontinued it very quickly. Terrible stuff. The consistency was of soggy, oily-drenched deep fried bread crumbs and an excessive amount of melted cheese. Absolutely no taste of lobster. So I separated and opened up one of the balls and searched it for lobster meat. I found just one very small morsel of lobster meat that was, at the largest maybe a quarter inch by an eighth of an inch, and that was it — for the whole deep fried ball. Plus, the tiny bit of lobster I found was dried-out a tasteless. The rest of the interior was cheesy and bready goo. And the price was $24, or $6 per awful-tasting “lobster” ball. I’ve never in my fairly long life have sent anything back at a restaurant. I’m in no way a picky eater. But I sent that back (and they were very nice about it.) My main course was called “Duck Confit Carbonara.” $52. It consisted of a large plate of pasta that had a nice flavor, but with a few scattered tiny nuggets of crispy duck skin. I found no duck meat, and asked a waiter if he could find some. He took a fork, pushed the noodles around and finally found exactly one small shard of duck meat. The waiter was obviously embarrassed and offered to get me something else’s to replace it. So I asked for what my spouse had ordered; Grilled salmon. Another waiter took away the duck-flavored noodles and brought out the salmon. It was badly over-salted, and at that point that my spouse was unable to eat theirs. I ate mine, together with a lot of water to handle the saltiness because at that point I was really hungry. And the temperature was just right. But, clearly whomever prepared it didn’t know what she or he was doing. Even a short order cook would definitely done better. My spouse managed two bites and left it. Dessert was a raspberry coulee on a puff pastry. The puff pastry swallowed the raspberry and the not quite ripe strawberries. And, while the dessert was the best course, it was not good either. A final negative is not new, but the decor is awful to the point of being painful. Once tasteful and sophisticated, it’s now this discordant cacophony of styles. Edwardian patterned 2x2 wood decorative patterned ceiling, meets early brothel flamboyant. With Swedish Crystal light fixtures, Scottish plaid upholstery, plywood walls unconvincingly stained mahogany, and tufted vinyl wall panels inserts. Our strong advice to the restaurant’s management, while we can stomach the silly decors; First, fire the chef before it;s too late. Seriously, your food quality is now third rate. And then, once that’s done, go back to your calming, classic, tasteful decors, and 86 whomever you mistakenly used as a decorator. I am the least picky eater known to man, but this truly was an awful meal. I mean one of the worst we’ve ever had, start to finish. I’m writing this negative review with the hope that Grace’s management will wake up to what has happened to what was, just a year ago, the regions very best restaurant. It’s now not just less so. It’s awful. Finally, do you underhand that anyone who ties to book a reservation through Resy is told that there is no availability through February and March, until April. Your restaurant was half-empty tonight, and we understand that you are dropping Resy for reservations from next week into the future, and so Resy is artificially showing you as being booked solid for months so people can’t tell that you have empty tables. Reality: You’ve got lots of openings for reservations through this month and next, and your failure to update your website to have your customers to call the restaurant for reservations smacks of incompetence. If somehow this review reaches the owners, you really do need to clean house, at least in my opinion.
A date night worth repeating
Grace was such a lovely meal! We truly felt so well cared for from arrival to our the apple dessert (a must try)! Big thank you to Emily for taking such great care of my wife and I.
Horrible service.
It took 2 hours to get my food and before that 45 mins to get a glass of water. The food was disgusting, toast was burnt with small portions especially for the price that costed too expensive. I will not return and I suggest you don't attend the food is not worth it. The waiters were rude and nasty didn't care about the service.
Amazing dining in the heart of State College
Beautiful back patio filled with flowers overlooking the golf course. Food was a bit pricier than other nearby restaurants but the food was amazing. My filet steak was fork tender, spiced and cooked perfectly. Starters including the tomato bisque soup were the best I've ever tasted. Kudos to the chef for everything but desserts which I didn't care for. Service was kind and attentive. Returned the next evening for another great meal.
Disappointing
The ambience was nice. The staff was friendly and we were all seated promptly. It took a long time for the drinks to arrive, there were no dinner specials. I ordered the clam linguine and the pasta was cold, the clams were microscopic in size, very small portion and the noodles were stuck together. Not their finest hour. The restaurant itself is lovely.
Disappointed
Seated promptly for our reservation. Started OK with service - drink order and questions about menu. Went downhill from there. Drinks took awhile to be delivered. Had to flag someone else after 30 minutes to have bread brought to the table. Caesar salad was disappointing- underwhelmed- actually asked for anchovies on the side - but waitress while delivering them first they normally don’t put anchovies in Caesar salad… then the waiting and waiting for the main entrees. Seated at 8 pm- entrees served at 9:40- and while the filet was like warm which is acceptable for a medium filet- the potatoes were cold as was everything else on the plate. The Pho lacked any taste- very dull dish. In all the times I have been at Graces tonight was a big disappointment- for what they charge I expect better- in service , quality and attentiveness. Do better.

The restaurant is upscale and the prices reflect that, but we had no complaints. We had the oysters, scallops and swordfish, along with a few glasses of wine, a beer and a cocktail. Total came to $200 with 25% tip. The bar is cozy and has an amazing selection of spirits considering how hard it is to even find some of the in Pennsylvania. The cocktails are on point and exceptionally well crafted. You'd be hard pressed to find better drinks in NYC, Boston or Washing DC. Hopefully Kyle is on duty when you visit. We asked for some fairly obscure drinks (Sazerac, Aviation) and he knew them off the top of his head. Another excellent deal at the bar is the charcuterie plate. $24 and plenty of cheese, meats, pickles and olives to fill the two of us.

It was mostly a great experience--the service, the decor, the wine, the appetizers and the dessert was probably going to be great too but we didn't stick around for that. $48 for 4 (yes, four) scallops is ridiculous. Almost as ridiculous was the music--Elvis and other songs from the 50s!? Seriously!?

We often make a stop in State College en route from NY to Michigan but it's later at night. Today we left early in time for dinner & I wanted to take my wife on a date night. Grace looked like a stand alone classy restaurant. It lived up to expectations. The prawns were impressive and large. So good that my wife at off my plate. The salads were light and tasty. We shared the salmon and filet mignon. Our server Adele was spot on and on top of our dinner. Will absolutely be back.

Started with a Cuba Libra then had a Berkshire pork belly appetizer so unbelievably good followed by a charred Caesar salad again, unbelievably good main course was 16 oz bone in rib eye prepared rare. The steak was good a bit on the salty side. Two glasses of decoy limited Cabernet Sauvignon, delicious. I highly recommend going to this fine restaurant. When I return, I will patronize them again!!
Excellent food and wait staff
First off the food is excellent- I've had seafood several times and it has been consistently good. The prices are on the high side and the portions (wine especially) tend to be modest. We will certainly return for dinners, but it won't be our weekly hang out.

Decent drinks. Food was subpar. Chicken was dry as a bone and the steaks were all over the place. Priced like. 4-5 star for a 2 star meal

An exceptionally wonderful and memorable experience at Grace Restaurant at Carnegie. We celebrated our wedding anniversary with a special, romantic evening of wining and dining and could not have been happier. Friendly, professional, attentive staff; beautiful decor with lovely lighting including multiple fireplaces to enhance the already lovely ambiance. Expect higher end pricing for exquisite beverages and cuisine. Huge wine selection. We ordered a bottle of Bread and Butter, Cali white at a reasonable price and it was a delicious accompaniment to our meal. (Cauliflower steak was a tad spicy for my liking but that was my only complaint) Kudos to the owners, bartenders, kitchen and pastry chefs! Such beautiful presentations and delicacies made for a lovely evening! Highly recommend from a foodie traveler.
Avoid this restaurant if you want a fine dining experience
This restaurant advertises itself as fine dining, which it is not. 5 of us were seated at a table so wide you couldn’t hear each other. The menu did not reflect what was on their website. The portions were tiny. Asking for any substitutions such as potatoes was painful. There is a new chef and the food was salty and overcooked.

.. bread basket very tasty ... pork belly appetizer not so much (probably spoiled by the amazing pork belly at my favorite Chinese Restaurant back home!) ... main course: scallops were excellent ... ... dessert was very good but coffee was subpar (side note: I come from the SF Bay Area where exceptional coffee is standard at almost every restaurant ... not sure why so many restaurants "back East" have such bad coffee ... especially when there are great roasters popping up almost everywhere!) ... ambiance was top notch, as was the service ... all in all a very pleasant meal ...
Disappointing Food
I was excited to stay at the Carnegie house upon hearing rumors of a new chef. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. The food was a bit greasy and flavorless — far from luxurious. Breakfast the next morning was tasty; it almost made up for dinner. I would not recommend Grace restaurant to a friend.
Had a graduation celebration of 13 people.
Our fabulous server Alanna made it look as simple as a 2 top. Food was excellent. Decor is gorgeous. Music classical pops made a perfect backdrop Had after dinner drinks around the outside fireplace and the chef made a gluten free bun for one guest without our asking when the servers said one guest was gluten free. Can I give it 7 stars ???

2.) A Community User Picks Up the Bid
* ImmortalStep65, an experienced AT user, has a strong track record of successfully securing reservations and low refund requests, they receive a notification about Peter's bid.
* ImmortalStep65 picks up the bid, meaning they will now work on securing the reservation.
* Peter can now talk to ImmortalStep65 for any questions Peter may have as ImmortalStep65 user fills the bid.
3.) Finding the Reservation
* ImmortalStep65 now uses their connections at Grace Restaurant State College to secure the table.
* If they successfully get the 6 PM table for four, Peter receives a confirmation that the reservation has been secured.
* If ImmortalStep65 fails to secure the reservation, the bid is returned to the pool so another user can try.
4.) Payment & Protection
* Once the reservation is secured, ImmortalStep65 receives the $200 reward which is credited to ImmortalStep65's AT balance, where users manage their own funds and can withdraw via available payout options such as bank transfer, PayPal, or Zelle.
