Giro Giro Hitoshina Kyoto Reviews from The Last Year
Great dinner & experience!
This was an exceptional meal and experience. Just simply enjoyed everything about it. The food was incredible. Highly recommended.
Interesting food but a stressful experience.
We were a company of six people having a dinner at Giro Giro Hitoshina, December 24th. Overall the food was good - some dishes more delicious and some less. Unfortunately, the serving was really chaotic and our experience was disturbed by rushed and unorganised watering. The dishes was served in a hurry and whilst half of the table still was eating the previous curse. The plates and drinks were handed out to be passed on by us, ourself. Overall, we had the feeling of having to finish quickly and it was not a sense of taking our time to taste the food and enjoying the moment. The atmosphere didn't do the food the right.
Excellent Japanese Kaseiki Style
It's probably the best meal I've had in Japan. Giro Giro (why they call it Guilo Guilo, I have no idea) Hitoshina is a wonderful modern kaseiki style Japanese restaurant. The food is sublime and delicious. So much so that we didn't care that we had no idea what we were eating: we had such trust in the chef. Book early, book the counter so you can watch the chefs
An unfortunate Kaiseki experience
We book ahead after following recommendations from a website I've forgotten the name of. We had high hopes for a modern Kaiseki meal after experiencing a traditional one at a Ryokan a few days prior. I want to try and explain why I've given it 2 stars. We arrived and were seated upstairs away from the downstairs counter which looked a bit more fun and interactive. That's my fault, I did request it. The waiting staff seemed stressed and it was reflected in the presentation and explanation of each dish. This was very important for us as my wife is pregnant so we expected there to be certain things she wouldn't be able to eat. The beef entre was lovely and the tuna sashimi was also fresh and high quality. The mackerel was also crispy skinned and tasty. Fried aubergine in a green soup (can't be more descriptive than that) was also refreshing. However, the fried lotus root was bland. The Kaiseki selection included scrambled egg with grape (odd) but a few other morsels I'd love to describe but were presented without a description. A chestnut fried rice surrounded with crispy fish skin was also very unusual, but not unpleasant. The ice cream trio finale had melted but consisted of apple (tasty but chunky), black tea (no business being an ice cream) and a final green flavour we guessed was matcha but honestly, no idea. Overall a poor meal and service, but with a few nice courses in between. And cold beer.
A modern and delicious experience in Kyoto
Unfortunately, we couldn't make any more reservations online, as we were only in Kyoto for two days. But by chance, during our walk through the city, we passed the very eye-catching glass-front restaurant of Edakuni Eiich. Without further ado, we decided to try for a reservation. Mr. Edakuni Eiich said that he was booked out for the same evening but could offer us a table upstairs, on the first floor, for tomorrow evening. We were very much looking forward to this evening and were happy about this positive promise. Arriving shortly before 8 p.m., we were invited upstairs and began our culinary experience at Giro Giro Hitoshima. After the second course, we got seats offered on the ground floor bar and were overjoyed to watch the chefs and assistants at work. The relaxed style and appreciative interaction with the staff were pleasing and showed us that we were in the right place. After a total of eight courses, our dinner was over, which we enjoyed to the full. We had an incomparable experience and recommend it as a culinary highlight in Kyoto.
First rude Japanese met in my life
I think I found here the first rude Japanese of my life. The bold chef was extremely rude. Moreover, on the 8 dishes, 3 were very good, 2 were not good, 3 were very very bad (especially the seaweed pudding). The only positive thing was the very gentle french speaking guy. Never again
Very bad experience
Unfortunately we’ve had a very bad experience. It took one hour for them to serve us. The food was awful and not well prepared. It was expensive also. The only thing was the goodwill of the servants from Nepal that, by the way did not speak a good English

Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.

When it says working on bid, it means there are people looking to fill it.
