Gillray's Steakhouse & Bar London Reviews from The Last Year
The food was just ok.
We paid alot of money and the steak was not prepared to standard. There was no lobster and that was a downside but we still wanted to stay to try out the steak. We could have done better and so could the Chef. Funny thing is that I sliced the steak so it could be prepared well done and he still sent it back medium rare. Waitstaff still had a service charge of over 30 pounds. It's all good but at least we know for next time.
Boy did we need to stop and chill out.
.. London is a huge yet vastly walkable city and luckily everywhere you turn, you'll find a pub or bar where one might find some respite and refreshment and history. While meandering the South End, we stopped in to Gillray's Bar which is located in the historic London's County Hall - a massive building. A museum in its own right, one you can enjoy between coming in, and leaving Gillray's! The Bar is perfectly situated to view the Thames, the Eye, Big Ben, Parliament and almost everything on and across the river. Expansive windows, comfortable loungers, nice servers and a great selection of well, just about anything you'd like to embibe! The service and atmosphere are British Elegant Casual and the prices moderate. If your journey in London takes you to the South End, once over the bridge, this is a great stop for more than just a respite.
Awful food and the worst service.
They gave us old dry fruit for breakfast, cold stiff waffles and the omelet was dry and not fresh. We also had to get up and get our own juice since our racist waiter only checked on the white guests while he ignored us the whole time. I noticed he was very unfriendly to only the BLACK guests. He was very hospitable and friendly/talkative to only the white people. We spoke to the manager who seem concerned and was kind but only made excuses for the waiters bad behavior by saying he has been fine with other people of color. Maybe he just doesn't like black women and refuses to serve them. Plus, we were speaking of his behavior on this day, not other days. We only ate here because we were staying at the hotel attached to the restaurant. Believe all the bad reviews because they are true. I wouldn't recommend this place at all.
Service was awful! Tables were wide open and they told me
Service was awful! Tables were wide open and they told me it would be an hour. Then the food took equally as long. I asked for the manager and she did not apologize. While a guest of the hotel, it is unfortunate to has this poor of a restaurant in such a prime area. London has plenty of higher quality places in terms of service and ambiance. Food was mediocre at best. Would not come back.
Ambiance was fantastic.
Tired of walking? This is an excellent place to chill out by the London Eye. The staff were attentive. Reason for 3 stars? The food needs to be revamped. The quality and taste do not match the ambiance. The £15 steak and chips (advertised by the window that caught our attention) was not worth it. Even if it's a cheap kind of steak, excellent chefs can be innovative. The lobster was ok but could have been better with melted butter. Overall, the food was bland and presentation was done poorly. Hope management will take this review seriously. The restaurant is in a good location. The name of the restaurant was not conspicuous enough to grab attention. The £15 steak and fries sign caught our attention but cheap food does not have to be prepared and cooked fairly.
We tucked in here at the bar while waiting for the other
We tucked in here at the bar while waiting for the other people in our group to ride the London Eye. Which I had very much wanted to do, but was out of life energy points. This lovely swank bar/lounge was EXACTLY what I needed. It was fully restorative. When the rest of our group got off the Eye they also got restored with some food and drinks. It is definitely family friendly. There were some other parents with small kids in there as well. I do imagine they were probably staying at the hotel. Props to them!! I think if we come to London with young kids again we will look into staying at the attached Marriott. The servers were amazing as well. They let us chill and were also readily available when we needed something. The perfect balance, which can be hard to find.

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
