Giardino Restaurant Vancouver Reviews
Bravo!
Once again, a superb dining experience: attitude, service, food … all excellent. The patio is a wonderful atmosphere. Bravo!
Lovely ambiance, highly recommend sitting in the patio
Lovely ambiance, highly recommend sitting in the patio garden. Food was delicious, particularly the burrata. Would go for a special occasion only though as it is quite pricey. Service was great too.
Food was delicious.
Service was amazing and upbeat, and as always so accommodating. And of course the interiors and exteriors ensure a glamorous experience. This is not a place for tacky clothes. Even the men usually wear a blazer and/or suit to jacket Front desk staff greet customers - old and new, warmly and efficiently being organized at all times. One cannot name any individual staff for being outstanding. They all are. Everyone of them is knowledgeable, fun and work hard to make dining with them a memorable experience! Of course Bobby - maitre'd is superb and knows the world cause he has fed most of them!
Some restaurants meet your expectations and some fall below
Some restaurants meet your expectations and some fall below your expectations. Giadino's blew our expectations out of the water!!! I truly cannot put into words just how amazing our night was there. The food was top notch. We had the branzino and the veal which were both specials! They were both top notch. If you eat here do yourself a favor and book a seat at the bar. If Andrew is working count yourself lucky as he is an amazing server who goes above and beyond! The restaurants decor is beautiful and you can tell they have a loyal clientele! If Umberto the owner is working, well just count yourself as blessed as he is one amazing human being! Our night there was truly one we will never forget!
Great food, excellent service
The restaurant was near our Air B&B, so we stopped by for dinner. It was the first meal for our vacation and one of the best. We were not made to feel out of place at all for being dressed a bit more casually than most patrons. The service was truly excellent. If we're ever in Vancouver again, we are going go back.
Brilliant Italian Food in Vancouver.
The service was extraordinarily good. The restaurant was very busy on a Friday evening but the very attentive general manager made sure everything was properly synchronised. Not only was the service excellent but the food was delicious.
Superb service, absolutely delicious food, and a wonderful
Superb service, absolutely delicious food, and a wonderful ambience. Definitely going back, I have got to have that veal again.
The best meal I had in Vancouver.
The place was very nice, but kind of casual. Not too pretentious. I ate at the bar, and the server/bartender was very chatty and nice. The owner Umberto stopped by the bar with a half pizza that he shared with everyone at the bar. We then chatted and he wanted to show me a special dessert wine that is enjoyed during Christmas. Then he showed me one of his cook books and went through every picture telling me stories. He had some biscotti brought out to dip in the wine. Then he had a bottle opened of red wine from his vineyard. A truly unique experience that I will treasure. I ordered the book.
A coworker recommended Giardino's as one of the best
A coworker recommended Giardino's as one of the best Italian restaurants in Vancouver. When a friend came to town on business, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to try it. We have a tradition of going out for Italian food in every city we visit. We had a 5:45 reservation and were seated early. The dining room was styled to feel upscale, but the heavy décor felt a bit outdated. Service started off well. We ordered drinks and the antipasti appetizer, which turned out to be the best part of the meal. The house-made cracker bread was especially good. As the evening went on, the restaurant filled up and got much louder. The table next to us was especially loud and crude, which took away from the overall dining experience and made conversation difficult. I ordered the lasagna because I had heard good things about it. Unfortunately, it did not live up to the reputation. It lacked seasoning, and the noodles were overcooked and mushy. At $30, I expected much better. I would rate it 2.5 out of 5. For dessert, we had the crème brûlée. While the presentation was nice, the custard was slightly grainy and almost separated. It was not the velvety smooth texture you hope for in a good brûlée. Overall, the food presentation was beautiful, but the taste and quality did not match the setting or the price. The appetizer and cracker bread were the only standouts. We dined on a Wednesday and still found the atmosphere to be loud and chaotic. For the price and the experience, I would recommend looking for a different Italian spot in Vancouver.
Food was excellent! Atmosphere was okay.
Staff was difficult to get a hold of and forgot itemsLimited menu. It was overall a positive experience. A friend had wanted to go here for a while so we went.
The staff are delightful and talented - none more than
The staff are delightful and talented - none more than Petra (who came from Le Crocodile) - and there is always a seasoned staff on hand who handle everything professionally. The food, however, is not on par with other restaurants with which Giardino compares itself. For example, this is the second time I have ordered the loin of venison rare and it has arrived overdone. The pasta dishes, frankly, don't compare with other Italian restaurants in Vancouver. We miss the old Il Giardino which never held itself out as being a top end Italian restaurant but with Umberto's oversight and touch always delivered a dining experience which left everyone satisfied and wanting to return. My wife and I have no doubt many Vancouverites who are familiar with the old "Giardino" would agree. Respectfully, David & Sandy
I'll let you in on a little secret of mine.
.. I have a slight crush on this place. It treats me like a lady should be treated and always wines & dines me. Literally. I've been here before a few times, but instead of paying attention to details reviewing demands, I enjoyed the moment instead of making mental notes. I mean what is there to say? Giardino is the Rolls Royce of Italian Fine Dining. The standard is high on every level, and I mean every level you can think of. The Environment. The Service. The Food. Every Level. I don't want to give away too much here, because I want you to go and be unexpectedly pleasantly surprised as I was. The Food: I don't eat Lasagna just anywhere. Stellar Lasagna is very hard to make. It takes patience, attention and of course the right ingredient ratio to preparation. Considering I enjoyed all their other dishes the previous times, I decided to give it a whirl with their Lasagna dish. Between the Lasagna and the wine...I don't know what happened. It was like a dance on their immaculate white table cloth reflecting the superb shimmering mood lights. The Lasagna was spectacular. Now I know where to go when I crave it.....moving on.... Fried Breaded Mozzarella Di Bufala - Yumm. Could've had two more. Heart of Baby Romaine Wedges - Exactly how Caesar Salads should be made. Penne - Nice. Great choice if you're Kosher conscious. Paccheri Di Gragnano - One of our favourites. .....and of course I already told you about Mr. Lasagna. Skip Lunch. Dress Your Best. Sashay In. And Enjoy! Maybe I'll see you there.
Great restaurant for special occasions or want to impress
This is an upmarket restaurant and pricey. Food was overall very good though going there, is more for the experience. Driving there during peak traffic can be quite challenging with all the traffic and construction of roads going on. Definitely worth using their valet service. Food is tasty, I would recommend their pasta over the Osso Bucco and fish dishes. Sauces for the pasta was perfect and well balanced. Definitely give this restaurant a try if celebrating a special occasion or if you want to impress.
Hanging out in Vancouver, Canada
This white table cloth Italian restaurant’s food and service were excellent. The vibe was awesome and it looked and felt like a who’s who establishment in Vancouver, Canada. We ate Calamari, a Burrata special with eggplant and red peppers, Caesar salads, Lasagna, Paccheri Da Gragnano, and they made us a veal piccata with a side of fettuccine alfredo that was off menu. It’s a great restaurant. We’ll dine there again. Two thumbs up 👍👍
^^^ Exquisite Dinning ^^^
Got invited to my friends Ruby anniversary dinner at Giardino . it is one of the top upscale high end Italian restaurant downtown , well know for their pasta and amazing art decor bright and cozy , they offer two section for dinning the main restaurant and the Florentine styled courtyard , maybe a early week night , dinning room very quiet happy to see our tablet well set up next to the lovely vintage wine cabinet , menu have lot of variety selection if you do not like pasta , and we also shared few appetizers like Antipasti / Calamari and smoked salmon , my girlfriend love her Clams Linguine and my rack of Lamb so tender ( MR ) nice herb crust outside excellent dish looks everyone enjoyed their meal , some portion is not very big , over all very relax enjoyable dinning experience , exceptional service closed on Sunday and Monday , reservation must ! great for special occasion
Quality food, cocktails and service!
Best Italian food since our trip to Tuscany! Great service, great cocktails and terrific food. We had one of the salad specials (fresh peach with baratta cheese) and the lamb ragu on freshly made pasta. Outstanding! I had a Negroni, which was perfect!!
Lovely patio ambiance/ great vibe but disappointing food &flavours.
The ambiance on the patio is really lovely and the vibe seems to bring out friendliness among fellow diners. Our waitress, Petra, was really on point and contributed to our enjoyment. Both my husband and I were disappointed with our meals however. The "roasted butternut squash & black trumpet mushroom soup" had no evidence of mushrooms so not what I expected; the "crab tower" appetizer lacked flavor. We expected o have asparagus tips in the " pasta w asparagus and sundried tomato" but instead there were extremely thin slices of the stem. I suspect that there may have been a chef change since last summer??
Good food, not great value
First time at this Vancouver classic. Nice interior and the vibe is laid back. I was surprised at how noisy it was, and we were seated next to a particularly obnoxious party of 6 with zero table manners. Drinks are expensive...no red wine by the glass for less than $19. We skipped appetizers but they brought some weird flavorless pita chips instead of bread, which I thought was odd. The entrees came quickly and were tasty. I was shocked at how small the portions are. For $50 a plate I expected to be full...it's pasta after all. Staff was friendly and attentive. Hopefully they are well paid with these prices. I left feeling ripped off so I won't be back. Plenty of other places that serve fresh pasta where I can hear my partner speaking and leave feeling satisfied. $200 for one cocktail each, entrees and a dessert we shared. We were in and out in just over an hour.
The food was authentic and delicious.
The decor is wonderful, noise level is high, but this a popular spot. If you haven't tried it, you should.
We live in the neighborhood and have dined at Giardino many
We live in the neighborhood and have dined at Giardino many times. The careless and reckless valet who turns onto Hornby from Pacific on red lights is a nightmare. I guess he probably didn't clue in that the "green bike" light is only for bicycles NOT CARS. There has been a change in the rules at this intersection due to a cyclist death and I fear that this 25 year Giardino employee (if he doesn't smarten up) will be the next driver to seriously injure a pedestrian or cyclist!! I doubt I will return to Giardino as this person is very aggressive, confrontational and belligerent - definitely left a bad 'taste' in the mouth.
Food, Service and Ambiance is top notch! We were invited
Food, Service and Ambiance is top notch! We were invited for Christmas dinner here and every dish was on point. We ordered a few dishes to share in order to have a taste of different dishes. Carpaccio of Beef Tenderloin with Honey Mustard Dressing Calamari Fritturina with fresh lemon Lobster Bisque Crème Fraiche Creamy Burrata, Carpaccio of Zucchini, Cherry Tomato, Baby Arugula with Pomegranate Dressing Spaghetti Al Nero Di Seppia Atlantic Lobster Medallion, Cherry Tomato Sauce Linguine alle Vongole Fresh Clams, White Wine Garlic Broth Paccheri Di Gragnano with Spicy Italian Sausage, Pecorino Cheese Oven Roasted Pacific Sablefish Horseradish Crust Roasted Spring Rack of Lamb Fresh Herbs Crust and Bean Cassoulet Highly recommended!
Thought provoking
Have been to Giardino and before that il Giardino. Lovely meal, great service but I was disturbed to see Men’s only washrooms but no Women’s only washrooms. On the night I was there, more than 50% were women. Should there not be clear representation of every gender representation. As a paying customer, and a woman, I would like a Women designated washroom. When I inquired with our server, the response was that no one in eight years had ever asked that question. Interesting. Can I be the only women thinking this?
More flash than substance, over priced
As visitors to Vancouver, this was our first visit. Atmosphere was polished, with a stuffy vibe. Service was well below what we would expect at $150avg per person at our table. Waitress seemed impatient and annoyed at my allergy concern. Also, she forgot a couple of things we ordered. I read some reviews about the service, but dismissed it as someone always complains, but I can now see why they said what they said. The food was good but not great for sure. And for the price, I would dare say subpar. My chicken tortelini was flat and lacking excitement. I hate to leave bad reviews, but we have had much better food and service at plsces less than half the price.
Simply unmissable…a superb dining experience
We enjoyed a superlative, relaxing and fun dining experience at this restaurant. If this is the only restaurant you have time to visit if passing through Vancouver, pre-book...as it really is unmissable. From the warm welcome on arrival by the two lady receptionists, to the atmosphere, menu and cuisine, this was an exceptional evening. In fact, it was our most enjoyable dinner since departing from the UK two weeks ago. We were offered a choice of tables both in the garden or inside the main restaurant. Once we had experienced the atmosphere in the garden, we stayed there. It is a beautiful setting with plenty of heaters for outdoor dining, all the guests were smiling, staff were extremely professional and the flatbreads and other bread served first was so delicious, we had a second helping. We have read the recent superlative TripAdvisor reviews as well as a very odd one-star review about somebody vaping outside (which did not put us off in the slightest). We have no hesitation in adding our five-star review. The menu was terrific, we were spoilt for choice and Françoise, our main waiter, provided much needed assistance. We struck lucky with Françoise as he has a wonderful personality, is very amusing and he has also visited more countries then my wife and I. We are approaching 100 countries while Françoise only has four more to go and he will have been to every single one in the world. He has some great stories, he should write a book. Everything about this restaurant was enjoyable. Congratulations to the kitchen and to owner Marian Menghi. If we lived in Vancouver, we would visit this restaurant, probably once every week and opt for a garden table weather permitting. We absolutely loved it. I often head for Michelin restaurants, and there are eight of them in Vancouver but none of them can possibly be as enjoyable as this. It was almost like visiting one of the ultra popular restaurants in a top London private club ( Annabels...Morton's...) where the clientele gel rather well in a familiar but exceptionally hard to achieve, dining experience. With thanks to David, the superb concierge at the Loden hotel for the recommendation... and for driving us in the Loden's iconic London traditional black cab.

Gorgeous building, however the cocktails and food was very mediocre. For the prices they are charging you would expect the best, however this was not the case. The pasta was from a box and not cooked well and the chicken was overdone. The bartender needs to read up on how to make martinis because these were the worst I have had. It was very disappointing for what we were expecting.
Top of the Line
High end restaurant with high end food and service. Great place for major celebration. We had family from both coasts.
Special Occasion…Special Place
Recent visit to Vancouver saw us celebrating our anniversary. So glad we chose this gem. Trisha ushered us through the beautiful restaurant and lead us to an outdoor court at the back. Our server Yanos, was wonderful and he delivered our amazing meals of fish and cannelloni. Amazing nite
Lovely Italian restaurant
High quality restaurant which I would not hesitate to recommend. Shahin our server was friendly and very helpful and made some excellent suggestions. We started with cocktails which we asked to be slightly tweaked and this was done gladly and without hesitation. The food and drink exceeded expectations. Ambiance was buzzing without being obtrusive. Beautiful room. Our only disappointment was leaving our reservation too late to get a patio table, which looked lovely.
What a beautiful restaurant with gorgeous art everywhere
What a beautiful restaurant with gorgeous art everywhere and the canopy. Italy at its finest in Vancouver! We went to celebrate a family friend's college graduation in May so special occasion. There were loads of appys to share: we had the Ahi Tuna w/ Avocado & Grape Tomato Medley and Fried Breaded Mozzarella Di Bufala w/ Tomato Arrabiata Sauce which was very good, and the star appetizer Creamy Burrata, Carpaccio of Zucchini, Cherry Tomato, Baby Arugula with Pomegranate Dressing, this was my favorite. Then my sister & I shared Tagliolini with Rock Prawns & Saffron, Julien Zucchini and the Sablefish Horseradish Crust. The pasta was the winner. The service was excellent and the red wine (forgot the name) paired so well with our meal. The table had desserts and there was a chocolate fondant and a tiramisu, that chocolate with the red wine went so well together. Would definitely go back as this was a special meal.
Table beside us vaped the entire night
We dined a few weeks ago for a special Anniversary dinner and was seated by a large table. The head of that table vaped a sickenly sweet flavour and we were overwhelmed by the smell. We asked the waiter to please do something about it. He came back a few minutes later (he never went to table in question) and said there was nothing he could do, they were a regular table and dined there often. Our meal was ruined as he vaped constantly throughout the time we were there. We felt slighted that not only was the restaurant breaking smoking laws, but Giardino valued them more than our comfort and dining experience. There were 10 at that table but we've told a lot more than 10, so who really won in the end.
We celebrated a friend's birthday here and it was excellent
We celebrated a friend's birthday here and it was excellent as we expected it. If I had one bad thing to say, it would be that my ossobuco wasn't fall apart tender and was a bit dry but the risotto accompanying it was very good. We all had our own starters but we also shared some and we thought they were really good. The waitress was friendly and accommodating and she's good at her job but I never got her name (oops). The place was bright and not dark like some places we've been to. Good atmosphere, great service and we'll come here again. Service and ambiance were 10 out of 10 and the food was 9.8 out of 10 so it was a very pleasant experience.
Descent Italian
Remember dining at the Giardinos many years before. They were down the block then. The whole area is changed and is not recognizable. But our caby have no problem finding it. So this is a new location and a new built facility. Welcoming place. Little cluttered but nice ambience. But the food and service was below expectations. Neither my pasta nor my Osso bucco was impressive and the service was poor. Selection of wines were good.
A Solid Italian Restaurant
Many locals and visitors claim this is the best Italian restaurant in Vancouver but I have to say I can't agree. The burrata was not as fresh as I have had at other places. It did not melt in your mouth and the tomatoes lacked flavor. The linguine vongole was nothing special. The clams were so tiny and lacked seasoning. The beef carpaccio was very good. The crakers they serve are too salty. All in all I love the bar service it was top notch but the food was so hyped up it was not what I expected and maybe it was just that night. The wine recommeded was wonderful as I usually order a bottle and then share the decanted wine with the staff.
Perfect
The food and the atmosphere were excellent. The staff was great as well. We ate here with friends, but it would also make an excellent choice for couples wanting a nice romantic evening.
