Gaonnuri New York Reviews from The Last Year
An amazing restaurant with breathtaking views of the city.
Would be the perfect restaurant for a special occasion. The braised pork belly was probably one of the best I've had in ktown. Super flavorful and pairs perfectly with the kimchi radish. Our server was amazing and cooked our meat to perfection. Would definitely recommend!
Views with a Side of KBBQ: A Feast for the Eyes, Not
Views with a Side of KBBQ: A Feast for the Eyes, Not Necessarily the Palate Soaring high above the city on the 39th floor, Gaonnuri is a New York destination that blends modern elegance with Korean barbecue traditions. The clean, modern decor and breathtaking panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline make it an Instagrammer's dream. It's the perfect spot to impress a date or anyone seeking a unique dining experience. The service is top-notch, and they've even managed to elevate the KBBQ experience to feel refined and luxurious. However, the food itself presents a different story. While it's not bad by any means, it doesn't quite live up to the rest of the experience. We opted for the omakase menu, featuring beautifully presented dishes and delightful amuse-bouches. Despite the stunning presentation, some dishes lacked depth of flavor. Surprisingly, the highlight wasn't even the meat (which, to their credit, boasts premium cuts). It was a simple vegetable salad, which speaks volumes. The banchan selection was also disappointingly limited, with basically just kimchi on offer. The Verdict: All About the View If you're willing to pay a premium for the stunning views and luxurious ambiance, Gaonnuri delivers. It's a great option for a unique NYC dining experience, but don't expect to be wowed by the food alone. While it's certainly Instagram-worthy, it might not satisfy your taste buds as much. In short: Views: Breathtaking! 5 stars Service & Ambiance: Top-notch! Feels luxurious. 5 stars Food: Not bad, but some dishes fall flat. Presentation is impressive, but flavor is a 3 out of 5. Value: It depends. You're paying for the experience, not necessarily the food. If that's what you prioritize, it's worth it. But KBBQ purists might be disappointed. Foodies, especially those with a love for Korean cuisine, may find the offerings underwhelming. The portions are modest as well, so don't go in expecting a feast. Ultimately, Gaonnuri is a place where the food, though decent, takes a backseat to the impressive backdrop.

Had visited Gaonnuri for a bachelorette dinner for one of my friends. We had reserved a table and opted for the pre-set menu. So we arrived and checked in and was directed to the elevator that went straight up to the restaurant. The restaurant had a great view of the city unfortunately it was cloudy and rainy couldn't see much out the windows. We had a menu at each place setting of the food that was going to be served family style. The waiters were great throughout the night! We started with appetizers-- there was a calamari salad, mushroom medley, veggie dumplings, and marinated fried chicken. Everything was delicious with enough portions to share with our group. Then came some Korean bbq of chicken and galbi and then the next course was a bibimbop dish and some cod fish. Omg I cannot say enough how good everything was! We ended with the chef's choice of dessert. Overall it was such a wonderful dinner with such nice ambiance!

dioicous KBBQ! Service was attentive, food cooked to temp on the fly! Only thing I wish was a little better was the ability to portion out how much we need, gone a couple times and always end up with either way too much or no enough for everyone. Best KBBQ in the city IMO
Came here for dinner on a Saturday and had a great time.
We had a reservation so we were seated right away. The restaurant interior was on the fancier side and had a beautiful view of Manhattan. We ordered the Gaon Set for each of the 4 of us and we thought it was enough food for us all to be full. The meats were nicely cooked by the staff and I really liked the side dishes. The kimchi was super fresh and matched well with the meats. Would definitely recommend, especially for any people visiting NYC and want to see a nice skyline view.

Was worried this would be the type of place where you just pay for the view/ambiance but the food was actually great. Made a reservation for dinner and came with a friend. Note that if you want a window seat, you have to reserve omakase, but we still had a great time and they seated us fairly close to the window seats. I tried: + Lychee martini - solid + Japchae with beef - perfect + Premium set - really loved the prime ribeye in particular Great assortment of banchan, too. Kimchi stew was also awesome! Ignore Google Maps - Entrance is on 32nd st next to Tiger Sugar Bubble Tea.

The food was amazing! I would have everything we ordered again. Cocktails were mid tier - I had a lychee martini and usually love them but this one was not for me. I switched to wine and the Sancerre by the glass was great. Service was quick, but we didn't not feel rushed at all. The server/chef plated our food after cooking it in front of us and split it evenly for the group. Busy, but not too crowded and a great view of the city!
Meat quality was great and the aesthetic/views were unique.
I wasn't paying but I feel like if I were I wouldn't have gotten my money's worth so I have to dock a star there. There are certainly other KBBQ spots I'd go to at least for my tax bracket. I also feel like KBBQ is supposed to be loud and somewhat abrasive. The lounge vibe in here is cool but not my preference
The view is awesome!! With almost full Times Square view
The view is awesome!! With almost full Times Square view while dinning here! Food: pretty good on regular menu. If you are sitting by window seat, you will need to order the course menu. Went there with my girl friend, each of us ordered the bbq small set menu, more than enough meat, we were both full by 2nd course, and they have people came over to cook for you! With A LOT of side dishes, we had to take them home for another meal! This is a very good price based on the portion and pretty good BBQ meat. Went back for new year Eve, course menu was just OK, prefer their regular BBQ Menu. Service was always good! Trying to book 2 days before New Year's Eve, we couldn't see anything online anymore, emailed them, they told us to just book any time slots and managed to get us table for the count down! If you are coming here for the Ball drop, you will not be able to see the ball drop building, but we were happy enough to be able to seat up high watching Times Square view, and did not have to jam with traffic later 12am. Will visit again!
After weeks of searching for a place to have a family
After weeks of searching for a place to have a family reunion I settled for Gaonnuri. Needed somewhere spacious and quiet enough to talk amongst family members who haven't seen each other in 30+ years. We had a frail 90 y/o patriarch who only eats Korean food and could not travel outside of the city. Gaonnuri turned out to be the perfect location for my family. Clean, modern decor with a stunning panoramic view of Manhattan skyline. So quiet that we can hear each other in normal voices (one has to scream to be heard in other crowded restaurants). The waitstaff was so polite and respectful of every little quirk and request. Didn't expect much food wise since this is NOT the usual authentic KBBQ (for that you have to opt for the loud and the crowded ones). The premium set came with two different quality beef (one Wagyu, the other aged 21 days) with a very simple grouping of few side dishes, a stew, egg casserole and fancy salt to dip the meat in. The beef steaks were both tender and chewy. Cooked by the staff at our table over the hot grill, but I didn't feel any heat or smoke. So this place has the technology and skill of a top bbq joint... What surprised me more were the side dishes that came with the set. Fluffy egg casserole steamed like a big bun, soybean stew full of umami and the refreshing cucumber kimchi (we asked for seconds and thirds). It turned out to be a very satisfying meal. What a combination! Good food plus the beautiful view of the sunset from top of a NYC skyscraper. You have to pay similar price per person in other KBBQs, so why not have it at a place that offers the dazzling view along with some peace and quiet?
We went to Gaonnuri last night and to preface this review
We went to Gaonnuri last night and to preface this review we're huge Korean BBQ fans and have been to tons of place all over from Ktown in NYC to Queens to Fort Lee, NJ so this isn't our first Korean BBQ experience! Now, when it comes to Gaonnuri when I was making the reservation I honestly didn't know what to expect since the reviews were super conflicting and people were saying you can't even compare this place to Cote (one of our favorite high end KBBQ spots). However, I'm here to say those people are wrong. Gaonnuri is definitely up there with Cote when it comes to meat quality for sure. I can only imagine those who say it can't be compared didn't order the better cuts of meat (I think everyone forgets you get what you pay for!) From the second you walk in it's leaps and bounds fancier than any other ktown bbq spot. The decor is gives off a fancy, clean, sophisticated but not snooty vibe. There was a wine bottle wall behind the hostess and of course the views are nice for tourist (since we grew up in NYC we were ok with not having a window spot). Our drinks were delicious I had a Spicy Margarita and my wife opted for the Cocktail of the Week (Gin, grapefruit, lemon, pear). She eventually switched over to a spicy margarita as well not that her cocktail wasn't good but the spicy margarita was really great. We started with the Sweet & Spicy Fried Chicken, beef Japchae, and beef Dumplings. The fried chicken was amazing! The Japchae and dumplings were good but I would most likely skip the dumplings next time and get 2 orders of the chicken it was that good! For entrees we decided on the A5 Wagyu Ribeye and the Australian Wagyu Strip. The A5 Wagyu Ribeye was delicious and buttery just very thin and came with a hefty price tag of $135. I'd say it was definitely worth it to try but if you're showing up hungry the Australian Wagyu Strip was amazing. We actually loved it so much that we ordered a second Australian Wagyu Strip! They serve it with pink Himalayan salt that you can add to taste and it just elevates the steak even more. The staff cooked all three steaks perfectly to our request of medium rare and honestly they were both some of the best cuts of meat we've ever had (Cote included). For dessert, we opted for the deconstructed Snickers and the Housemade Madeleines (these have a hint of orange in them). Both desserts were amazing the deconstructed Snickers had this amazing ice cream and cookies. The Madeleines are something I could easily eat every day for breakfast they're served hot, fresh, and absolutely delicious! Since it was our anniversary they gave us a complimentary dessert of raspberry sorbet and a caramel macaron which sounds weird together but we're each phenomenal. The raspberry sorbet was the freshest I've ever had and that macaron I wish I came with two of them (which would've been nice since it was our anniversary and we had to split one - yes I know it was free but for the amount we spent the could've thrown a second macaroon on the plate). Overall, here are the pros/cons and do/don't: Do/Pros - 100% get the fried chicken appetizer, Australian Wagyu Strip, and madeleines! - service was great and overall a great experience - skip the A5 Wagyu it's a great Instagram video but it's so thin and for $135 you're better off with two Australian Wagyu Strip steaks ($78 each). Cons/Don't - it's annoying that they had so many window tables open but wouldn't seat you there unless you did the expensive Omakase menu or tasting menu (side note we spent more money than it would've cost us for either of those options and had to sit at a huge table for 2 people - we could barely share food the tables are so wide) - Skip the wine and go for the cocktail (we're used to mark ups but some were insane most notably the Black Stallion Cab Sav which we get for ~$20/bottle was $22 for the glass). ***The entrance is on 32nd St right next to the Tiger Sugar Bubble Tea Storefront*** We'll definitely be back only a few things keeping this restaurant from a full 5 stars (maybe next time)!
Had the tasting menu, the whole meal was very good, service
Had the tasting menu, the whole meal was very good, service was on point . The wagyu ribeye was delicious , you can get one and one of the tasting menus (one "regular" and one wagyu and that way you can try everything) the view was great and sitting by the window is definitely the way to do it.

Did not have much expectations coming here bc I heard that it was more views than food. However, was pleasantly surprised that the food was actually really good! I would say it's better than your usual upscale korean bbq! Quality of meat obviously was excellent! The view is incredible as expected. We were able to sit by the window and that really elevated the mood of the meal. The service was great, servers were dressed in suit and tie and seemed very professional. This was one of the best family meals we had!
Haven't been here in about 6 months.
Used to be good at fair above average pricing but never before felt like I didn't get my money's worth. This time, very unimpressive. There are so many better options for better food. Wish they would stick to honest food. A little bit silly feel like I got treated like a dumb-ass tourist.

We went here to celebrate a friend's graduation and the service was excellent. We were treated very well throughout our time and we also got a table with a great view which was lucky. We each got a premium set and the meat was enough to fill us up and then some. Everything was delicious but very expensive for what you get. You really are paying for the view, which is good but not necessarily worth it if you're not seated next to window.

Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
