Great hot beverages by the cozy fire pit on a chilly day! Mulled wine was delicious. Get there early to snag a spot by the fire pit.

Based in my experience this rooftop is gorgeous, you have to make reservations in advance because walks in are not allowed, they have many filters to let you in... beautiful views of the city, services was good I went in my birthday it was ok.Food great presentation but the Flavor wasn't the best, drinks were ok with no presentation for the price you pay... if you go I hope for you a better experience but mine was not the best.

While the setting and service was good, I would not recommend place at all - especially if you are vegetarian (or vegan). Diner food is better. We got the cheese curds (effectively mini mozzarella sticks which you could have got any corner pizza shop for a few dollars) and the vege casserole - which was literally green beans, three pieces of broccoli and a handful of chickpeas in marinara-like sauce. This dish was worse than a meal you would make at home in a rush after a long day at work. I have never written a review for a restaurant before but felt compelled to so in this instance.
Be the first to ReplyThe space is super unique and beautiful.
The decor is cozy- there are string lights and knick knacks hung from the ceilings, lots of pillows, and blankets on all of the chairs. I loved the overall intimate vibe of the rooftop! Definitely a great place to grab some drinks and spend time with friends or a date.We ordered the charcuterie board, cheese board, and cheese curds. The cheese board was very underwhelming- literally 3 small blocks of cheese. The charcuterie board was nice and came with a selection of meats and pickles. The cheese curds tasted like mini mozzarella sticks. We were super excited about the drinks. I tried the Frost Bloom with pear brandy, blood Orange liqueur, lemon, and maple. It was very spirit-heavy, probably a bit more than I generally prefer. But I'd be interested in trying more as their menu has many creative cocktails. We ended the night with the Sticky Toffee Pudding which was delightful, definitely the star of the night.Service was nice and attentive. I'd recommend this space for a nice date! The decor definitely brings the experience together.
Be the first to ReplyFun experience, good atmosphere.
I feel that everything about the location is about the experience and immersion. The drinks were top notch. Really delicious. I had the steak and fries and absolutely was perfectly seasoned and flavorful. It absolutely did not need the sauce they delivered on the side. Unfortunately, my husband was not impressed with his food. He had the chicken schnitzel and it was not schnitzel. It was a breaded airline chicken breast. He says everything was cooked right but it had no flavor and he wouldn't go back because of that. So we are compromising with this score. My experience was awesome. His was not. But drinks. Get the drinks.

I met up with a few friends for a late dinner at Gallow Green which has a magical rooftop garden and patio - better for warm fall evenings than winter nights. There is tons of outdoor seating which makes it a good option for folks who are still avoiding crowded indoor spaces. The menu is relatively limited but there are a variety of options that would suit just about every dietary preference. I ordered the burger with a side salad which was solid. We also ordered a bunch of starters from fried calamari to tacos to fries to share to get started. Gallow Green is in the McKittrick Hotel, and their separate entrance is just to the right of the main hotel entrance. You'll take a tiny elevator and a narrow set of stairs up to the rooftop.

There is nothing worse that an insufferable so-called "influencer". These people come into these well-known establishments, which frankly don't need any of this nonsense. Unfortunately, The Hideout at Gallow Green's staff was too nice and did not have the wherewithal or guidance to deal with this nuisance. On the night we went to Sleep No More, as usual, we went upstairs to Gallow Green to enjoy a nice meal and drinks and check out notes on the show. Unfortunately, we chose the night when this obnoxious young lady was dining with her posse and pretending to be some kind of influencer. Not only their raucous, loud, and childish behavior around the food was extremely annoying and distracting, but also she had a huge spotlight that she was using to light up the food but also shining at other tables and guests' faces. She was asked directly by guests to please turn the light off and she promptly ignored them and continued with her disruptive behavior. What takes some good solid stars away from the place was that the staff was also informed by multiple groups of people that the spotlight and the behavior were taking away from their experiences and making them (paying guests) uncomfortable. The wait staff approached her to voice their concerns, only to be waived away with the words: "trust me, this is good for you" in other words saying that her pedantic, entitled behavior was somehow warranted and should be accepted by The Hideout. Apparently, her followers who most likely cannot even afford a meal at this place need to see her content. This is despite the fact that those of us who were spending our good money there were having a less-than-desired experience as a result of their light being shined in our faces and having to listen to their screams and stupid loud commentary as if they have never seen a good plate of food before. The Staff elected to roll over and allowed this behavior to continue to the detriment of most of their guests' experience that night. The Hideout could be a solid 5 stars, only if you are lucky enough to be there on a night when your hard-earned money counts for more than a few likes on social media. Seems like the Hideout has made a choice and it is not in the best interest of its guests.
Be the first to ReplyI am updating my review to 3-stars from five.
My original 5-star review was written in 2013, and I stand by that experience. It was truly magical. This one reflects my latest one, 9 years later. We went to The Hideaway at Gallow Green after an incredibly magical visit to The McKittrick Sleep No More theatre experience. I have been multiple times and this one was by far the best (reflected in my review). Riding on that high, we were starving and looking forward to an incredible meal.I would like to preface this with the fact that the food and drink deserve 5 stars, our server Josie was great. I will start with the food and then explain why I took two stars off.We ordered drinks, I had the Northern Lights which was delightful, the combination of sweet and tart was perfect and as we were celebrating our Holiday/Anniversary we wanted to really enjoy the magic that we experienced before on our last visit. To start we ordered the fries and Brussel Sprouts, the fries were incredible, and the Sprouts were good (but I wouldn't order them again). My hubby got the Mushroom Crepe which was delicious, and very tasty. I had the Salmon which was perfect. Honestly, you could have given me the eggplant and lentils it came with and the fries and that would have been a perfect meal. The food does deserve 5 stars. We shared the chocolate pudding and it truly couldn't be beat, and this could have been from the best restaurant in Paris.So... why the three stars? We appreciated the fact that they accommodated us without a reservation, so when they told us there was an event and we had to be out by a certain time that was NO problem. The problem is that the place is TINY, and I mean TINY - which is cozy and romantic unless you have a completely obnoxious "influencer" at the table by you flashing a handheld light (the size of a clutch purse) in your face and taking pictures and videos with her friends. They were also very loud. The light was in my eyes 80% of the time and at one point in the meal, my husband turned back and asked her to stop. She didn't. Another table asked their server to ask her to stop and when he went over the jerk "influencer" not only did NOT stop but told him that what she was doing was for "the restaurant's own good". She was emboldened by the fact that the restaurant backed down and continued with her filming and pictures, completely ruining the experience for us and clearly the table who also asked for help.Having worked with actual influencers, I can tell you that normally one who has a decent amount of followers will set up something with the establishment ahead of time and get the space to do their thing. It was disappointing that the restaurant was more focused on getting us all out by a certain time (we kept on hearing the servers reminding the tables of the time constraint) than making sure the time we had was top-notch. Instead, they allowed an obnoxious patron wreck the experience for the rest of us.

Myself and several friends from out of town came for a celebration. Unfortunately, because of a hurricane in Fl their original trip was canceled and the restaurant refused to give them back their deposit. So, instead of the original planned brunch we had dinner. Very beautiful restaurant on each level. The main dining area is a rooftop filled with a lush green garden and gorgeous foliage and greenery. We were greeted on the first level and immediately taken upstairs to be seated. Unfortunately again, the hostess on the main level was not nice, in-fact she was extremely rude. Luckily the manager was able to assured us that would be taken care of and made sure the rest of the evening would was pleasant. The food was good, but not worth the price. The service was lackluster at best. How many times should someone have to ask for their waiter!? I was impressed with their cocktail list. Very unique and the drinks were strong. I highly recommend reservations. Well I be back? No, but if you're looking for a beautiful establishment with a great cocktail list you should give it a try. Nice views and something different and "luscious" in the concrete jungle.
Be the first to ReplyWhimsical natural woodland rooftop in the city.
This old-school charm hotel had nice little touches reminiscent of spooky old time hotel: 1)postcards in the elevator2) no floors shown on the evelator panel 3) newspaper stand 4) old key mailboxes for hotels The staff was chill and laid back but helpful. We arrived slightly early for the reservation so had to wait while they changed the room around. Grabbed a drink spiced mulled wine while we waited in the open no reservations waiting area. It seemed like a hodge podge of different ideas from a white Christmas tent to wood benches. Some tables stated reserved but we were told anyone could grab a drink and chill in the area if they didn't have reservations. If you go on a cold night time get the Christmas tent, it had a great heater! When our reservation time arrived, the staff found us, and escorted us to our table. We had 3 app 2 entree and 2 more drinks. My favorite standout dishes were the ghloash, braised short ribs and potato gratin. Potato gratin was creamy and great texture of potatoes. Short ribs melted in your mouth. I would order both again! Outdoor forest with views of the city was cool. Finding the bathroom/coat check area was clean and also had the same hotel vibes.
Be the first to ReplyI came to Gallow Green for a work team celebration dinner.
We had a fantastic night out. The cocktails were absolutely delicious. Some of the team's favorites include Sleep No More, St. James Ward and Northern Lights. My favorite cocktails were Palmreader and Staycation. My boss order every appetizer on the menu. We loved the fried calamari and the harissa-baked mussels. I would not recommend ordering the cheese plate. That missed the mark completely as we did not like the cheese options. The Steak Au Poivre was absolutely delicious! You are definitely missing out if you do not try it. The mash potatoes on the side were super tasty as well. I would definitely come back to dine outdoors at the rooftop. The day we dined was a bit chilly therefore we did miss that opportunity.
Be the first to ReplyOk so this place is beautiful.
It's absolutely stunning to dine in and very cozy. However, the food (and the prices) ultimately lend itself to this 3 star review. If you're vegetarian, I would HIGHLY recommend you eat a pre dinner before coming here because there are like two options to choose from: soup and salad. I ended up getting the winter stew, the mashed potatoes and the fattoush. The most enjoyable thing was the winter stew - but it was no different than any canned soup. The mashed potatoes lacked seasoning (it was literally just straight up potatoes) and the fattoush was fine. For the prices, I would have liked something that felt more prepared but I get that it's supposed to be more touristy. Lastly, we shared a mocktail (dew drop) that I actually quite liked but my boyfriend thought was too gingery. Overall, it's a beautiful setting - but I would probably just just come here for drinks or dessert next time.

The drinks, apps, entrees, and desserts were all delicious, the atmosphere is unique and very interesting/appealing; as an added bonus there was a fabulous violin and guitar combo playing that made the evening very special. Despite being obviously understaffed, the service flowed nicely and with a good attitude. We'll be back in the warmer weather for sure!
Be the first to ReplyCame here with my family.
We ordered the Scottish eggs (yum), cheese plate, fish & chips, beef and ale pie, shepherds pie, and the steak & frite. The fish and chips came with a mashed peas which was not seasoned so it literally tasted like mush and the fish & chips itself was too greasy. The pies came out good. The steak was a bit too well done. The drinks were very interesting. It would be nice to come back in the summer when it's not so cold to sit outside and appreciate the decor.

Really wanted to love it here, but our visit fell a bit short. Ambiance is great. It's a really beautiful space. Food and drink are overpriced. While the drinks are good, they aren't anything special compared to other places in the city. Food is where the visit was very underwhelming. We started with the cheese board. It was very small and hard two share between three people. For dinner we had salads and the burger. Can't say anything we ordered was memorable. Glad we had the chance to try it, but can't say we'll be back.

Amazing experience, with a retro vibe in the elevator and a beautiful garden on the roof! Drinks were pricey but worth it! There aren't a lot of food options for vegetarians; I ended up getting fries!
Be the first to ReplyGreat open rooftop spot for warm weather.
Tasty and creative cocktails and really friendly staff. (However, I would not recommend when it's cold outside since the enclosed rooftop doesn't really have enough air circulation and you'll be freezing at the other standalone tables).
Be the first to ReplyDecor-Not the same anymore.
Used to be picture perfect; Lights, Trees, every single thing was in the right place. After covid, it's a dump! It's extremely cold to eat with even 10+ heaters. They give u a blanket if u need.Food-It's decent. Because it's so cold inside the tent, food was already cold when it arrived. Bit over priced but it is what it is. It's nyc. Service-Fantastic. Couldn't be any nicer. Drinks-For me, it was very weak. But it could've been just my cocktail.
Be the first to ReplyGallow Green is back! And just as fun and quirky as ever.
We've been back a few times since the opening and they still serve up some great cocktails and delicious side plates.Favorite part of the experience is the unassuming entrance and elevator ride through the McKitrick Hotel. Once you're upstairs you walk into a beautiful rooftop garden and that's Gallow Green!Absolutely recommend the sleep no more cocktail here or the purple drink as everyone calls it. It's delicious but also on the stronger side! If you want a side dish, you can't go wrong with the fries here - they are fantastic.

.. freezing! The aesthetic are nothing like what they feature in their ig. They have two heating lamps for a room out Omni the open with about 10 tables. I asked for a more intimate setting they said it was reserve for reservations of 3 or more while I sit on a table of 6 people. I'm sure it's beautiful when they offer what they market but this is not it.
Be the first to ReplyI never leave reviews on here, but I had one of the worst
I never leave reviews on here, but I had one of the worst customer service experiences here in a long time. Great atmosphere, great food, great cocktails, but our waitress (Sarah G.) was cold and flippant. As soon as my friend and I sat down, it was like we were annoying her simply by visiting the restaurant. We ended up conversing with the couple seated next to us who were also being served by her and they (unprompted) said the same thing: that they felt they were an annoyance and inconvenience to this waitress. Everything else was great - Sarah G. needs to seriously work on her people skills.

***This place was so nice. My girls and i went here on a Friday evening (8pm) in mid-October. For starters, you need to make a reservation and show proof of vaccination to eat here. As far as our experience, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Our waiter Diego was super attentive and personable. We ordered Salmon, Steak and a burger (i'm allergic to seafood- don't come for me lol) and had 4-5 drinks each. I ordered Northern Lights without the club soda and it was delicious. We had such a great time, we stayed from 8-11pm. Our bill came up to $280. So worth it!!!! Nice date night, girls/bro night vibes. Tips: *bring a jacket/light sweater, *Uber to the place unless your a walker. I took an Uber from Penn Station-LIRR. *Take pics before you eat, lol.
