🙂 4/5 - A Very Happy V Day

The historic restaurant closed on Valentine’s Day 2004 just 2 years after I moved over the bridge, and I regretted not making it there. Upon re-opening in March 2020, I had a reservation but then the pandemic hit. Since then either I couldn’t get a reservation when I wanted one or I got one but my plans fell through. So when they sent me an email offering Valentine Day reservationx, I grabbed a table for 6 and made a party, inclusive of two gfs who I was the wingman for when they met their bf’s 7- 8 years ago, and my friend Jazz just to spice things up. One of my gf’s is a pre-pandemic investor in the establishment and happily reported making a profit.
The very famous restaurant in Brooklyn did us proud; they sat us in the middle of the main dining room at a round table on an oriental rug. The restoration of the interiors is near perfect; an old fashioned steakhouse for hipsters. And the food was exactly what one hopes for particularly for the elevated price point; everything had a unique twist.
The $16 sturdy cocktail menu complimented the food; I had the very excellent Sazerac because, well because I love Sazerac and I do not get it in these parts in the quantity and the quality that I like. Then we had a funky Gamay followed by the quintessential Valentine’s Day wine: a sparking red. For apps the table shared the chicken pate and the roasted tomatoes. They put an extra layer of fat on the top of the pate: amazingly good. My entrée was the fried chicken which was juicy and had a hint of cinnamon, with a creamy kale salad and hushpuppy with a chipotle mayo; exceptionally tasty The basket was large so I took half of it home. For dessert we shared the baked Alaskan which had a hint of mint. The wait staff attended well to the table and helped keep the party going.
