Sadly this place closed.
It was one of the last Italian restaurants in what used to still be part of Little Italy and was now considered Chinatown.

I remember Forlini's from my days in NYC, only found out it was closing from Law and Order SVU S23E22
Be the first to ReplySo, so incredibly sad to hear that they're closing.
This place was golden. My first stop on dozens and dozens of trips to NYC. This staff was awesome. They always treated me and family. May they fully enjoy retirement. God Bless!!

I first came here in the late 1980's when I had a job at a city agency that had it's offices nearby at the old Sun Building at 280 Broadway. In the early 1990's, a good friend of mine was a Manhattan Assistant District Attorney, and I remember dining here a few times with him.As time marched forward, I started working in Brooklyn and The Bronx and never made it back here, until last night. My group of friends gets together quarterly to dine and stay in touch. Our Manhattan ADA friend left this mortal coil in 2018, and we decided to dine here as a way to stay connected with him as we expected his spirit to be present as he had dined here himself before. It was a happy and sad night. Happy to be with friends, with good food and drink, and sad, as we found out from our waiter that the building housing Forlini's was in the process of being sold and this would probably be the last night they would be open.Rest In Peace Forlini's.You had a good run.Until we meet again.....

Forlini's is a Downtown Courthouse institution which was until recently relatively unknown to the Gentrifiers and tourists. I wonder why this is so? Certainly not because of the food, which is terrific. All of the pastas, sauces, and desserts are delicious. Theirsteaks and veal and seafood are expertly sourcedCertainly not due to the service which is absolutelyprofessional, no nonsense and pleasant. Certainly not due to the price which offers extraordinary value. Certainly not due to the location, which for years has made it the lunchtime Go To for the Judges, Attornies and Court Staff who work nearby nor its proximity to Chinatown, SoHo, NoLita and Little Italy. No, the reason the trendies ignored the place is due to the old school vintage decor. Yes, although the place dates back 60 years, it'smost recent renovation was likely in the late 70s andthe place does have that Suburban Continental look which just isn't gonna cut it for the pretentious "aesthetes" who tend to only frequent places where the "look is right" and the owners and customers all look just like them. Y'all need to get over to Forlini's pronto before New York's old school Genuine ItalianAmerican standouts all disappear.
Be the first to ReplyThe last time I wrote a review concerning Italian cuisine,
The last time I wrote a review concerning Italian cuisine, I referenced that the dish I had lacked character. To me, character in a meal means that it has to have multiple dimensions and qualities, something that brings out the best in a dish. At Forlini's, when you order the Chicken Luigi, this is a dish that has lots of character, from the peppery chicken, to the porky sausage, to the aromatic garlic linguini, and then bring them all together to form one satisfying flavor. It is something that seems to lack in today's Italian restaurants. They all want to try and be cute by going too original, or too zany. This one takes the risk by staying true to originality, but throws in a few sparks of uniqueness to make them stand out from just being that casual restaurant out of a Billy Joel song. The service is pretty typical of that, a down to earth owner who is more confident than a Wall Street banker that you will enjoy something. Intelligent, audacious, and an ability to understand what the customer wants without being too braggadocious about his offerings. It worked on me."It will be the best meal of your life." He said as he dropped the beautiful plate of food in front of me.Is it?No.But is it a good meal? No.It is a *great* meal.Try one piece of these succulent pieces of meat, and it will work well. Combine all three and throw in a few strings of pasta and you have to take another bite. When it gets too dense, eat a roasted red pepper that is in the sauce. It will clean out your pallet so you can reinvigorate yourself for that next bite. The portion size is so that you will be able to finish it all without feeling all the guilt that comes afterwards, so enjoy this with no shame. After all, it takes a lot of personal character to make such an experience here so special.

Amazing gem in Chinatown in NYC! I stumbled upon it a few years ago as I was looking for a hole in the wall restaurant and came across Forlini's! When you enter, you are greeted like you're family and can sense that the restaurant is family owned and family run. The food is AMAZING!! I could tell that the recipes are tried and true, family recipes. We were treat so well! As we were leaving, we received hugs from the staff. **Scenes from Law & Order: SVU are also taped here!

It's been 8 months since I've been to Forlini's, and that's a sin. But the portions are so large that it only makes sense that I space my visits, right? RIGHT?Seriously, stop in for pasta - I love their linguini - and anything seafood.Friendly staff, full bar, old-school Italian joint that's perfect for a family gathering, or even a date. Forlini's is a gem.

Forlini's is real-deal downtown Italian, and the perfect spot for those looking for good, simple fare served in a classic, NYC setting. Whereas a lot of the Italian spots right on Mulberry Street run the risk of being cheesy tourist traps, walking into Forlini's, located just a few blocks away, is like walking into a mid-century dream, complete with wood paneling, pastoral landscapes, and sumptuous baby-pink upholstery. After stopping in on a Saturday night, we were immediately seated at our own comfortable booth. We started with a couple glasses of their house wine- Sauvignon blanc for her, Chianti for me- which was humble but hit the spot and matched the vibe. To start, we shared a baked artichoke and a delicious and bright tricolore salad. For pasta, we kept it simple, with her ordering the cheese ravioli with marinara and me having the simple spaghetti marinara. Both were perfection- the sauce was delicious, old-school, and exactly what you want in Little Italy. We ended our meal with a couple shots of limoncello to round out our evening. Beyond the food, the convivial and familial atmosphere really made the experience- you can tell this is a spot that families have been coming to for decades, and I can see why. Forlini's is the perfect spot for anyone looking for a classic red-sauce spot served with a retro NYC vibe.

It was great! Had veal cardinale, veal with eggplant, prosciutto n cheese. Very good tender thin veal n eggplant was even better. Also had seafood fra divalo which he said was great. Especially joyed talking the owner. Lots of tv shows n movies filmed here. Cool place, great food, authentic, definitely try it!

December 2021 - COVID Review:My husband and I were visiting Little Italy so why wouldn't we go eat at an authentic Italian restaurant? We found this place due to the high reviews on Yelp. When we first entered, we were very kindly greeted by the owner! Overall the service was great, but the food left me very underwhelmed. I was expecting more considering the 5 star reviews and the high menu prices. The pasta that we got were definitely cooked al dente, but the food wasn't super hot when it came out. We also weren't super full after our meal either and the "water" that we were served was definitely NYC tap water due to the strange aftertaste.

A cozy outdoor dining space, great customer service, delicious food -- what's not to like? My friend and I came here for my birthday and we shared calamari and pasta! Everything was well cooked and flavorful. I loved how crispy the calamari was! We also had red wine with our meals. I usually don't like red wines but I tried something I've never had before and it was great! They have a decently sized wine selection. After our meal, they brought out a cake with candles on it for my birthday. This was such a sweet touch! Really appreciated how thoughtful they were.
Be the first to ReplyAuthentic Italian family restaurant.
Enjoyed having Jack as our 'actor' server with his friendly, warm and welcoming service. Loved the food-our sons enjoyed the Linguini and clam sauce,Panzerotti; my husband delighted in the stuffed shrimp special, and mine was a delicious eggplant parmigiana with meatball! Add carafe of red wine and finish by sharing a cheesecake and tiramisu amongst the four of us made our last dinner in the Big Apple pie oh so special.
