Farmhouse Inn Forestville Reviews from The Last Year

I had such an amazing experience here! The staff were amazing and the food experience was unbelievable! It was creative, well executed, not a single detail was spared or went unnoticed. The tasting experience went in so many exciting directions and the wine parings with it were unbelievable! The sauces were to die for, and everything was cooked to perfection! Everything was exceptionally sophisticated and well thought out. All the dishes were very technical and impressive. The chefs were amazing and always eager to talk about their process. The head chef really knows what he's doing and keeps a very organized and refined kitchen. I was so happy to hear that most of what they served was locally sourced or foraged, as a local it made the meal so special. I will definitely come back!
Too expensive for what they offer
Decided to give Farmhouse Inn a try for a 2 night stay. The room was nice and welcoming, rustic charm, clean and comfortable. We booked via Virtuoso so when we checked in, I asked for an upgrade. They showed us 2 rooms, but we did not like them and chose to remain with our basic room. We needed to charge our electric car. The front desk assured us that if we left our key with them they would take care of it overnight. The next morning, we saw that it was not done! Dinner at Farmstead was good. Menu selection is very limited though. Breakfast has only 4 options. The option I chose comes with a fruit, and when I called to ask why it was not provided we were told they had run out of fruit! Odd. It's a cute inn, but for $1,000 a night, not worth it. We will not return. The best thing is the cookies they offer with turndown service.
DO NOT DO IT!!
Don’t do it! Location is right near the highway rooms are very noisy when you asked to get moved they’ll have no availability. The rooms are so small they’re smaller than my walkin closet. We couldn’t sleep the first night so we left they charged us for the second night even though we had to go rent someplace else total scam total ripoff.

Nice place , nice outdoor dining right in the river, excellent Italian grinder sando.
My husband and I went here for my birthday dinner.
It was absolutely incredible. The sommelier & the servers were engaging, friendly, and knowledgeable. Each of the dishes were so delicious and paired well with the wines. I couldn't pick a favorite, all of them were! They gifted me a signed menu for my birthday. We felt so special. It was intimate and romantic as well.
Snobbish, Cliquish & Narcissistic
haven of stylish comfort” - I was accused of deliberately breaking a shower head in a moist steam shower that had been plastered on with caulk and I had reported as not secure “handcrafted amenities” - it seemed a burden to get extra cookies. Can 3 people in a room get 3 packs of cookies? I asked ahead twice and still the housekeeper “had to check” if it was ok “attention to every detail” - after driving 3 hours not knowing where to park with no one at the “valet” stand, couldn’t even find the lobby to access a restroom right away. No glass of wine upon arrival or asking how the drive went. Front desk service is better at 2 star hotels. “With only 25 rooms we pride ourselves on the Inn’s intimacy and privacy, creating a feeling of visiting a private estate.” - The property now is SO crowded. Whenever you walk the property you run into staff or people watching you from the lobby or restaurants. The Farmstand seems jammed in and I wouldn’t wanna use the pool or hot tub right underneath the restaurant being stared at. I didn’t feel ANY privacy or intimacy. Everything from the hiking trail, to the rooms, dining options and pool areas are jammed into a tiny area that is not serene or relaxing. I don’t feel the property really cares to cater to ALL types of guests. After telling the owner Joe earlier in the morning how pleased I was to be back after being a regular before the remodel, he couldn’t be bothered to acknowledge my family as he saw us leave, after we cut our stay short from rude treatment from the maintenance and front desk staff. With sooo many other options in scenic destinations, this overpriced property in the woods needs to greatly improve on service and quality to sustain itself. My family will go where impeccable service and quality accommodations are standard for all ages, races and disabled persons.
Great Memories!
We’ve been coming to Napa and Sonoma for 30 years and have stayed in many places. A trusted innkeeper suggested Farmhouse so we went with two other couples for vineyard visits and wine tasting. Sonoma’s draw is its casual, agricultural feel and more reasonable prices. The Farmhouse personified the area set amidst a forested area, landscaped with lavender, rosemary bushes and thyme. Farmhouse has a sense of place. The staff, from the lead concierge who helped us find wonderful boutique wineries and trouble shot for us, to wait staff to everyone in the office, the food & beverage manager, were friendly and welcoming. The property has a variety of rooms, some very quiet (barn house suites) and some pick up some of the road noise. Breakfast can be in your room or in the Farmhouse restaurant. On night the six of us sat outside by the fireplace, surrounded by flaming heaters, and had wood grilled pizza and other casual foos at Farmstand — the casual restaurant. Great food and fun! Our room had a two sided fireplace and a large deck to enjoy the view. Very comfortable space, heated bathroom floors, steam shower — we had a lovely time!
To welcome in the new year, I enjoyed a relaxing stay at
To welcome in the new year, I enjoyed a relaxing stay at Farmhouse Inn, a luxury boutique hotel tucked away in Sonoma Country's Russian River Valley. The charming property is owned by fifth-generation farmers, Joe and Catherine Bartolomei and features 25 guest rooms and two farm-to-table restaurants. As equally impressive as the rooms and property, is the onsite Farmhouse Restaurant led by chef de cuisine Craig Wilmer, a Bay Area local with kitchen experience at high profile restaurants including Petit Crenn and COI. After the retirement of founding chef Steve Litke, and a remarkable legacy of 13 consecutive Michelin stars, Farmhouse Restaurant had a couple transitional years before they found Wilmer last year. While I didn't get to experience Farmhouse Restaurant prior, I very much enjoyed the current iteration under Wilmer's lead. The seasonal 6-course tasting menu was made even more decadent for New Year's Eve, with caviar in each course. A champagne-focused pairing was the perfect celebratory compliment. I was beyond impressed with each dish, the extensive wine program, and the knowledgeable service. Dinner started off strong with three amuse bouches and two lighter dishes, including a crab salad with fennel, avocado, and caviar. Normally modest braised rainbow chard was elevated with golden osetra caviar. And the seaweed butter that came with the bread course was addictively good. The Mt. Lassen Trout was perhaps the most stunning dish in the beautifully presented meal. Different root vegetables were cut and arranged to resemble colorful fish scales. Duck-fat fried potato squares and a bright, citrusy sauce with calamansi completed the trout. Classic, tender steak au poivre rounded out the savory courses. Even the banana and ice cream dessert had a generous dollop of caviar and gold flakes. A satisfyingly sweet and salty ending to a memorable meal. We were given a couple mignardises, as well as madeleines and chocolate chip cookies to take away. At $275 for the tasting menu and a $150 wine pairing, dinner is certainly a treat, but one I highly recommend for a special experience. I wouldn't be surprised if they receive a Michelin star again!
We've been coming to the Farmhouse for a long time
We've been coming to the Farmhouse for a long time (annually since 2015, but our first visit was in 2008). The fine dining has been through a few iterations but this latest experience was beyond amazing. We have eaten at top restaurants in NY, SF, LA, and throughout wine country (including Cyrus and Single Thread). This meal was the best I've ever had, hands down. I couldn't pick a favorite course if I had to. The wine pairing is always perfection (Jared is absolutely gifted), and every dish was beautifully presented, an adventure to dive into, and extremely delicious. Everything was so elegant but also approachable--reminiscent of comfort foods at times but vastly elevated. I took pictures of every course, because I know word will spread and it will be harder to get a table. Chef Craig is truly gifted, and the staff are incomparable--friendly, knowledgeable, and so skilled at what they do (Akram, Sam ... everyone!). My husband has celiac, and Chef Craig was able to adjust as needed to give him an equally incredible experience. We had a chance to speak to him afterwards, and his explanation of the changes he made to keep my husband safe but immersed in this culinary delight demonstrated Chef's passion and depth of talent. I'm so excited to see what our next experience here will bring and am already spreading the word to my friends and loved ones who appreciate fine dining.
Don't go to this Hotel, overpriced for the experience
Arrived to an extremely noisy hotel. The Farmhouse Inn is on a freeway, we did not see this fact in the hotel information. The room was cold, the bed was uncomfortable, the towels were scratchy, the bathrobes were thin, there were several spiders in the room, we were served cold food and coffee, and the electrical outlets in the bathroom didn't work. We told them we wanted to leave after arriving, but the hotel would not credit us for any of the three nights we reserved. We stayed one night and left. They insisted that we pay for the nights that we didn't stay. We tried to cancel our massages 22 hours in advance and they told us we needed to give 24 hours. We were extremely disappointed with The Farmhouse and will not return. We are still in shock that they can ask over 1,200 a night for this dump.
First class dining and staff.
A truly memorable experience. The fine dining was superb. Chef Craig Wilmer and his team exceeded our expectations. We loved everything. Anne K
Not a great experience.
Over engineered food that lacked any kind of vision and was woefully light on flavor. A lot of technique for techniques sake not for the betterment of the dish. Dehydrated, rehydrated tomato in the middle of summer when fresh vegetables abound - why? Tile Fish cooked with the scales on, again why? They claim to be farm to table, local ingredients but sure didn't seem that way. In fairness there were some high notes but all in all a lackluster dinner at a premium price.
Great date night.
Small and quaint. We had a small issue with our meal and they fixed it, and removed the charge from our bull, as well as included dessert for everyone at the table as an apology. Totally wasn't necessary but it is really nice to experience overly great customer service, because it is so lacking as of late. I'm coming back next weekend for a facial, massage, and meal at their fine dining restaurant and I'm much looking forward to it. The property is beautiful, and we have gotten so many ideas for our yard renovation. Lovely all the way around.
A must come and visit before they get their Michelin stars!
A must come and visit before they get their Michelin stars! Chef Craig Wilmer and fabulous team are amazing! Creative forward with delicious outcomes! A hidden gem you'll want to experience before it's too late and you can't get in! Cozy and welcoming ambiance and great staff! I can't say enough great things about the tasting menu and sommelier wine pairing is a magical experience traveling through all your senses and worldly touches. We loved it so much we booked two nights in a row to come and enjoy the menu, cuisine, and service!
Amazing night, chef Wilmer gave us faith again on high end
Amazing night, chef Wilmer gave us faith again on high end cuisine. He is a magician in the kitchen. Each dish had amazing flavors, textures and senses. We love every ounce of it with a superb wine pairing. The staff was at the level of the cuisine. I highly recommend this experience. My wife and I are foodies, chef Wilmer deserves his Michelin stars hands down.
Unfortunately, the experience we had at the Farmhouse Inn was not what we had been hoping for.
When I embarked on the search for the perfect destination to celebrate our 30th Anniversary, I explored a few options: Solage in Calistoga and Farmhouse Inn. After some consideration, taking into account my husband's preference for Pinot wines,we ultimately chose to stay at Farmhouse Inn for a more intimate ambiance. The decision was also influenced by our reservation at their highly regarded fine dining establishment the Farmhouse Inn restaurant, which had received exceptional reviews under the new chef. I booked a king-size room through booking.com to ensure we could fully savor the dinner without having to worry about driving afterward. However, to our disappointment, we were assigned the most unfavorable room in the entire resort, facing a busy and noisy street (quite the opposite of what we had anticipated for a special occasion which was noted in the reservation!). The resort was not fully occupied during our midweek stay, so I inquired about the possibility of moving to a quieter room. Surprisingly, the only option offered to us was another room at an additional $$$$ (bearing in mind that this was already quite an expensive resort). Given the circumstances, it would have been a pleasant gesture on their part to provide a complimentary upgrade for a special occasion in a resort with plenty of available accommodations. Regrettably, our stay at the Farmhouse Inn lacked any special touches that one would expect to commemorate a milestone occasion like our 30th anniversary. There was no complimentary bottle of wine awaiting us, no fresh flowers to enhance the ambiance—nothing to make our stay feel truly exceptional. This was a significant letdown, the Farmhouse Inn did not go the extra mile to make it memorable for us. Adding to our disappointment, we found a dead bug on the bed in the room. I would like to emphasize that this review solely pertains to the way our reservation was handled and not to the Farmhouse Inn restaurant, where we dined and had an absolutely divine experience! The culinary creations were impressively innovative, the presentation was impeccable, and the wine pairings were thoughtfully selected and truly delightful.
