Fast Food Version of Detroit Pizza
We actually ate at the Emmy’s Squared on West 48th, but that location isn’t on Tripadvisor to review. We weren’t much taken with our experience at Emmy’s. We like Detroit style pizza. Emmy’s makes, however, a fast-food version of the pie. Detroit pizza is a slow food, but Emmy’s was cranking out pies left and right while we were there, mostly for delivery or takeout. The pies have decent toppings, but the crust is light and fluffy—not the thick chewy focaccia-like crust you get with a good Detroit pizza. The salad also appeared to have come from a big bowl of premixed ingredients. The drink menu is small and expensive compared to similar establishments. Our server seemed disinterested. She took our order and brought our food and that was it. To top it off, in the early morning hours after we ate at Emmy’s some young person started trying to misuse the credit card with which we’d bought our meal there.

Pleasant experience. Staff practically of Latinos and African Americans, friendliness and guidance on the menu. Magnificent Detroit-style square pizza experience A “must” if you are in NYC and you don't enjoy food designed for tourists as much. Try and you will return
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best pizzas I’ve ever had.
This is one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had. The staff were nice, service was fast enough, and it wasn’t busy even though it was around 5.30 on a Saturday evening. The pizza was INSANE! Any pizza lover going to NYC MUST go here. Highly recommend.

Best pizza place in East Village. Food is delicious and service even better. Our waitress Janessa was such a sweet girl. This place has a good vibe.

The food was nice but the staff (apart from one male waiter with long hair) were so rude. A man I can only assume is the manager in a jumper and glasses was rudely smacking tables and tutting whilst guests tried to eat. His behaviour disrupted everyone’s meals and was a prime example of awful customer service. Another waiter was rolling his eyes at customers and acting so miserably it made you want to leave. Genuinely an awful atmosphere - avoid at all costs.

We arrived early for dinner. We were welcomed to sit inside while we waited for the kitchen to open. The staff was very friendly, we had burgers and pizza. Both were excellent. I do recommend this place.

We left Hamilton and wanted a nice pizza spot to end our 1st trip to NYC. It was very close to closing and the grill had been shut down. The manager was apologetic for that inconvenience, but was also very accommodating for our small party of 4. The pizza was phenomenal and most definitely memorable!

great vibes, loud, engaging, excellent bar menu. happening place.

Definitely unpleasant manager
Definitely unpleasant manager, local like many others, very high prices.
We will certainly not return

Amazing food, worth the wait
I love a good thick crust, "fluffy" crust pizza. This hit just the right spot on a lazy Sunday night after walking around the city all day. The only downside was that the kitchen got backed up and texting updates reported our food was ready an hour before it actually was.
The seating looks nice, and well spaced. I would go back and "dine-in" outside.
Nice crust
With reservation our party of 6 was seated right away. This restaurant is bright and clean, with several dining areas (we’re seated in the main front section) as well as a cellar downstairs. Our server was very attentive. We started with two salads to share: the Caesar with fresh lettuce and large anchovy was nicely presented and well seasoned. The shredded sprouts had a bit too wet with blue cheese and miso dressing. On to the main stars: we loved the mouth feel of crunchy pizza crust. Of the three pizzas, the Colony with crisp pepperoni was the standout, the Classic, with additional vegetable toppings, was also quite delectable. By the time the Big Ang arrived we were quite full, and the combination of volka sauce, ricotta and pecorino was a tad too cheesy.

We were on our way to Thai food when I said ‘that place looks cute’... so then we decided to try Emmy squared instead. We shared the garlic cheese sticks and the Bad Pauli pizza. The bad Pauli had white sauce, caramelized onion, banana pepper, and sausage. We really enjoyed the pizza! My boyfriend loved the garlic cheese sticks, but I thought they were really greasy and heavy. Next time we’d order salad and pizza instead. Bill was just under 40$ with one app, a small pizza and iced tea, but we left full and satisfied. My only critique would be that service just needs to be polished. We were welcomed and seated super friendly!! However, the waiter spilled water on the table and just said ‘oops sorry’ (we thought he was going to return with napkins because it was a lot of water), and we had to use our lap napkin to wipe it up.. Then it was too wet to lay back on my lap.. oh well.. accidents happen.. but just bring us some napkins... Also, the app plates should have been changed for the main. Like I said.. the garlic cheese sticks were so greasy, we didn’t want to use the same plate for the pizza.. they brought new plates after we asked.. but took our forks and knives.. then we had to wait again to get new forks and knives. Anyways, I just think the waiting staff is a little inexperienced, but they are friendly and will get better with practice.

We went here because we kept hearing how delicious the food was from our friends, and they were right! We split the burger and vodka sauce pizza. They were both very good. The pizza is very cheesy and has great taste. The place is clean and the service was fast! We did not need a reservation Sunday night but we usually see people waiting outside, so it is a popular restaurant!

Our visit to Emmy Squared was ok, the pizza was nice, it was quite loud and we were sat by the door to the outside kept being left ajar. I'd recommend coming as a group for sure!
Be the first to ReplyPizza-with-a-difference…. Quite different and good, but pricey !
New York has a new pizza: Emmy Squared’s squares !! New to the downtown East Village area, this spot has fast become a go-to place for great pizza and sandwiches. My son, the hip New Yorker, “found” Emmys for us with a gift card for my wife’s birthday.
So: we headed down there as soon as we could: before the card cooled. Reservations were recommended, but when we got there the place was mostly empty… go figure !
The pizza ? We had one glass of white wine ($12,) a cocktail ($14,) a red leaf salad ($13,) a Colony Pizza ($23,) and one Angel Pie ($24) and spent $94… phew !! The pizza was good, though. It’s square, deep dish, and cooked just crispy with a soft center: a good balance of hard-ish and almost juicy bites with lots of the pepperoni, red peppers and cheesy toppings. The secret ingredient is probably the honey in that mix somewhere, which gives it a sweet and somehow smoky overture, that smooths and surprises the palette… quite good.
Overall, a pretty expensive experience (though it was off a gift card)… this was a bit excessive when you consider we didn’t eat or drink a lot. But I also have a little value left on the card and can perhaps stop in and get a pizza “to go” one evening
