Dream Midtown New York Reviews from The Last Year
Our New York trip April 2024
The staff and management team are so friendly, it was our 25th wedding anniversary and we got a bottle of champagne and white wine. Really enjoyed. The hotel is so close to Central Park, Hudson River, Times Square, Broadway. There is a deli as you turn right out of the hotel on the corner we highly recommend.
Beware of nightclub noise on upper floors
Great location, but hotel was mid. Room was cramped and tired feeling. Not a Level 6 Hyatt in my opinion. Bathroom was very small and shower had only a half wall of glass - no door -- so the floor was constantly wet. Biggest issue was the noise. We could deal with the daytime construction noise (though fair warning jackhammers begin promptly at 8 am), but the noise from the nightclub above was terrible. So loud you could have your own private dance party in your room at 2 am. Great if you are staying there just to patron the club, but not so great for sleeping when you've been walking the city all day.
Excellent Service
I left a necklace during my recent stay and the housekeeping staff was kind enough to retrieve it from the room and sending it back to me. Excellent service! special thanks to Ms. Imelda Miguel. Additionally, the hotel in general is great. I love the location.
Dream Midtown (Manhattan NY)
I love it there. It is such a beautiful and clean stay. One of my favorite things to mention is the lobby’s aquarium. It is centrally located to Times Square, Central Park, the famous shopping avenues , 5th & 7th). and so many eateries. I will be back soon. It was all a Dream ❤️
Motel service and rooms for $500/night
Terrible service even for Hyatt globalist. Check in staff said I would be able to change to a nicer room after 3 nights. When I went to check in they said no rooms were available. They said they would try to find another room, but they never contacted me again even though I saw nicer rooms become available on the Hyatt app. It was an empty promise. Staff did not care about my concerns with the WiFi that was not working despite me telling them that I was working and having to go back and forth to the lobby when I did not have meetings. During my video calls, I would frequently get disconnected and used up my mobile hotspot and data plan. Hotel staff tried to gaslight me saying that no one else in the hotel was having WiFi issues and that the problem was my work laptop. They refused to even try to call technical support or try to find a solution or move me to another room. Even when I asked if there was a quiet place I could work, they refused. Even worse is that there were multiple high school groups staying in the hotel, and they took over the hotel lobby some even playing instruments in the lobby, with no one who asked them to be quiet. Students would scream and yell down the halls as if it was a college dorm. The serafina restaurant food quality was terrible. The eggs Benedict that was described to have prosciutto had one thin slice of prosciutto that was less than what one might place on a cracker. The salmon platter had 4 thin slices of smoked salmon. The options were very limited and lacked any meat items. The food was salty, and the juice was room temp. The elevators were slow and also being used for hotel utilities, and when one elevator was dedicated to the rooftop club, we were always waiting so long for the elevators. Lauren the front desk manager was terrible. She did not offer any solutions to the problems I was facing and did not even try to meet me in the middle. She just said there was nothing they could do. It was terrible customer service and I am shocked that she was leading the front desk team. She blamed the check in person and did not take any responsibility that the hotel need improvement. Lauren just wanted to place bandages to make me go away with some Hyatt points, as I was a nuisance. There was never any follow-up from the hotel staff because they did not care about the issues I was facing and they were not trying to do anything to fix the issues in the hotel, during the 5 nights of opportunity to fix things. Even more upsetting is that when speaking with the hotel team members, I was told that Lauren came from Hyatt management as the dream hotel was severely under-staffed. I think this explains the lack of Laurens commitment to the hotel and the hotel staff, but it was very upsetting to think that a manager from Hyatt corporate would treat customers this way. This hotel is such a shame because the location is great, but the hotel quality and customer service from management really ruins the experience. I can say that this 5 night stay has been the worst experience I have had with Hyatt.
Excellent Location, Amenities and Service.
Loved our first stay here. New brand for Hyatt. I come to NYC for work every month and have stayed at a lot of hotels in mid-town, Times Square and Columbus Circle area. Value: Many of the similar quality Marriott and Hyatt in NYC are over $400. $250-305 is solid value. Comparisons: -Sheraton Times Square - much older rooms and chaotic lobby. Indifferent staff. Has club lounge. -Le Meridien - slow elevators and rooms are similarly small. Have had water pressure issues before. -Edition Times Square - feels more luxurious but much pricier and rooms equally small. -Westin Times Square - Some of the largest rooms in NYC. My go to hotel for work but over $400 that week. Being on Times Square, traffic can be a nightmare getting in and out. Location: Very convenient. Subway station within 2 blocks. Direct line to downtown/Wall Street. 4 blocks from Central Park South entrance. Walking distance (10 blocks) from theater district/Times Square/Rockafella Center/fifth Avenue shopping. Lots of restaurants and shopping nearby. Serafina restaurant attached to hotel (still serves room service). BEWARE: Construction nearby so it can be noisy during the day. On lower floors that face the street, you will hear street noise (cars & traffic). For those who is bothered by noise, ask for an interior facing room. We used to live in NYC, so the noise didn’t bother us at all. Ambience: Cool historical building. Fish tank in the lobby. Decent amount of seating despite smaller lobby space. Has a European feel. Elevators are on the small side (typical of older hotels) Service: For NYC, the staff here is absolutely exceptional. Very attentive, friendly and caring. Dave at check in was fabulous! Amenities: Several cool bars located on site, including rooftop Terrace bar and romantic Midsummer Night’s Dream space. Room: The standard rooms are average for NYC (ie small at 250 sq ft), comfortable for one but a little snug for two. No space on floor for open large suitcase. Note: standard room is only stocked with one set of towels even with king bed. Has bath robe. If you can afford it, the upgraded room is more spacious (average outside NYC). We got a free Globalist room upgrade. Room is updated and has cool canopy. Bed and Bedding is soft and comfy. Bathroom: Very much NYC small. Functional and updated. Comfortable for one but will not fit 2 people inside. Breakfast: A la carte menu served in the restaurant. Globalist gets 2 free full breakfast. We tried the Lemon Ricotta pancakes and the Avocado Toast, both were excellent. Side of bacon is nice and crispy. Wait staff was friendly and food came up fast. 7am-10am (11am for Globalist). We enjoyed our stay and the one stand our is the excellent service of the staff.
10 / 10!!!
My stay was PHENOMENAL!!!!!! I went with the band from my daughter’s school. Big shout to Margaret O. And Kenia. From housekeeping , to cleanliness to courtesy, this staff was a 10/10 and we cannot wait to return!!!!! Not to mention the location which was also perfect
Not a dream, not a nightmare.
What a let-down. Chose this over the Thompson and many Hilton choices. Wrong call. Loud, messy, tired rooms. People were lovely but the building was a hot mess. Room was unbelievably loud - yes I know the construction wasn’t from the Dream but you could have warned us (Hilton has warned me twice which I appreciate!) Rooftop bar was a huge letdown, didn’t match photos, drinks were Xmas themed in May (?) and staff kept moving us even though we went where they said. Unpleasant and I will not be back. I am considering moving away from Hyatt tbh. If this was a Holiday Inn I would be happy. But this was a CATEGORY 6 Hyatt. Not ok to take so much and deliver so little.
Convenient location
3 night stay to tour NYC and see a show. Can’t beat the location and walkable to most of the Broadway theatres, food , Central Park , Columbus circle and Timed square. We’ve stayed here twice. First time we had a very nice room that was bright. This time we have a room on the 2nd floor facing the interior and noises construction outside unfortunately in the building next door. Would stay again if nicer room on higher floor and when construction is completed.
Dream at Midtown - they got the important things right
The building was old in the room was small, but we did not visit Midtown Manhattan to stay in our room. The things that mattered were done extremely well: attentive staff, with an excellent attitude, super comfortable bed, clean room, beautiful, well appointed bathroom. The property was two blocks from our subway stop, which made it very easy to get there from JFK via air and subway. It’s also right along a bus route and Walking distance from Broadway and some of the best restaurants we’ve ever been to.
Work trip and thought great it is close to the office .
.. Pros Location close to metro train and many eateries etc. Felt safe, employees always present at door or lobby Key card required to use elevator Rooftop bar access within hotel Comfy side bed Turnover service daily Fridge Cons No microwave Sunken parts of floor View was dreadful This hotel has def seen better days - drab rooms in dire need of renovation Offers free bottled water daily however front desk did not tell me this upon checkin, only knew bc of the tv messages Although clean sheets daily it was obvious room wasn't actually cleaned esp the shower Old rickety and extremely small elevators and slow only a few ppl can fit comfortably Rooftop bar is like tryna get into Fort Knox and they reserve literally every table inside (even though we witnessed only10% being utilized) Outside area of rooftop bar a joke half of it closed off , no heater outside Overpriced yuck drinks Bathroom lighting hard to do makeup Room was right next to elevator , constant noise Didn't appreciate maids leaving maid cart literally right next to my door each night all night wtf Would I stay here again ...probably not
This hotel definitely not on the luxury end of things, but
This hotel definitely not on the luxury end of things, but unlike many of the other reviewers, I found our overnight stay here to be pleasant. The lobby is beautiful with this giant fish tank column. Outside f the front check in , there was plenty of seating in case you want to chill or wait for members of your group. There's also a concierge desk. We arrived early and our room wasn't ready, but we were told we could leave our luggage there until we checked in. They take your luggage and give you ticket to retrieve it later. Mike was at the front desk and he was so friendly and courteous and has a wealth of knowledge about New York and what's going on. He actually upgraded us to king size bed, which we appreciated. I asked him about the complimentary breakfast and he gave us to guest passes to Serafina Italian restaurant. If you want breakfast ask when you check in. You will not automatically be given these cards. Serafina sits on the corner adjacent to the hotel. There's a door connecting the hotel to restaurant so you don't have to go outside. Serafina is also where you would go to use the bathroom if can't check in or you don't want to go upstairs to your room. We were only a few blocks from the theater district and where our play was going to be playing which was nice 10 walk. Once we returned, our keys were waiting for us and our luggage was bought to us. The elevators are probably the most narrow and small elevators I have ever seen. In order to go to you floor you must scan you key card or you will not gain admission to your floor. Our key card was for the 5th floor and it would not allow us to press 8 for another guest. I guess this is a safety percussion that I appreciate. The room size was small in comparison to other hotel rooms we've stayed in outside of NYC, but it was adequate for our needs and it was clean. I always bring my own cleaning supplies and I am happy to say no grime was detected:) The room comes with a mini fridge and robes to use during your stay. Don't take the robes home as a souvenir unless you want to be charged. SN: The concierge was a great resource. We wanted to go to a restaurant in Queens on the subway and he told us how to get there and the subway was less than a block away from the hotel. The train he planned our trip would have taken us really close to the restaurant, but because of construction he suggested a stop in Queens that would get us close and then we could take a Lyft. This worked perfectly and got us to the restaurant and back in less than an hour. Would I stay at the Dream again? Yes! The service took it over what is just average accommodations.

Many things in our room did not work ( bathroom exhaust fan, safe in closet, refrigerator). Maid failed to clean our room the first day. On a positive note front desk staff were all friendly and helpful.
Had an interview here.
I didn't get the job but I was impressed by the property and the lady I interviewed with. She was knowledgeable and very passionate about hospitality. I've had a few interviews and your team really depends on your leader. Front desk staff was neat and welcoming. Quaint property but you can tell in 6-9 mths there will be a vast improvement. Good luck!
Was sent here for a work trip.
Maybe this place needs to be nuked and rebuilt from the ground up. You can tell it used to be trendy and nice during the early 2k's. There were so many things that were not good about the state of this hotel. The elevators are TINY; 2 people and their luggage can hardly fit. My 1st room smelt like urine/cat litter box. The vinyl was peeling off the headboard and cabinets. When switched to a new "better" room, it still had a slight smell of urine. Vinyl still peeling off the furniture. Desk light and headboard lights didn't work. There were stains in the bathrobe. All in all, will never go back. Don't bother spending your money here.

I had an amazing stay thanks to Franklin! He went above and beyond to make sure my stay was unforgettable. I will never forget his hospitality, I can't thank him enough for going above and beyond. The hotel was great, I loved my room. The bed and especially pillows, were so comfortable. The bathroom was very nice with awesome products. The location is perfect, close to so much. I had a wonderful stay here and will be coming back. 10/10 recommend!
This is one of the least impressive Hyatt brand properties
This is one of the least impressive Hyatt brand properties we have ever stayed at. First, they gave our suite away so we had to move rooms on day two, which is a pain. The fact that they moved us into a suite on day two is the only reason they even deserve 1 star, because their rooms are dated and dingy. The cleaning staff do their best, but this property doesn't seem to have been updated since the 60's or 70's. Other huge misses for this property are the breakfast and workout facility. It says there's a continental breakfast nextdoor at Serafina, but there's nothing continental about the selection. It was not even on par with the breakfast at a holiday inn express! Any meat and omelettes were extra. Basically, you can get a bagel or muffin which is ridiculous for a Hyatt property. Much worse is the workout facility you have access to is an 11 minute walk! They could easily give you access to the Thompson or Park Hyatt workout facility, both of which are right around the corner. But then guests would be asking to move properties as soon as they saw the much better options nearby. Make your points or dollars count by choosing any other Hyatt property!

Small room, horrible wifi connection, no fridge or coffeemaker in the room, way over priced and over rated. The best part of the stay was location, room was clean, continental breakfast was good and went until 10:30.
beautiful view great staff rooftop.
bar and food u can eat on rooftop. gor backdrop for pictures
Giving an extra half point, so that's a rating of 1.
5 I'm updating to include that the manager reached out the next day after I wrote my review to let me know they were on vacation. They also let me know that they put in the request before they left on vacation. Not sure how that timeline works because the email about the points was back in August, yet, they couldn't reach back out to me due to them being on vacation in Oct? Anyways, I got the points so that's settled. Still not a pleasant experience especially since I had to go chase down apology points.... Hoping that anyone else giving them a chance gets a better experience. Hey, maybe they actually are taking feedback and make improvements. I think the only time I'll give them a try again is when I see recent reviews from fellow Yelpers stating the improvements.
