BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE
I ordered takeout on December 31st, using the UBER app as it showed they were open on that day. During the time of the estimated arrival I noticed their delivery had not started. When I tried to call the restaurant there was a man who answered on the other line. I believe he had trouble speaking Japanese but kept saying “no no no no” and proceeded to hand up on me. When I attempted to call him back he answered , heard my voice and then hung up again. When I tried to call back a few more times I was received with no answer. When I checked my UBER app again I found that they had cancelled the order Without any warning, or explanation the restaurant cancelled on my dinner, leaving me feeling upset, hungry and disappointed. This isn’t a criticism on their food as I have not tried it, but rather the professional etiquette in being open and honest with the customer. I feel this should be a very basic standard of communication and professionalism which has not been upheld!

The restaurant with authentic Indian taste. Lovely taste, sumptuous, good service and heavily crowded
Be the first to ReplyA Great South Indian Restaurant
This restaurant is one of the best South Indian restaurants. I’ve been to in Tokyo area. I tried their Masala Dosa and it was just perfect. I can’t wait to go back and try other menu items.

Be the first to ReplyAuthentic Vegetarian meals
We visited this restaurant during our business trip to Japan and eagerly searching for Indian food luckily this restaurant was close to our hotel. This restaurant was quite crowded hence service was bit slow. however We got authentic vegetarian meals with unlimited rice and limited pooris. Taste was too good ! Felt prices are quite high.

You may have to wait in line for a table but don't let that deter you. The food here is fresh and excellent. Whether you are looking for lunch or dinner, Dhaba will not disappoint. Excellent option for vegetarians.
Be the first to ReplyStill my favorite Indian restaurant in Tokyo but…
My wife and I come to Dhaba every time we visit Tokyo for my favorite biryani. However, today we found out how inflexible they are as we arrived at 1:20, but only serve from the a lá carte menu from 1:30. We were already sitting at the table and they made us leave and wait outside until 1:30! We asked if we could order drinks while waiting for 10 minutes but to our surprise, no. And the restaurant wasn’t even full. We only waited because we were hungry, Bombay Sizzlers around the corner was closed (today is Monday), so we didn’t want to look for another place then.

Every time we go to to Tokyo we stopped at Dahba for a dinner. The best Mutton Byriani I ever tried in Japan! Top quality food!

Best Indian in Tokyo, easily
South Indian food, best in Tokyo by some distance. Very similar to the standard one would expect in UK. Get the dosa, excellent
Amazing South Indian food in a city full of boring curry.
Amazing South Indian food in a city full of boring, mild curry.
Look - Tokyo is full of Michelin-rated restaurants, but a lot of the international food here is tailored to suit the delicate palates of the predominant population.
Dhaba does not disappoint. The Dosa was amazing, the papad were delicious and our garlic naan was on point. As vegetarians it’s hard to just go out and eat whatever, wherever, but we know we’ll get a good meal here with so many options to choose from and great, fast service.
Delicious south Indian food
Dhaba India specializes in the food of south India. I don’t know anything about that kind of food, and the menu was quite lengthy. I solved the problem by ordering dishes that had been recommended by other reviewers. Thank you to those reviewers! I had a great dinner.
I had a half order of masala desa to start. That’s a crispy thin pancake or bread which was wrapped around flavored diced potatoes. I dipped it in the 2 sauces that came with it. Terrific. The sauce was medium hot.
My main course was Tamilian fish pulusa. In simpler words, it was a fish curry, with generous pieces of fish served in lots of red-colored tasty (very) hot sauce. On top of rice, which had to be ordered separately, it was wonderful.
The restaurant has beer and wine, but I chose lassi (no ice, please).
My bill for all that, including tax, was 3,030 yen. The amount of food was very satisfying. I wouldn’t have been able to eat another dish.
If you go with 2 or more people, I recommend ordering similarly to what I did: a half-order per person of the appetizers, one of the main dishes per person, and a half-order of rice per person, and then share. The restaurant also offers set menus. The ones I saw people eating had rice and three rather small bowls, each with a different food in it. The diners mixed everything together on top of the rice. I’m happier keeping the different flavors of each dish separate.
I had tried to make a reservation in advance through the Internet. It was difficult and then when I finally figured out how to place the reservation, I got back a reply that this restaurant accepts reservations only for 2 or more people, and I was going alone. It turned out that not having a reservation wasn’t a problem. The layout of the restaurant is very welcoming to singles. There is a long counter where it would be comfortable to sit by oneself. In my case, another woman and I arrived at the same time, each unaccompanied. We were seated at (separate) tables for 2, rather than at the counter.
I chose this restaurant partly because of the good reviews and partly because I wanted to go to the Chiune Sugihara Sempo Museum, which is next door. The museum closes at 5 p.m., and the restaurant opens at 5 on Saturdays and Sundays. It made a very satisfying package. (See my review of the museum.)
At 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, there were 2 of us in line. By 5 p.m., there were eight. People with reservations are seated immediately. If you don’t make a reservation and have to wait in line, be warned that the line is outside. There are a few small stools available, but if there are more people than stools, the extras have to stand. Also, be aware of the weather when you’re planning to go to Dhaba India if you don’t have a reservation.
The restaurant is easy to find. Leave Kyobashi subway station by exit 8. Go straight ahead, and up the escalator. Across the street and to the left, you will see a 7-11. Dhaba India is to the left of the 7-11.
The restaurant is on the ground floor (sidewalk level).
Underwhelming
Curries were average at best. Nothing special. Service was not very good. Staff seemed more concerned rushing you out after 9 (when kitchen closes) even though they are technically open until 11. Food is not nearly good enough to put up with that kind of service. Skippable.

I ate here twice during my time in Tokyo and was impressed with it. Although, as someone who eats/cooks a lot of authentic South Indian dishes, I found it lacked heat...at least for me. The locals seated with and around me were finding it a different experience - sweating profusely and mopping their brows though.
My lunch experience was queueing for around 10 mins, picked a set from the lunchtime set menu, it came fast: lamb, chicken and veg curries, I ate it without delay and then left as they are busy. Standard for a lot of places in Japan. It wasn't a time to loiter. It was tasty, with friendly service and a great price.
Dinner was a different affair with a full menu and a much more relaxed vibe. I had the Masala dosa, my friends had chicken and lamb curries and we shared a few things. I washed mine down with some Indian beer, hot chai and gulab jamun. Everything was fantastic!
I really enjoyed both visits and will definitely eat here again the next time I'm in Tokyo.
