Such a cool experience.
The food comes from the greenhouse or locally sourced otherwise. We had the set course dinner around sunset so it was beautiful through the glass windows. The food was great! It was € 79 / person and we left so full. it's a great deal for a Michelin star restaurant
Be the first to ReplyAmazing ambiance.
I am from Los Angeles visiting and had some wonderful foods at De Kas. The service and the food is amazingly delicious. I definitely recommend this place. The staff and the service is top notch.
Be the first to ReplyBEST MEAL IVE EVER HAD!!!! The food is mind-blowing.
They grow their own veggies and use them in ways that are just incredible. They start you with three different plates before you even get to the tasting menu all of which was incredible. Everyone working there seemed to truly love it and sharing their love with the customers. The restaurant is in an old greenhouse and it creates the most amazing vibes. So much natural light, lots of indoor plants, just incredible. After we finished our meal, we put our names on the waitlist for every day until we left Amsterdam. Did not get in again but that's how good it was.

Our dining experience was on point! The food? Totally delicious (lots of sauces - and I love sauces), and they nailed the customization - one gluten-free and one pescatarian. The second dining room (the one in the tent) wasn't as ideal as the main dining room (and a bit cold in winter!), but the overall vibe was pretty great. Now, let's talk about Freya, our server - she was the real star. Super knowledgeable, super chill, and she made us feel right at home (if your home had a fine dining greenhouse restaurant in it). It was really a memorable adventure (read: a long evening -- because Freya checked:"do you have anywhere to go?" and made our dessert courses last a bit longer ;) Fun!
Be the first to ReplyDe Kas or "The Greenhouse" is located at Frankendael Park.
Vegetables are the main feature. At their greenhouse and gardens, they grow a large variety of vegetables, herbs, and fruits. The restaurant has a Michelin star and a green Michelin star. We made reservations and arrived a little before noon when they opened. We walked around the greenhouse while we waited. There are two main dining areas and we sat where it mimics a greenhouse- lots of sunlight. It's a fixed menu of either 3 courses (€ 50) or 4 courses (€ 59) with dessert. As a preface, I don't know/ remember all the ingredients in each dish. There were some ingredients that I've never even heard of before as well. To start, we were given some appetizers- quinoa crisp with pea dip, radicchio with poppyseed & mustard, red cabbage spring rolls, and fried kale. We also ordered oysters which is additional. I preferred the oyster with violet vinegar and lemon over the oyster with steak tartare and parsley cream. The first course was beets with oyster leaves and radish. The oyster leaves actually taste like oysters! The second course was celeriac topped with greens and apples. To finish it off, they shave truffle on top tableside. The third course was squid cut like noodles that was topped with foam. Lastly, for dessert it was ice cream atop puffed grains and topped with foam. We were also given a scoop of chocolate gelato to end the meal. Make sure you allot enough time to dine here as it was about a 2 hour lunch. I enjoyed the meal and experience as a whole. But, TBH none of the dishes stood out as something I need to have more of. The exception is the oyster leaf itself, which is something that left a lasting impression on me.

One of our favorite dinners we had in the Netherlands! The service was outstanding. My husband and I both are meat eaters and our two friends we dined with were vegan (I emailed the restaurant ahead of time to let them know). We did the five tasting menu and the whole staff seamlessly was able to bring our dishes where the vegan dishes were as similar to the non-vegan dishes + made sure the correct people got the right food. The entire restaurant is beautiful on the inside and outside. You feel like you're sitting in an elevated greenhouse! I recommend walking in their gardens if you get a chance after dinner. Everything we ate was from their garden and it all tasted so fresh. The beets, the mushrooms, the turnips, chicken, asparagus, the yogurt, etc. I was just blown away by the quality of food! Make a reservation here because you will not regret it.

Who knew plants could sing this much!!! With a meal made of all plants except for a couple pieces of grilled mackerel, this was undoubtedly one of the best meals of my entire life. Unexpected flavors turned up around every corner and I came away with a newfound respect for plants and the freshness of the ingredients served at De Kas. Impeccable service and an experience of a lifetime.

Beautiful place in a green house type vibe but really big and a lot of airy rooms and natural light. Really delicious food as well. Good for special occasions and also fine to bring children as there is a huge play area outside of the restaurant and lots of families! But we also went for a brunch once without kids and it was really nice. Good wine selections.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best meals that I have had.
The food was amazing and the service was incredible. Just be aware they will charge you for tap water... which I wish they told u ahead of time. Otherwise it's awesome.
Be the first to ReplyDeKas is a truly unique restaurant.
The setting in literally in a large greenhouse, where many of the vegetables served in the restaurant are grown. The food is a fixed menu that changes daily, depending on what is fresh and local that day. Every course was amazing (see pictures), from the first bite to the last! The table service was very professional, and they give you just the right amount of attention. We found out only after we ate that they have a Michelin star, which is well deserved. We also toured the greenhouses and saw som many fruits and vegetables being grown. They also have a larger greenhouse not far away where the remainder of their fresh vegetables are grown. This is a one-of-a-kind restaurant and is not to be missed.
Be the first to ReplyThis place always is on my mind since I have been.
I even ended up buying their cookbook. This place is tucked away in a little park and upon arriving you see their greenhouse on the left. The dining area is open with the kitchen on the left when walking in where you can see all the action as it is an open kitchen concept. The food here is unbelievably fresh as they grow their own vegetables/fruits and pick all their ingredients the morning of. It is a set menu, but I assure you... you will love EVERYTHING. There are lots of veggies in it, but everything is so bold and flavorful you forget you're eating mostly vegetables. They also have a palate cleanser that is a celery purée with a crisp. The service is typical as they made sure water was always filled and was attentive. Nothing over the top, but you're not being neglected either.

You must now be reading this as you are writing your own 5 star review for what has to be one of the most beautiful, well crafted and accommodating restaurants ever. One Michelin Star does not do this place justice.De Kas basically takes the Alice Waters/California Cuisine/Farm To Table concept and takes it to the next level. 20% of all the food they serve is grown in the greenhouse that that restaurant is in or at their larger sister greenhouse facility. The restaurant is actually in a park and its grounds feel like a greenhouse in nature. There is huge open-ish kitchen and multiple dining areas that give different vibes. We sat in the large expansive main dining area and it has two story tall glass ceilings with relatively minimalist decor that still manages to feel warm and cozy. The tables are spaced widely apart so that you can have a normal conversation even with a full house. You can choose to take a break at any point in the meal that you'd like to go look at the actual food growing in the greenhouse. The service here is as tight and solid as any 3 star-Michelin, but done so with a relaxed ease that I would personally prefer for any restaurant I go to. They will never get more stars because it doesn't fit into the classic fine dining box, which we thought was great. Why not have a stand with all your utensils stacked for each course and you just take them yourself each course? Its genius. The food here is INSANE. I don't mean insane service or presentation, but the insanity is in how novel, complex and delicious it was, even though the heart of each dish was its freshness and simplicity. The menu changes weekly, let me say that again - WEEKLY! So I guess there is no point in going into detail about each dish. You can opt for 5 or 6 dish menus for 63 or 71 Euros (!!!!). The small bites at the start of the meal just blew our minds that we would have been happy if that was all we had. But then they brought out some of the best country bread we've ever had (we almost never ask for more bread, but we asked for more twice even though we were getting stuffed), of course served with generous dollops of house made butter. Two of the dishes we had were just OK (mushroom and veal plates) - they were a bit heavy on acid and seemed to lack an identity, but the rest was divine. Who would think that tomato, grapefruit, burrata and saffron would just work together as if it were the most obvious combination on earth? The thing that crushed it for me was the dessert of Jasmine, Fig, Orange and Brioche, which really was ice cream, fruit on a light bread pudding but somehow unlike anything I've tasted before and was one of the best desserts I've ever had. Hubby can't eat milk or cream and we have never been to any fine dining restaurant that managed to accommodate this restriction as religiously or execute it as well as they did. On multiple occasions we were so paranoid and had to ask if the substitution ingredients really were dairy free because they tasted too freaking good. This restaurant is very sensitive to dietary restrictions and does not sweat anything, so you can go there with confidence that you won't feel like death afterwards. For 150 Euros or less, depending on what you are eating or drinking, you can have a truly delicous meal that will make you wonder "its so simple yet, how did they do that?". If I lived in Amsterdam, I'd be a regular here - we're definitely taking an extended layover just to eat here next time we transit through Schiphol, it is worth the effort.
Be the first to ReplyI came here on my birthday and my first day in Amsterdam.
After a missed flight I practically had to sprint there to make my reservation, and I am SO happy I did. Every single bite was incredible. I ate foods I would never normally order and I enjoyed every single dish. I tried to take photos of each course, as they were artfully prepared. However, with that in mind between courses, I don't think I managed to take even one photo without taking a bite first, I was just too excited for what they had in store. Also, I felt great after eating this meal. The menu on the day I came was mostly plant-based, filling, and absolutely delicious!!! It energized me to explore beautiful Amsterdam. I cannot recommend De Kas enough. The staff was exceptional and gave me a small pot of honey to make my birthday even "sweeter." It will always be a great memory.
Be the first to ReplyI love this place.
Everything was so fresh and tasty. The atmosphere is very open space with views of the garden. Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyStunning.
This was an absolute first for me, Michelin green in a green house setting, I'm in love! The space was so beautiful, bright, colorful, and as the sun set, it got better. Everything on the menu is fresh and veggie forward, they actually had meat on the prix fixe menu this night, sadly and unbelievably, it was our least favorite dish. Everything else, we didn't miss the meat at all. There were so many highlights, I don't know that I remember them all. All the dishes to start with all the dips and thingys for dipping, yum. Then came white beets, asparagus, and mushroom dishes. We also ordered off their a la cart menu, Uni and oyster with steak tartare, amazing. So amazing we ordered it twice. This was our first meal in Amsterdam and it was one of our favorites, possibly top 5 most memorable meals.

This was an absolutely amazing experience dining here at De Kas. I highly recommend checking out this beautiful restaurant. Situated inside an old city greenhouse now used for the restaurant ingredients, inside a park this restaurant is an absolute gem. The food is tasting menu and it is so delicious. Suzie was our waitress and she was great. I can't wait to come back again when we are in Amsterdam.

This felt like my most highly-anticipated meal so far in Amsterdam. I had heard of the greenhouse concept and was eager to try it. It was worth the bike ride to Oosterpark to arrive at the stunning building. Upon entering, we were greeted by a big bowl of apples free for the picking. On the left side, you could feast on your first glimpse of the famed greenhouse from which De Kas boasts as the origin of many of its dishes. The decor manages to be both warm yet spacious, intimate yet airy. The servers are smartly dressed, courteous, and informed on any listed dietary restrictions of the diners. I will never forget the amuse bouche of the tapioca cracker with celery aioli. HOW do they get it to be so light and fluffy? I was over the moon when the server said that the dip is dairy-free. They do a great job of accommodating and dietary restrictions or preferences. Each course was seasonal and interesting. The chef even went above and beyond to prepare a separate dairy-free dessert for me, and I really appreciated it. Lovely wine pairings, and in general such a good vibe. Thanks De Kas for a memorable meal.
Be the first to ReplyWow! Amazing experience having dinner in a greenhouse.
It's a pre fixed menu which constantly changes. Everything was delicious. I can't even describe it.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a lovely experience.
We enjoyed the property and wandering the garden and greenhouse. It was wonderful to know that our meal came from that fresh produce! It's a fixed menu based on what is seasonal and available. The chef is very creative with flavors. There was never salt and pepper on the table and I did not miss it. Each course was beautifully presented, very flavorful, and not too heavy. We were entirely pleased with our meal and the ambiance too. The servers are informative and pleasant. And in typical European style, they do not hover or rush you. You might need to help him when you need something. The city park was a treat to walk through after our meal. I highly recommend this entire experience!
Be the first to ReplyI have eaten at De Kas several times, and I like it so much
I have eaten at De Kas several times, and I like it so much I never miss an opportunity to take visitors here. The setting is very unusual, an actual working greenhouse. They grow much of the vegetables they serve right there. You can walk around and see all the soon to be eaten vegetables, and even see part of the kitchen. All of this is wonderful, but the real reason to go is the food of course. They have a daily fixed menu, everyone is eating a similar meal with fresh ingredient from that day only. They have quite the flair for presentation and taste. The food is wonderful, really wonderful. I've never eaten anything here that wasn't truly fantastic. If you have an opportunity to eat at De Kas while in the Amsterdam area, don't miss it. Truly memorable!
Be the first to Replywow!!! this is one of the most memorable meals of my life.
there is a greenhouse on site and it provides the majority of the food you get to enjoy with your meal. the menu is simply a list of all the ingredients of each of the courses you will eat. and that's all the information you're given. you choose 5 courses or 6 courses and let them do their magic. we did the 6 course meal and everything was fantastic. they don't allow for substitutions unless you have dietary restrictions. they were happy to provide these accommodations to our table. everything was fantastic and each course was better than the next. you just have to try it to know how good & special this restaurant is. i would return to amsterdam in a heartbeat & De Kas would be at the top of my list. just make sure you make reservations far enough out. worth 5 stars!

Great presentation, excellent service and selection of locally grown vegetables. However, the chicken was bland and the portion sizes are way too small for the price point - which was disappointing since we visited this Michelin starred restaurant for my wife's 30th birthday.

I have to start off by saying this was definitely such an awesome experience. Fine dining for sure! The entire atmosphere was awesome, airy and open. So much natural light gleaming through what felt like a green house. They grow a lot of their food fresh and you can definitely taste it in every bite. Every single thing they brought us was delicious! Most of the things we were served- if not all of it were veggies. And it was definitely things I wouldn't of ordered but I loved being served the unknown and loving the taste. There was no protein as far as meats served, which would of been much more filling. They did serve fish and it was DELICIOUS. Honestly if you're looking for a great time and an experience it's all worth it! Check it out, I recommend it. The price isn't over the top, the wine is delicious. Do it!
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful setting and ambience, and of course great concept
Beautiful setting and ambience, and of course great concept of farm to table, with most ingredients being grown by the restaurant. However, the food tasted only ok, (best thing was the fried tapioca appetizer, the rest were average), and service was very slow. Consequently I felt that the experience was overpriced. If you're looking for a special restaurant for an occasion, this is a good bet. If you're looking to taste really good food, I wouldn't recommend coming here.
Be the first to ReplyDe Kas is a uniquely Amsterdam restaurant, situated inside
De Kas is a uniquely Amsterdam restaurant, situated inside a greenhouse with a creative menu and thoughtfully prepared food you won't find elsewhere. Why not 5 stars? - Food: Fresh vegetables were crisp and tasty, but slightly oilier /saltier than what I salivated over at a similar restaurant Bak. - Service: Friendly, but definitely a place to take your time even when you're trying to get their attention :P maybe that's the American in me, but for our business lunch it took a bit too long. THE MENU? - For lunch: Prix fixe, 3 courses for 35 euros, add dessert or oysters at an additional price. THE FOOD (35 prix fixe): - SOURDOUGH bread, Free: SUPER yum- MUSTARD RICE PUFF W/celery, free: ALSO super yum, surprisingly the celery didn't overpower the mousse type dip it was in; very flavorful- CARROT FRITE AMUSE (MEH): didn't like the fried parts of this, I felt while tasty, was too oily- FRESH CARROTS (YAY): really enjoyed the fresh crispness of the carrot which seemed to be a hybrid carrot radish? - BEET + RADICCHIO (OK): flavorful beets, creamy burrata but the almost hummus-like sauce had a strong spice flavor to it (either coriander or hummus) that overpowered...- CHICKEN WING (GOOD): a bit too oily for my tastes as well, though flavorful and deboned; enjoyed the sauce it was served in - COD (OK): a bit too rich for my tastes, though cooked to perfection. Felt the sauce/fried kale were good but masked the cod, which should've been the masterpiece. TLDR: Would recommend, go for 3 courses, anticipate a long meal
