Terrific Ethiopian Dining Experience
I have not had a disappointing Ethiopian meal and this is my third Ethiopian restaurant I have dined at in Washington DC alone, but Das Ethiopian stands out. The restaurant is beautiful- white linen nice, although we chose to dine on the sidewalk. The service was attentive and appreciative of our patronage. The three of us all wanted the Vegetarian Sampler meal , so they tripled the order and served our meal from one large platter. I believe there were 8 different types of vegetables. The smells and vibrant colors were unlike other otherwise Ethiopian meals I have had in the past. The flavors were wonderful. My favorites included the eggplant, cauliflower and chickpeas, but everything was outstanding. Das is the best of the best in my opinion.

The food was rather simple, yet expensive (20 per cent tip was added automatically). We were left wondering why Michelin would recommend this place.

It was a magnificent experience at DAS, the food was excellent and so was the attention of the waitresses. I recommend ordering plates to share that way you can try different cooking and flavors. They have a good selection of wines to accompany the different dishes. We went with our 7-year-old daughter and the waitresses were very kind to her. I suggest making a reservation in advance since they are almost always crowded. A great option if you are visiting Washington DC and a good location in the Georgetown neighborhood!

Be the first to ReplyDelightful First Taste: Ethiopian Cuisine
This was my first experience with Ethiopian cuisine, and I found it somewhat similar to Moroccan dishes as itโs eaten with bread and by hand too . The food was delicious, the service was excellent, the atmosphere was pleasant, and the wait for the food was short.
Be the first to ReplyUNETHICAL AND RUDE
I unfortunately have to leave a negative review - BEWARE. I went here for dinner with a friend and we gave the server two credit cards to split the bill 50-50. The server took the bill sleeve with the cards, but then came back a few minutes later to say she could not split the bill because one of the cards fell out. We helped her look for it, but did not find it at the time, so she said she'd look after they closed and they could turn the lights on. I paid in full and left a 20% tip with another card. Days later, when I tried to follow up, the owner blamed ME for losing the card and refused to reimburse me for the lost card fee that I had to pay. Completely unacceptable.

Iโd heard re Das from watching โNo Passports Requiredโ w Marcus Samuelson. My friend and I decided to try Ethiopian, which we both liked. We were there just before the rush. We had the house salad, vegetarian sampler and chicken and beef sampler. Plenty of good food for both of us. Some dishes were a little spicy, but not too spicy. Our taxi driver had told us to ask for the organic injera. We asked and got both. Waitresses were friendly, and the owner was there checking on everyone and was also friendly. Iโd go back again, but make a reservation. It was packed when we left.

Ethiopian food met expectations. Especially liked the sambusa appetizer, the short ribs of the chicken and beef combo sampler, and the mixed vegetable entree. I might have relished what I had ordered more if I wasn't still full from lunch. Atmosphere and service were quite pleasant. The nearest restroom was OK, a bit small and not as comfortable as I would have liked, and it was just for one person at a time, for both male and female.

If you like Ethiopian food or want to try a new cuisine, this is the place to try. Great food and great service. Nice atmosphere. Street parking in residential area. Parking can be challenging to find. You may have to walk a few block.

Absolutely amazing food quality! A friend of mine and I ate here on a Friday evening. We didnโt have a reservation but they did have outdoor seating available and it was perfect. We ordered the meat sampler and the vegetarian sampler. Both dishes were so flavorful and truly amazing. Itโs served with a special bread that you can scoop up your food with. No silverware needed at this restaurant. Our waitress was very cheerful and she helped make our experience a pleasant one. I highly recommend stopping here.

To celebrate our 21 year olds birthday, we chose Das Ethiopian for its authentic Ethiopian cuisine and friendly atmosphere. We were not disappointed. The service was impeccable and the flavors amazing. Iโm personally not crazy about the texture of the angera bread but everyone else in our group liked it. Will return next time weโre in DC!

Great experience. The food is delicious and traditionally eaten with a special bread. The staff is extremely friendly and creates a very nice atmosphere.
Be the first to ReplyNot the best!
Not as spectacular as we were expecting. The staff are good, very attentive & professional, with a great welcome. This restaurant is one of the few that has โMichelinโ rating for many years so we were eager to try it but we found it just โokโ . The interior areas are basic, plain and simple, nice! The starters of prawn tibs and beef tibs were the best, each served with a curious roll of wet bread to pick up the meat with, the main plates of chicken and beef were pleasant but served cool / just warm, which we found curious. We questioned this with the waiting staff and were told this is correct! Whilst the dining room was fresh and bright, same cannot be said of the toilets which were dirty and unpleasant. We rated this place 4/10 on our table of 3 and were left wondering how it has the highly rated Michelin accolade.

The dinner was absolutely delicious and the service was friendly and warm. We would definitely go back and highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyNot so good
I was over Das restaurant in January, my first time here. I had Ethiopian food many times before so I knew what I was getting. We took 2 entrees, no appetizer and few drinks, food was ok nothing special, I even thought that it was heavy on the stomach and kind of feel uncomfortable for few hours after diner. Service was medium, nothing bad, nothing great. I had much better Ethiopian food in the past and will probably wont go back there. Many options in the DC area to eat Ethiopian food as it is one of the most populated Ethiopian community in the US, so I'm sure you can find a better place to go.
Be the first to ReplyWasn't Great This Time
Food just wasn't as good as we remembered it, and service was weak. Expensive for what was. They served us family style (at their recommendation) but they mixed meat and vegetarian meals on the same serving plate. Eating with our hands and only bread to pick it up, everything got massed together. Wasn't appetizing - everything seemed the same. Meals were about $21 +/- each.
Be the first to ReplyDon't eat the Beef Tibs
I went with 3 family members who are vegetarian. They had a great time. I ordered the Special Beef Tibs: fatty, chewy and stringy. I've had better steak at Ryan's (a low end family restaurant in case you don't know).
Be the first to ReplyA Novel Experience
Although I travel all over the world, this was my first experience with Ethiopian Cuisine. The food is both good and reasonably priced. There are no utensils. You use and very spongy bread to scoop up eat bite of your dinner. The bread is good, but quite filling. Parking is quite difficult in Georgetown, but I found street parking within 3 blocks of the restaurant. Its free after 7pm.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful Ethiopian food experience
We made reservations. This is a Michelin starred restaurant. This restaurant looked inviting when you enter. It has two floors. Tables are really close together. The menus are colorful. The front of house staff are nice and polite. We tried a great Ethiopian beer. Surprisingly they did not have a cocktail menu. Ordered a cosmo it was about $14. We started straight with main course. Asa fish fried with spices. Chicken dora wat, vegetables options, all with injera bread. We enjoyed the flavors. Its a lot of food, with the three of us we had left overs. Makes sure you eat the injera at the end, that soaks all the flavors. There are no utensils. You will be sharing a plate with family and friends. Keep your napkin close. We ended with a chocolate bomba that was hard to crack. It had strawberry, chocolate, pistachio icecream inside. We were hoping for some Ethiopian dessert. It was a nice experience
Be the first to ReplyEthiopian Cuisine Virgin
This was my first time trying Ethiopian Cuisine and I was impressed. First the staff was very friendly and helpful with the selection process and this was a party of Three Virgins. The food was outstanding and one of the three that was a vegan i was delighted to have many suggestions form the staff and I tried them all. The food was amazing and the desert was outstanding. The staff made this experience one to remember and at the end the owner came to our table to inquire if we had enjoyed the food. so if your in the DC area and want to experience Ethiopian Cuisine this would make a perfect choice.
Be the first to ReplyPoor: very overrated and super expensive for pretty tasteless food
We went there with reasonable expectations and ordered various dishes. Each was as tasteless as the other. Really poor. We had meat, fish, chicken, vegetables. All pretty tasteless. Actually, really really tasteless in some of our views. Then the check came and it was super expensive -- even taking into account the multiple dishes ordered. I cannot understand why this is highly rated? We have eaten in great restaurants across the world, so we re not novices to what counts as good and what is not. And this is not good in our opinion -- far, far from it. Will never ever go back.
Be the first to ReplyGood ethiopian experience
Food was great and very well seasoned - the lamb was on the chewy side however, a bit of a letdown. Dessert menu a bit of a letdown with "generic" profiteroles, ice-cream, etc.... Nice and refined atmosphere, smiling service, great jazz music.
Be the first to ReplyTerrific Ethiopian Food
We like Ethiopian food, and were delighted eating at DAS in Georgetown. We ordered the Mushroom Ingudai Tibs appetizer and two combination entrees, one chicken and beef and the other vegetarian. Our table was outside and service was very pleasant.

If you want to try something different , this is the place. If you donโt like using you fingers you can ask for a fork ๐. We combined an order of the meat and vegetarian combo plates for the two of us. Food is good and service friendly . After dinner you can walk around Georgetown . Very enjoyable evening !!
Be the first to ReplyTruly Remarkable
Having read reviews of Das prior to our visit, we had high expectations โ and those expectations were well exceeded. The food was spectacular and the service equally so. While we have visited many Ethiopian restaurants across the US, the flavors at Das were remarkably more vibrant and special. We look forward to returning on our next visit to the District.
