Everything was absolutely impeccable in terms of food
Everything was absolutely impeccable in terms of food quality and flavors that were true to Mexican cuisine... but in new combinations... I'm not a drinker but the waiter gave us the best tasting tequila to sip... on the house. If you have the money to spend, yes go for it!!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing.
Great flavors but small portions. Everything was so flavorful in the right ways. The salmon tostada, the octopus, the duck... so good. I wish I could eat here every week. I've been here twice and each time the service was excellent. Recommendations for food and drinks have been A+. I cannot wait until my next visit!

Omg Damian is consistently so, SO good! We've been here 5-6 times since they opened a few years ago and the service, food, and ambiance are all incredible. I'm honestly always surprised how I never have trouble getting a reservation here (unlike Bestia that's right across the street). The ambiance is wonderful for dinner and this is the perfect date night spot. Dim lighting, modern design, and beautiful tropical plants lining the backside of the tables indoors - what more can you ask for. Plus the service is amazing. The servers we've had are always so attentive, with courses coming out in a well-paced manner throughout the meal. The drinks are also incredible. They have a wide selection of Tequilas and Mezcals and amazing mixed drinks. On this most recent trip for an early Valentine's Day date night, we were a little disappointed that they had changed their menu since we used to love certain main courses (it looked like almost everything had been changed except for the guacamole and a few desserts - we were sad to see the pork belly taco main course go...). Regardless of the change in menu though, all the dishes we ordered were still delicious. For drinks, my boyfriend had the Que Sabor and I had a Mezcal Margarita. Presentation of the drinks was beautiful as always and they were so delicious. We ordered the guacamole, crudo de atรบn, and charred octopus huarache. The crudo was definitely the stand-out dish - the tuna was so fresh and buttery and everything that comes along with the tuna in the bowl compliments it so well (honestly, never would have thought to pair raw tuna with green olives and basil, but it worked). For mains, we shared the branzino and carne asada with a side of heirloom frijoles. The side was necessary along with the guacamole we ordered earlier and the 3 complimentary salsas to make our tacos. We appreciated that they kept the handmade tortillas coming. Out of the two dishes, the carne asada was the stand-out. It was truly cooked perfectly and was so flavorful. In all the times we've been here, we never have room for dessert, but one day we are determined to save room so we can try the hibiscus meringue!

I have to say, I agree with most of the reviews - good but overpriced. Really cool, chic, well decorated space. Noisy. The valet is nuts on a Saturday night, mostly because of Bestia across the way. We were seated right away. Nice, large round table. The sommelier came to the table (we're not wine drinkers) and described the cocktails. Majority are mezcal based. I'm not a mezcal fan, so I ordered a classic margarita. The menu is pretty small. Waiter took our orders. Drinks took forever to come. When they finally did, everyone's looked and tasted good. Mine (the margarita) tasted like it had been sitting on the counter, melting for a while. It would have tasted better at El Torito. Not even a lime to garnish it. I wanted to send it back, but we didn't see any wait-staff/sommelier for a while so I just drank it. When the waiter finally arrived, and asked how the drinks were, I told him mine was terrible, and he didn't know how to handle the information - basically just took it in and said "oh." Food was quite tasty but it is really expensive for what you get - even if it is elevated Mexican, it still is Mexican. Standout was the calamari appetizer, the Branzino entree and the duck carnitas entree. As others have said here, $98 for the duck carnitas is crazy, but it did taste great. The starter portions are tiny - there were 4 of us, and we each got a little bite of most things. I'm glad we went - nice decor and very tasty - but for the prices they charge, I'd expect more.
Be the first to ReplyBest high end Mexican food I've ever had.
Will come here again. Service was perfect, they cleaned our table every time we even had a crumb on it lol. This place has a very nice vibe to it. 5+ stars for me. Uni tostada and tamale was my favorite. Only thing is I choked on the green onion maybe it should be cut or maybe that's just my fault feb17,2024

Fantastic food and atmosphere! Went with a large group and everyone loved their dishes. Creative and very tasty. Can't wait to go back.

This restaurant is in the same plaza as Bestia, so parking is a bit tough if you don't want to do valet. Came here for dinner, we had been wanting to go here for quite some time after finding out that it's under the same restaurant as Pujol in CDMX. We had reservations and so we were able to be seated right away. Highly recommend making reservations as it gets quite busy. I loved the interior and ambiance of the restaurant. Unfortunately, the food and service wasn't as good as we hoped for and it wasn't worth the price. We got: -uni tostada ($20): the tostada and other ingredients overpowered the taste of the uni. -guacamole ($19): this was the best thing we ordered -ceviche ($28): decent but nothing amazing -octopus huarache ($32): served on tostada -lobster Al pastor ($48): good, but portion is very small -duck carnitas ($98): extremely fatty and duck flavor didn't stand out Cocktails were also extremely disappointing, we ordered the frozen yuzu, mandarina, and the Paloma. None of the cocktails were great, would not recommend the cocktail list here. Overall, wanted to love this place but disappointed. Would skip out, Bestia next door is a much better choice.
Be the first to ReplyTrying this place out for dinner reminded me why I don't
Trying this place out for dinner reminded me why I don't bother with fancy restaurants. Yes, the restaurant itself is gorgeous and modern. Service is great from start to finish. However, the food....is just ridiculously overpriced for what you get. Mind you, I'm born and raised in LA and grew up with the best Mexican food you can find outside of Mexico - but what's also great about Mexican food is that it's affordable, democratic, and accessible. This restaurant will impress you by how much they can overcharge you by 'elevating' some of their spin on classic dishes. You pay $30 for a tiny tostada - yes it's a unique and delicious tostada, but nothing that knocks me off my socks. Sure, it's cool they use fire ants for the sauce, but you cannot see or taste the difference. The swordfish was odd and underwhelming, and it was awkward learning how to assemble a taquito with it every time. The shockingly tiny glass of $10 agua fresca looked nice but honestly didn't taste any better than one I can get from my local street vendor. Their $20 guacamole also didn't taste any more special than what I get at Chiptotle - it was actually pretty bland and flavorless for me. I also really hate paying $5 for water and 4% for staff health insurance. With the exorbitantly high prices that they overcharge you with already from their menu, I'm sure management can afford to pay for their own staff's 'wellness' and not kick the bill to the customer. Ridiculous. It was cool checking this trendy place out, but I would never spend my hard-earned money here - I felt ripped off at every opportunity and still left feeling hungry.

This was my 4th time there, and I just love the food and the vibes inside. The service is great, they have a lot of employees, so even when it's busy, your server manages to check in with you quite often. Plus, they even fold your napkin if you step away for a sec! We came back because I was craving their duck breast steak (duck al pastor), but they discontinued it...! It was such a bummer but we ordered Duck Carnitas instead and it was pretty good as well. Not sure if I'll be back again since they don't do the duck breast anymore, but overall, it's definitely a cool spot to check out.
Be the first to ReplyI'm surprised at the reviews here.
The food is average at best. Definitely trying too hard. The ambience is great (except for the nutribullet that was blending up drinks at the bar which overpowered the music and our voices... why?!) the space is beautiful inside. The service is ok. They take forever to get your orders but are over eager to clean and are picking up plates that still have food on them. The chicken was the worst. $50 for what was described as a boneless chicken breast but I'm sure was thigh meat. Steak was so tough and undercooked to how we ordered. The ceviche was great. Guacamole was good. Octopus terrible - dry sliced on the masa. Cauliflower elite terrible, watery cauliflower with no sauce. $400 for three people with drinks. So not worth it.
Be the first to Reply4th time here, and this place never disappoints.
Sure, it's quite expensive , but the quality is more than there . The cocktails are my favorite cocktails in all of LA, elegant, herbal, refreshing, balanced, never too much sweetness. A harmonious balance. Their mezcal list goes on and on, and they have quite a few Mexican wines.. Food: we indulged on the duck carnitas , rich , decadent , and quite filling. We also had the guacamole , beet salad , octopus, and uni tostada... also banana leaf flan .... We left so full, even took the carnitas home.... The interiors are stunning, music not too loud, and friendly staff. David was our server tonight, very friendly and knowledgeable about the food and drinks.. 300 total for two people plus tip...
Be the first to ReplyYou MUST, I REPEAT YOU MUST make reservations or you'll end
You MUST, I REPEAT YOU MUST make reservations or you'll end up at a high table rubbing elbows with other patrons. 4/5 - Ambiance was good the music playing on the background was excelente (all Mexican genre). 5/5 - Service was great David along with the entire staff were friendly and knowledgeable on the menu and chef. 10/10 - Food was beyond my expectations. The menu is very limited to 12-15 items (if I'm correct) we chose to my opinion the best tasting plates. The drinks were excellent, we had the Margarita Vodka and Mezcal and finally Que sabor. To start the give you tostadas with this amazing Mole w/pipian. We ordered the salad, ceviche, and the carne asada. We finished with the banana flan the flan was good but the caramel was just overpowering so we set it to the side we scraped it off (I'm not a fan of caramel). I WILL SAY. IT WAS A BIT OVER PRICED. Around $200 for 3 plates and 3 drinks. But as you know you paid for what you get. Quality of food and great service.

The menu changes but the food here is consistently tasty.

Starting with absolutely terrible service. Reservations don't matter. One person at our party was running late and they made us wait at community table, literally two steps from our reserved table until everyone arrived. The drinks mostly consist of ice and cheap mezcal. Server brought drinks we didn't order and then add those to the bill. But the worst part was the food. One tiny piece of uni on a huge bad of greens for $32, and so on. Quality of products is terrible. The duck carnitas for $98 was pure salt with pickled something on a top, in case, probably, it wasn't salty enough. Could've been anything with this amount of salt. Everyone at our party was extremely sad and disappointed and having all kind of aftertaste and heartburn. First time in my life writing bad review, but this place was just shockinfly bad.
Be the first to ReplyDoes Damian allow doggos? Yes, their patio is dog friendly.
Please ensure your pup is well behaved out of courtesy for other diners and staff. If you're looking for a restaurant that offers a creative and unique twist on traditional Mexican dishes, then Damian is the perfect spot for you. From the moment you step in, you'll be greeted by the friendly and helpful staff who are more than happy to assist you with any questions you may have.Damian's wine offerings standout, with great sommeliers on staff to help you select the perfect pairing for your meal. But don't let that overshadow the incredible food on offer here. Two standout dishes are the duck al pastor and pescado a la brasa. The duck al pastor is a delicious and creative take on the classic pork al pastor, with succulent slices of duck served with pineapple, onion, and a variety of spices. Meanwhile, the pescado a la brasa is a grilled fish dish that's perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. But it's not just these classic dishes that make Damian stand out. They also offer unique dishes like geoduck and mussels escabeche, which are a must-try for any foodie looking to experience something new.Despite not being a dessert person, I found myself thoroughly enjoying every bite of Damian's hibiscus meringue. The flavors were well-balanced, and the texture was perfect. The meringue itself is light and airy, with just the right amount of sweetness. But what really sets this dessert apart is the addition of hibiscus, which adds a unique and delicious floral flavor. Overall, Damian is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a unique dining experience with excellent food and wine offerings. The friendly service, creative dishes, and knowledgeable staff all combine to create an unforgettable meal.

More laid back than Cosme or Pujol, Damian finds Jesรบs "Chuy" Cervantes and Enrique Olvera viewing Mexican food through a California lense with clean and concise flavors but a pricepoint so laughable that by the time they add 4% to "support fair wages" guests will already be scratching their heads wondering if a flight to Mexico City just for dinner is a better value.
Be the first to ReplyWould have loved to give this place 5 stars but the food
Would have loved to give this place 5 stars but the food failed. Date night: 328$ +50 tip. Food: 5 plates 3 drinksI suggest you all find another mexican place to eat. . I promise you will find better else where. Food here is not up to par with pricing. Everything is overpriced and not worth it. Only reason Im giving 3 stars is due to the staff, all well educated on menu and owner and history of the Chef and his background.
Be the first to ReplyWe ate at Damian by total accident.
We were trying to get into Bestia but the wait was so long. We decided to try, we had guacamole, mole tamales, and fish tacos. I've never been a big fan of tamales, I think they're a bit heavy but these were light and fluffy. Everything was delicious, ambience had good vibes, the only complaint are the cocktails. They are served in a plastic clear cup, looks cheap, and not filled all the way up. For the cost of cocktails these days they should put a special touch to them. Otherwise I would highly recommend this place.
Be the first to ReplyAgree with most of the 2-3 star reviews here.
The location is cool (Arts District), you get that back alley/hidden gem type of vibe. The interior was interesting with the common warehouse chic lay out this part of town tends to have. The food, overall was good, but there were several reasons why I found it overhyped/over priced. First, I think most of the plating was off.. as one reviewer said, "the bowls for the ceviche and guacamole were way too deep". I concur. The functionality was way off on these dishes. Nearly had my whole hand in the Guac bowl before I got to its contents. The Tlayuda looks like something you'd order at CPK or Olive Garden. The visual aspect of a dish, especially from a Michelin rated chef, are nearly as important as the other senses. The uni tostada was quite simply a tostada with a Caesar salad and uni served on top. Nothing unique here at all. The highlights of the night were the lobster Al pastor and duck carnitas. The lobster is a very small portion, the duck was hefty (compared to other dishes). With a price tag of $98 for the duck I would hope it would be somewhat substantial. Dessert we had the banana leaf flan and hibiscus meringue. The banana flan was over powered by the toasted sesame and the meringue was average to good. All in all, with only 3 drinks ordered in total, between 5 people we walked out around $175/person. *one last note I'll make is that however great the staff was (and they were great!) most were wearing masks. The point I'm trying to make has nothing to do with my, or anyone's, opinion of wearing masks in public. The problem was that when dishes were served we could barely understand what the server was saying about the dish. I know how important this is to the experience. I've been to many Michelin rated restaurants and worked in one for many years. The explanation of a dish is a huge part of the dining experience. The chef typically wants certain things explained and conveyed when serving certain menu items. They also, in some instances, will give direction in how to consume the dish as well. Ex.. "start with a bite size piece of lobster, then a small dollop of pineapple fraiche and finish with the cilantro". Similar to when a sushi chef tells you whether or not to use soy sauce when serving certain things from the menu.
Be the first to ReplyThe brunch menu is limited.
We ordered most everything on there. The guacamole was the best thing on the menu. The fried chicken was super sweet. It was dipped in sugar water it seemed. The tuna tostada had a funky spread under it that none of us liked and the Caesar salad was not great. The burrito was good. But not memorable in any way. The corn was okay. All in all, no need to go back.
