Outstanding food, highlight of our foodie trip!
Had read great reviews of Compere Lapin and even though it didn’t seem like “traditional” NOLA-style food, we made a reservation. In hindsight, New Orleans has a heavy Caribbean influence, so this fits right in with the food scene! We started with the fried pig ears which were like really decadent bacon, very tasty. The green papaya salad was a great change of pace after that, full of complex and exciting flavors. We shared the goat curry and fried chicken with coconut grits. They both blew us away. I particularly enjoyed the chicken and grits— the coconut was such a great accompaniment to the super crispy chicken and honey. I almost didn’t order it because, I mean, fried chicken is fried chicken, right? I was very glad to be proven wrong. The curry was a powerhouse of flavor and slowly building spices. We will be back the next time we visit, though it’s not going to be soon enough!

Heard it was so good... and it was! Outstanding service and wonderful food. Small portions but creative, unique food. Worth a visit!
Be the first to ReplyThis is an experience unlike any other and defines what the best tastes like. Chef Nina is a genius.
Chef Nina is extremely talented and creates unique culinary treasures that are the centerpiece of the experience. After being all over the world and not realizing that the best was right here at home in New Orleans, she amazed us. Feel free to go right down the menu and order anything. I challenge you to eat the things you normally would not. We ordered things twice and Chef Nina wouldn't let that happen without sending something to send us into trying to figure out a favorite again. I'm not kidding, this is a very carefully devised culinary experience that will leave a deep and beautiful impression of what "amazing" really means. Roxy and the staff lay a solid foundation by working seamlessly together where details matter. I'm off the hook if you miss this.
Be the first to ReplyDon't go here if you want to talk with fellow diners
Good food, but the music was so loud and the acoustics so poor that we had to spend the meal shouting at each other to have something even resembling a conversation.

While visiting New Orleans, my husband and I eagerly anticipated dining at Compère Lapin. However, our experience was marred by disappointment. Upon entering, our waitress Francesca greeted us with a condescending demeanor that immediately soured our expectations. Her recommendations lacked enthusiasm and detail, failing to inspire us to explore the menu further. Surprisingly, even the water server provided better service than her. His suggestions made us salvaging and ending up ordering what he recommended. Francesca's attitude, tone, and lack of attention to detail regarding the food ultimately led us to leave early, feeling let down. Everyone has off days, but it's essential to consider how one's attitude can impact a diner's experience.
Be the first to Replydelicious evening in a delightful restaurant
Very good Restaurant. Very good Wait staff. Ordered the appetizer special (deviled eggs (with crab and caviar), the main course special: Lobster Ravioli and desert: Rum cake with Meringue. Wow! what a meal! Delicious. Evening wine pairings were very good. Highly Recommended! we will be back!
Be the first to ReplyGood but inconsistent
We visited twice during our stay in NOLA opting for drinks and food at the bar. The experience was mixed. Both times we visited the two bartenders who attended us barely made eye contact let along felt friendly. This was spared by their co-workers who were incredibly generous in their help deciding on food and drink. We enjoyed the fish dip with housemade Crackers, salad and fried chicken for shared plates. Those dishes are listed favorite to least favorite. On our second visit there was no fish dip which was disappointing bc it was very cravable. I would to back but would check the menu which is very small and can be limited. I might suggest that the restaurant managers revisit service standards. Our visit to NOLA was marked by such incredible service across all neighborhoods, for the price and food quality, service needs to match when there is so much competition. People come out for the full experience.
Be the first to ReplyGood informal place in the warehouse district
We had an excellent breakfast at Compere Lapin in the Old 77 Hotel, and so returned for dinner. The setting is a very pleasant version of 'warehouse chic' - brick walls, exposed beams, lots of wood. The menu is small but quality is high. I particularly recommend the hush puppies, but there are several good starters and main courses. Our only complaint about this meal was that it was extremely cold. New Orleans was having unusually cold weather and the restaurant simply didn't manage to adjust.
Be the first to ReplyNot Worth It! Overpriced! Would Not Recommend!
Forced to take a tasting menu of 4 courses with one a small 1/2 a deviled egg, another a dessert of a sliver of cake with sorbet, was TOTALLY underwhelmed and hungry when I left. The only saving grace was the service. I’ve been here before but will not be back nor recommend it to any other visitors to New Orleans. Plenty of other fine dining experiences.
Be the first to ReplyGreat time at Compere Lapin!
The six of us (3 couples) had a great time and nice meal at Compere Lapin. We started with excellent cocktails--I think the hits were the Last Stag and Albatross. We split a bunch of appetizers and mains, including hushpuppies, biscuits, tuna ceviche, fried chicken, curry goat, and scialatielli. Service was great.
Be the first to ReplyWhat's the "4% kitchen charge" all about?
Highly touted (Top Chef, James Beard, etc.) establishment. Small American menu with Caribbean influences. Blackened pig ears were an interesting appetizer. Curried goat and scialatielli were both delicious, but disappointingly small portions. Service is prompt and very cordial. Loud. Try to get a table away from the bar. Tacked onto the bill was a 4% "kitchen charge", which was never explained, and was not appreciated.

Seriously amazing. Book a room because you will eat yourself into a coma. The staff is lovely and skilled. The crafted cocktails are delicious and visually enticing. The bartenders, bar backs and waitstaff and manager all move in tune with one another. The food was outstanding. The hush puppies were delicious. The curries goat was perfection, the goat was so tender, a hint of heat, the sweet potato gnocchi were velvety and the cilantro gave the rich sauce a touch of brightness. The mango brûlée was not overly sweet, the perfect ending to a decadent meal. Breakfast in the morning was perfect. I just grabbed a juice and empanada on the go one morning. When I had more time I really enjoyed the open faced breakfast sandwich and cappuccino! Delicious!
Be the first to ReplyGreat appetizers!
Service was outstanding even during a very crowded prime time. Food was equally amazing. Great spot!

Bacchus night dinner. 3rd year in a row. Consistent service, but food for our group of 5 was average. Oyster were excellent, after that things went downhill. Pig's were too salty to eat, a shrimp dish was very overcooked and shrimp could't be peeled. Salads were sos so. Didn't receive the food value we paid for.

Not sure if I should start with the excellent food or attention to detail server. My wife and I were looking for a quick meal before a parade and wound up lingering because of the wonderful experience. We had chef’s (James Beard Awarded) red snapper dinner special. I wish I remembered our server’s name because he did all the little things that made us feel pampered. Will definitely come back.
Be the first to ReplyVery Good, but Could Have Been Outstanding.
Husband and I ordered the $30/doz. oysters. Tasty, but tiny. For entrees, we both selected the curried goat. Mine was very good. My husband couldn’t eat all his, so I finished it off. I noticed immediately that his had tomatoes, while mine had not, and his was delicious. I asked the waiter about it, and he said the dish was equally portioned out. That’s fine, and I get it, but if a dish is supposed to have tomatoes, it should. I missed out on a better culinary experience without them. On a positive note, all service was outstanding.

I loved Nina Compton on Top Chef and was really excited to visit her restaurant. It's very dark and we needed to use the light on our phones to be able to read the menu. Menu is small, and leans heavily toward seafood. I had the goat and sweet potato gnocchi, which was very good. No restrooms in the restaurant - you have to go down the hall to the restrooms located in the adjoining hotel. Service was good. No separate checks, which is not great for friends traveling together. And when we received the bill, there was an extra charge that said Kitchen 4%. What does that even mean? Glad I went, but wouldn't make a return trip.
Be the first to ReplyLoud & look at the menu before you go!
Attentive Service, Very Loud. Good for friends, groups or couples that dont want to talk to each other. Ordered: Hushpuppies (very salty), Hamachi (superb, best ) They ony offer 4 entrees(?) Jerk Chicken was delicious, very spicy, but difficult to eat since its served whole (maybe chop it in pieces or slices?) Shrimp/Pasta was good, not great and almost like a soup. We didnt have dessert because the people next to us were so loud (and overserved), I just wanted to get out of there.
Be the first to ReplyIf you want perfection, look no further.
This dinning experience was flawless. The server was excellent, the cocktails were innovative, the word "gourmet" was invented to describe the food here. The timing between the courses was spot- on. I'd almost forgotten what a perfect dinning experience was like.

This was an an extraordinary experience. The service was impeccable, the kind you wish you had everytime you go to a fine restaurant but rarely do. The atmosphere is lovely, beautiful paintings hung all around by a local artist. The food....wonderful!
Be the first to Replywhat a great surprise
We were staying next door at the Kimpton hotel and wanted an outside place to have dinner (we had our dog with us.) No one was eating outside, July in New Orleans... they graciously allowed us to eat outside which I know can be a hassle for staff. The server could not have been nice and so professional! There were so many temping things on them menu we decided to just order several small dishes so we could enjoy tastings. Every dish we tried was fantastic! We were so pleased with everything - service, food and for accommodating us, thank you! We will certainly return next time we are in NOLA.

The physical space was fabulous but they lost us after that. The service (minus the hostess, she was a delight) was ok, not nearly what one would expect at a restaurant of its caliber. Out of the five dishes we tried, only the crawfish and cauliflower soup exceeded expectation. The strawberry panna cotta with rum cake was also delicious. I would not go back though.
Be the first to ReplyMore shrimp, please!
Creative and delicious food, expertly delivered by cheerful servers, in an attractive rustic atmosphere. I was especially delighted with the whole broiled shrimp in Calabrian chili oil butter sauce. This has to be one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. If you are in the warehouse district, don’t miss Compere Lapin.
Be the first to ReplyBest food in NOLA!
The service was great and the food was outstanding! From the appetizer to the desert we were delighted with each course. The presentation was pleasing to the eye and the flavors were wonderful. We ate a lot of good food in NOLA but this was the best!!
Be the first to ReplyNot worth the hype
eWe were SO excited to dine at this highly-rated restaurant and were therefore disappointed that it didn't live up to the hype. This upscale eatery is in a really cool space, but the vibe was pretentious and our server was clearly unhappy about being there. She made it known that she doesn't usually work the dinner service and therefore couldn't recommend any of the menu items. Nevertheless, the food was pretty terrific, including delicious cauliflower & crawfish soup and curried goat with sweet potato gnocchi.
