Wine Night Disaster
From the moment we walked in, no hostess to even say hello a phone ringing off the hook... to the hostess telling us we would be seated quickly...after 15 mins we decided to go ahead and get drinks at the bar since it was not quickly. The bartender a male with a shaved head was rude and couldn't be bothered to entertain us much less be pleasant while getting our order. We had to ask for wine list and menu despite standing at the bar at the well forba few moments. So neither the hostess nor the bartender gave us a menu/ bar list.. and no seltzer or low carb optio for the diabetic in the group besides a mixed drink...
He got the wines splashed all over the glasses spilling our portioned wine on the bar and didn't bother to top off what he spilled or wipe the glasses or the bar from his spillage. We ordered 5 glasses of wine, to witch he merely poured and walked away didn't hand to us or let us know which glass was which... no thank you nothing....
We were finally seated in the vault... holes in the chair cushion, holes in the plaster and pain on the wall...
The waitress seemed disappointed we already had drinks from the bar with us... she went into the menu for the evening... let me preface with our friends saying they have great specials and so many wonderful options, so we were excited to hear their daily special... the waitress... we have no specials today.... soup of the day is miss mushroom soup.... 👍
I noted on the menu that there is a nice bold print area letting you no that substitutions are at the chefs discretion... I would expect that at a higher end restaurant, not a place where my waitress has facial peirc8ngs, top two buttons of shirt unbuttoned and her hair all over, and holes in chairs cushions and plaster falling off the walls....
Menu had no vegetarian or vegan options so I asked if I could order the sides only from the main entree... the server was visibly concerned about asking the chef that... and stuttered all over herself she would see if that was OK could I just get the goat cheese ravioli and they could not sprinkle the prosciutto on top... I asked to ask the kitchen if I could just get the sides please.... she Saud she would ask reluctantly...
We order the fried green tomatoes and salads. My daughter and I both ordered the everything wedge salad... all three a disappointment...
The fried green tomatoes are clearly a frozen product that they charge way too much for and the Pimento cheese atop was more mayonnaise and white shredded cheese than Pimento or seasoning or cream cheese... the balsamic reduction it also offered on the menu was but a few drops beneath the green tomatoes...
The everything salad was supposed to have everything seasoning and a housemade ranch dressing. Both salads came without the everything seasoning and were topped with a dill dressing... it also boasted on menu that it was heirloom tomatoes in the everything wedge salad... again it was not as noted... but cherry tomatoes and lemon cherry tomatoes.
We had to stop waitress for water and more wine, bread was brought out very late in the dining experience...
I asked for a glass of stiff red when the meal was served... she told me the whiskey barrel wine was stiff at 14%, I explained I meant a very dry red wine, not boozy... she then offered the malbec.... the response to get a glass of red wine with the meal wasthe bartender is too busy I will just order and bring now... for red wine that was OK it got to breathe a little... but had then been a cocktail or white wine for the meal, it was going to sit while I finished the first drink for another 10 minutes etc and water down or warm...
Meals arrived and I was granted the sides, not that the waitress ever told me the chef was okay with my request...
A plate of root vegetables underseasoned or not seasoned at all... and half very undercooked. Chimichurri sauce was okay but not anything to brag about....
My husband's 30+ dollar lobster cakes were again disappointing at best and the asparagus was over cooked. The manager I'm guessing came to clear our table, she didn't introduce self say anything and was not in black clothing with an apron so I assume she was a manager... as we were sharing phone to show videos and pictures across the table she actually put herself in front of the phone to grab a plate... no excuse me or anything... we had to move our arms and stop our conversation for her to clear... not excuse me or pardon me or anything... while she cleared the entree dishes... no water and empty wine glasses all over the table... she did not offer to get us water or more drinks or anything, merely got in the way interrupted and left.
Coldwater Cafe wants to be high end cooking but they are nothing close to the service or products or recipes and plating needed for their ego. Extremely disappointed we drive an hour for the mess of a meal and service...
Worst Experience at Coldwater Ever!
The first reason for the poor review is the fact that they would not substitute the asparagus for brussel sprouts for my husband nor the with mashed potatoes for the rice for my friend. This strips it of its neighborhood gem designation.
Next, we were told it was a new menu but two of the prices on the bill were higher than the menu price, a particular pet peeve of mine. Worst of all was the plated food, I have never in my life seen such a small portion of salmon, I was surprised they were able to keep it upright. It was less than an inch wide and maybe 3 ounces. Along with the three asparagus on my plate, it made for a very pitiful meal for the menu price of 29.95 but especially for the 31.95 we were charged. They are now in another category, no longer a neighborhood find, but a restaurant that is way too impressed with itself and forgotten the customers that got it there.
Best mussels
My husband and I started with the mussels appetizer. Best mussels ever. Dinner was very good also filet and Chilean seabass. We will be back again.
Be the first to ReplyGreat dinner with friends
Dinner with friends. Food and service were excellent. Salads were tasting and our friend thought the potato leek soup was outstanding. We shared a filet and our friends shared the pork. Our filet was one of the best we ever ate. Each dessert was excellent. Our waiter was attentive but not overbearing. Will go again and again.
Be the first to ReplyGreat all the way around!
Probably the best birthday lunch I ever had! All though not on my exact birthday, my companion and I were treated like VIPs. Food was excellent and service was outstanding. Couldn't ask for a better experience.
Be the first to ReplyGreat place, will come again
Food was excellent, presentation beautiful. Server inattentive and therefore slow. Our reservation was at 815… so restaurant clearing out… no good excuse for what we experienced…
Be the first to ReplyGreat food and atmosphere. Sub-par service
We had the Brussels sprouts, pumpkin bisque, filet (all excellent), and ravioli (very good). Our partners had the Caesar salad (with tomatoes?), pork ribeye, and lobster crab cakes (excellent). The cocktails were very good as well. However, the service left a lot to be desired.
Our Open Table reservation left no doubt that we were expected to take about 90 minutes to dine. Had that been true, we’d have never seen our main courses. We LOVE leisurely dining, but not when it’s forced upon us by slow an inattentive service.
With 6:00 reservations and requested seating in a particular room, we were pushed to an alternate table due to previous diners still being at “our” table…understandable in retrospect. Our meal finished at 8:45. Cocktails showed up over half an hour after we ordered them, along with the wine we’d requested for dinner. The first two of our three courses arrived simultaneously, well after all of us had resorted to water and our dinner wine. It was almost an hour after those courses were served—and never cleared—that the mains showed up. Our waiter, Megan, could not have been more clear that we were nowhere near the top of her priority list.
We were there for our friend’s birthday and, when presented with the dessert menu then, 20 minutes later being asked whether we were interested, instead of being offered a complimentary birthday dessert, we’re offered one only after the birthday girl asked about it, and then only offered the least expensive option.
At a restaurant with this reputation and price level, we were quite underwhelmed by the service. It is a favorite of our birthday girl, so I expect we’ll return. I only hope next time the service matches the reputation and the price level.
Very enjoyable outside lunch
My wife and I went here for a lunch with a friend. We sit outside to be more safe and they have a very quaint area between the buildings with a cover which was great. The service was very good and the food was very tasty. The menu was not very long but there was plenty to consider. Our friend had the Asian Crispy chicken salad which was very large and good. She told them to leave off the spicy sauce which they did. My wife had a "meatless" salad with sweet potato as the "meat", but it was a small portion but good. I had the Coldwater burger with cheddar cheese and I had them put the special apple bacon jam on the side. There was a breeze and just a few other tables outside. Very nice setting and food.
Be the first to Reply15th Anniversary made great.
My wife and I went there for our 15th Anniversary dinner. People have recommended this restaurant over the year and just not got around to it. We tried the Oakwood Dinner Club and the Pine club. While both were good, we felt like we didnt get the experience for how much we paid. Well not so here. It was quiet and intimate, but still had atmosphere. The food was flavorful and fresh. While not cheap food at all we walked away with the feeling of an excellent dinning experience. Our waiter Zac was exceptional and would recommend him if you want a great dining experience. I rarely give 5 stars , so this was for sure a place to go for a nice dinning experience.
Be the first to Reply1 Year Wedding Anniversary Dinner With Friends
Our friends had stopped here for dinner a couple months back and wanted to bring us there to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I must say that the meal and service was probably the one of the best I have ever had. For an appetizer we started with the Crab Cakes which I recommend. For the main course I had the Salmon which was amazing my wife had the Rigatoni which was also amazing. My only issue is the menu is very limited in choices with meal size being rather small. I am glad that I have been here but not sure if would choose again
