Wonderful view but disappointing food
Wonderful view but disappointing food. The Whole Crispy Baja Striped Bass was bland and uninteresting with no flavor and was dry. The staff and manager were fantastic as was the service. However we were so disappointed with the fish that we may never go back . For over $130 each it was poor value for money
Be the first to ReplyCold and stale food. No quality control.
Ordered ceviche and it was bland and carne asada tacos and they were served stone cold. Order churros to go and when I got home I found that they were beyond stale. I do not understand how a place can stay in business with such poor quality control. Not returning.

We recently enjoyed a birthday celebration here, with lovely views of the harbor! I had already scanned the menu a couple of days before and knew I was going to have a Coconut Margarita which was 5 stars. We had 7 people in our party, everyone ordered different items from the menu and all were delicious. I had the Heirloom Tomato salad and the Chicken Tinga Empanadas both tasty. The chips/salsa they brought went fast and were super fresh. They brought me a little birthday Flan dessert with a candle which was a nice touch. The views are outstanding of the city.

One of our favorite restaurants. A great selection of up scale Mexican food with wonderful service and the best views in San Diego.

The view of the bay, downtown, and the Coronado bridge from your table makes for an incredible setting for your lunch/dinner. The white corn & poblano soup is a must! We always get a bowl and split it as a starter. I also love the blood orange scallop aguachile for an appetizer. It’s the perfect blend of sweet and spicy.

Three of us ordered the salmon, I had steak. It was excellent and prepared exactly to order. The salons were very good but had too much sauce (according to my wife). Our server was terrific and the view at dinner is magical as the sun sets and the light illuminates San Diego in a golden glow.
Be the first to ReplyGreat View, Okay Food, Bad Reservation Policy!
Beautiful location, great view and okay food. C Level next door has better food and service but you can't beat the view from Coasterra! I was a bit taken back by their cancellation policy, however. It seems way out of line. They charge $25 per person if you cancel less than 48 hours in advance. I think asking for cancellation within 24 hours in advance is reasonable, or a $25 charge for the whole table, but $25 per person within 48 hours is outrageous! What if someone gets sick? I guess they want diners with COVID dining there. LOL! Although this didn't impact us specifically since we did not have to cancel, I think this is a horrible policy and will rethink patronizing this establishment in the future over this.

Excellent view. I stopped there on my way to the airport. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. They provide plenty of chips to start off. Good drink selection. I highly recommend the salmon. I will definitely be back next time I’m in SD.
Be the first to ReplyNeed a real Mexican Menu....
I have a boat in the Harbor andI really wish this was a better restaurant!!! Like a "REAL" Mexican Restaurant.... Yikes if this was Javier's from UTC Mall they would be packed 24/7 but locals know the food totally sucks so they dont get our business.... so sad.... but so bad !!!
Be the first to ReplyGreat Location, OK Food
We selected this location with hopes of seeing a beautiful sunset which was not to be. It is in a great location and the restaurant staff were top notch. The food was okay and I would not pick the restaurant for the food. (There was something burnt on my plate and that was all I could smell.) But the service and location were great.
Be the first to ReplyChristmas Dinner - NOT WORTH IT
First off, the staff was great! All hard working, super friendly, and working hard to make it a nice evening. But the food!!!!! It was mediocre at best. Totally average, not very tasty food. I know buffets are sometimes hard to do but with their SUPER HIGH pricetag for the Christmas Day buffet, it was SOOOOOO far from worth it. I honestly felt a little ripped off. Maybe it's better as a traditional restaurant but I certainly wouldn't do any special buffet meals here ever again.

It’s not cheap, but worth it! The salad with Blackened Salmon was delicious! The soup was good too! Our waitress was awesome and helped us make great selections!
Be the first to ReplyService lags a bit behind delicious food
Recently visited on a Monday at Happy Hour. We ordered the Deborah's Margarita which were delicious and not overpowering. The drinks were enjoyed while snacking on a fresh basket of corn tortilla chips and a mild salsa. Our table was on the patio and everyone was well spaced, so we felt comfortable as we enjoyed our visit. For dinner we ordered Mary's Roasted Chicken and a Caesar Salad which we split. The dishes were enough for two. The food nicely split in the kitchen and well plated. The chicken was roasted and charred just enough with a fluffy garlic rice and roasted broccolini. Of course the salad was crunchy and fresh. While the food was excellent, I found the table service a bit lacking. For instance, when our drinks were brought to the table, the server tossed the coaster onto the table instead of placing it on the table. The food when brought was served from the wrong side of the table as the server reached over the table to place the dishes. A bit awkward. Other than that, the visit was nice and we expect to return hoping the table service will match the delicious food.

Probably one if the best restaurants ever in my life, the location was perfect as you see stunning city skyline views, and the customer service is A plus , so after being seated and being amazed by the views I thought the food would probably would not be as good and its was very delicious. we had the fish and rice with beans and it was delicious, the presentation was unique and overall is was so good we went again before we went back home as we were on vacation. outside they have a nice fire place and keeps you warm . If ever back in San Diego it will be the first restaurant I will visit again .
Be the first to ReplyGreat Margaritas
Coasttera has been one of my favorite Margarita spots since they opened. Perched on the waterfront, the restaurant has amazing views of the San Diego bay. The cocktails here are deliciously dangerous, no matter which of their specialty drink you decide on. Their margaritas as one of my favorites because they’re made with fresh in-house sweet & sour, fresh citrus, resulting in a well balanced glass of goodness. Their Coconut Margarita is also a delectable hit with many of the patrons. The food here is good. It may not be your traditional Mexican food, but it’s tasty and slightly elevated to match the restaurant’s atmosphere. I usually sit at the bar for drinks and appetizers, so my review is more reflected of the bar. Service has always been good at the bar and the one time I had lunch at a regular table. There is something about their house made salsa that is served with their heated chips that makes it hard to stop eating. One of the best part about Coasterra is the outside bar in the rear of the restaurant, which sit right on the water. That was the best spot to relax with drinks and food, while enjoying the breeze and views. Unfortunately that section has been closed off for a few years now and only open up for special events. Why they don’t utilize the best part of the restaurant is beyond me. And even though the main bar is far from the water’s edge or breeze, their margaritas keep me coming back - just not as often because sitting outdoors by the water is something us San Diegans love to do most of the year.
Be the first to ReplyNice ambiance next to harbor
I had always wanted to come here but on previous attempts there was no parking available other than valet. We did once walk in to take a peek & it looked lovely with a sunny patio. So when we returned to use a gift card in June I must say I was surprised to see the entire patio was shaded by an awning. That was a bummer as I remember how sunny it looked when I first visited. Too bad they did not leave a portion of the patio open to sunshine. Aside from that, of course, the bayside views were lovely and the food was good. Coasterra advertises as Mexican cuisine but it seems to be transitioning as the food fare is more cosmopolitan.

Amazing food and amazing stuff. They treat guests that good, that you feel at home. You have to try the mussels as a starter. They are a little bit spicy but amazing in taste. Salmon as main course is also very nice. Oysters are fresh and great in taste. Espresso shot is amazing and very fresh. As a dessert we liked the churros very much. They are very crunchy and come with so very different sauces. After all it is not that mexican that we thought but we liked it very much. Great spot to look over downtown San Diego espacially in the evening. It is a little bit more expensive but definitely a place to visit.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing views over the city
The food is quite innovative. New versions of the Mexican couisine dishes. The staff is very gently and the selection of tequila and mezcal is large. Impressive a views of the city from the bay. Really worthy

Lovely setting. Food was meh. Greasy, chewy queso fundido with so many hot peppers it was overkill. Fish tacos decent. Black beans were dry.
