Claude Bosi at Bibendum London Reviews from The Last Year
Can you afford it?
Can you afford it? Dinner yesterday. I know this place quite well now. New dishes appearing includes a frog-leg based one which had all the characteristics of a great dish. I will be brief: the reason I go back is simple. It is amongst the top 5 or so best restaurants in London imho at the moment and it is consistent. Anybody who has recently checked the prices charged by some restaurants (Ikoyi?) will agree with me that one can not afford any more to get a restaurant wrong. At those new price levels, I can not take any longer the risk of a bad meal. I just can’t afford it any longer. A mistake in selecting a restaurant is just too expensive now. Here I have consistency and high quality. It is as simple as that. Of course a few things I am not a fan of: I would add a linen table cloth on the table, maybe more lights on tables in the evening, some canapes could be refined (1890 at Savoy are exceptional in this respect btw) but those are details. Special mention to the service: both sommelier and RM: young and pro and funny. Everything I want in a modern high end restaurant. A suggestion, the restaurants is particularly pleasant imho at lunch time thx to the natural that lightening the whole dining room.
Seamless service
The service was seamless and unintrusive and the food was high quality. We had a wine pairing which we enjoyed immensely. Highly recommend this.
Simply perfect
We arrived with high expectations and were not disappointed Course after course arrived each one a masterpiece and all served with incredible professionalism and with genuine cheer. We left realising we had had the best meal in London to date. The two stars are well deserved
Service at it’s worst
Terrible service and very focused on solely making money. Never answer there phone and very poor follow through - not focused on providing a quality experience.
Amazing restaurant
As soon as you energy this first floor restaurant you know you've walked into a starred Mitchlin establishment. Such attention to looking after the customer shone through. The room is just amazing and totally unique. The food was up there with the best we've ever eaten and the duck was the best. A couple of minor things to mention. Serving a course for 3 people while one was not at the table should not happen. The excuse was, 'it OK its cold and I'll return when he comes back'. The only other thing was, with so many staff, when all were waiting the stood in a line of 6-8 people just looking at everyone. A little intimidating. Would we go back, absolutely. Great experience
Everything was great, except the food
When we dine at highly rated restaurants our first priority is the food. We expect it to be delicious. The cheese gougere we were served as we sat down were indeed scrumptious. The rest of our meal, the Bibendum egg, foie gras and prawn starters , duck and venison mains and the apple dessert were not delicious. The duck in fact was poorly butchered and difficult to cut, much less chew. The apple dessert was sadly inferior to the tarte tatin we ate the previous night at a much less pretentious restaurant. Our other items were mediocre at best. Service was excellent, wine very good, the environment beautiful and comfortable. What a shame the food did not live up to that standard.
I tasted one of the best “pates-en-croute” in the world.
Lunch. Not been at Bosi for months. Superb and intelligent meal. Always concerned in my experience with many high-end restaurants about the difference between starters and main dishes with the former typically more refined than the latter. Not here. I can categorically state today that I tasted one of the best “pates-en-croute” in the world. Half joking here but taste it and please tell me I am wrong? A great scallop based dished, refined, and elegant followed. Won’t describe all the dishes but equilibrium, finesse and complexity, the overall guiding principles of a great dish in a high-end restaurant were there. Special mention to the bread. Service was excellent, sommellerie as well and at last they have appointed a very good RM. I would put more lights on tables and they are one of the few restaurants with a good music soundtrack on the background. I did not hear it as much this time. On the mises-en-bouche and aperitifs, I am not a fan of the excellent foie gras and ice cream one. It is actually very good. So can’t fault it. But not as an aperitif. The sardine one is excellent with a smokey taste that is delicious. A step- up in quality. Next time, will try the set lunch menu. Never had it before here but am curious. Been to a usually very good restaurant this week and had the set lunch menu instead of a la carte that I typically have. What a disappointment. Not surprised that lunches are not busy in many restaurants. Lunch menus served in a 1* or 2* restaurants should be of 1* or 2* quality. Lunch menu at the front door to a restaurant: if you disappoint with it, don’t be surprised of the consequences… I never had a lunch menu here before so can’t judge. But todays’ meal was almost perfection. One of my favourite restaurants in London for high end cuisine and service.
A-class!!!
Fantastic venue, food, drinks, service. Wedding anniversary made truly GREAT. Yes it is expensive but one feels GOOD there. We’ll be back and recommend indeed… :)
Very Good Meal With Family
I've not been for a while, though this time with family who'd never been, and for a late lunch on this final Friday of 2023. The restaurant is a pleasant place to be with the stained glass windows of the early deco building, and the glass fronted kitchen exposed to diners behind sliding doors. We opted for à la carte of: Cheltenham beetroot, Cauliflower mushroom and Foie gras crème caramel with Autumn truffle. Mains of: Cornish Monkfish served with Pommes soufflées, Cornish Sea Bass and Berkshire roe deer with Lobster and black pudding sauce and the Bibendum double chocolate soufflé and English Apple to finish. The meal begins with the signature Bibendum Egg, amuse bouche and bread, which are all nice, particularly the amuse bouche. My Foie gras crème caramel was delicious and the Venison lovely, though if I'm honest, the lobster was lost a little on the plate, sitting in its own bisk. The Soufflé is as magnificent as ever, but I've had the Ritz Chocolate Soufflé recently and I think that gives this one a good run for its money. Everyone else enjoyed their food very much, but my wife did say her Monkfish wasn't warm enough. Service was attentive and friendly, but even at the heady heights of two Michelin stars, you can see differences and I still rate Le Gavorche the one to beat, which Bibendum isn't quite at. Sadly, that's one London institution which is about to disappear into culinary history. I like Bibendum and I have always rated Claude Bosi's culinary skills: from Hibiscus to here. Perhaps there were a few things that let down todays experience a little, and I hate myself for saying it, the table to the side of us had a crying baby too. For our three course meal (£145 per head), English sparkling wine, glasses of wine, water and tip, we paid £842. Overall, a very good meal and a destination restaurant for all real foodies.
Another fabulous meal and exceptional customer service
Superb experience as expected, although this time the customer service deserves a very special mention. I had been there a few weeks prior. My waiter from the previous time, Lorenzo, personally welcomed me and thanked me for the review I'd written, and Pablo and Turquesa also came over to welcome us. I was treated so nicely that my friend, who hadn't been there before, jokingly asked me whether I'm royalty and had failed to mention it to him. Every single member of staff was amazing. Every single detail is looked after, which really makes you feel valued as a customer. They even make notes of the smallest of details, such as the fact that I don't enjoy cheese for dessert. Many large corporations should take a page from Claude Bosi's customer relationship management book. From a welcome drink to Lorenzo personally (and proactively!) tweaking my menu so that I could try all the new dishes that were not included in the tasting menu, I genuinely cannot think of a way these guys can better themselves next time. I'm writing this on my way to the restaurant for no doubt another fantastic meal, so I'll know soon enough whether the bar can be raised any further.
A beautiful, delicious, fun dining experience! The
A beautiful, delicious, fun dining experience! The ingredients were super fresh, and with just the right amount of decadence (e.g., foie gras, caviar, etc). The service here was also impeccable. Our menu (£185 each) was: 1) Bread 2) Foie gras ice cream - this dish was amazing. Like eating light fluffy clouds of foie 3) French onion soup 4) Bortaga caviar tart 5) Bibendum egg with cucumber compote and toasted sunflower seeds 6) Duck jelly with white onion, smoked sturgeon, and Petrossian Daurenki caviar 7) Cornish turbot à la Grenobloise 8) Brittany rabbit with Scottish langoustine, and French tarragon 9) Rabbit liver tartlet 10) Foie gras (which we ordered as extra), with crème caramel, cumin, and Macvin Japanese pear 11) Sake katsu with anise ice cream 12) 100% Chocolate soufflé cake

I can across this place while on a long walk from downtown to Chelsea/Kensington area. The hosts were gracious. Food was delicious. Building was stunning.

Ask a Question |
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue? |
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
