Thursday night dinner for two ...
My date and I enjoyed a chilly Thursday evening meal in the upper lounge area. He enjoyed a nice glass of Bourbon. I enjoyed a delicious California Chardonnay. They served fresh warm rolls with scrumptious whipped butter. We both enjoyed the Black Sea Bass special. We were both very impressed with the flavor and creativity of our dishes which were perfectly cooked. The service was good but cold. The atmosphere was upscale nautical. The fireplace was a great touch and made for a very cozy evening.

Once again, Clarke Cooke House did not disappoint. Eating delicious food in front of a fire on a cold winter night - just perfect. Bruce was our server - try to have him as a server, if you can. This is my favorite place to eat in Newport. Hands down!
Be the first to ReplyGreat restaurant and atmosphere
Restaurant busy with plenty of atmosphere. All the food was very well cooked and nice and fresh. We ate lobster and steak, both of which were lovely
Be the first to ReplyOne of my fav spots in Newport
The Clarke Cooke House is one of my favorite places in Newport and I consider myself a vacation "regular". If you time it right you can always find a space at the bar and the food and service will not disappoint. As far as I'm concerned this is the best lobster roll in Newport. The fresh tomato salad, the chowda and the gazpacho are great too and as far as cocktails are concerned you can't beat a Newport Water! The service and food have remained consistent over the many years they've been open.
Be the first to ReplyCallie was excellent and shrimp crisp
Had a very nice lunch of course clam chowder with a thinner broth but quite tasty. Kathy did not like the Brussels sprouts. Instead changed to a Caesar salad which was good. I had some shrimp and a lobster tail Callie was excellent in her service She was on top of everything
Be the first to ReplyExtremely Unprofessional Establishment
Extremely unprofessional establishment. My wife had done a lot of research on restaurants in the Newport area and made a reservation online a month before our arrival. She requested a high chair in the online reservation for our young son. We arrived early to our reservation and we were informed that they don’t have high chairs. After speaking with the manager, she stated that they have high chairs but they don’t use them for dinner. When I asked why they don’t publish this information on their website, she stated “we wouldn’t want to broadcast something that could be perceived as negative.” Cannot make this up. The Black Pearl next door is much more friendly and accommodating.
Be the first to ReplyNot good
We ordered a tuna ceviche which was definitely not a ceviche, 4 slices of tuna fish with onion on the top and a drop of smashed avocado, no leche de Tigre… didn’t even look like a ceviche. We also ordered calamari which were over toasted, dry and even a few calipers where burnt.
Be the first to ReplyNewport Food at it’s BEST!!!
Service Food and Ambience were superb! Their Strip Steak was wonderful and my wife’s Lobster Salad Roll was beyond compare! The Chocolate Moose Cake finished it off fantastically!
Be the first to ReplySome of the best service we have ever had!
I am writing this review because of the service provided by Duane B. He is probably one of the most professional servers I have ever encountered and we eat out seven nights a week. Nothing was too much trouble for him and his service was seamless. This gentleman is an asset to this restaurant and to the hospitality industry in which he has chosen to work!

I do not recommend. Bad management, bad service, mediocre food. Great Location. Very crowded inside. Angry French manager does not treat his customers nicely.

Patrick and Patrick were phenomenal! Service was excellent overall and the food was fantastic, the filet was incredible and the steak frites were great! Can’t wait to come back!
Be the first to ReplyWonderful food and service! Oddly limited Brunch men.
Came to Newport for Sunday Brunch on a cold winter day. Not too crowded, and a very nice atmosphere. Great piano player! The food we ordered was wonderful. The only strange thing was that of 11 items on the brunch menu, 9 of them featured poached eggs. I'm not a fan of poached eggs, no matter how elegantly they are prepared. .....Fortunately, the lunch menu was also available, and I was able to order a delightful salmon special.

Stopped by the candy store an Irish coffee on a cold winter day. Bartender explained to me that the place was a candy store until the 1960s. Seafood looked great but didn’t eat anything. Would go back and get a snowball in hell next time.

There isn’t a better restaurant in Newport. Three great bars, different food options, amazing waitstaff every time. The Boom Boom Room is a must while in Newport.
Be the first to ReplyGOOD chowder
Always have a great chowder when I eat there. This place is much better than the black pearl down aways where it smells like a sewer treatment facility.
Be the first to ReplyFood Overpriced, Service Underwhelming
The food was good although the entrees were a bit overpriced. However, that is not the reason for my review. Our server was not attentive to us and blatantly ignored us when it came to checking on how our meals were, if we wanted dessert or coffee refills and worst of all waiting for our check. It became readily apparent that if we had been in a larger party, we would have had very attentive service as she had plenty of time and attention to provide to all the larger parties seated around us. That is where the tips are and that apparently is what matters. We found it downright shameful and it put a major damper on what was supposed to be a special outing. There are so many other nice dining choices in Newport and we will patron them in the future. I cannot recommend this restaurant after our experience.

Cute place right on the water. Lobster salad was so fresh and delicious. Zippy dressing and farm fresh veggies. Don’t miss this one!
Be the first to ReplyGreat place for drinks and watching local wildlife
Walked over to Clark Cooke House from the Bay Club Hotel for an after dinner night cap. The place was opened until 12am and the upper bar area was the only part of the restaurant open for seating. First time in Newport so maybe this place is an institution but it is super pretentious. Maybe it’s for ultra rich people who own yachts….but the upstairs area seemed just like a nice bar in a cool bldg from the late 1700s. Admittedly, I was not dressed fancy…in travel clothes and a ball cap. The hostess said we could sit on the couches next to the fireplace which was great. The waitress brought us menus but said there was no table service and we would have to order drinks from the bar, which was fine. Then she proceeded to tell me no hats were allowed in the bar area. Even though I didn’t see a sign announcing a dress code, I kindly removed my ball cap. Steve the bartender was amazing and quite frankly the main reason I gave the place a 3 star rating. He made an amazing Manhattan and old fashion and was really friendly. As we were sitting on the couch enjoying our drinks by the fire….a mouse ran across the floor from the wall and around the bar. Now, maybe it was ratatouille taking a break from the kitchen….and luckily neither me nor my wife were particularly grossed out by the little rodent as we were just having drinks but……..if you are going to act like a pretentious restaurant where you ask people to remove their hats…..then you may want to be sure you don’t have rodents running about the place…..just sayin. 5 stars for Steve the bartender….3 stars for the little hairy rodent……1 star for the restaurant which probably averages out to a 3.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing oysters
Very historic and wonderful setting. Food was good but the oysters were fantastic. Waitress did not know anything about the various draft beers, but I would blame her lack of training, not the waitress herself.
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced and Host not friendly
My granddaughter and I planned to eat somewhere else but they were unexpectedly closed, so we popped in Clarke Cooke. I inquired about a table for two, to which the host said we can seat you but we need the table back by 7:30. I said that was fine, so we were seated. I expected something from the host like "great, we're so happy we could accommodate you" delivered with a smile. Anything to indicate we were valued paying customers. The bread is outstanding as was the jumbo shrimp cocktail. Service was prompt. IT IS LOUD. My granddaughter ordered a burger cooked medium, her burger was well done/burned edges. I ordered the chicken mushroom penne. It was mediocre. It was dry and would have been better with more sauce. I ordered key lime pie to go and it was very good but small serving for the price. I've traveled the world and eaten at a lot of good restaurants. There is definitely room for improvement here. Our bill with tip was $95 - $100, no drinks. So IMO overpriced for the mediocre quality. This is our first time to Newport, I hope there are better restaurants. I would pass on this one!
Be the first to ReplyGreat restaurant and service
Finding good food and good service in Newport is apparently difficult these days, so when we ate lunch at the Cook House we decided to go back for dinner. The food was excellent and the service was fantastic. We had lobster, chicken, and steak salads and everything was fantastic but our waitstaff really was amazing! Thank you for such a great experience.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding !

Be the first to ReplyAmazing food authentic meals
Ordered the sirloin steak with the onion chutney and sautéed vegetables. Did sushi and some salmon absolutely delicious one of the best meals I’ve had in years. By the main oysters my husband did a sampler and they were fantastic.this place does a great job in the waiters know everything about every dish.
Be the first to ReplyNothing Great.
The food here is okay. Unfortunately, when we asked the waiter about the menu, he was not at all familiar with the restaurant’s food! We started with the calamari, which was pretty tough. It’s fried with parsley and capers, which were quite good. We also had the hot Brussel Sprout salad. The brussel sprouts were mixed with cheese (Parmesan?) and then baked. It was a very heavy dish and not at all like a salad. We also split a salmon sandwich. It was fine. Nothing special. The bathroom area smelled of urine, which was pretty gross. The waiter also kept trying to remove plates and silverware before we were finished. There are better restaurants in Newport.
