Logistical Woes
Logistically itโs a complicated business. When delivering the second of back to back shows your complexity level increases. Unfortunately, City Winery failed in this exercise. Here are a few observations: 1. The staff seemed frazzled at turning the house over immediately after the first show. Patrons watched them running back and forth and constantly apologizing for the delay. Perhaps finding a better staging area for the next group coming in. I get it though. Space is limited. 2. Upon being seated, the server announced they were โhaving troublesโ and made some suggestions to order cold dishes and to order two drinks or bottles vs single. Not a bad strategy but poorly executed. The tone of the request added to the thought that they were unprepared. Perhaps a better way to say would have been โSo you donโt have to interrupt your concert experience I recommend ordering drinks by the bottle or multiplayer cocktails nowโ. This sounds more service oriented and less like the venue is ill equipped to handle the crowd. 3. Menuโs. Why even bother only placing one menu per table of four. It slows the process down when the server is ready to take orders. Placing QR codes instead menus would be more efficient and better for the environment. 4. Silverware. Again, getting an entire venue to turnover from a sold out show is a challenge. But itโs inexcusable to bring someone a salad with nothing to eat it with. This was not a single issue. Multiple patrons around me had to ask for eating utensils. 5. Mistakes happen! How you recover is what really matters. If you bring me the wrong bottle of wineโฆthe server doesnโt pore the first glass ( because itโs to hard to reach the the glass) โฆ then the replacement bottle doesnโt come until you get up from the concert to remind them. How do you really recover? At the end of the day Layla Hathaway saved the night. This venue is perfect for a performer like her. The food was very good. The venue was intimate. The staff was polite (but could use more training sand support.

Great venue for concert. Good food and great host. Don't want to tarnish the good servers but ours was the worst I ever had. Non existent for most of the night , not only to us but everyone in our area. Thanks to the other young servers that had to cover for ours.

DO NOT BOOK A SPECIAL EVENT HERE! Warning to all about the risk of counting on a reservation at this venue. We booked a party of 8 for my 40th birthday more than a month out. 36 hours before our reservation they canceled it to host a private party. Highest bidder apparently won out and we were left to scramble. It's not worth the risk if your evening is important.
Be the first to ReplyRude, insensitive, complete opposite experience to the previous City Winery NYC hospitality
Insensitive and zero customer orientation. Complete insensitivity to handicapped patrons. I have been a regular patron at the previous City Winery for multiple concerts and always had a wonderful experience - good hospitality, great ambience, helpful staff. My experience at the new venue was truly upsetting and deplorable. Sorry to say the new venue is far from this hospitality standard. Poor management, rude and insensitive staff, unwillingness to help handicapped patrons without multiple reminders. Awful customer orientation, the worst I have ever experienced at any music hosting venue in NYC. Patrons with physical disabilities should not expect much in terms of help / decency / kindness even for a basic request. Would recommend staff at the hosting and floor management to go through sensitivity and customer management training
Be the first to ReplyNice Small Venue for an Intimate Concert Experience
City Winery has a very nice concert space and I enjoyed the two shows I saw there very much. Tables are close to the stage. I was somewhat reluctant to eat at the venue with so many restaurant choices nearby, but I did eat dinner before one of the shows and it was quite good. When I am in NYC I will definitely be checking the City Winery concert schedule to plan a return visit.
Be the first to ReplyEntertaining show
We are Carol King and James Taylor fans so when a show about their story was announced we booked it. The show itself cost $22 a head and dinner and drinks to be paid on the night. The show was very enjoyable. The menu looked nice and we ordered the Caesar salad with Chicken and the char-grilled burger. The quality of the food was good but it was cold. I mentioned this to our server and he assured me he would speak to is manager. I received some compensation on the check and was happy with that. On the whole a nice venue and nice people.
Be the first to ReplyGreat show, but eat elsewhere!
We had two separate experiences. We saw Lucy and Suzzy Roche in the Loft, and the show was great! We were nervous about being in such a tight space, but almost everyone was wearing masks. Dinner, on the other hand was very mediocre. With all of the good choices in Chelsea, I would not eat here again.
Be the first to ReplyNew location on the West Side still great sound
I went to see Aimee Mann at City Winery. It was my first time at the new location on the far West Side. The space is larger with multiple levels and an outdoor dining space. It was a rainy night and getting there is less convenient than the old space. Thatโs the only reason for the less than 5 stars. Sound is wonderful, food and drink are good and not exorbitantly priced. So many awesome performers, great serviceโ great space. If only there was a closer train stop.

Wonderful lunch with wonderful views. First time at a city winery and really enjoyed it. I did a wine flight of red and my husband did a classic flight. Both were good choices. We also ordered a cheese board which was hugh and tasty, a Burrata, and a summer salad. All the food was excellent as was the service. Would absolutely return here.

Loved this place. Was meaning to go many times before and finally went. Sunset view was amazing and wine was phenomenal. Brian B., our waiter, was so nice.
Be the first to ReplyWine on the Plaza
As we strolled through Rockefeller Center Plaza, my wife and I came upon a City Winery pop up. On site were tables and chairs, outdoor heaters and igloo type structures where you could sit and be sheltered from the elements. On the day that we were there they had four wines to serve and a few small plates to accompany your wine. The pop up is a nice space to sit for awhile, have a glass of wine and people watch.
Be the first to ReplyFun Afternoon Activity
I arranged for a group wine tasting, and worked with Drew who was very helpful, responsive and accommodating throughout the entire process. The wines were great as were Drewโs descriptions, and many of our party purchased bottles to bring home. We then moved to the patio with the help of Tom, and continued with more drinks and snacks. The food was great and the view unbeatable! I would definitely recommend.
Be the first to ReplyRockefeller Wine Garden
At first I was disappointed that the round benches were removed from the Rockefeller Plaza, to make way for City Winery and some food stands. However, after venturing in an having a good IPA they were out of the Pilsner. I have gone back just about daily since the middle of June. The beer is great, the people watching is fantastic, the ability to meet new people is outstanding. However, the greatest asset is the four bartenders I have met, Steve, Andy, David snd Joey. They are friendly, polite, helpful and great ambassadors for City Winery. I will be leaving in a week, but these guys have made my visit seem like a Cheers reunion.
Be the first to ReplyStrawberry Fields Brunch is a bit!
Such a fun thing to do on a Sunday morning! Over two hours of live Beatles music performed by very talented and experienced musicians. Good acoustics. And the brunch food was good as well - we all had a fun time singing and even got up for some dancing. Fun โtouristโ thing to do when in NYC.
Be the first to ReplyMakes Ticketmaster Look Great
I tried to purchase tickets for a show at this venue the morning they went on sale. The website was overloaded, so I was sent to an online queue tool that served as a gatekeeper for allowing people into the website. I waited in that queue for over three hours, even though I was given an estimate of 35 minutes waiting.
When I finally was allowed on the site, I clicked through several different dates to find available tickets. I got through to checkout on two tickets. I logged into my City Winery account, entered all of my credit card information and my billing address in the appropriate text fields, and clicked through to complete the transaction.
The clearly broken website kept bouncing me back to the order form telling me to fill out my shipping information (which is totally unnecessary AND I believe that information is already included in my City Winery account that I had signed into). THERE WAS NO SPACE TO FILL IN SHIPPING INFORMATION!!!!! I kept trying to complete the transaction until finally, the broken website booted me back into its hour+ queue. City Winery refused to do anything to rectify this situation.
Locals who found a neighborhood spot
Spent the afternoon drinking with my friend and hanging out with Will and Carlos who made us the best drinks ALL FIVE hours we hung out at the bar. Definitely recommend this place for brunch, dinner, casual drinks, a date, or ANY social outing!!
Be the first to ReplyBeware the mulled wine
We stopped by the outdoor stand to drink a cup of mulled wine. $24 later (not including the tip) we were now in the possession of two of the worst cups of wine Iโve ever encountered. It was completely undrinkable due to the bitterness. When we asked about it the bartender agreed that it was bitter and offered us sugar packets and a plastic spoon, not a refund or a glass of something else. Great concept with the outdoor seating but due to the poor product and bad service I cannot recommended it and will not return.
Be the first to ReplyMy worst expirience in NYC, DON'T GO THERE
They have changed location, they are no more at 155 Varick St. I made a reservation and recieved the old address, when arriving to a dark close place we tried to reach them on phone to find out that there is only an answering machine.
We lost the pre-paid show and they won't make refund....careful!!!
