A truly disappointing experience
I invited 2 guests to say thank you for looking after me when I was ill. It was to be a special treat. The restaurant was their choice; I did not check the reviwes. I booked well in advance - some 2-3 weeks. The decor was encouraging, we were put in the back room but that didn't matter; the problem was the tables were very close to each other and the place too noisy to make a conversation. The food was less than mediocre, the waiters wanted to get on with serving and removed plates at random, actually to get attention from a waiter we had to rise and go and look for one. Far to much hurry to get in a second sitting. Prices were silly, including an extra charge for milk for a cup of tea. I was asked for feedback and gave it; I was offered appologies and a replacement meal. Having tried to book it twice I had no reply. The place is a gimmick, I eat out a lot, I havent had such a disappointing experience in years.
Be the first to ReplyDissapointing
Have tried several times to book and finally managed to get a table. The restaurant ambiance is nice and the service was good but that’s about it. We shared a couple of starters…calamari was cold, rubbery and small portion. We went for the carbonara for the main. This is cooked in the kitchen and served from a cheese at the table…it was cold, gloopy and stuck together. The staff were helpful to resolve things but took the shine off the experience. Food was very disappointing and an expensive lunch. A real shame. Wouldn’t go again.

Very pushy service. It started when we were asked for water and the waitress had already the water bottle in her hand opening it while asking, so I felt it was pushed on me and didnt even have the choice to ask for tap water. We ordered two carbonara and two glasses of wine, the waitress didnt ask which size so I assumed small. When the bill came I was very surprised when she said I got medium glasses (large price difference). My carbonara was more like a soup and the sauce wasnt properly cooked. You can pay the bill via QR code but be aware they charge you extra £1.30 for this „service“, I asked to pay by card. Lastly, when I asked the waitress why the service charge is 13.25% when it‘s usually 12.5%, she replied that from Jan 2024 Westminster Council increased the rates and she only gets £2 of this……. (I‘m sure we all are aware that westminster council is not telling restaurants what they want to charge for their service.) All in all will not come back and not recommend this place.
Be the first to ReplyFun place, good vibe but mediocre food
Was excited to try this popular restaurant, it’s always booked up and looks great. The atmosphere inside has a nice buzz and the decorations are awesome. However the food was all pretty mediocre on taste, we ordered 3 different starters and 3 different mains, oh and a couple of desserts too. Only the truffle pasta stood out. Can’t give any more than three stars because ultimately the food has to be the star of the show.
Be the first to Replylast minute booking made a great lunch choice
Just visited today. Tried to book online but no slots for desired time. Thought I'd try and walk in and again no slots, however, the friendly hostess suggested coming back at 3pm again to ask. As it was over 2 hours away thought Id try somewhere else but nothing too my fancy. After some drinks at the Charlotte Street hotel (pricey) I tried my luck again and was kindly given a place for 2. Our lovely server Alessia was very efficient and knowledgable. We were served quickly and the food choices we had were delicious and filling (2 starters and 2 mains) Lovely atmosphere (great playlist) and warm and friendly staff. Really enjoyed talking to Lorenzo who again was so efficient and gave us advice on the new additions to the chain-Jacuzzi and Carlotta. An afternoon well spent, I can't wait to go back and try different menu options as well as checking our Lorenzos suggestions,
Be the first to ReplyGood food, good decoration of the place. They add the tip without asking the customer.
Good food, better decoration of the place. We didn't like the detail they had of adding the tip without asking the customer. We asked that it be taken away from us, since we consider that 14% is abusive. The waiters only brought the food and drinks, the order and payment was made through the mobile application. They were not at all attentive and the service could be greatly improved. The employees are paid by the owners of the premises and not by the customers. It is worth going to this restaurant except for the detail of the tip that we do not see as fair and that is the reason why I lowered the score on TripAdvisor.

Great place that gets busy. We managed to turn up and get a table but if going again we would book ahead. Atmospheric place with an interesting menu and quality wines that are not over priced. Great service, friendly staff and not over priced for what we got.
Be the first to ReplyWatch out for big service charge, + more charges for using the app, tap water and an additional tip...
6 of us went. The food was just OK. We shared a couple of starters of Focaccia which was fine, but choice of food was very limited. I didn't fancy pizza as you always get too much and the pasta dishes didn't sound very exciting so I had the cuttlefish as a main as there was no seafood risotto, which is usually my go-to meal at Italian restaurants. I had never eaten cuttlefish before and when I ordered it our waiter warned me that it was quite chewy! But I went with it anyway and it WAS a bit chewy, but it was very nice with just potatoes and rocket. Not a lot, but fine for me. The rest of our party had pasta and pizza dishes. I reckon I got the best meal, especially when I saw the sharing platter - for 2 - of carbonara. £36 for two - and not much of it... But there you go. I had the tiramisu for dessert and that was delicious. Service was good, and I appreciated the waiter's advice on my cuttlefish, so I would have given a 'very good' grade, but when we paid, we used the QR code - to save the staff doing it I guess - so I wasn't very happy when I noticed that the TAP WATER cost a pound (that's never happened before), together with a service charge of 13.5%. But continuing to payment, we then got a 'checkout fee' for £2.69 on top - for using the App. What's THAT for? We are saving the staff doing it!. By that time we were ready to go so didn't want to start again, so accepted that, but THEN i noticed the bill had gone up ANOTHER £6 - for another tip I think... There were little boxes and the £6 one was selected! With this one. you had the option to tab to zero, so I got out of that one at least. But having to pay 13.5% + £1 for tap water + £2.69 for using a QR Code + trying to take an additional tip is a cheek as far as I am concerned. So, average for me. It was a nice place with a great atmosphere but I certainly wouldn't go again if I had my choice. I don't mind paying a wodge for average food in London, but don't like to walk out of a restaurant feeling short-changed.
Be the first to ReplyDessert. Capital of London. Secret.
This is THE place for dessert in London. They LOVE having guests just coming for dessert. It’s a huge secret. Go tiramisu
Be the first to ReplyA Sweet Haven: London's Premier Dessert Dining Experience
This is the best dessert-only restaurant I've ever visited. It's rare to find a place in London that welcomes you to enjoy just desserts. We decided to try our luck tonight and were not disappointed. The staff provided excellent service and made sure we were well taken care of. I highly recommend it to anyone with a sweet tooth.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing place to just enjoy life!!!
“4.5 circles” if that was available as I only had one “suggestion” (which may be irrelevant to some). Overall, what a gem of a place to dine, savor, laugh, live and just be. We ordered the beef carpaccio, drama pizza, Ragu pasta and the lemon cake (of course!). All items were tasty and not over or under salted (as some reviews had stated). Pasta was al dente, pizza dough fresh and all flavors juxtaposed perfectly (esp the Ragu!). Kyle (who was “just” our food runner) was the absolute best! Please, please, please allow him to flourish and be a server (or whatever he wants to be). No doubt he will bring 10000% to the establishment. Alexandra was also a delight. She went above and beyond in helping us choose our dishes. As a hospitality employer, cloning 100 of Kyle and Alexandras would make any restaurant a success. The only suggestion I have is to have a staff member available to assist with wine selections. With such a vast selection to choose from, a person is needed to answer more technical questions. I selected what I thought was an “upgraded” Valpolicella and didn’t enjoy the wine. Technically, it wasn’t corked/bad so I just consumed it. It would have been unfair to send it back. Had someone been on hand to suggest something more in my taste, perhaps the Tignanello would have won that evening. But again; minor detail in what was truly a delightful evening!!!!

Overhyped, nice venue but poor food Went there for a celebratory meal with my partner. Tables are crammed in very close together so you feel like you’re sharing a table with strangers. Service patchy and no real interaction with the waiters, yet they still expect service AND there is an extra charge to pay by app, as they don’t bring bills to tables. The decor is nice and I would let them get away with it if the food was good. But it’s not - I had a decidedly average pizza that was let down by being very soggy. Partner had a truffle pasta which was more oily than tasty. Shame as I’d wanted to try it for a while. Won’t be going back!

We went for a birthday meal and was very disappointing and underwhelming. We arrived and was seated in the middle of a row which was very cramped and couldn’t get into the seat without knocking the table next to us, we couldn’t hear eachother as the people next to us were that close. It felt as though we were a cattle, with the idea of getting as many people in and out as possible which is a shame for what’s we thought to be a quality London restaurant. The waitress then brought us over what she said was still water but tasted like gone off flat sparkling water. When we came to order they didn’t have either food or cocktail I was hoping to have so have to have something different. When the food came the portion size was so small we came out hungry, and there was such minimal sauce and meat on the plate you’re literally eating pasta in oil. We wanted to leave asap, very disappointing and a waste of money. Won’t be going back again.

The iconic glamorous italian cuisine “Big Mamma” restaurant group took the Eurotunnel from Paris and reached London first with the retro flamboyant “Gloria” in Shoreditch and then recently with “Circolo Popolare” in Fitzrovia, on the newly built Rathbone Square. Circolo Popolare is a fresh 280 seats Sicilian trattoria opulently decorated with plants dangling from the ceiling and creeping around the shrubbery-laden terrace outside. You’ll be amazed by the walls lined with 20.000+ spirits bottles and religious knick-knacks. Mind the cheeky view between the gents’ and ladies’ loos and enjoy the 50s-60s retro songs. Went there with family and did reserve about a month before. Took a bread basket (Sourdough from Bread Bread, Sardinian pane carasau, crunchy grissini; 2.5£), Prosciutto di Parma 24 mesi (24 month seasoned Parma ham; 10£), Piatto di Prodotti (Crunchy grissini with Prosciutto di Parma, mozzarella di bufala and mixed olives; 15£), Mafaldine Al Tartufo (House special fresh mafalda, black Molise truffle, indulgent truffle and mascarpone cream; 19.5£), Mammargherita di Bufala (San Marzano tomato, mozzarella di bufala, Parmigiano and fresh basil; 13.5£), The One & Tortelloni (Home-made cheesy tortelloni stuffed with a creamy stracciatella and ricotta heart, in a beautiful fresh tomato scarpariello sauce; 17.5£), Pint Lager Beer (Easy Italian style lager (4%); 6£) and a Coca Cola (200 ml; 4£).
Be the first to ReplyGood food, poor service.
Cool venue and good food. The service did not meet the expectations. Aperitif and mains were served simultaneously. The restaurant has a pay online solution with an additional fee. We had to insist to pay by card, which the waitor clearly was reluctant to allow, and she made us wait another 15 minutes before we could leave. In my opinion it is not worthy of its instagram fame, but I didn't regret going either.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing decor and great food
Came here for a pre theatre meal and the decor could not be faulted. The tables are quite close together but the busy atmosphere made this feel normal. The food was delicious and it was a good experience.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Italian food and atmosphere!
Definitely one of the best Italian restaurants in London. Not suprising that it takes two weeks reservation in advance. Stunning decor and great vibes. Great choice of Italian dishes, including good choice for vegetarians. Seems like very popular among locals, we were witneses of very happy surprising marriage prooposal:) So don't hesitate, just book a table and enjoy a lot!
Be the first to ReplyPretty to look at but a terrible personality
We were dying to come to this place, but couldn't get a reservation, so jumped at the chance the day before when one popped up. What a mistake. First, the restaurant is as pretty as it looks in the pics, but that's all they have to offer. The hostess was rude and dismissive. Our waiter was incompetent - asked him for water 4 times until we had to ask another waitress, he got our drink orders wrong, he didn't cut our pizza which the other waitress had to do when a manager saw us doing it ourselves. He never came back to ask how everything was, for another drink or a dessert order. If that wasn't bad enough, the arancini was over-fried, the endive salad was soggy and drenched in dressing, the pizza was mediocre and the signature pasta tossed inside a cheese wheel was comparable to something one might get at an olive garden. I don't understand any good reviews for this place.
Be the first to ReplyAwful service, average experience
So, for a place with an excellent reputation, this was a particularly average experience. Too busy for staff to serve the table (too busy taking photos for Instagram accounters), and whilst the food was quick, it wasn't anything to make a return desirable. When we were asked to leave (but not provided a bill) because apparently WE took too long, we were asked to pay using the app, which charged us even more! Be careful, it's reputation that drives people here - not quality.

I love this place! every time I am coming even more, food is really good, decoration is crazy beautiful but what I like the most is how nice the staff is, specially Angeles and Luiz :)

Recently visited Circolo Popolare, was initially concerned with some of the negative feedback on TripAdvisor especially around the service. I would like to state, this restaurant was perfect in every way based on my experience. Service 10/10 - attentive, polite and very friendly. Food 10/10 nothing we ordered disappointed. Ambience 10/10 very nice setting to dine in. Congrats to the management and staff for stepping up and making this a special place to eat. Like any restaurant there are a few bumps along the way but the important thing is turning this around and from what I witnessed this restaurant is listening to feedback and have turned this around.
